This isn't a Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme (not that I have ANY problem with either of them)...this is on a whole other level! Your Mom's Donuts delivers and just opened their storefront a couple weeks back. I stopped in yesterday and they were just about out of everything but we managed to try the french toast with peach jam and the lemon curd with blackberry compote and the vanilla glaze. They were AMAZING!!! So fresh (even though it was the end of the day), soft, great flavor, solid quality. They are not "cakey" in terms of texture...more so light and fluffy. They use local ingredients and they switch up the flavors daily. They have flavors with coconut, bacon, banana, chocolate, etc. So good. They also serve coffee and have a few tables in case you choose to dine-in. We were told that 4 donuts is $14 but 6 donuts is $15. So, you do the math. 1/2 a dozen is the way to go and don't act like you can't figure out what to do with that many donuts. Call me and I will help you out if needed. Love that they are on Monroe Road---we need more things on the East Side/Matthews. They are open daily from 7am-3pm except on Monday's. However I just didn't , local ingredients, small family business, hard working people, new babies etc. First problem frying the donuts in bacon fat, half the people I know do not eat Pork, for health, religious, ethical, advertising Leaf Lard is fine but explain it's pork fat. We love Your Mom's Donuts! First, I love donuts regardless, but this is my favorite place in Charlotte. I love they use local ingredients and it's a farm to table donut. No weird chemicals, food coloring, preservatives, or things you cannot pronounce in the donuts or icing. They are a thicker, more dense and chewy donut not a cake donut, but I much prefer their consistency to that of Duck Donuts. It's a local woman (single mom of three children) who owns the shop, so you are supporting local, not a large chain. They are priced a littler higher than some donut places, BUT the donuts are larger, the ingredients better, and she raised the prices of her donuts .25 cents each to allow her to pay all her employees $15.00 and a livable wage. Everyone is always friendly and the donuts always delicious. We bought 175 donuts for wedding favors over a year ago and everyone loved them. Many said they saved them for the next morning and they were still delicious. Do arrive early if you want the flavors of your choosing (and the freshest donuts) as many flavors (or all) run out by midday and they close when they sell out. We arrived shortly after Mom's opened on a Saturday. They were out of most donut styles and did not have any coffee. We waited for 'fresh' donuts which were somehow cold!?! They weren't brewing coffee, apparently only one carafe per store! On to the donuts.. the regular glazed are unexceptionable, need the toppings for flavor/sweetness. Also, the price is a little crazy, $3.25 or $3.75 per donut!! The staff was friendly, maybe they were having a really bad morning. We took a trip out early on a Sunday to check out the doughnut hype....eeeeeeehhhhhh.... I know a lot of people who love this place, so we had to try it. We tried a half dozen ($15) and tried six different kinds. I would say the Nutella one was my favorite, but the grease taste over-powered every flavor. I read another review that said the same. The Mrs. and I decided to stop in at this new Donut shop this morning. Your Mom's Donuts is in the old Carbones Pizza and Wings Tavern location on Monroe Rd. The first thing you notice when you enter the shop is how large the place is then you see the large chalkboard behind the counter. Once inside we met the co-owners Benjamin and Courtney. Benjamin greeted us and told us about their flavors of the week (all of which are posted on their website). I get the feeling Benjamin likes to talk. I mean that in a good way, honestly. Both were very engaging and seemed incredibly nice. The business started as a donut delivery service and opened their first storefront early this Summer. Enough about the owners, you are here for a donut review right? Well, the donuts are delicious, which may be an understatement, but it is the plain truth. They offer six different flavors which change weekly. We tried four of the six varieties. They were all quite good. I won't review the flavors because they will change weekly. The donuts are made from a brioche dough which is quite rich and melts in your mouth. Start with one at a time they will fill you up quickly. All of the donuts are made from mostly local products (flour, eggs, fruits, etc.) The coffee is also quite good and from a local Charlotte roaster. We had the medium roast that he ground and brewed for us while we waited. The roast was quite pleasant. Not burnt like so many other coffee houses. I admire their commitment to local merchants, growers, and suppliers. They have a delicious product that fills the gourmet donut niche in Charlotte/Matthews. On the way home from our long road trip, the husband decided to stop here on father's day and grab himself a donut. When we arrived around 9:00am on a Monday, we had to wait in line for an hour before getting to the register. When we got to the register, over half of the donut inventory was gone and we had to wait another 10 minutes for the additional donuts to be made. In my opinion, I was not a fan of the donut taste and the taste was not that of your average donut. Although I was not a fan of the donut, I can appreciate this start up shop working hard to create a thriving business and the service was very friendly. The facility was also clean. I've been on the hunt for a good local donut place. After asking some friends, I got the suggestion to go to Your Mom's Donuts. So I went over on a Saturday and grabbed some donuts to go. Here are the pros about Your Mom's Donuts: - They switch out available flavors (six) weekly. - They're HUGE! It's almost more like a breakfast pastry than what most people are used to in a donut. - They do use local / state ingredients where possible (coffee is from a local Charlotte company, flour is from China Grove (I believe)). - Frankly, they're quite delicious. Even though there are a multitude of positives, there is one great big drawback: it's freaking expensive!! It's hard for me to justify spending $3 or $3.50 per donut (or $15 for a half-dozen or $24 for a dozen). For comparision, a local donut place in Bozeman, MT sells donuts at $0.75 per donut. I suppose if I approach it more as a full-blown breakfast pastry than as a donut, the price difference is a little easier to bear. But not by much. read more

We are huge fans of Your Moms Doughnuts. We saw the name, had to stop and were hooked right away!! I am a huge fan of "hole in The walls" and boy is this a great one. Everything is local ingredients, wonderful people.. The lady serving here always had a baby strapped to her back learning the business.. And what a lucky baby.. These doughnuts are amazing! Let me give you an idea, these are more like little cakes. Each one is so dense and heavy we always get a mixed batch and cut them up in 6 and try them all. I really wanted to give 5 stars because I think these are excellent doughnuts but there are a couple minor things that come to mind. These doughnuts are big...extremely big. My kids have a hard time finishing one. I think they should offer some basic flavors in small sizes so it doesn't feel like a waste to order a treat for your kids and have half end up in the trash...(Nut free please) The second thing I've noticed is when you find a flavor with a buttercream filling...there's something added with the cream (or the buttercream is not made right) and it throws off the texture. Imagine a buttercream that has seperated....and the ganache is sweet but almost too bitter and throws off the yummy flavor of the doughnut itself. This is a really nice doughnut coffee and pastry shop. I used to come to the place one it was a bar to watch football games.The bar now sounds as the counter and where you order. They usually have about 6 or seven types of doughnuts. I usually go with the vanilla glaze or the cinnamon. The donuts are really fresh and tasty. Your Mom's Donuts is a good 30 minute drive from my house... and this past weekend nothing was going to stop me from making the trek. I had a solid game plan... wake up early, take care of the dogs and high tail it down to Matthews. I wanted to be sure my trip wouldn't be in vein, so I pre-ordered just to be sure they didn't sell out. The smell of that shop is what I hope heaven smells like. I watched the worker as she carefully selected the six donuts I ordered off of the trays. I also ordered a coffee, dark roast. My plan was to bring these delicious looking donuts to my friend's lake house. I had no idea how far away my friend's lake house was... but it is far. and the shop smell follows you into your car. It took EVERYTHING in me not to eat a donut on my hour drive. I sipped my dark roast hoping that would help, but it only begged for the pairing of a donut. I made it to my friend's house (with all donuts in tact) and three of us looked at the six GIANT donuts I picked up. I cut them in half, then in thirds to share so each of us could try a sixth of each flavor. Six sixths equals 1 donut. It is a challenge to each a whole donut, but it doesn't matter because you eat the whole donut. The flavors are great, and it is a fluffy, moist donut. Glazed Chocolate Glazed peanut butter and salted caramel glazed Orange and chocolate something with pistachios lemon strawberry glazed cinnamon deliciousness with cream cheese frosting Those are the flavors we sampled and I was not disappointed with a single one. We were lucky to try this place at a slower time. It meant we got to meet the owner and talk to him for a few minutes. First thing I thought was, this guy is extremely nice and really loves making donuts. The second thing I thought was, who the heck was this guy's mother! My mom definitely never made donuts like this! These donuts are massive and need to be attacked like a Roman general! Divide and conquer! A knife is definitely your best friend when going after these huge monsters! We were brave and ordered a half-dozen just to try out the different flavors. I've been looking forward to trying this place for a while now and sadly have to say I was underwhelmed. I had a filled donut and got a donut pudding (like bread pudding made with donuts). The donut was filled so full that with my first bit it all shot out the other side. Messy! The donut itself didn't have much flavor and seemed to just depend on sugar for taste. If that is how your mom makes donuts then maybe they will be able to hold a candle to the delicious donuts at Your Mom's donuts. The selection of delightful donuts changes. We sampled four of Your Mom's offerings and were impressed by all. The Buttermilk frosting with raspberry drizzle was the hands down winner of the morning.
