Yoonyson is located in the Windward Shopping Center in Kaneohe. Located in the same wing and between Foodland and Starbucks with ample free parking for all patrons. Yoony's, as us Kaneohe peeps call it, was a favorite go to spot to get fast, yummy and huge portions of korean food. My all time fave... is their garlic potato salad. Yup, a side dish, not any meats. Although, they used to make a good spicy pork. More to that later. Just like your typical Yummys or Tastys, you get a selection of banchan (sides) to choose from. An array of colorful veggies, egg omelette, shoyu potato, chapjae (noodles) and of course, the garlic potato salad. Regular plates come with 2 scoops rice and 4 sides and mini plates come with 1 scoop rice and 2 sides. What I like to do is skip the rice and have an additional side to choose from! Ok, so getting to my 3 star review when everything above is great stuff... sadly, in the last year or two, we've noticed that their food portions have drastically changed. What used to be a place where we would have enough to eat for 2 whole meals has now turned into sadly a vegetable plate. Remember the spicy pork plate I mentioned? Well, they now only give one piece of meat. Now, if this piece of meat was a nice slab, like as steak I would understand. But it's just a normal, thin slice of pork which about half of the portion is fat. So inedible, unless you like that. See picture attached to see. When we first noticed this, I thought it was a fluke. But unfortunately, it seems to be the new portion there for pork. Which is just sad and unacceptable if you're going to pay about $12. Another thing I noticed... during this pandemic, the DOH has issued a few changes to keep not only customers safe, but workers as well. Although they require entering patrons to wear a mask, not all of the workers do so. The nice gentlemen in the front was wearing one, but the cooks in the back were not. The food handlers I could see from the tiny window that 2 of them had masks below their chin and were not wearing gloves. It's sad to say but me and my family will probably not come here anymore as we've only been let down with their quantity and quality while prices only go up. read more

The prices here are really reasonable, with most being about $10 for a regular size plate with generous portions - enough for at least two meals! You can add mandoo for 59 or 69 cents each, can't remember which. I've had the kalbi, chicken katsu, and meat Jun. All good. They have quite a variety of yummy banchan too - I like the potato salad, egg, cabbage, and Choy sum, and I haven't heard any complaints about the others. They don't have enough slots in their display because they have so many options! You can get the plate all vegetable, which gets you an extra banchan at no charge. Our go-to is the BBQ chicken + BBQ beef combo, which comes with on a bed of white rice, with your choice of four banchans. One of my sons LOVES the japchae, so I'll usually get that 2x. I absolutely love their sides. Hands down the best daikon and shoyu potatoes on island. They're always quick. They remembered me pretty quickly, makes me feel special lol. But service is great even when they're busy. Easy to make phone orders with. The Kalbi is always a favorite of mine. Their family packs are amazing. Includes a bit of everything and you can get extra vegetables if you don't get rice. They've been a lifesaver since the pandemic began, staying open, maintaining safety for their customers. I went in once and they were handling a rude customer and they were so nice despite his nasty attitude. Definitely highly recommend them! read more

In brief: Decent Korean cuisine in good portions, but you can find better not far away. We came about an hour before closing and service was pleasant, but slow... We had the spicy chicken dinner and a bbq chicken-bbq beef combo dinner. The chicken was fried wings -- red, but NOT spicy. They were very well-fried, but there were only like 5 of them -- not much for a hungry person. The combo dinner was more plentiful in terms of portion, and the taste was pleasant, if not memorable. The banchan was decent, and there was plenty of it. My wife decided against having the rice (they only have white) and that opened up the option for a fifth banchan selection. For our sides, we had: kim chee (cucumber and cabbage varieties) seaweed choi sum bean sprouts cabbage Surprisingly, there was no Korean bbq sauce in the restaurant -- only some sort of tabasco-ish/Louisiana hot sauce-ish sauce. Not the right flavor. :-( Parking is free in the parking lot (shared with other businesses at the Windward City Shopping Center). This place is cash only, so come ready. Bottom line: I'd go back, but we prefer the spot at the Windward Mall and would typically choose to head there if time permits. Roughly the same price point, but a few better choices, IMO (e.g. brown rice, spicy pork). read more

Something happened today at Yoonyson and I hope it's a fluke. I called in an order shortly before 7pm. They were out of almost ALL their banchan. No japchae, no bean spouts, no choy sum, no zucchini, no cabbage. I settled for broccoli (which they confirmed over the phone they had). I arrived to find out that they didn't have broccoli either. Honestly, had I known that, I would have cancelled my order. But because the food was already made, I paid for it (gotta support local!) and got sides I don't like and didn't eat. I got 2 measly pieces of spicy pork for a $16 regular plate. Complete rip off! On top of that, the pork tasted funny (kinda sour) and I couldn't finish it. If I have food poisoning tomorrow, I'll know why. BTW...they also got the banchan order for my other plate wrong. I frequent this location and they're consistently good. So strange! With that said, the sides at Yoonyson are always fresh, perfectly executed, and quite abundant. I usually skip the rice with my Fish Jun and get five choices, of which the Kombu, Tofu, and Garlic Potato Salad are my absolute favorites. Sometimes, if I'm in a hurry, or have had a particularly gluttonous weekend, I skip the meat completely, and just get the vegetable plate. The styrofoam plates for dine-in is the only thing I dislike about Yoonyson. I will never understand that. read more

Food is great, even coming here since I was super little. However , the quantity of food changed dramatically. Used to have plates overflowing full to the max and today was disappointing. I asked for egg as one of my sides and they come in these sliced rolled pieces. Just a disclaimer: This place would be given 2.5 stars if we could vote that on Yelp. They aren't bad enough to be a 2 but I don't think they deserve a 3 yet. This is a pretty decent korean restaurant. It's in a convenient location for us so we usually phone in an order for take out. There's usually a 5-10 minute wait for walk-in orders and the restaurant is pretty small. There's only 6 tables for dine-in customers but these are usually occupied by people waiting for their food to go. The restaurant isn't necessarily dirty but it could use a little renovation.. Not to mention it was full of smoke today when we walked in. I usually order either the meat jun or the chicken katsu which are alright. My only complaint is that the meat jun is pretty oily and the chicken katsu tends to have parts that are cartilage or fat. I ordered a bi bim kooksoo and a combination fish jun and pork plate which took 45 minutes to make. It appeared that the workers in the back kept forgetting the bi bim kook soo as the lady in the front repeatedly asked for it. What made this all worse was it appeared that the worker who finally ended up making the kook soo was using her bare hands to mix the noodles. I really need to think of I'll ever return. Update. The vegetables and side choices are very good and they give a good size portion which I love, but lately the Meat Jun is always cold or stale, even my Bar-b-q Chicken is cold and I always get the bone part with little meat on it.
