Intimate and traditional local neighborhood sushi spot. We decided last minute to walk over to Yashima, and I was pleasantly surprised as the entire staff was Japanese. It wasn't very busy so we were able to sit down, order, and receive our food all in a timely timeframe. The servers were both very nice and accomodating. The taste of the bento box salon and chicken were perfection -- cooked well and nothing was too salty.

Came here for lunch with my daughter and will not be returning. The lady who works there is super rude! The restraunt was not busy at all on a Friday afternoon at 1:15pm. She took our order and began brining out our food. I had to remind her to bring our drinks as we had our food but no drinks. Then in the middle of eating she brings the check out. I didn't ask for it nor was I no where near close to being finish it's as if she was rushing us out because they close at 2. Only checked in on us once to see how we were doing. It really ticks me off how people who have a business have no manners. Also my bill was $55 and I left a $0 tip what do you want a tip for? For being an asshole. & after the fact I paid my bill she still didn't say thank you. Also it was 106 and it was hot in there only a fan circulating so if you want to have lunch or dinner here prepare to roast!!

This is a cute little hole in the wall for some traditional and classic Japanese sushi. It contains a small sushi bar area with few tables filled with wooden decor. We opted for a chirashi gold and a mix of various different nigiri sushi. The fish was really fresh but I prefer my rice less mushy and with a tad more vinegar. The staff was really nice even though they were under staff and asked us how everything was constantly. Parking in the front and rear.

I've been coming to Yashima since I was a little kid and it truly is a small hidden gem in Covina. I've always wanted to gatekeep this spot, but it truly is a spot that deserves recognition! The owner Sachiko is the sweetest lady ever and it hurts my heart that she is retiring and ownership is changing. But she has been here for about 40 years, so she deserves the retirement. The sushi and food is always such great quality and everything is truly super fresh. I love how they also offer plate combinations on their menu if you want to try a little bit of everything. I will say the place isn't your upscale sushi restaurant, but it hits the spot when it comes to the food. Don't expect anything fancy. It truly is known for the food quality sushi and community vibes. Gonna miss Sachiko!!!

After some 49 years running her own Sushi Restaurant- Sachiko is finally retiring. We will miss her and new ownership will take over . We've known her for more than 28 yrs and hubby from the time they opened up. One the BEST , fresh & Japanese owned sushi restaurant in the area. I highly recommend to you YASHIMA - check it out here in Covina on Rowland St. if you're in the area. Sushi Chef Hideo will be there to serve you the best of the best !

    Chirashi bowl soooo good!

We've been coming here for years, and it never disappoints. If you're in the area and looking for authentic, consistently great sushi, this is the spot. The fish is always fresh, the food is delicious, and the service is fast and attentive. A true hidden gem in Covina!

    Must order "garlicky edamame"

We happened to be in Covina area and decided to try Yoshima.. Wow, I had such a wonderful experience at this charming little spot! The food was definitely the highlight -- every dish was packed with flavor and made with obvious care. The garlic edamame was incredibly tasty, perfectly seasoned and impossible to stop snacking on. The chicken yakitori was another standout: juicy, tender, very well marinated and grilled just right. I also loved the cucumber salad, which was light, refreshing, and the perfect balance to the yakitori. The atmosphere added so much to the meal. The décor is adorably authentic, giving off the cozy feel of a true Japanese mom-and-pop restaurant. It's warm, inviting, and full of character. And the service was very warm and very quick. If you are in the area, you definitely want to try Yoshima!! Its such a delightful place with delicious food and a genuine vibe -- definitely worth a visit and revisit again.

This place was recommended to us by a customer at a different sushi place. He said this is the best sushi place by far and we decided to drive almost an hour to try it out. The interior was very simple and basic, sushi and rolls were super plain and nothing fancy. Would I ever go back? No Service was ok, not the best

I've been coming here for over 15 years and haven't lived in the area for awhile. So, I don't visit as much as I use too. Lemme tell you, the menus the same, the food is fresh, consistent and delicious. Always, excellent service and the bartender Hideo has been here since the beginning. He is a master at his craft. Small hole in the wall. For groups maybe 4 max. It's a nice place, but small. Nothing fancy about it. As I come here for the awesome service amd excellent sushi along w/ a bottle of Asahi and some Saki. I highly recommend and take care of the staff thanks!

If you're not a regular here be prepared to wait and be overlooked. My daughter and I ordered 3 rolls to share and the garlic edamame as an appetizer. We waited about 25 minutes for the first roll to come out followed by the edamame. Please note it was only us 2 plus another couple. About 45 minutes into our dinner we're still waiting for the other rolls and then the crowd starts rolling in. We were forgotten about and it wasn't until 1hr in that I finally had to get up to ask for more water and to order a hand roll to go.

The uni is amazing!!! Worth the market place price. We came as a party of 4, and arrived at a very unassuming quiet strip mall. We were a bit concerned when we parked in the back. (Lots of parking andn street parking by the way). When we walked in, it seemed pleasant and the place was popping. We got a very small menu, but our eyes were bigger than our stomach and we ordered way more than we could finish. Chirashi bowl was delicious, the nigiri was soft, the cut rolls were not rolled too tight, but flavor was there. I wish the rolls were packed a little more tightly because some of the innards fell apart after picking it up and dipping it. The tempura was nicely fried. The combo I got was teriyaki chicken along with a dynamite scallop. I would prob pass on the scallop, as it was mostly zucchinis and onions. It came with salad, soup and Mac salad. Overall I would definitely come back to get the nigiri options and cut rolls.

My 20+ year love affair with Yashima continues! Every time I fly home to see family, we come here. We get the same things and it's always as good and fresh as the last time, if not better somehow. They always remember us, even where I went to college and where I'm living now even though I sometimes go years without seeing them. Just a truly special place and one I look forward to visiting whenever a SoCal trip is in my future. The sushi quality can not be beat.

They give you a lot of different salsas to choose from, which is nice, but the flavor should already be in the food--not something you have to create yourself with salsa. The marlin tostada tasted more like tinga than marlin. The mixta was watery and didn't have any noticeable lime or freshness to it. Overall, the seafood just didn't have the flavor I was expecting. Service: Service was extremely slow. It took forever for someone to come over and take our food order, and then we waited even longer for the food to actually arrive. Ambience: The atmosphere also felt off. The music was mostly pop and rock, which didn't really match the banda/norteño atmosphere you'd expect from a place like this. When you walk in, it also feels like everyone turns around and stares at you, which made it a little uncomfortable. The biggest issue was that in the middle of our meal, we were asked to move tables because a larger family was coming in. That was really inappropriate. Once customers are seated and already eating, they shouldn't be inconvenienced to accommodate another party. Between the bland food, slow service, uncomfortable atmosphere, and being moved during our meal, the overall experience just wasn't good. Unfortunately, I wouldn't come back based on this visit.

Cajun Grilled Shrimp (Taco) $4.25 Taco A La Carte I agree with others, as the food was a bit of a mixed bag. The Fish & Chips was a very popular dish where many tables had ordered at least one of them, but we found the batter to be a bit too thick and greasy. I tend to prefer my oily food not to be overly brown. However, the fish on the inside was perfect though, fresh and flaky! I loved the kaleslaw and might just order a side of that the next time I am here for to-go! The Branzino with Chili Sauce was not what I expected. I had expected spiciness, but it was a bit more on the sweet spicy side for me. There was either no A/C or it was not strong enough but they had a huge industrial fan on while we enjoyed our lunch. Service was very attentive and provided good customer service. The parking lot was a bit packed for a Friday afternoon, but we were both able to find parking near the restaurant. Overall, I would return but not when the 90+ degree weather since it could be really stuffy in there, and one does leave smelling like grease.
