This Yats location has a certain NOLA charm that the Carmel counterpart lacks. Think dim lights, counter seating, cozy atmosphere, and Mardi Gras decor. No frills but with some personality. I went with the half and half (best way to have the best of both worlds) with B&B and red beans and sausage. Neither are spicy which is right up my alley. I LOVE the red beans and sausage dish and will definitely get it next time. Also, that magical bread they serve it with - is it made with crack? Note that this location accepts cash & card, like all other Yats locations. Also, parking is tricky since there isn't much street parking available with the BlueIndy stations. Parking at Fresh Market is frowned upon so park on a side street and walk a few blocks. read more

As I always say, ethnic/regional foods like Cajun food in Central Indiana always have to be graded on a curve, so to speak. It's totally nonsensical to say "Yats sucks compared to ____ in New Orleans." No shit, Sherlock. But you're almost 900 miles from New Orleans, aren't you? Having said that, Yats is very good, for Cornlandia. The fact that it even exists here is worthy of 3 stars. If you don't agree with or understand that, you will when Yats shuts down and is replaced by the 2057th burger joint in Central Indiana and rue the day you nitpicked one of Yats' menu items. The food selection is decent and flavors are pretty good (yes, I have been to New Orleans - four times). You have to add your own spicy sauce to approximate real Cajun food, but, again, you are in Indiana so take what you can get. read more

So the food is usually really good, but not sure what happened tonight. I got a sample of drunken chicken which was delicious. They were out of spin and mushroom (as always), so I just got a half order of drunken chicken. The drunken chicken I received was very different from my sample. It was basically chunks of chicken with barely any sauce. And the portion was so small compared to every other time. When mixing it with the rice, there was so little drunken chicken that it's barely flavorful. The sample was full of flavor so I'm really confused. They also didn't tell me they didn't have onions until he handed me the bag. I wouldn't have ordered anything if they didn't have the onions because that that is my usual. I'll give them one more chance, but I hope they get their portions right and get better at making sure they have ingredients. read more

House fare is Cajun / Creole and it is AUTHENTIC deliciousness that I haven't had since Nawlins! It doesn't matter what you order, it will be phenomenal. This place is amazing. I have never had cajun/creole food before but I was pleasantly surprised. Just walking in I knew this place was legit! It smelled like spices and definitely looks the part of a New Orleans inspired restaurant. The environment here is is jazzy and cool with tons of unique relics and knick knacks to look at. I had no idea what to order so they gave me a couple small samples to try, which I really appreciated. I've never tried creole food so I was worried about paying for a dish I hated. Even if I didn't like it though, a whole plate of food is only $8.25, and this filled me up. I got the crawfish etouffee and it was a little spicy but the creaminess of the dish helps it not overpower the dish. Served over rice and garlic bread, this meal had me ready for a great nap. One thing I took account for was how great the staff is here. Their energy is so kind and enthusiastic. You can tell they care about their jobs and they aren't here to ruin anyone else's day. I can tell when I come back I am going to have a great experience. I came here on a Sunday night at 6pm and it was pretty busy. BUT, I got my food in 10 min which I consider pretty fast. Each dish is served over rice, and comes with bread. Soft drinks available. I've been coming here for decades and can't think of why I've never reviewed it here. Each batch is consistent. This is home-cooked food (they make it more or less from scratch in the kitchen every day), and is pretty flavorful. Downsides: no fresh salads or veggies; somewhat limited seating; counter-driven but delivered within a couple minutes of your order or less; not formal dining; no major culinary advances. Upsides: inexpensive, very tasty, consistent, friendly, cafe atmosphere, patient staff, reasonable prices, great for carry out. If you've never been, go. Find parking.
