Went in for sushi and saw how affordable the noodles were. I had to try. I try the half soba noodles and it was bomb. Really nice elegant and refreshing on a cold night. I wish I knew about Yo Yo's before the pandemic, even though my office is a few blocks away. If it wasn't for the bit of recent media coverage that mentioned their financial struggles during the pandemic and possible closure, I would have never known this place existed since I normally would not head towards their direction for lunch. The beef curry ($13) and chicken curry ($12) are really well portioned and is very filling. For the chicken curry, it includes two huge pieces of chicken legs. They put two hard boiled eggs as well as a small potato and veggies. I would definitely recommend both. The udon was just alright, but it is hearty and goes nicely with the cool days we have in San Francisco. The folks that run this place seem to be super nice and always makes a greeting to the customers that walk in. As others have mentioned cash only, although they will accept Venmo as well. I first visited Yo Yo's in 2007 as a bike messenger. They offered absolutely DELICIOUS, healthy food for an affordable price. I haven't worked in SF for years, but I try to visit them when I can. Yo Yo's is an SF treasure. I am so happy to find that they are still in business. I sincerely hope they survive the financial problems covid has caused for restaurants. The best udon I've ever had! For $5.50 you can get a large container of udon with all the fix ins (seaweed, tempura batter pieces, fish cake, and bean curd). The broth is sooo flavorful and the bean curd is amazing. I can literally finish the entire container soup and all. If you're ever in the embarcadero area you should definitely give this place a try. A small hole in the wall place run by a very nice couple. Almost missed this place as I was trying to find it as they didn't have a sign on their windows with their name on it. It took 5 min to walk here from my office. I was in the store, waited in line, ordered my food, got my food and was out of the store in even less time than it took me to walk there! Very impressed with the fast service!! I ordered a large udon with everything (tofu, seaweed, tempura bits, and a slice of fishcake). The broth was hot and tasted good, but salty. By the end of my meal, I had to drink a cup of water. Udon was cooked perfectly. When my order was ready, the man at the register asked if I would like chili powder and I said yes. So I added the desired amount chili to the container. I expected to put the cap on the container of udon myself, but he did it for me and then bagged my meal and handed it to me! Was very surprised as I am used to places having me bag my own food at these grab-and-go type of places. The prices were very inexpensive, especially for being located in the financial district. This place is a three minute walk from work and although they only take cash, they have the best prices in town. I normally only get the half order of Chicken Teriyaki with white rice thats $4.75. Brown rice is $2 extra. The half order even comes with a mini side salad. The meat is tender and seasoned well. The food is made with love, you get to support a small business and it doesn't break the bank. Be sure to arrive early as the lines get long. It's basically reheated noodles, soup, seaweed, tofu skin and tenkasu, which little bits of fried tempura batter. It's okay, not worth going out of your way kind of a lunch take-out place. I wish they add some protein and veggies to balance out all the starch and salt. However, if you work in the then this might be a great spot for you rather than spending $16 on a salad. The noodles turned out to be pretty good despite their rock bottom price and the broth was not overly salty. The rolls were passable. Overall, this was not a bad meal. The sushi was all in the fridge but I don't think there is any raw fish. I decided to get a half teriyaki chicken, expecting only a couple bites. I was so surprised to get a large takeout box with four pieces of chicken, a ton of rice and even salad and orange slice! For only $4.50!!!
