I dont usually like going out to breakfast but this place has more options than just the usual breakfast dishes found at other breakfast coffee shops. In addition it's such a pretty little casual cafe with an ocean view, it's a really nice place to enjoy a meal. It's painted bright sunny yellow and the food is consistently good. You order & pay for your food and espresso drinks at the counter and then the waitstaff delivers it to your table. My favorite dishes are the Sunshine Panini with a side of bacon, Avocado Toast with tomatoes, the quiche special, and the crepes with strawberries bananas and Nutella. So far everything is delicious! They even have Golden Milk and lovely pastries. read more

Worst customer service ever. The counter person could not speak English, charged me $25 for a breakfast burrito I did not order. She gave me attitude because I had to keep repeating my order. While trying to pay the entire time she tapped her long nails on the counter top and glared at me. Then she went back to the kitchen to complain about me in Spanish. Small cafe which packs a heavy menu and meals! If you haven't been to Yellow Vase then you should know that they serve brunch, coffee and pastries. My go to is the mexican Omelet, and the Spanish Latter(iced). I went to the Silver Spur location last week and had a wonderful experience. It has a very chill vibe. Had a wonderful brunch at Yellow Vase. The roasted vegetable scramble with cheese, bread and a small salad. Initially planned to order the vegetable omelette, however the cashier suggested the scramble as something she liked better. It was an excellent choice! The location of Yellow Vase is perfect for breakfast after a good trail run at Point Vicente which is right across the restaurant. We've seen this place before while running along the Palos Verde Coast and decided to try it the next time we ran again. There was a line of folks when we saw it and a line again when we visited. So surely that must be a good sign we thought. There is seating both indoor and outdoor. But even sitting indoor you get a good view of the outdoor. We chose indoor because it was a bit chilly with the spring breeze coming from the shore but had a good window side table. The decor was very colorful and inviting. They have a self-serve water station where you can also pick up a menu and select your food to order as you wait in line. You can also use the online menu from their QR code. You would order and pay at the counter then sit a table of your choosing at which food is then served to you. My wife ordered the Strawberry Salad, my daughter ordered the Brioche French Toast. When I ordered the Salmon Crepe and asked for a plain croissant from their baked goods display case to be added to my order, the cashier told me I would need to take the croissant now. I thought that very odd and maybe she didn't understand me so I repeated that I would like to croissant served with my order as I didn't like the idea of nibbling on it before my main breakfast is served. She again said no she can't. I just politely told her to just please grant my request and she complied. VERY WEIRD. The verdict: 1. Brioche French Toast- My daughter loves brioche but for some reason the brioche used in this French toast gave some unusual taste. She ate it all but said she won't order it again. SO-SO 2, Strawberry Salad- this was quite refreshing from the fresh strawberries and the walnuts along with the balsamic dressing were a good contrasting flavor.- WIN! 3. Salmon Crepe- generous portion of salmon filled in nice moist crepe. The lemon caper sauce was very good with the dill providing a nice mild zing. 4. Croissant- it was a good sized piece but incredibly dry. It was either a day or more old, or it seemed like the dry croissants you buy at Costco. FAIL All in all, I would still go back when we do our trail runs. It is a nice relaxing place to have breakfast and enjoy an ocean view. read more

Although their breakfast items are really good, I cannot say the same for the coffee. I usually don't order coffee, but during a recent visit, I ordered a cup. It was really bitter and sour. I added 5 sugars and 9 creamers but I could only drink 1/4 of the coffee. I expected to have good tasting coffee, being that it is a French style cafe, but I couldn't get past the bitter coffee. read more

Cute and cozy decor and ambiance, excellent service. Indoor and outdoor seating. Not sure I can say the same about the food. All four of us thought our food was kinda bland. Nothing special about it, just basic. I did like that the veggie omelette was not greasy or overwhelmed with cheese, but again, just kinda basic which was fine, but I wanted a kick of flavor from something. The roasted potatoes were cooked through but not truly roasted. They should be browned but they appeared to be boiled and very lightly roasted and again, no flavor, not even salt. The baked goods looked like they were good and so did the crapes, I will probably try that next time. I do like that they have freshly squeezed orange juice available. read more

Terrible. Food was prepared terribly. My order was a super simple breakfast order of two eggs over easy, baguette toasted and side salad. The salad was old and wilted and they applied their horrible balsamic on it, bread was hardly toasted and soggy, and the eggs were decent. I ate it because I paid for it. Chose to sit outside because the A/C wasn't even on and it was super hot inside. I can't believe why the A/C would be off on one of the hottest days of the summer July 24. Gross. My mom and I saw what looked like a bakery from the outside and decided to grab some coffee and a pastry perhaps. When we walked in realized it was a cute little French themed cafe that also served breakfast/lunch. I had the salmon cove crepe and my mom had the California chicken panini with a honey vanilla latte. I had the Spanish latte. Everything was absolutely delectable. We've returned for breakfast here quite a few times ever since and if not for breakfast definitely for the coffee. A perfect foam every time. The new Yellow Vase in Peninsula Center is a great choice for lunch. It is a small cafe with a large bakery case and a good-sized patio. Alas, it was too cold for the patio, so we were inside. It was about $40 for lunch for the two of us, and it was SUPER fast. Friend had the kale chicken salad, which was generously portioned. I ordered the veggie scramble and was disappointed that they did not disclose all of the veggies used, but it was not too hard to pick around the potatoes (which I loathe). It is a cute place to have lunch on the Hill in a reasonable amount of time. I will be back. read more

We have eaten there 4 times in the Peninsula Center location. The first time everything went well. The food was quite good and there is variety in their menu. I had the curry chicken sandwich which was sizable and tasty. Also the second time was fine, I had the Californian omelet and a morning glory muffin. The third time was not so good. The food was fine but although I told the person taking my order that we would be sitting outside as we had our dog with us (as we had done before) and it was cold/windy we would like them to turn on the heater near our table. The food arrived but no heater turn on. I went inside and was told they didn't have any gas. Since the order taker repeated that we wanted a heater this was understood. If they weren't able to do that I would think there counter person should have known and told us so. The next time we were eating inside. Someone brought our order and I told them I had ordered hot tea but they hadn't brought it. They mumbled something and I presumed they would get it. Not so, I finally had to go back to the cashier and complain. She immediately went and got it and brought to our table but all in all I think this wasn't great service. read more

The food here is much more consistent than the service. Most of their food is excellent and likely better than you might expect, especially when it comes to their breakfast, sandwiches, pasta and dessert! The prime rib was especially delicious; the chicken (in any dish) is so succulent and tender; the Alfredo has a perfect balance of lightness with flavor! (Best I've ever had!); and the desserts are impeccable - the cannoli could be served in Italy! Unfortunately, the steak and fries is NOT as advertised. Menu says it's an 8oz center cut but in reality, it is an incredibly frail hangar steak that is largely inedible fat - huge disappointment; I do not recommend! There was so little meat on this "steak" that I left hungry (after paying way too much to not be fed). The ambiance overall is very quaint and perfect for couples! There is usually a very serene atmosphere to this place. However, that really depends on which crew is working. The daytime crew is great! They are helpful and may even go out of their way to give advice. Unfortunately, the closing crew is absolutely awful! A disgrace to any restaurant but especially one in Rolling Hills/Palos Verdes! Rude, unprofessional and inappropriate staff members can turn a heavenly place into a nightmare. Beware of this crew! They took our order and our payment THEN proceeded to tell us that they close at 8pm, "just so [we] know"... even though it was almost an hour away. So does this restaurant kick people out if they don't finish before the time they stop taking orders? I thought the whole appeal of this place is supposed to be a European cafe where you get to take your time and relax? What kind of business does that, especially AFTER you already took my money and gave me no other option? I was finished with my food and out of the door with 15 minutes to spare, by the way, so the pestering was absolutely uncalled for. Additionally, this cruel crew decided to lock the bathrooms an entire hour before closing/stop-taking-orders-time! What kind of nice restaurant locks their patrons out of the bathroom while still serving them food and beverage? Despicable! On top of that, this crew is so unwelcoming and careless about their customers, that they started mopping the floor in front of the entrance, 30 minutes before closing/stop-taking-orders-time! Are you serious? That's called a hazard! To make matters worse, the "employee" decided to engage in karaoke while cleaning around me as I'm eating. If I wanted to hear karaoke while I ate, I would've went to a karaoke bar, not Yellow Vase. I could've let that go, as inappropriate and unprofessional as it is, if you hadn't insulted us, rushed our meal and locked us out of the bathroom - which we have a legal right to use. It's such a shame to see such a beautiful place with such polar opposite environments depending on the crew. If this place were consistent in who they hire, it'd be a sure-fire pleasure to visit this location. read more

You place and pay for your order at the counter, they'll give you a number and then you choose where you wish to sit. They'll bring out the food to you. Figure on spending between $15-20 per person as meals average $15 and their beverages are $4/5. The do not offer fountain sodas so you'll be buying individual cans. Pretty disappointing. Ordered a tuna sandwich and mango smoothie. Tuna sandwich was so salty and sad that I couldn't even finish it. "Salad" accompanied it was wilted so that wasn't any good.
