This was not my best sushi experience, but it wasn't my worst. It was close to my hotel, and I was grateful not to have to walk far. The waitstaff was friendly, and the place was pretty clean. I enjoyed that they were very relaxed as they took my order. Making sure I was taken care of, but not ignoring me either. I was distracted and they read that well. I ordered some pan fried gyoza that didn't feel overly pan fried, more like deep fried. Still tasty, but not what I was hoping for. The price was right. The sushi was affordable as well at under $5 for the rolls I ordered. The ingredients were clean, but a little too much cream cheese is some. The Avacado rolls nailed it the others I ate were passable. I was kinda "ugh" when it came to the wasabi. It was the powder form, and it seemed like mine had been mixed a while ago. The pickled ginger was too thick and wadded up on the plate. It was still good and I wont order breakfast Ihe morning, I was stuffed. I do suggest the tempura ice cream, chocolate. The gentleman that took our order was pretty rude throughout our miserable time there and as we were leaving a fellow employee (possibly his wife) was screaming at him outside by where we were parked. That may have influenced his crappy attitude but... The service was terrible, the rolls that we ordered were bland. The tuna and shrimp were fine but it doesn't take a chef to slice raw fish or put a shrimp on top of sticky rice. If I could rate it with no star I would. Pretty much your average strip mall sushi. Everything was tasty. They have a sushi lunch with a set number of pieces, but no multi roll sushi lunch. Sushi does not come with soup or salad. If you have been to this type sushi restaurant before, you should find exactly what you expect. read more

Food here in Jacksonville is tricky, but this place is great! Since moving here we have found the food options to be either expensive, underwhelming, or a chain. Yashi Sushi has the best tasting sushi in the area (trust me, we've tried them all)! The freshwater eel roll is a MUST. I also like their ginger salad. The staff is very friendly and we frequent enough that they recognize us when we walk through the door. The hibachi meals are good, too. So I've been here for dinner and lunch. Each time my service has been quick and courteous. It's your typical sushi place with a lady variety of sushi rolls. The service was horrible. There was only one other party in for lunch. We had to waive our hand to order more food and had to find someone in the back to get our bill. We waited ten minutes for it. Sometimes the Southside area can feel like a wasteland of chains, burgers, and other varieties of fattening friedness, but Yashi Sushi is a light and fresh alternative if you happen to be in the neighborhood. I met my bestie here for lunch today, and we scooped a table on the patio to enjoy the warm, December weather. (Only in Florida can you say that statement with confidence!) I started with a ginger salad, and it came out in seconds. It did the trick, but nothing to write home about. Good, fresh dressing though. For my roll I went with the Orleans, a cucumber-wrapped creation with tuna, salmon, white fish, crabmeat, radish, and avocado. Whoa! You can see why I ordered this one. My pal did the Pockey Roll with salmon, tuna, spicy mayo, cucumbers, avocado, jalapeno, and spicy tuna all topped with scallions and fish eggs. As you can tell, Yashi has some unique rolls to try, and I was glad to do something new. After ten minutes of catching up, the rolls came out looking delish! I was in a bit of a rush due to the holiday madness... I mean, errr, Christmas cheer, so I dug in immediately. Wow, my roll was SO fresh! I'm ashamed to admit I have never had a cucumber-wrapped roll, but I will definitely be ordering more of them in the future. Imagine fresh, juicy seafood wrapped up in a fresh, juicy shell.. yum! Freshness explosion. I loved mine and scarfed it down in about two minutes. I will say that, despite being packed with seafood, the Orleans was not very filling. If you're looking for something to hold you over, I'd suggest ordering two rolls. My friend loved her roll as well. Overall, flavors were great, service was quick and very kind, and the meal was just a pleasure. Unfortunately, we had a really negative experience at Yashi. My husband and I are doing the Whole30 which means you can't have any grains for 30 days. We are huge sushi fans so wanted to satisfy the craving and decided we would get rolls, just with no rice. We explained our situation to the staff and told them we couldn't have any rice and they said it wouldn't be a problem. Well, we get home and are almost done with our meal when we realize there is rice in the rolls. They used it as a "glue" to seal the seaweed to itself in the roll. I called and explained what happened and was treated very rudely, given no apology and told that I should have specified that there couldn't be a single grain of rice. So I took a picture and went back in the next day and was treated even worse. Their customer service was distasteful. We won't be returning. Be careful if you have food allergies!! read more

Of the four or five times I've visited I don't hurry back. I enjoy Wasabi at the Town Center for creative rolls that are bigger and more flavorful. I like Crazy Sushi (amazing volcano roll - spicy cream cheesy scallop salad on top) as well, and Fuji Sushi off Roosevelt and San Juan is a hidden stripmall gem. Yashi is modern and clean (no hokey decorations) and the service is quick and attentive at lunch. Thumbs up always. The salad with ginger dressing is fairly uneventful: iceberg lettuce with ginger dressing. No carrot shreds, tomato slice, etc. like other places. The miso soup was good. I've had sushi rolls and a sushi lunch which was a good value - six pieces of sashimi (two salmon, two tuna and one whitefish) and two rolls of sushi (6 pieces each): California roll and spicy tuna. Traveling last week meant I had to use yelp as it was intended to find somewhere to grab dinner. This place was within walking distance to the hotel and so that was the deciding factor really. The sushi was fine but not the freshest I've ever had. I was recommended the Monster Roll and kinda wish I wasn't. It was packed full of mayo and seriously a bit too much to take. When I was staying at the Aloft across the street, it seemed logical to go to the restaurant within walking distance. What a lucky find! This place was inexpensive, and quick. I called to order, and they said the standard "Fifteen minutes", and I walked over after 10, thinking that I would have to wait, but lo and behold, all my food was ready. This is the best place in town to get a Hibachi lunch that is not ridiculous portions. You get just the right amount of veggies, rice, noodles, and the meat of your choice for $10! This also includes soup and salad. My favorite is the steak and shrimp, and the steak is right up there with top steakhouses.
