I just read in Sauce Magazine about the changes the owners under went earlier this year. I came here to say it shows! We first ate here in 2019, we enjoyed it but thought it was expensive- a once in awhile date night kind of vibe. This time, we stopped in on Mother's Day- it was busy but not packed. The atmosphere was wonderful. More casual but upscale. We sat on the patio and enjoyed every item! This is a great shake up from all the bar food places of that area. Yemanja Wood Fired Grill- Aruba (Thursday 5/4) In general this restaurant is very unique and has a very interesting menu with various food options that you won't find elsewhere if you love fine dining and food this is recommended. Wife enjoyed the "Filo Dough with Goat Cheese" starter and "Ribeye Steak" for main dish. She loved the Goat Cheese appetizer. She said that the Ribeye Steak was probably the best she has ever had in her life. I had the"Caribbean Calamari & Octopus" and "Stuffed Pork Tenderloin" main dish. I was disappointed with the "Calamari and Octopus" starter since the octopus was very rubbery and hard to chew and I had to remove a couple of pieces from my mouth. The Calamari was ok but nothing special. Pork Tenderloin was very nicely prepared and presented. However nothing exceptional. I obviously did not order the best dishes on the menu. We ended the meal by sharing the Chocolate Molton Lava Cake- Took a while to get prepared, but definitely wonderfull desert. Service was good and attentive. However, I felt a bit "rushed" in making my drink and menu ordering choices. read more

You eat with your eyes first and Yemanja Brasil definitely sets the stage for a wonderful dining experience. I went there with my daughter on a Saturday evening. We arrived right at 5, early enough to get our choice of seating on the heated patio. Tables were spaced comfortably and the decor was very well done in vibrant colors with lovely Christmas decorations added in. Our server greeted us soon after we were seated and brought water. Her attention was stellar throughout our meal. We ordered drinks, first the Brazilian Sunrise, then I had the Passion Fruit Martini and my daughter had the Cadillac Caipirinha (with fruit). They were all delicious. For starters we ordered the tamales and the shrimp empanadas; the empanadas ruled! For our entrees, my daughter ordered the special which was a very meaty, large rib, served with collard greens and whipped yams; I had the strip steak (Bife Acebolado) with carmelized onions, collard greens, black beans over rice and farofa. Everything was presented beautifully! I immediately dug into the collards. Wow! The flavor was fantastic, with just a hint of smokiness. The steak was perfectly chargrilled to medium and topped with equally perfect carmelized onions; every bite was buttery deliciousness! I had a bite of the rib which was fall of the bone tender and seasoned just right. The portions were generous; we took some home. After such a wonderful meal we thought it only fair to give the dessert offerings a try. They did not disappoint. We ordered the flan and a Brasilia style tiramisu knowing we would take them home after tasting at the restaurant. Again, no disappointment; the flan was rich and creamy and the tiramisu was a masterpiece. A cup of coffee topped with Bailey's finished us and the meal off! I definitely will visit often! read more

Went here for Friday night dinner. The outdoor patio was bulging with people so had to sit indoors. This is in the Soulard area so it is obviously in a beautiful neighborhood. Yemanja has been here forever so it has stood the test of time. Last time I was here was quite a while ago. The interior is tastefully decorated and they play Brazilian music which is nice since it is a Brazilian place. It is a super clean restaurant. It is obvious that they are cleaning it. It was spotless inside. They have a good menu and great service. The busser and wait staff/manager are all very attentive without being annoying. The food was delicious. We got shrimp empanadas to start. Very. nice pastry and a delicious filling. A potato appetizer was crispy and hot! I got a special (sorry forget the name) it was half an acorn squash with a creamy sauce with shrimp and rice. It was very, very good. I know it may not sound like that but I loved every bite and took a lot home. The portion size is large. Two companions got the Feijoada which they both loved. You have to know how to eat this and they explained it nicely when it was served. The drinks are fantastic. Caipirinhas were excellent. They had strawberry and watermelon and the classic plus other cocktails. The passion fruit martini was amazing. The bartender... it was his first night, they were busy and he was killing it! My husband and I tried this establishment in preparation for a visit from friends that have travelled to and lived in Brasil. The food was delish, the caipirhinas were fabulous and fresh, and the atmosphere was intriguing. We will absolutely be taking our friends here when they visit! We had appetizers,drinks, main course that we split and took some home and then dessert for around 60 with tip. We have spent way more for much less food, service and atmosphere. I'm actually kind of mad at myself that it's taken me this long to visit Yemanja... luckily it was the spot for this month's International Supper Club meeting and we lucked out bigtime with the weather, so the patio was perfect. A fruit-filled boozy drink in 75 degree weather? Okay. A table in the middle of bright blues, yellows, and all kinds of cool artwork and lighting? Works for me. A menu full of flavorful Brazilian fare? You're really twisting my arm now. This place is full of character and has an amazing energy that's going to keep me coming back for more. I wanted to try some appetizers but wasn't hungry enough, so tonight I had the Portabella Recheado, which is a jumbo (and they mean jumbo) portabella mushroom with cashew stuffing in balsamic reduction, served with vegetables and brown rice. My first thought was that the vegetables were AMAZING... so much variety and flavor. I could have made a meal out of the veggies & rice alone. The mushroom was good, but the cashew stuffing had a texture I couldn't handle too much of. I'll probably try another vegetarian dish next time. The bathroom ROCKS and I think I told someone tonight that is was magical, and I'm quite sure that's the only time I've used magical to describe a bathroom. My only critiques... oh man, get some sort of torches or lighting to get rid of the mosquitoes. I have marks all over me after our dinner! Second thing... it took about a half hour to get our checks straightened out and paid. We had a big group, but I still feel like they should be able to take care of that faster. Awesome night! Celebrating 15 years? Yemanja Brasil has been in STL for 15 years and I never been or heard of them. I must of been living under a rock. I am so glad The International Supper Club introduced me to this fantastic little gem. Being a Tuesday night, Brad was off work and able to attend this ISC. With a extra mouth of taste buds, I was able to experience more of the menu, then if I were attending alone. Trust me, we took total advantage of the opportunity doing a 3-2-3 experience. We started out with three appetizers: Marisco Buzios - Fresh Mussels. The mussels were fresh and steamed in a white wine seafood broth. The mussels were great, but the broth was on the watery side. I love a richer broth that I am eager to soak up with fresh bread. Aipim Frito - Fried Yucca Root. Move over french fries, these things were the bomb. They were cut like big steak fries, sprinkled with Parmesan Cheese and served with a curry dipping sauce. I loved it and I don't like curry. Who knew a root could have so much flavor. Ceviche do Sul - Seasoned Bay Scallops, shrimp, onion & cilantro in Tangy citrus tomato marinade, served chilled. Great way to start a meal, light and refreshing. Next we had two entrees: Bobo de Camarao - Jumbo Shrimp in a spicy yucca coconut cream sauce & rice. The shrimp truly were jumbo and prepared to perfection. The sauce was just spicy enjoy to give it a flavorful kick. I recommend this to any shrimp or seafood lover. Espentinhos Gaucho - Charbroiled Sirloin Beef Kabobs, with Julian Vegetables and Rice. The Kabobs were grilled medium rare and seasoned just enough to allow the true flavor of the beef shine through. For a beef lover this is a good dish, but when I go back I'm ordering the Jumbo Shrimp again. For a big finale, we ordered three desserts. We like going out with a Big Bang and these three set off fireworks. Pudim Carioca - Flan. To die for, the best Flan I have ever had and I love Flan like Stephanie S. loves Bread Pudding. I highly recommend this, it is light, cool and refreshing. Pudim de Coco - Coconut Bread Pudding in a rich Caramel Cream Sauce topped with coconut. Stephanie will love it! Bread Pudding, Caramel and coconut makes for a dreamy dessert. Pavee da Nena - Brazilian Tiramisu. You like chocolate, you like this dish. It was rich, heavy and full of chocolate flavor for the chocoholic in all of us. That completed our dinner with ISC and we were content. The patio was a great venue for a large group of foodies. It was a cool night so it made for pleasant dining. Pleasant until it got closer to dusk and those feisty mosquito's wanted to start dining on us. Thank goodness our event was over and we were leaving. When it was time to spilt the bill, they struggled. There has to be a better way to seperate a bill for a large group. read more

Being from Brazil, I crave brazilian food regularly. I was delighted to know that there was a Brazilian restaurant here in St. Louis. Obviously I had to come as soon as my cravings kicked in. Service was good and pretty quick. Owner (who's also from Brazil) came over to check on us from time to time. The interior design is very tropical and cute - definitely made me nostalgic of my country. I ordered the feijoada and I was super satisfied with the portion size (b/c I'm a big eater and hate small portions). -1 star only because I came with huge expectations on what to pick from the menu. I was expecting a lot more Brazilian food to be included in the menu (but this could simply be because I've been exposed to all the Brazilian food one could ever ask for). I came here for my 30th birthday with my family and we tried so many items on the menu. The palm heart empanadas were a brand new experience for me and they were great - creamy inside and flaky outside. Perfect! Torradinhas Leme was another appetizer we tried that was also good, my second favorite from our choices. We also had the shrimp empanadas which were my least favorite because of the sauce. My mom enjoyed those the most. With that being said, each palette will have a chance to find something enjoyable from their menu! Frango Minas was my mom's selection and she really enjoyed the unique addition of raisins to the meal. My brother, a true foodie, had Feijoada de Ogum. He said the meat was excellent but everything else was basic and could easily be prepared at home. Be mindful of mixing the farofa entirely because it will create a change in texture. Pescado Miranda was the best dish of the night with a surprising mixture of flavors throughout the entire meal. A unique experience for my taste buds with cheese and banana, nothing I ever thought of pairing before. This was so good and not a single bite was left from all of us wanting to eat more and more of this meal. Moqueca Bahiana was the dish that brought me here from the photos on Yelp. It was good but I am not a big fan of squid or calamari. The dish did not describe what kind of seafood to expect but it didn't ruin it for me. The plating was beautiful. This review is for the tamales we pickup during Covid times. They were well packed, came with instructions for stove top, microwave and oven reheating, and they were also DELICIOUS. I actually saw a post on nextdoor app and reached out to the owner. The communication was good and pickup at their food truck was a breeze. Our exchange student inspired us to try brasilian food and we loved it. The staff was wonderful and I think he enjoyed speaking Portuguese with them. The menu had vegetarian selections which I truly appreciated. I got the stuffed portobello and it was amazing. Their house made sauces are extraordinary. Salad simple and delicious. We recently bought a house less than a block from here. We stopped by after our first day of unpacking and had a wonderful welcome to the city. Excellent food, a great bar, and very friendly staff. Don't look at me like that. *insert nose wrinkle* It was a very good lightly fried pot pie. :) Feijoada de Ogum: Wow. What a fantastic meal. SO FILLING! A big pot of black beans with pork. You then ladle this soup onto a bed of rice, mix in the "farofa" ("Toasted manioc (yucca) flour seasoned with sautéed garlic, onions, carrots, raisins, and parsley,") and mix in the collard greens. Sounds like quite an effort but it is very easy and VERY yummy! Kicks a little bit of spice that sneaks up on you! A definite comfort food. You could easily share this with someone and both be very full and satisfied. The soup of the day was a Shrimp Bisque and I was all about that. A very good soup and also a wonderful comfort food. In general it was a very small menu but that doesn't matter if most the food on it is fantastically made... Well until we get to the Dessert part. heh. There were 3 items and not liking Amaretto, chose the Flan. It was meh. I have to add that although I have no idea what kind of coffee they have it was a GREAT cup of coffee! We had a pleasant waitress and it was a slow night as I'm sure all of those not at Oktoberfest were avoiding the immediate area like the plague. So service was nice and the other service people were up on the water etc... Smiles by all. This is definitely going to be one of the places we will keep coming back to. This one is going in our favorite list. TLDR: Go eat there! Nice welcoming place. Try the soup!!! Small menu. Don't expect to compromise and have something like a burger. The menu is small but good and true to their cuisine. "Feijoada de Ogum" was featured in the St. Louis magazine and rightly so. YUM! 3 dessert items, that's it. Flan was meh. I am in love with St. Louis. I love the old brick buildings, I love when you walk into a place and just feel warm and at home. That being said I have heard of Yemanja Brasil and driven past it several times and never had a chance to stop there until my visit 2 weeks ago. It was a girls night, but Yemanja in the evening felt very romantic, fireplaces, warm greetings, great sangria. We had a great night, great service, and excellent food. For my first venture, I tried the Caldorado, which is a seafood soup that is not always on the menu. It was perfect for one of the first chilly nights we had. We decided to eat dinner at Yemanja mostly because we wanted to use a Groupon that we've been sittin' on for awhile. We saw that they had Happy Hour from 5-7pm where there was drink specials and free appetizers, but none were really from the regular menus (wings, chips etc...) so we decided to just stay downstairs and have dinner. Our waitress was very helpful with recommendations and we're glad since we really couldn't narrow down what we wanted to eat. A lot of menu items were unfamiliar to us. To drink we ALWAYS order the Caipiroskas. These are fruity vodka drinks on the rocks....VERY potent so one is plenty. Today they had passion fruit and strawberry ones, but not always...usually they are lime. For starters we got the Empanadas de Camarao which are empanadas filled with shrimp and cream sauce...they are a bit overcooked on the outside, but we ate them anyway since the inside was very yummy. For our entree we decided on the Xin Xim Galinha which was a chicken breast covered w/ shrimp and a reddish sauce over rice. We read that the entrees were really large so we decided to split ours and good thing too. They brought us the entree on two separate plates and it really looked like we had two full servings. Many restaurants that we've visited have been doing this and we are very grateful. You get a choice of soup or salad w/ your entree so we picked the carrot soup.....soooo good!! The decor is very cozy and inviting and has an elegant feel to it, but by no means stuffy or too formal. You can go in shorts and a t-shirt no problem. I can't give this place 3 stars, bc it just didn't strike me as that. From incredibly slow service, to food that was "ok". I expected much more, since the reviews seem to be raving. Here's what I can say the place is huge and could certainly hold a group. Their Cadillac cachaca was amazing...and a few of those would have you calling a cab! I also adore the jewelry and trinkets from Brazil that the owners features in the dining area in a lovely case. After dinner I spent another $33 on handmade items from Brazil. My dish was a veg dish, portabella marinated with a balsamic, tasted ok. It was stuffed with this mixture of ground cashews and a toasted yucca flour. It created this very unwelcoming texture and appearance. The other entree was a shredded chicken with rice and veg. It had a decent flavor but it just didn't seem too great. The portions were large, but for mostly rice and finely diced veg mixed in it was not so great. We started with empanadas (shrimp) not very flavorful and they were so over done they crumbled. To round it out, we had to ask the nice woman and the owner (who we did not know was the owner) for our check because our server was MIA. We used a Groupon for a return visit to Yemanja for the first time in over 10 years. We are not experts on Brazilian food, I have only been in Brazil twice and ate more churrasco. Our friends who lived there and co-workers from there, preferred Café Brazil. I like the atmosphere, very homey. It was not busy at all for a Saturday night, but we were early by Brazilian standards. Ms T and I started off with some decent Empanadas Camarao. They were piping hot and had a creamy filling that had some tartness with the cream. The shrimp were flavorful. Ms T ordered the Xin Xim de Galinha. This comprised two chicken breasts in a creamy coconut milk sauce with some shrimp thrown in. It had a little chile heat and was excellent over the rice. I had the Lombo Ipanema, which was pan seared slices of pork loin with pineapple. It had a tangy rich pan sauce from the pork and fruit. It was served with black beans over rice and some potato salad. All were very good. The pork was tender, moist and flavorful. One slice was thinner and slightly over done, but all in all it was very good. I love simple black beans and rice and these fit my taste. I also liked the style of potato salad with mayo and whole grain mustard. (not sweet, no Miracle Whip). Farofa was also part of the pork dish. I have to admit I don't "get" farofa and don't usually eat much of it. Both were very large servings and we brought food home. I would definitely go back and would take friends. Both dishes would be re-orders but there are certainly more good things to try. I will say the salad Ms T had and the carrot soup (of-the-day) I had were not anything special. My soup was barely warm and pretty plain. The main courses made up for it. I also liked the iced tea which was smoky, somehow. read more

Delicious! We couldn't choose an appetizer so the waitress suggested an off-the-menu "sampler platter" and it was a great sample of what this place can do. Yucca fries with an amazing curry mayo, French toast bites (like bruschetta), and one empanada. I had a vegetarian dish--a portobello mushroom stuffed with cashews, sides of brown rice, and a veggie medley that had about ten different veggies and herbs and raisins. YUM. My husband had the kabobs--a popular dish. They were great. I had a caparinha (when in Rome!). It was strong, a little too sweet, but filled with fresh lines. I'd definitely order it again. In the beginning I was attempting to go to an event but failed to buy tickets before hand. I had planned to see if the event holder would put me on a wait list and just go down to the main restaurant and have an appetizer there while I waited. The restaurant was very pleasant and so is the wait staff. The owner was full of compliments and she was pleasant as well. She even sat and talked with me for a while while I wait for my food. The staff was very attentive and the restaurant itself was very clean. I definitely plan to go back there and have some empanadas. I did enjoy an appetizer of fried yuca.
