Great neighborhood Thai- we order from here every week. The curries are delicious (I love the mild- with lots of potatoes...it rocks) and their spring rolls are oh-so-fresh. I generally get carry out, but ate there once and was very pleased with the interior, service and presentation of the food. Possibly the best Thai in Chicago. A hidden gem with decent street parking! Small space, all white. Kind server. Perfect portions. Delicious. If you request levels of spice, they have a scale from 1-5. I'd start with 2 to feel it out. The food is delicious and fresh and has it's own life with individual flavors. I ordered the mini eggrolls which were ok, the drunken noodles w chicken which was good but the chicken was blah, and the basil beef which used ground beef and was oily but didn't have the sauce I love. After having driven or walked by the intersection of Foster and Damen many times. I decided to try Yes Thai. The inside was very modern. Everything was white. It is also kind of small. The tables feel right on top of each other. Luckily when I went the place was pretty empty. The food...I judge all Thai restaurants on the quality of the Pad Thai. The Pad Thai IMHO was ok. The price was a little expensive considering some of the places close by that have a have awesome Thai and are cheaper. Since when do you have to pay an extra 2 dollars to add chicken? read more

Yes, Thai, why not? I wish the website worked b/c I forgot exactly what it was we ordered there. My friend had this ground beef dish with peppers in it, and man was it pretty spicy. I can handle heat too, and this was nice for a Thai place to live up to some heat. I had shrimp pad Thai, pretty standard so next time I go out for Thai I am going to explore the menu a little more. When I lived in the hood I used to order from here at least once a week. It is a nice quaint BYOB restaurant. It is really clean and by no means a dive. Food is fantastic and great Thai Iced Coffee. Yes Thai is literally around the corner from where I live but I am still a lazy ass when I'm hungover and call for delivery. I place the call and in 20 minutes (or less!) it is delivered to my door hot, fresh, and tasty. I must be a freak because I ask for my dishes extra spicy and they are perfect. What I usually order is: 1. Red Curry Chicken with brown rice. Absolutely delicious and their brown rice is gooood. 2. Chicken Satay - really sumptious chicken 3. Pad Thai. It's the yummy sweet version - not the nasty fishy stuff that most Thai places serve. BTW... I don't order all these dishes at once! I think the portion size of one entree is perfect for 1.5 meals. Ordered for delivery. The pros: The food came quicker than was expected, everything was nice and hot, seaweed salad gets two thumbs wayyyyy up! The cons: a tad pricey and the Pad Thai was a nightmare. Orange colored rice noodles were chopped to bits, all stuck together in a noxious, sour clump. The tofu in the pad thai was pretty tasty, but I spent most of my time fishing through the noodle clump to skewer a piece here and there. My husband enjoyed the garlic rice w/chicken. The egg rolls were decent as well. Maybe I'm just ridiculously picky about Pad Thai, but I'm realizing that good Pad Thai is elusive. WOW! Best Thai I've tried since moving from SF to Chicago in 2013. The meat was tender and the sauces were flavorful! The heat/spice is present, but it doesn't overwhelm the dish. Our favorite was the Panang curry, but the salads and noodle dishes were also very tasty. There is a great corner store a couple blocks south on Damen that stocks a fantastic craft beer selection- we will have to remember that next time (BYOB). read more

Just to put it out there, I LOVE Yes Thai. I've only eaten at the restaurant once and that was prior to them redecorating the interior, but I remember the service being excellent. I have, however, ordered delivery from them many times. The food is always excellent, delivery is fast, and they're the only Thai restaurant that I know of that offers brown rice. The prices are very reasonable and their menu options are pretty varied. If I have one complaint, it would be that sometimes if you order by phone it can be a challenge to communicate with the person on the other end of the line. But now that they're on grubhub, that complaint is irrelevant. If you like great Thai food and are in the area, I highly recommend Yes Thai! read more

I feel betrayed! I have been eating at Yes Thai for several years, bringing out of town guests, and recommending it liberally. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the BYOB is a nice plus, even if the portions a little small. However, the last time I visited this establishment some chicken found it's way into my tofu curry. A suprise for my vegetarian taste buds, but a forgiveable offense. I decided to give it another chance with take-out and my curry dish arrived without rice! (and thankfully without chicken). After a call to the restaurant, they offered to deliver rice, but here I sit, almost 45 minutes later with cold curry and no rice. Time to get out the easy mac and swear off Yes Thai, at least for a while. read more

I get takeout from here...frequently. Sometimes it's been as often as once a week. Usually this means pad thai and green (or other) curry, both of which are perfect, but everything else I've tried has also been fantastic, including the basil (duck) and prik king catfish and a bunch of the appetizers. Solid Thai food, cute/charming atmosphere, friendly service. I was surprised at how small and narrow the interior space is, but in the summer their patio must double its seating capacity and make for a great outdoor dining experience. The apps we tried-- seaweed salad, chive dumplings, veggie egg rolls-- were all good, with the veggie egg rolls being the standout. If only I weren't such little piggie and managed to let mine cool down before scarfing it, I might have enjoyed it a little more so. The rama special was plated nicely and tasted great. It didn't look like enough food the way they piled all the tofu and broccoli on top of itself, but by the end of the plate, I was stuffed. Someone made some comment about not being able to take home leftovers... um... isn't that a good thing??? The only thing that might be annoying would be the pop radio music playing in the background, including bizarre pseudo-techno covers of 80s songs from Prince and Michael Jackson. Man do I miss living down the street from this place... The food here is arguably the best Thai food in the city. Obviously my opinion, but I'm a big noodle fan, and can't get the same quality anywhere else. My usual order is the Pad See Eiu, which is flavorful, sweet and cooked to perfection. I get the order with tofu, and its always cooked great and full of flavor, not bland like some places. Crab rangoons are out of this world, and from what I understand, they make their own sweet and sour sauce, which is the icing on the cake for this appetizer. I could swim in it - literally. Dine in service can be a bit spotty, but would usually order for take out, as this solved the problem. But if you do dine in, its BYOB, and in good weather, they have a nice little patio to sit out on. read more

I was here with a friend perhaps a week ago. I would have mentined it sooner, I just could not remember the name of the place. Firstly is was hot outside and they had a wonderful air conditioning system adn they are not stingy with ice water and were very attentive with the refills! We split some pot stickers as an appetizer, and they were decent. I had The Basil Chicken it was teh ground variety with lots of jalapenos! Very spicy an quite tasted very yummy. The rice was good. The portions were really big as well. I have to remember to remind my friend to say she wants her food mild. It was apparently hot and she is not so good with the spicey. So I will mention that the menu does not warn you that your head will be melted if you are not familiar with teh dishes! I will say the staff are very nice and attentive and I really liked the decor. I am going to point out again the darkness, maybe it's me, I am not asking for a bright place, but I had bit of a hard time with the menu. Maybe I wil just start carrying a little flashlight. My boyfriend and I decided on Yes Thai for my birthday dinner, since I was gunge-ho about partying it up with fancy beers at Hopleaf. (Yes Thai is fairly close to Hopleaf and I was craving me some Thai food). My two best girls met up with us for dinner and my boy brought with 3 delish beers - Chimay White, La Chouffe and honestly I cant remember the third, but whatever! BYOB rocks! :) So Yes Thai.... I was a bit disappointed with the appetizers all around. The crab Rangoon were small and a bit too crispy for my liking. The pot stickers were okay, but I've had better. As for my entree I chose the garlic chicken noodle with a side of peanut sauce (I could eat peanut sauce on everything - as far as Thai dishes are concerned), and it was delicious! This is the best thai food I have had- especially for the price!! I had never had thai before going to Yes for the first time, and it looks fancy and chic from the outside, so we planned our NYE dinner there- walked in looking swanky, were handed leather bound menus, and were SHOCKED to see entrees started at $6!! Our entire New Years Eve meal for two was under $20!! It was delish and we were treated as fancy as we looked! The great thing is that the next time we walked across the street in our sweat pants and were greeted the same way! Quick take out, friendly delivery, and an AWESOME atmosphere for dining in! The BYOB aspect is a plus as well (NO corkage fee!!) I strongly recommend the thai curry fried rice- not traditional curry with coconut milk, a semi-spicy alternative that is quite excellent. The boy always opts for the Pad Ke Mao and has never been let down. You HAVE to go with the edamame for appetizer- I've had it at many other Asian restaurants, and it has never tasted so fresh and they put the perfect amount of salt. A+ all the way!! read more

Yes Thai provides good thai food, even though not the best. The restaurant is modern with sleek, white decor. It is not to my personal liking, but to each their own I suppose. To me, the decor is stiff and not very welcoming and isn't the most comfortable to sit and have a meal. The food is tasty and spicy and the pad thai is admittely one of the better pad thais I have had in the city. The spicy basil is good but doesn't reach the tastiness of the Spicy Basil from Ben's at Bryn Mawr. Yes Thai is a touch more expensive than I would want and it comes to about $11 per plate, rather than the $7 - $10 dollars per plate at other Thai restaurants. I recommend Yes Thai but find myself not going there since there are other thai options I prefer, but if you are in the neighborhood this is a tasty place. read more

I've never eaten it, only take-out, but I have to agree with John B. who said the food is "strictly AmeriThai, but for what it is, it's good." Food specifics: We had the Green Curry (with beef), the Pad Thai (chicken) and Tom Yum soup (w/ tofu). My wife thought the Tom Yum was too oily, but I liked it. The Curry was pretty hot (no problem there) though otherwise somewhat bland. We both agreed that the Pad Thai was the best (read: most generally appealing) of the bunch, and would recommend getting that for future diners. Restaurant: Seemed busy enough for a Sunday night when I've stopped by. Cute digs, and looks better inside than I expected it to. I love this place. I go here at least once a week if not more (it helps that it is literally across the street). Prices are reasonable. Nothing on the menu (that i can think of) over 10 dollars. Tastes are always amazing. I have yet to be dissatisfied by a dish. Everything is always cooked perfectly. Never underdone, and never mushy. I haven't been to this little gem in several years and had forgotten about it. I have been missing out! We ordered the Satay and crab rangoon to start along with Tom Ka soup and added a Pad Thai chicken to share. When it started arriving we were sure ordered too much food. The satay order was huge. When we left we were stuffed and everything was gone. The curry satay was spectacular - OMG! The pad thai was also really delicious. This is a cozy little restaurant that serves an amazing Pad Thai. I've been going here for a couple of years now, and the wait staff has never been anything less than phenomenal. I never have to ask them to refill my water glass, and the food is always served in a timely manner. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and somewhat modern, and the restaurant is decorated very nicely with warm accents. The bathrooms are also very clean. The prices can be a little steep- $6 for a chicken satay appetizer but their desserts are amazing, especially the fresh lychee fruit. Had the worst experience at yes thai and will not go back. We decided to walk over and have dinner, they weren't crowded and only one table was seated. We walked in and asked for a table and was refused a table. The server got very angry with us and wouldn't help us at all. Worst experience I have ever had there.
