Giant chalk boards behind the counter mean it's probably a locally sourced, low impact, sustainable production, good for the planet and its inhabitants sort of place which is probably a good thing but I didn't have a whole lot of time for chit chattery because of my appointments so I just got grapefruit-n-japs, cinnamon sugar and cream cheese, and a refill on my coffee. these are sandwich sized morsels served in a french fry boat for dine in or a plasto clam-shell thing to go. not a big fan of hot-citrus donuts but the cinnamonster was pretty excellent. This is my favorite place to get doughnuts in Charlotte (outside of Duck Donuts). They don't use preservatives or artificial colors, and they source from local farmers! You know they're fresh too, because depending on the weather (too moist and rainy), they're sometimes unable to make donuts and close shop for a day because the dough isn't acting right. THAT is quality right there. They're all about seasonal ingredients, so they make some of the best seasonal flavors! Oh my goodness. If you take a quick glance at my photos, you'll see there are quite a few sweet treats I indulge in. I'm a victim to my sweet tooth. I am very much a cake and cupcake lover. Doughnuts are okay to me, after many years of eating Dunkin Donuts in NYC before heading to the subway- their selection of occasionally soft, typically hard and harder, I could never get enthused. They look good behind the counter, then you bite into them and it's like a rock. Yuck! I gave up. When my daughter became old enough to exercise her preference in what snacks she wanted, I began making mental notes of places around town for her to try. Your Moms Donuts was the fourth bakery I have been to on my donut quest. I walked in the shop as others were walking out with their boxes. There was less than an hour to closing, and I hoped there would be a good selection for me to present to her. I was relieved to see there was. The lady behind the counter apologized for enjoying a donut of her own off to the side, and I laughed and told her I don't blame her at all. I asked questions about what the frosting was, and she gave me a sample of the icing from one I seemed ambivalent about. I was sold! It was delicious. I bought half dozen and went home. My daughter got home from school and was happy to know there was doughnuts in the kitchen from a new place. She grabbed the vanilla frosted, paused and asked if I had taken my pictures yet. They are a local farm to table donut shop and there is nothing at all bad or disappointing about that. Yeah, their donuts are on the more pricey side but if you love these donuts then they are well worth it. The flavors are switched out weekly/daily and these donuts are the size of your head. Your Mom's Donuts uses leaf lard to fry their donuts.The donuts are tasty it does have a slightly off putting taste due to the leaf lard. I thought it was just me but I brought donuts to work and none of my coworkers enjoyed them. Ok so I am a fatty and love donuts. Before I moved to Charlotte I looked up some donut places and Your Mom's Donuts was on the top of my list. Within a week of me moving here I ordered a dozen online (which was nice and easy) and picked it up with excitement. When I got home I was still happy when I opened the box and saw how pretty the donuts were. But then we tried them and I hate to say it but we were disappointed. The dough was not a texture we liked and the flavors were super bland. For how they looked and what the flavors were supposed to be they were just boring and not flavorful. The dough to icing ratio was also way off. These are good sized donuts but they basically just had a swipe of icing on them so the majority of the donut was just bread/dough. I had the pleasure of visiting this little but big donut shop on a nice Saturday morning after a light jog. My running partner and I jumped in the car and bee lined it to Yo Mommas Donuts after hearing about these heavenly treats from another running friend. We live in The Fort Mill area so this was an almost 30 minute car ride but it was soooo worth it. We arrived at the right time. Short line inside but shortly after, a long line formed behind us. The no frills shop was humming with hungry kids filled with joy because fried dough dipped and slathered with chocolate and filled with warm gooeyness was on the approved breakfast menu. A lot of the reviews I read while waiting mentioned the prices being a little too high but once I saw the donut size I thought, SCORE! It's like getting two donuts in one so the prices was justified for me but when I took a fork full of a warm and fluffy chocolate ganache donut that I personally saw fried and dipped in milk chocolate I literally squealed with delight! I felt like I owed the creator of this masterfully created sugar dough treasure more money for allowing me to eat it. My first visit! Let me tell you ... the customer service is on point. Everyone was masked, they have a great setup during the pandemic to where you can order and receive at the front door. I asked about the donuts and she thoroughly explained. She didn't rush me at all. She talked to be about their best sellers. It would be extremely greedy for me to eat all four in one day.. so, im saving the left two for tomorrow. However, I could go back and sell my soul for that salted Carmel drip!!!!!! I'd love to give a more comprehensive review, I'm really not able to since in three out of four attempts, they've been closed early or simply closed. First visit was on a Tuesday and I found out they were closed. No biggie, although I found it odd to be closed Monday & Tuesday. Next visit, also found them to be closed. This was a Thursday and their hours state they are open until 5pm. The website does say (or until Sold Out) but I get there at 11:30 and they're already closed??? Sure enough a check on Facebook shows at 11:45 they say they're closing down shop. Third time I was going down Monroe Road and this time, not really making a special trip to try it after two disappointments, find them to be open and relatively stocked with product. My first two requests, a powered sugar and a caramel donut, were sold out. The menu is a chalkboard, so one would think that it would simple to just remove them. I did get a good Cardamom flavored donut. Very yeasty, very chewy. A large donut, the prices are a bit high but the quality and size is there. I enjoyed a nice can of Pure Intentions Cold Brew Nitro as well. Impressed with the somewhat redeeming third visit, me and my girlfriend were again in the Matthews area and wanted to grab a dozen to take back home on last Saturday. Drive up and still open, good sign! Walk in and the guy behind the counter says they have one sprinkle, a handful of caramel, and some lemon donuts and that's it. Less than a dozen in total and none of the flavors I wanted. This is once again around noon. I think a lot of places would be thrilled to sell out of their wares every single day, but this is just poor planning. I get that the price per donut for locally sourced ingredients and premium fillings must be much higher, but so is the margins. It's been awhile since I've last had these square donuts so I was excited for our reunion. I was a bit bummed to discover that they were a bit dry and way doughier than I remembered. My main gripe is that there is too little icing for these thick (thicc) donuts. I tried 6 flavors, my favorites being the cinnamon sugar with cream cheese and one of the seasonal ones - blueberry jam filled. The filling added some needed moisture and it was surprisingly some high quality blueberry compote. I also tried the raspberry glaze and white choc macadamia nut ones but I could barely tell what flavor they were because there wasn't enough glaze. The donuts are super heavy and therefore super filling. I'd recommend cutting smaller portions of each if you want to sample the most flavors. Service: 5/5! the people there are friendly and that's all you need really psa: don't leave donuts unattended in hot car for too long or the icing will melt off and form a soggy puddle. read more

Giant Donuts?!? Well, maybe not giant... but very large ones. These lovely folks have a pop up shop at the Davidson Farmers Market from time to time. The first time I tried... the rain cancelled them but I finally got to them a couple weekends later. For the most part, these donuts are amazing. Large, a little dense and flavored oh so well. The different flavors they have run from easy go-tos like Classic Glazed & Vanilla Bean to more bold ones like Gorgonzola Brown Butter Walnut with Honey Drizzle & Strawberry Maple Bacon. Vanilla Bean and Strawberry Maple Bacon being my favorite ones. The only thing that I don't enjoy about these is how greasy the toppings can. I am sure it has something to do with the process or recipe to ensure they taste amazing, but it is just a little turn off for me. Outside of that, I really have not complaints. This isn't the place I would drive 45 minutes to attend their physical location... but if I were in the area, I might make a point to stop by and test out new seasonal flavors. read more

I give them props for the different flavas! I really have no complaints. It's too bad they're so far out from where I live and their hours are a little janky (which I understand), but this place may have to be an every once in a while joint. Sorry Krispy Kreme, but step aside for this locally owned donut shop that took my taste buds by storm!! The staff here is always friendly, and the donuts are the best I've ever had! The caramel and lemon-honey are always reliable hits, but the real gems are the rotating weekly flavors. Each week they have 4 new seasonal flavors that are always incredible. I rarely eat donuts. In fact, I really am not a fan at all as they typically make me feel sick. However, Your Mom's Donuts has changed that and I am shocked and thrilled at the same time. We visited YMD for the first time earlier this month and ordered a few of the regular flavors, including both milk and dark chocolate, along with the cinnamon and we all very quickly fell in love. The donuts were perfect in texture and absolutely delicious. The customer service was wonderful as well. Our youngest wanted a powdered donut initially and they didn't have any. However, the team member at the register was more than willing to whip one up for him real quick. We respectfully declined, as I didn't want her to do any extra work, but we appreciated her kindness and willingness to help. If a place sells out before noon, you know it's the real deal. Their hours are marked as 7AM to 1PM but they usually sell out around 11AM. It took me days to wake up early enough to get to your mom's but it was well worth it. I walked in right when it turned 11 and there were still about 1/2 of the flavors still there.My biggest regret: only ordering 1 donut. You need to get here super early in order to have your pick of the donut litter. I went a little after 7am on a Saturday morning and there was ALREADY a line. It's a bit of a wait, especially for folks with larger orders who are in line ahead of you. Each yeasty donut is picked up individually and placed in a box and there's only one lady at the front working (the one at the register). I ordered 2 dozen for a party (which is a bit steep at around $54 which is about $24 a dozen), but they were worth it (all my guests absolutely RAVED about how awesome the donuts were). I do, however, wish they attempted a cake-y textured donut. You might have to wait even longer for the flavors that are temporarily out, until the bakers bring out ones fresh from the oven. The flavors I ordered: Watermelon -- wasn't too much of a fan. The filling was similar to mushy crushed watermelon with some small, gummy gelatinous bits. The frosting had shaved lime (I think?) in it. Salted Caramel -- Didn't get to try, as my guests demolished them. Lemon Streusel with honey glaze -- BEST flavor ever. SOOOO delicious. Cinnamon Sugar -- the cream cheese glaze is literally the icing on the cake. Super popular and absolutely perfect with a warm cup of coffee). Blackberry with lemon glaze -- fruity, tasted like summah. Dirty Chai -- tasted like Christmas (my fave). The topping was roasted, crushed coffee beans. I can't get over how delicious these donuts are. They're big, fluffy, a little cake-y and oh so satisfying. I'm a donut LOVER so I'm always on the hunt to try something new. Be prepared for loooong lines and wait times. I appreciate that they want to make the donuts fresh and almost to order, but they haven't figured out how to scale their operation to how many customers are coming in. I preordered mine, so I figured they would be waiting in a box for me and I could just pick them up. My girlfriend is a cake donut traditionalist, but she made an exception for their chocolate covered ones and enjoyed several of them from the box we brought home. Been wanting to try this place for a while, today was my day. Walked in, couldn't find donuts displayed, but found then on a bakers rack behind the counter. No problem. Then I was shocked. $3.75 a donut! I've been around the world and never paid $3.75 a donut ever! I thought to myself I might as well try one to experience it, what I donut(pun) know was it was average at best. I felt cheated and ripped off. This place will never see a penny from me or my family and anyone who asks about a place to get donuts. Nice lady at the counter and part if a butcher shop(I fear their prices now). So if you want to feel special go here, interesting flavors of donuts to chose from, but make sure you take a home equity loan out before going. The place I visited was in Davidson, NC north of Charlotte, not the Matthews location, which I would think the prices/quality would be the same as they are shipped from Matthews to Davidson daily. The 1 star is for the price shock factor and an average at best donut. read more

I first found Your Mom's Donuts on Instagram, before they had a store front. I'm happy to see that they're doing well in their new spot. Their donuts are a little pricey, but I don't mind because, 1-they're delicious and 2-they're huge. They offer new flavors every week and locally source their ingredients. The dough is not super sweet and the toppings/flavors are awesome. I've never ordered their coffee, but I'm sure it's great, too. The inside of their shop is boring. There isn't a lot in the way of atmosphere. But really, who cares? THEY MAKE BANGIN' DONUTS! :) My favorite from today's visit was the chocolate ganache pastry cream filled one. If you're going to drop by, a word of caution, go early. They sell out quickly. They get four instead of five stars for that reason. It's hard to spontaneously stop by, because they've likely already sold out. Happy eating. read more
