We visit the coast every 3 weeks. For the past month & 1/2 they have been on vacation so we were disappointed not to try their food. We finally made it yesterday, we had the regular Yatai sashimi + scallop roll + the super spider roll. Everything was absolutely delicious .. To go only. When they run out of fresh fish they will shut down. We told the young lady that we would be back on Sunday for lunch since they are only open for 3 hours, she said we will not be open as it is my mother's birthday. It's also only takeout at this time meaning you better anticipate about a 60 minute wait after you place your order. You can call but sometimes you won't get through with others bombarding the place. Part of the experience is seeing the unique way in which each sushi chef creates their rolls and I imagine this place would ace that! But, I get it. They can keep the prices reasonable and serve way more people through the window as the inside is super small. We love Yatai Sushi! Every year when we come into town we get our dinner here. We take our food back to our hotel room with an ocean view to have our dinner. This year we had the Rainbow Roll & Shrimp Tempura Roll. Food was excellent as usual. They stopped making the Salmon Poke Bowl so we got two sushi rolls instead. We stopped by on a Sunday they were only open from 12-3. So we got there a little after 12 and they already had phone call orders going on, so we had a 30 minute wait. Which we didn't mind since the sushi was so amazing. We got the Oregon Coast Roll with Crab salad, avocado & cucumber. Fresh salmon on top with goma sauce. We also got the Lion King Roll with Spicy crab & tempura shrimp. Salmon katsu on top with spicy mayo, wasabi mayo, katsu sauce. The last roll was the Kona Roll with Crab salad, spicy tuna, macadamia nuts with pepper tuna, mango sauce & unagi sauce. We also got some miso soup and inari's for my daughters. We went today and had two rolls as well as the 10 piece sashimi, absolutely fantastic! So fresh and tasty. Inflation is real, the 10 piece sashimi is $35 now. We had the rainbow roll, as well as a very spicy one that I can't remember the name of, it made my nose run. The wasabi was different than your typical sushi place, fresh and fragrant, not searingly hot. Additionally, the grated ginger was not soggy and had a crunchy texture, it was so good. They tell me when to pick it up. I come back at that time and get it. Just wonderful every time. (Wasabi is good and strong.) OK, this place is great! Husband and I were in Lincoln City escaping the heat back in Portland. It was a last-minute decision, so we were lucky to find a hotel, much less a good restaurant. Most restaurants in the area, we quickly learned, are geared towards families, fast food and fried seafood. So, the second night of our stay, we decided we would just order some sushi and stay in. I had read about Yatai and had seen the positive reviews. (Note that at the time of our visit at the end of July, Yatai still was not open for inside dining, only carry out.) We called Yatai around 4:30 to place an order (we had a mini-fridge in the room to keep it cold for later). As it turns out, it was a good thing we ordered so early because there was a sign at the entrance stating that they only order a certain amount of base ingredients, and when they run out, they close. We ordered the 10-piece sashimi, the 101 Roll and the Poseidon Roll. Everything was prepared to order and very fresh. Better than most sushi I get back in Portland. (Note that the assorted sashimi listed on their menu as 12 pcs for $20 is now 10 pcs for $30!) Overall, it was a good experience and the sushi was above average. Realistically, I would have given Yatai 3.5 stars, but since that's not an option on Yelp, I thought it was warranted to round up to 4 stars. read more

OK this restaurant is hands down one of the most top notch Japanese restaurants I've been to I loved it!!!! Having lived in big cities all my life I really do know how Japanese food should taste and how fresh it should be. This restaurant is stellar for this community where you can barely find a good salad or a decent diner with fresh food. Its almost unbelievable that's such a rare jewel like Yatai is here. When I walked inside I was so impressed by the immaculate surrounding and the beautiful handmade wood tables and chairs that complemented the soft green pastel environmentally friendly space. I actually liked all the rules that were hand written around the room on brown parchment paper on the wall just reminding people to have civility. Sometimes people forget in a tourist town and need a reminder there's very little civility. I decided to go for it and order the sashimi plate with raw fish and I know people probably think I was taking my life in my hands in a place like Lincoln city but I was pleasantly surprised and delighted and I have decided to make this a weekly ritual and come back every couple weeks or at least a couple times a month because this place is just worth it!!! After leaving I was so happy and feeling joyful having eaten healthy fresh food that I haven't been able to find around here for a long time although I am now finding some of the local gems and I'll be writing about those shortly! I have enclosed photos to describe the freshness. Definitely make your way to Yatai you will be delighted you did!!! It's quite interesting because they serve the sushi on the paper tray, and it's loaded with shredded cabbage & splashed with some mayo sauce on top. I ordered the super spider roll and I like it. It tasted fresh and the soft shell crab was hot and crunchy, yum! The roll was too big to be eaten in one bite, and its bottom stuck to the paper so it fell apart.
