Fire and Rice Food Truck catered our company lunch and did an outstanding job. Given the short timeframe and large order size, they delivered everything quickly while serving great quality food. The service was fast, organized and the food was consistently great. If you're looking for a catering food truck for a small lunch window that delivers high quality and very quick service, I HIGHLY recommend Fire and Rice. Their Hawaiian Asian fusion menu is unique and stands out compared to other Asian or poke trucks I've tried. The garlic shoyu chicken and tuna poke were my personal favorites. I tried some of my coworkers garlic shrimp & Miso tofu too...surprisingly pretty GOOD! With inflation being what it is, their food is absolutely worth the price, and they were also flexible and willing to work within our reasonable budget. I can't recommend them enough. For catering inquiries, It was a little difficult getting them on the phone so we played phone tag a lot. Final Thoughts: 4.33/5 They were our caterer for a work party. This is a food truck and they seem to have everything ready to be served to us. Asian fusion foods are typically my go-to choice and so I was very excited that they were providing us food today. Food: Garlic Fried Chicken Bowl: 4.3/5 The sauce on this is divine with the chicken. It's like an unagi sauce with garlic in it. It has some saltiness, sweetness, and that umami flavor. Garlic taste and scent is present, but not too overpowering, which I really enjoyed. That flavor is great, but some places really overdo it for me. Just a personal preference though. For the chicken itself, it's very tender and juicy on the inside and still has some of that nice crunch on the outside. Perhaps this is because the cut of meat is the chicken thigh. It's not super crispy because I don't believe this is being fried to order for us. Seems to be food held in a warmer until its ordered. Kimchi was the side that they had provided with this dish and I am here for that. Some people aren't the biggest fan of this and I saw that from the looks my coworkers gave it. Personally, very much enjoyed it though. That sourness and spice from the kimchi just balances out this bowl really well. The veggies are nice and crispy. Gives it that freshness. Also, very slight detail and addition, but I always enjoy the sesame seeds and furikake sprinkle as a garnish. There's a nice nuttiness to it that they provide as a simple garnish. Spicy Tuna Poké: 4.0/5 This item was alright. The flavor was also really good, but I did get tired of eating just one type of poke protein. Typically when I go to get poke, it's 2 to 3 scoops of different proteins with various sauces to change up the flavor. I did get tired of this one after a few bites. The flavor of this item was very good though. There's a nice kick from it and the flavor tastes like a mix of kewpie mayo, soy sauce, sriracha, and sugar. Very simple, but you can't go wrong with those flavors. For the side, they added seaweed salad. Again, not your average side dish. Personally, I enjoyed it, but it might not be a common or familiar side dish for other individuals. It has a nice sweetness and nuttiness to it. For texture, there's a nice bite to it, which is ncie since the tuna is very soft and doesn't contribute much to the texture component. Menu: Small Their menu seems quite limited, but again, that is normal for a food truck, I believe. The items they provide do it just fine for me. I appreciate that they also have an option for the vegetarians. The menu we were provided was limited to 4 items, which is fine since the scale of this party wasn't anything too wild and we were able to satisfy everyone with what they provided. --------- Quality: Alright The quality of the food seems OK. It came out within a few minutes for us and I don't think it takes just a few minutes to fry that piece of chicken. I could be wrong though, so no one quote me on that. Just an observation. Not the highest expectations because their limited to the space and area in general. The product they provide is very good though. Overall, for something that has raw seafood in it, it seemed quite fresh and tasty. The items aren't made to order either and it's more assemble and serve to order, but again, they seem to be making it work with the product that they are selling. Price: Estimated Because this was a catering event, I am actually unaware of how much my administrator paid for the food. What I know is that she paid for a certain amount of bowls. From the looks of this item though, I want to estimate the price of each bowl being around $16 to $20 depending on the food item provided. Seems quite average for a bowl of food these days. Service: Quick and fast Because most of the food is already prepared and ready, the interaction with them itself is very limited. They took our order and provided us with the food. Nothing too significant to note and that is to be expected with the food truck. They were very sweet though and explained the menu items to be when I had a question. Ambiance: Simple and cute food truck The design on their food truck is so cute. The riceball is my favorite because it has this very cute face and just looks darling to me. The outside has a simple design with the name and logo on top and then perhaps some of the food items they provide written on the bottom section of the truck. Doesn't seem like anything too fancy, but simplicity is best for me. Location/Parking: Wherever they travel and navigate to Because they're a food truck, they can drive to you, which is really convenient. On Yelp, it states that their located on 36 Commercial Street in downtown, which might be where their truck is serving most of the time. Again, it is a food truck though, so they have the ability to drive to you and travel around to their customers, which is quite convenient is reaching a broader group of people. read more

Honestly didn't know what to expect pulling up to a food truck but wow. The garlic fried chicken is incredible -- crispy, saucy, that kimchi slaw on top just works. Got the kalua pig too and it was so tender. Everything comes with rice and it all just hits. But what really got me was the people running this thing. TLDR: REALLY Awesome Musubi! Great Tuna Bombs too! Came to Morgan Hill for their first annual Open Streets!, the second week of May. Actually came to support my sis who had a booth there. It was around lunch time, but we had a big brunch already, so we wanted something light. So we ordered 2 Musubis for $9 ($1 off) and the Tuna Bomb, because my wife thought it sounded interesting. First, the Tuna bomb... it's Tuna poke with some rice, inside the shell of that Japanese Tofu. Kinda like a taco. Got some drizzle on top as well. It was a bit messy to eat with our hands, but it was Da BOMB as the kids used to say... Ahem. yeah we enjoyed that a lot. The fish was fresh, and it had a very bright refreshing taste. Kinda perfect for such a hot day. Now the Musubi. I've had many a musubi in Hawaii. This rivals all the best ones. The spam was seared so well. A bit stiff outside, which is the way I like it. And the sauce on the rice, puts it over the edge. It DEFINITELY beats out the ones from L&L, THAT'S for sho! The guy was really patient with us, very friendly. They provided four options for the event (garlic fried chicken, spicy tuna poke, garlic shrimp poke, miso tofu poke). I got to try the garlic fried chicken and the spicy tuna poke bowls--wow. I tried this food truck the other day and was so excited because I love Asian cuisine. The lady who helped me was very nice and helpful. I waited about 10 minutes for my meal and ordered the K-pop garlic chicken with lava sauce on the side. The K-Pop chicken was fried chicken in sauce over white rice with green onions. Fire and Rice is my jam!! I'm always on the hunt for a good food truck and especially one that does Hawaiian. I feel like Hawaiian Food trucks are so hard to come by in the Bay Area. I came across this food truck via Yelp and what really caught my eye was their unique take on musubis and the garlic fried chicken. They offer a nice variety of items such as deconstructed musubis, poke tots, kalua tots, K-pop chicken, rice bowls, poke bowls and a few sides. I love that they offer so much and it's different than your average Hawaiian food spot, they put a twist on everything and I love it. My absolute favorite dish here is the Garlic Fried Chicken Bowl, it so decadent and amazing. It's a crispy fried chicken thigh dipped in their shoyu sauce and served over steamed rice and a side of kimchi slaw. The garlic fried chicken is very garlicky and I love it. The chicken thigh is very thick and meaty, always cooked to perfection and moist. I love to dip it in their house side which tastes like a spicy aioli. This truck is quite hard to come by as they are only out a couple of days during the week (unless the have private events) in either SJ, Mountain View or Morgan Hill as well as the weekends. So I'm a little bit confused why there are pictures of onigiri all over this truck when they don't even sell it. It was a bit misleading. But nevertheless, the food was still very good. I ordered the Kahlua pig tots and they were so tasty and delicious and plentiful. I could only eat half, so I saved the rest for another day. Pop them in the air fryer and a crisp back up. Finally made it a point to catch them this past Saturday! They park on Depot street between Main and 1st Streets, parked in front of the Bike Therapy shop. There's tables setup between Bike Therapy and the Running Shop & Hops (beer place). You can grab a cold beer and enjoy with your poke! We loved all the items we got! I found out about this food truck through Moveable Feast and I absolutely love Hawaiian food especially musubis. They were in the South Bay one weekend so I knew I just had to make it for a meal. I went crazy and bought both lunch and dinner: -Deep fried spam musubi (it was ok) -Poke tots (delicious) -Garlic fried chicken bowl (a hit) I was not too sure what I was expecting from the deep fried spam musubi. I mean usually anything fried is delicious right? This was just ok. Only the nori had a thin deep fried layer and there was not too much flavor. Maybe I thought the spam was going to be fried or something. Least I tried it and will most likely not be getting it again. The star item on their menu is definitely the garlic fried chicken bowl. The chicken was crispy and moist with just enough flavor. Pair that with some pickled slaw and rice...perfection. The poke tots were different but delicious as well. You need to be patient and work through it to find the right ratio of topping to the tots. I was left with more tots on the bottom and ended up not finishing it although I probably could have used one of the sauce condiments I had at home. It felt like eating mush, except for the few outer tots that didn't have topping on it. The pork was tender, but overall, this lacked flavor and I would not recommend it. This food truck stopped by my apartment complex during quarantine. I looked it up on Yelp before they were scheduled to come, and it seems to have a reputation of being this elusive but worth-the-chase truck! So I had to give it a try while it was right outside my door. I ordered probably the most popular item, the garlic fried chicken musubi. Overall, it was pretty good. The chicken was amazingly fried to perfection. The crisp was perfect and the sweet sauce that coated it paired perfectly. I was a bit underwhelmed by the seaweed and rice wrap though. The rice was kinda cold, and I'm used to having my musubis fresh and warm. That, along with the $8 price point, is why I ended up giving 3 stars. The deconstructed musubi idea is cool and unique. Ordering was easy and I couldn't wait to try my food the next day. I ordered the kalua pig tots, garlic fried chicken bowl and a side of mac salad. The next day, I ended up ordering their St. Patty's day special- corned beef hash- as well. I requested the additional house sauces be added on the side. On the day of, I came about 10 mins early to pick up my order and found out they ran out of propane so the girl apologized & asked me to come back in 30 mins. This was a pretty big inconvenience because I was trying to leave and come back within my baby's nap window, lol. I did a quick grocery run and came back with my order waiting for me. The girl remembered me and threw in an extra side of mac salad which was a nice gesture! I came home and took a quick photo of the spread before diving in with my husband. We both agreed the kalua pig tots was the best, followed by the garlic fried chicken bowl. The corned beef hash was unfortunately really disappointing, the meat was chewy/fatty so I wasn't able to enjoy it much. The food had also gone cold but the chicken remained fairly crispy! They were at the Taylor Night Food truck event, and I decided to try them because I like spam musubi. They had their version of it like an open face sandwich. What held the mouth together was a long toothpick. Egg & spam musubi was what it was. I didn't eat it right away as I was trying their poke & tots. It was sweet and spicy. I couldn't finish it by myself. It can feed a group of four this splendid appetizer. The tots were the base and the poke with onions and sauce were drizzled on top. Two hours later I ate the musubi and it's the best I had so far. Their sauce was sweet and thick but spread thin so it wasn't too much to take down. Found them at the night market at Backesto Park in San Jose and got to to try their poke tots and the garlic fried chicken musubi. Both were delicious dishes! The poke tots is definitely a dish worth sharing and it came with shrimp and tuna over the tater tots. The sauce was pretty spicy so keep that in mind. The garlic fried chicken musubi were the best - the chicken was crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside, and it was paired with some slaw and an even layer of rice inside the seaweed. Hands down the best musubi I've ever had! Food comes out pretty quick but you can take they make it per order and it isn't pre-prepared. Prices are pretty reasonable and the other items on the menu all sound good too! You'll have to follow them on IG to figure out how to catch this food truck, but worth a visit! read more

I never would've found out about this place if it weren't for my friend. He said it was going to be near our work, so we should check out the food. After looking at the pics online, I was sold! This is basically Hawaiian/asian fusion food. I wanted to try everything, but decided on the kalua pork tots & deep fried spam musubi. Omg, it was bomb. Highly recommend that you check it out. I came across Fire and Rice on Instagram and very glad I did! This is Hawaiin food x10. They've definitely taken it up a notch with all the flavors and color each item has. Since they're a food truck, they're open depending on where they are in the Bay! I'm glad I caught them on a Saturday afternoon in Downtown SJ. I ordered the garlic fried chicken musubi, (small) kalua pork tots, and (small) poke tots for myself and my parents. Their portions are pretty big and I can say I ate with my eyes hahah If it were my bf and I eating, we would've just ordered one musubi and a small kalua pork tots! My favorite out of what I ordered was the garlic fried chicken musubi and a close second is the kalua pork tots. The musubi is a hearty size for a musubi and I love the texture of the breading and the way it's fried. It's paired with fresh cabbage slaw which helps balance the protein. As for the Kalua tots, you HAVE to order it with their house sauce/spicy mayo! The sauces give it more flavor but it's just so good. These tots were paired with fresh 'salsa' or pico de gallo on top and *chefs kiss*. I'll come back and try their deep-fried spam musubis!! read more

Very friendly service ! Ordered the deep fried musubi and it was okay. For me I think I prefer them just regular and not fried but glad I got to try the fried ones that I always see people! If you liked fried then these are for you, but if not just stick with the regular musubi. Also got to try out their macaroni salad which I believe has tuna in it but it was delicious! They also have a variety of Hawaiian sun drinks which are always good. They also have other things to try out which I plan to do when I come across them again! read more
