10/31/21 I believe I am Yats's #1 fan. As an avid fan, I visit every Sunday to make sure I satisfy my weekly hankering for Yats. The Drunken Chicken is the gateway for anyone who wishes to visit the Yats for the first time. But for seasoned veterans, such as myself, you have to order the Chili Cheese Étouffée with Crawfish (much as I did tonight). It's full of great Louisiana flavors, brightened by rosemary and thyme. The curry-like consistency over the bed of rice paired with the signature buttered bread is Heaven on earth. Adding the New Orleans inspired flavors, the decorations and music add to the restaurant's atmosphere and appeal of Yats. Displaying a fun and casual environment is essential for a great dining experience, and Yats nail it on the head. I highly recommend Yats for locals and tourists alike. A Sunday favorite! Before Covid it was a routine to go here every Sunday after mass and enjoy a nice lunch together. Unfortunately due to restrictions and safety, we haven't been going as often. I will say however, that we have ordered through the phone and done quick pick up several times for an evening meal. Some of the options go much quicker than others, so if you find a favorite, you may want to call in advance to ensure that they have what you want, otherwise feel free to open your pallet to many new options. My husband is from Colombia and loves the red beans and rice, he says it reminds him of home and he has never branched out to try anything other than this. I am the other hand enjoy pretty much all of the plates, my favorite being the maque choux. There are several vegan options as well as option to have no chicken in the maque choux. I have been a fan of Yats since they opened in Greenwood. They had a manager named James. The food was good, the employees were friendly and happy. James left, the food was still good but employees were not the same. These days the employees don't seem to care, and the food is not good anymore. I always loved the chili cheese but it is so gummy now and the crawfish are like chewing rubber. Avoid Greenwood Yats. I won't be going back soon. read more

Yat's is a unique Cajun style cuisine restaurant. The food is full of unique flavors and spices. My favorite is the chili cheese etouffee with crawfish, but the drunken chicken is also fantastic. The menu option is somewhat limited and consists of rice as a base with some form of meat and spices, usually in thick stew, on top. Also included is a side bread with garlic butter on top. The best part of the meal is dipping the bread into the etouffee. Overall the food is very flavorful but given the limited menu it may not be for everyone. The restaurant itself is as unique as its food. It is full of a random assortment New Orleans inspired decorations. There is something new you find to look at every time eating here that makes it so unique. Inside they have music soft music playing as well. Sitting is not a problem and they several tables and chairs as well as very comfortable booths. They also have outdoor seating as well, although it can get a little loud because it right next to the street. The service at Yat's is exceptional. You order at the counter, and everyone is very friendly and polite. The food comes out very quickly and always very warm. The workers also do a very good job of cleaning the restaurant throughout the day. Overall, Yat's is a delicious very unique Cajun-styled restaurant. Yats! is without peer in Indianapolis. When I have friends visit from other cities, and even from other countries, Yats is the one assured winner of Indianapolis culture that always impresses. And this location continues to run during quarantine. I've had the luxury to order take out from them during these strange times. This is one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in the need of a delicious lunch or dinner. Yats is one of the best places you can get a unique dinning experience with great customer service and delicious food. Going to Butler the last 3 years has allowed me to explore the area and try all the restaurants surrounding the University and Yats us up there with one of my favorites. Cajun food is so difficult to get right and this place really does it proud. Please get the half & half with drunken chicken and the crawfish! It is a fantastic and affordable meal for just 10 dollars. The people that work at Yats are very kind and generous and always have a smile on their face. They make sure to create an enjoyable atmosphere with interesting vibes all around. They have a unique style that gives off a small hole in the wall place which I love. I was surprised that I had never been to this Yats location. The parking nearby can be a little tough to find but we came here lunch on a weekday so we ended up parking at the grocery store across the street. I ordered the crawfish etoufee which is always a nice meal. The bread included is heavenly! The staff were nice and the food was fast and tasty. The location had plenty of seating and the decorations were cool. They also have outdoor seating. They only have one restroom but it was clean. Every time I come to Indy, I try to eat at Yats. It is so good and authentic. I got the Crawfish Etoufee and the Maque Choux with chicken. It was very flavorful and the bread was maybe my favorite part of the meal! I can't wait to go back in the future. read more

It's the Yats we all know and love! Yats has a vegan option and vegetarian option--my favorite is the B&B. Make sure you get the extra bread--it is the best fifty cents you'll ever spend. This is some heavy food--mentally prepare yourself to be filled to the gills. This is a great place if you need a quick dinner! What I like about this location is that in the summer you are able to sit outside on College Avenue and people watch while you are eating. Just be aware that they close at 8:30pm on Saturday (for now). read more

Stick to your ribs Cajun food. This place is super underrated. You need to come eat here and they will make a return customer out of you. I always get extra bread (meal on its own) I would suggest what to order but it's all amazing. The ambiance is awesome and the staff is super friendly. I first tried Yats over ten years ago. At that time they were cash only and when I got to the cash register I didn't have enough cash. They were kind enough to let me have my food and pay my IOU later. The spirit of that grace hasn't changed and neither has their food. Their menu is usually small but delicious. If you are looking for something different and haven't tried Cajun food before, treat yourself. Even if you are an expert, Yats doesn't disappoint. read more

I want to love Yats, I really do. But what holds it back is that the food tastes about two levels above Whole Foods hot takeout. In New Orleans, this would be called "Creole-style" and "Cajun-style"-- order a variety of what they offer and you'll find that much of it tastes the same, and the seasoning and depth of flavor is just MIA. The portions are good and the prices are friendly, as are all the staff members. Yats has had a solid run for many years now in the city and I appreciate them. What they do, they do quite well. I love this place with all of me! At one point I ate here every week, multiple times a week. All locations have friendly service and the food always taste the same. I'm a pescatarian so it's nice to have seafood and vegetarian/vegan options as well. I absolutely love the drink machine, it's so hilarious so I highly recommend checking it out, even if you aren't getting a fountain drink! read more

I love this place! I'm shocked that I haven't reviewed yet. There was a place similar to this when I was in college and when I first moved to Indianapolis I was so happy to find there is a spot that still can make me have so much joy in food! First off, I love the decor and the staff here. They're very cool and casual and they just love that patrons have a great experience. My last visit here was last week for Mardi Gras! They were even giving out free slices of King Cake! One of my favorite items is the B&B because of the sweet and spicy sauce they cook it in but obviously I had to come get some crawfish so the awesomeness here is that you can get a half and half order! Yats has a great atmosphere that was apparent right when I walked in. All of the employees behind the counter seemed happy to be there and were joking around with each other. Though they were having fun, they were still attentive and were ready to take my order the second that I got up to the counter. They greeted me with a friendly "hello" when I walked in and maintained that friendliness throughout the ordering process. In terms of decor and atmosphere, there are all sorts of unique decorations and artwork hung around the restaurant. This decorative style helps the overall feeling of character and warmth that I get from Yats. It almost felt like someone's living room with unique artwork, signs, and instruments spread around everywhere, making me feel very comfortable and welcome. There's also a decent amount of seating, with the choice to sit at the bar/counter or at one of several tables. The food that I ordered (Drunken Chicken) was great as well, serving as the perfect warm comfort food on a cold day. I ended up having to leave early and an employee was very helpful in providing me a to-go box. I also had a friend with me that is vegan and was able to find food that fit their diet. The only downside I could find was the parking situation. Since it's located on College Avenue, there isn't a dedicated parking lot and you have to park on the relatively busy street. I didn't struggle much to find parking since it was the middle of the day on a weekday, but I did have to walk a bit from my car and I imagine parking would be very difficult on a weekend evening. Overall, I really enjoyed Yats' atmosphere, food, and employees. I would be happy to stop in again and definitely will. 4/5 stars (Would be 5/5 with better parking). read more

We love coming to yats! The chicken maque choux is to die for and the bread that comes with it is so addicting. We also love the white drunken chicken (a bit spicy) and the chili cheese etoufee (if you like crawfish). Yats is the perfect place to get quick comfort food. When I say quick, I mean they have your food ready before you even pay sometimes! We really love this location but haven't dined in in about a year due to COVID. They are currently renovating inside so I'm curious to see if they're expanding seating area or what! You can park anywhere on College or 54th street with no problem. read more

The Crawfish Étouffée is the way to go. I've tried others, but that's my favorite. You should always get extra bread. You'll need it to soak up the extra sauce. I like to get garlic sauce to put over the étouffée too. I usually get the double portion because it's so cheap! And then I have leftovers for 1-2 more meals. It's perfect to order and pick up. I take anyone who visits me here for food. I will keep going back. My brother was the one to recommend the étouffée to me. He is great at finding all the right restaurants. read more

I am a picky eater, a vegetarian and I loved this place. Wow. I grew up in Indy and barely came here as I was unfamiliar with New Orleans cuisine and hesitated. MAN, was I missing out. Love the setup you can chill and eat at their locations or take it to go (please don't dine in rn if you can). Everything's well packaged, pickup was easy and the price was phenomenal. Ordering was simple! I got the vegan chili which was good but what made it was the bread. I'm not a big bread guy in fact I usually detest bread on table moves. However the seasoning they do was insane. Also I am over the moon about the cookies they serve. In fact I think it was THE best cookie I have ever had. If you crave creole food, you can go to Yats. I love the one I'm Broadripple the best. The owner sometimes come in and chat with the customers. That is what I call good service. Sometimes they give you extra bread for free when they made too many. My fav is crawfish etoufee. Their spinach etoufee is another. On a road trip, stopped in Indianapolis for lunch at this gem of a place on College Ave. They were very kind and allowed us to try the stews before ordering. They had three vegetarian options and I got a half and half of the vegan white chili with tofu and the spinach and mushroom etoufée. The plate comes with rice and two pieces of bread layered with cajun seasoning. Both were so different and flavorful!!! Generous portion size as well!
