I had been craving Greek food and thought to try out Yiassoo. I ordered online and thought they closed at 8pm but in fact they only stop taking on line orders at 8. Unfortunately she read me my order and then when I got home I think it was wrong, unless chicken souvlaki add a pita to the order means I get it all in a pita and not on a skewer? The chicken was good, the half chicken was small but good, and my daughter liked her beef souvlaki. The rice was a little bland for me, but moist which says something. Greek fries were nice, just add feta. I've had others made a little more extravagant. I'll try Yiassoo again, though. It was nice enough to give their other dishes a try. read more

Yiassoo has been serving-up Greek food in the South Bay for well-over 20 years from what I can recall. Not sure which is the OG location, this or the Bascom Ave spot. I was never a big fan of their Gyros, as their meat always had an odd gummy texture and was always a bit too salty for me. So since I've been on a veggie kick lately I decided to give their veggie options a try and ordered a Yiassoo Veggie Platter ($12.50). The Good: - Falafel were pretty standard but had a nice crunch. - Spanakopita (Greek Spinach Pie) was OMG worthy: flaky, buttery and filled with a creamy, earthy spinach and feta filling that was truly delightful The Meh: - Hummus was bland and whatever - Greek salad was generic and needed some jazzing up with a dressing. Not sure why it was served dry? The Ugly: - Their dolmathes (rice wrapped in grape leaves) were just awful. The rice was gummy yet somehow under-cooked?! How is that even possible, one may ask. Well, evidently it is. Overall it was decent lunch and I enjoy the ambiance as they have a great patio area for enjoying the Cali weather. TIPS: Be ready to get your order in 5 minutes if you order ahead and ask for ketchup if you get fries. Also if you struggle to meet your daily water intake, come here because the sheer amount of salt will leave you drinking a gallon of water EASY. I pass by this place a lot and it's been on my bucket list for years but I never got around to going. Sister and I finally decided to just do it today and ordered pickup via Uber Eats for a picnic at the park. The food was ready a lot quicker than expected--the app said 15-20 minutes but they were finished in just 5, so by the time we picked it up it was already cold. Not their fault but something to keep in mind if you plan on ordering ahead! We got the gyro plate, which consisted of a gyro sandwich with fries and avgolemono soup, as well as the falafel sandwich. The pitas are fluffy and the gyro was super tender. I also did not expect to like the soup as much as I did--that might be the Canto in me jumping out though because it was basically a lemon chicken congee. The falafel sandwich though could've used more sauce and the falafels themselves were dry and crumbly, although maybe it would've been better had we eaten it fresh. The fries were just standard fries. They didn't come with ketchup though so make sure to ask for that! Any issues we had with the temperature of the food were overshadowed by the saltiness. Every item we ordered was just SO salty. We brought a bottle of water with us but it was no match for how thirsty we were after eating our meal. I always drive past this place! My bf lives down the street and on the way to Aqui (to get dinner and swirlz), he's like... ooh have you been here? We decided to come here for dinner last Friday (instead of Aqui cuz..blehhhhh) at around 6:30 pm and place was decently packed. A lot of take out orders. We ordered their lamb plate which was about $14. Plate came with a generous amount of lamb chunks, which were super delicious and tender, 4 pieces of pita, rice, hummus, and vegetable salad. We weren't full, but we weren't hungry. So two people sharing a plate is definitely doable. They give you two sauces too. The orange one is good, but a little spicy and a white one. We've been long time Yiasso customers and the food has been good. Recently however there seems to be a drop in quality. I normally order the salmon salad and in the past, the salmon is fresh and well cooked. I ordered this about two months ago and the thicker side of the fish was raw. I didn't eat the raw portion but still ended up getting a stomach ache. Greek cuisine is, hands down, one of my favorite ethnic cuisines. And we're very fortunate to have a number of Greek places here in the Bay Area. There are the more formal places like Opa!, Evvia Estiatorio, and Athena Grill, and there are the more informal, order-at-the-counter places like Nick the Greek, Greek Spot, and Yiassoo. Yiassoo was the first local Greek joint I went to back in the day, and my first visit was at this location. You can tell by looking at the exterior that this was a Taco Bell a long time ago. I hadn't been by here in ages, so I figured I'd stop by for dinner a few weeks back. They've done a great job at making adjustments for Covid, with hand sanitizer outside before you walk in, everybody inside wearing masks, etc. Price-wise, their items are either moderate or on the slightly more pricey side. Inside, there are Greek-related pictures and artifacts on the walls. The employees, also, are really nice. You can either order in-person or ahead on the phone. On both of my recent visits, I saw a few customers come in to pick up their orders that they'd already placed in advance. On my first recent visit, I ordered the Beef Souvlaki Plate and Loukoumathes for dessert. The plate came with fries and bread. It was ready in about 15 minutes. The fries and bread were pretty good. The beef was tender but pretty much flavorless. Disappointing. The Loukoumathes were delicious. On my second recent visit, I ordered the Steak Sandwich and Baklava for dessert. The sandwich was great. Very filling. The Baklava was delicious. No idea if they make them on-site, but either way, it was awesome. If their prices were a little bit cheaper, and they did a better job at making their meat a little more juicy and flavorful, then I'd have no problem giving them five stars. Oh Yiassoo, how I love thee. I have legitimately not had better casual Greek food ANYWHERE, but I might be a little biased since I'm so attached to this place. My family and I have been coming here since I was little. It's always the same guy working there :) Prices are good, the food is delicious, the place is small, cozy, and nicely decorated. You order at the counter, pick a table, and pick it up at the counter when it is ready. We've also ordered take out from here countless times. When I was little I would get the ham and cheese pita kids meal, the spanakopita (cheese and spinach filo pastry) and the loukaumades (fried dough balls in syrup). Now that I'm grown up (sort of?) I get the gyros plate (stuffed full of delicious gyros meat) or the vegetarian plate (You get a variety of items with this, including hummus, falafel, spanakopita, dolmathakia). My dad's go-to order is the moussaka plate (egg plant and beef casserole topped with a egg/cheese mixture topping, SUPER yummy). I think their prices have fluctuated a bit though the years (sigh, inflation) but all the places are in the $10-12 dollar range. THE WHITE SAUCE IS SO GOOD, I could dip bread in that forever. My orders: Gyro salad (comes with tatziki): if you like Greek salad, I highly recommend getting this! The veggies are super fresh and they give you a TON of meat. I think this is good for like 2 people? I definitely couldn't finish it by myself. Gyro sandwich: its like a scaled down version of a gyro salad wrapped in a soft fluffy pita. PRO TIP: ask for a little container of the white sauce to go and dump it on all your foods! It's reminiscent of ranch but it seems way lighter. Yiassoo is still the best place to get Greek food imo. Unfortunately, mine was missing the feta. This has been my "go to" gyro place for over two decades. And truth be told it really hasn't changed over that time. I usually order the gyro plate with fries. The fries are also excellent and the cucumber, tomato, green pepper salad, Horiatiki Salata is also solid. Their souvlaki is also a good choice. Portions are generous with a plate being enough for two meals for some folks. If you need even more you can order the super gyro (extra meat and extra cheese). Quality has always been top notch as has service. They serve Coke products. That said you do pay for the excellent food and large portions. I think it was actually a little crispy for some parts but it's ok because it tasted so good. The salad is a salad and the dressing was really good. It also came with the tzatziki sauce and a pita bread which was very nice. Overall, a delicious and filling meal that won't make you feel overstuffed. This place is the best restaurant to get a gyro. I've tried several in San Francisco and was so disgusted, I made two trips to Yiasoo in one week. The first time made me want it again soon after. I love this place! I always get the super gyro plate with salad and fries. The gyro is packed with meat. It's not oily or greasy. The meat is super tender and flavorful. The pita is really fluffy. You get a huge salad as well and the fries are SO good, especially when they're piping hot. The spicy sauce on the side isn't the Asian kind that some cheap places have. It's distinct and has a good kick to it. I think the prices are very fair, especially with inflation and everything that's happening right now. Service is quick and attentive. Lots of parking. My experience here started out okay and soured at the end. We ordered the combination plate and Greek fries. The combo plate has huge chunks of meat which makes it a meal for sharing and the price (~$17) reasonable. The presentation was very nice; colorful and pretty. I would have preferred smaller bite-size pieces; it was a little hard to chew. The charred taste was too strong. I would not order this again. The Greek fries was pretty bomb - nice and crispy with yummy cheese. One of the workers there was cleaning the garbage swing door. I appreciated their attention to detail and making this a clean establishment. Around 9pm, we noticed the girl putting the chairs on top of the table. We were confused and thought she was just cleaning up early as Yelp says they close at 9:30. I ask her to be sure, and imagine our surprise when she said they actually closed at 9pm. We immediately get up and start getting ready to leave and getting takeout boxes for our food. My boyfriend is a thoughtful person and he was worried that the workers didn't know Yelp listed the hours wrong. He goes up to the guy worker and lets him know. But he was rude and started getting annoyed with us. Hey, we were trying to help you out. If you're so annoyed with customers telling you your restaurant information is out of date, maybe you should do something about it instead of being rude. And it would have been informative if you guys let us know when we ordered our food that you were closing soon. And yup, right when we were leaving, a couple comes in and gets told the restaurant is closed. And they too were surprised and mentioned the hours were listed wrong on Yelp and the guy was rude to them too. I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

Honestly no complaints about the food or service. Portions were generous, taste was on point, and the food came out quickly. I ordered the gyros salad and the only thing I disliked were the olives but I wasn't much of an olive fan to begin with. Also, beware of the pits in the olives as it might be unexpected. I have to say that the warm pita bread was exceptional with the lamb and refreshing veggies. My friends got the gyros wrap and gave me some to try but I preferred eating the salad as it wasn't as messy. It gave me the same anxiety as if I was eating a burger loaded with fillings that would fall out at any minute.
