Very popular spot for takeout BBQ meats and you can usually see a line up to pick up a whole duck or chicken on the big Chinese holidays. This is my go to spot to buy a whole chicken for those celebratory meals. This is also one of my preferred place to buy BBQ pork (char siu) as the chef lets you choose the cut. I love their 半肥瘦叉燒！They also get good reviews on their BBQ duck, soy sauce chicken and roast pork belly. They added a section for sit down meals and ambiance is a bit dated. I find their service quite friendly and decent though it's usually just 1 server so best to lower expectations for table service or work with the server by being an efficient diner like ask for tea or napkins when server brings your foods or takes your order. As this spot is located inside the strip mall with a free parking lot, this spot makes for a convenient lunch spot and a quick stop for buying to go orders. I mostly only get their lunch box with the signature 2 kinds of BBQ meats on rice to go rather than dine in. The set meal comes with a choice for drink or soup. Tho I have never tried other items on lunch menu, I see plenty of customers ordering them. Nice old school Chinese bbq restaurant tucked away in a plaza on E49 Ave with ample parking. Mainly a takeout place but there a few tables for sit down. Bbq pork was sold out at 5 pm. Tried the free range soy sauce chicken, scallop eggplant pot, fish congee and yin yang fried rice. Dishes have good flavour and tasty with rice but heavy on the salt. Congee and fried rice similarly on the salty side. One server working the entire restaurant so service was a little slower. Menu had good selection. Some set combos available. No seafood tank available for fresh seafood. On the pricey side for this type of restaurant and location. This restaurant has delicious meats. It's well seasoned and not too dry. The ambiance is enjoyable. The pace of each dish was served quicker than expected. The portions were decent sized. Decent Cantonese style BBQ place in what I call the Michael Buble strip mall, next to the supermarket. They filmed a music video here. They have a party in the parking lot. Parking is available in said parking lot, though it can get full. The inside looks a bit dated (2000s), but it's no big deal. Staff were friendly and helpful. I had the 2 meat (roast pork and BBQ pork) set meal on rice. Nice comfort food. Slightly pricier than the competition (Roast Goose King, Cantonese BBQ etc.), but the quality is decent. The combo came with a bowl of lotus root soup. Old school goodness. Wouldn't mind coming back again, though the other places mentioned have a similar product for a few bucks less. read more

This is what they do: They will take the fresh duck (this one was not fresh) Cut it behind a wall you can't see through, then they take really really old parts that are left over from days ago and sub them in. When most of the immigrants came in the late 80's and 90's they were mainly from Hong Kong, as time passes the demographic changes to more and more Mainland Chinese, thus the change of "flavour " to cater to a more spicy and greasy style of cooking. Here at Yu Ki you still get the BBQ Roast Duck, Crispy Skin Roasted Pork and Soya Chicken etc. Most items are very authentic and delicious, at times I say would be better then the ones you get in HK now. They also have very good kitchen with most of the dishes done in a very Cantonese way which is with good Wok Hay. So if you feel you want to taste the Vancouver Chinese food from the past come here!! Came here after the line a BBW Cafe was too long and no I probably wouldn't come again but I also made some poor choices. I went with the lunch combo of noodle, meat, topping and drink with daily side dish. First off, I got their soy sauce chicken and it was the leg, which is clearly the cheapest part and looking at the menu, I overpaid for this combo. The chicken is quite fatty and definitely not the best I've had. Next, their noodle soup base is extremely extremely salty and I assume, teeming with MSG. The wontons (topping) were plump but stuffed full of very fatty pork and not something I would want again. I had a few friends order the BBQ duck and this looked really good so if I were to return, that would be my 1st choice. It had sweet and salty flavour which I like. There was no dipping sauce included which I didn't like. I'm guessing that's the way it is? There was crispy pork belly BBQ which looked even better. Yu Ki BBQ Kitchen is a small restaurant with a take out section on the side. We came here around 12:45 PM and there were only a few 2-seaters left. We had no problem getting a table because there were only two of us. It is your typical Chinese restaurant so we didn't expect much service. I ordered the 2 BBQ cuts on rice, with BBQ pork (char siu) and soy sauce chicken ($10.95). The combo came with either soup (no msg, as stated on the menu) or a hot drink. My rice came very fast and it looked good. It came with a side of chinese cabbages. I actually had a high expectation of this place because they are known for their BBQ items. The BBQ pork looked fresh but I thought it was too lean. As a result, the texture was a little dry. I was disappointed in the soy sauce chicken. The chicken itself was flavourless with a faint taste of soy sauce. I don't know if it was because the knife they used to cut the chicken was dull but I had a lot of tiny shattered bones. I didn't notice they were mixed into the rice until I felt something hard in my mouth. Thus, it was very inconvenient having to spit out these out. Typical Chinese restaurant service, only there to take your order, put the food on your table, take them away when you are done, and then give you the bill. I was a little appalled at how dirty the ground was underneath our table. There were pieces of meat and rice lying everywhere. It was definitely not a good feeling when you find yourself stepping on them. When a waitress was cleaning the table beside us, a chopstick fell on my foot, and I was just disgusted. This was my first time ordering from here, I was craving some HK bbq so I decided to go in. I ordered the roast pork on rice but I think they misunderstood and gave me roast pork and char siu, normally that wouldn't be an issue because I love both, however, the char siu was really really dry. There was no sauce, the meat was over cooked and let's just say it takes a bit of effort to chew. The skin on the roast pork was pretty good as it was nice and crispy but still then it was a hit and miss on each piece. Well we didn't expect too much from this place and we got exactly that. The crispy roast pork was ok however it was barely room temperature and my rice/veg was even colder. My wife had 2 BBQ combo and ended up depositing half of the 'meat' on the side plate as it was just too fatty. My wife likes fatty pork so for her to discard that it had to have been nasty. The main problem is that the 'server' began sweeping (in our direction) when we sat down and even swept under our table without the courtesy of even saying 'excuse me'. It's nice they clean but I can see the dust that was being kicked up in the sunbeam coming though the window so I can only imagine how much settled on our food. When she brought our utensils her hands were far too close to the business end of the chop sticks for our liking so my wife cleaned them in one of the cups of tea, which again wasn't overly hot. I really dislike drinking tea from a tumbler as well, give me a proper tea cup and save that glass for my (likely) unfiltered tap water. Won't be back here again. read more

I've heard rave reviews about the quality of their BBQ meats before so I had high hopes for this place. I ordered the Roast Pork with Siu Choy (kind of like cabbage) on rice (8.95). Although the skin was crispy, I found that most of the pork pieces were SUPER fatty and there was very little of any actual meat. The sauce itself was quite syrupy and mainly tasted of salt. Overall, despite it being filling, it was a bit skimpy on the toppings. Do not come here, we came here on two different occasions and saw each of the butchers that came out of the curtained kitchen not wash their hands properly with soap!!!! Sure there's a sink out front with a soap dispenser that you can clearly see, but they just do a quick rinse!! With COVID lingering around, at least wash your hands properly in front of your customers if you are cutting cooked meats and putting them in to-go boxes. Don't let their pre-cautions fool you i.e.) hand sanitizers out front, plexiglass, masks, etc.. when they don't even practice this themselves!! Who knows if they were preparing raw meats or dirty produce in the back? Old habits don't die when it comes to hygiene I guess. We had to ask them to wash their hands again with soap and they seem friggn annoyed! Why not get those disposable plastic gloves like they have at some sandwich stores and dispose of them if they can't wash their hands properly? At least give the customers some peace of mind. I cringe at the thought of their dirty hands cutting the cooked BBQ meats. Also, they sell old meats and do the bait and switch technique. Eating the BBQ meats is like chewing the bottom of a shoe, tough and just uneatable, what a waste of money. I'm Chinese myself, so they can't fool me with their terrible quality. There are soo many more BBQ's joints in this city, don't waste your hard-earned money here! The advantage here is that they are literally the only Chinese restaurant around with BBQ meats. This little spot in a rather off the beaten path shopping centre has excellent BBQ duck and BBQ pork. And it'll be nice to be able to recommend a Chinese BBQ joint in Vancouver for softcore HK BBQ 'enthusiasts' that think HK BBQ Master in Richmond is "too far". I looked to the left. I didn't see my mother, so I declined the offer. The roast pork was pretty good - nice crispy skin, good flavour and a good mix of fat and lean. I wasn't so impressed with the BBQ duck - it was a wee dry for me. Then again, I expect BBQ duck to so fatty that you should be wiping it off your chin. I didn't see anyone else in the restaurant or come in for takeout - so I suspect the slow turnover may have had something to do it. I would bet it best to hit Yu Kee for lunch. It took a long time for the crispy chicken wings to come out - but it was worth the wait - piping hot and juicy. I'm probably being a bit generous to Yu Kee with the 4-star rating, but the chicken wings won me over and I probably came during the wrong time of day - so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. And it's probably one of the better Chinese BBQ joints in Vancouver - especially since it's not hardcore specialized as HK BBQ Master. Looks like I missed the FTR.. Bummers... Anyways, as said this place used to just be one of those Asian BBQ places where you take out. But since they expanded the establishment, it is now a sit down resturant. It was actually clean and up to par. I was surprised knowing it is a Chinese owned establishment and it was neat. The colour and the decor is very typical, except they have some booth seats which were VERY comfortable looking. I saw them dark purple booth chairs and it looks lovely. But, it really clashes with the table and the other chairs they have. Typical white office lighting, and the sun set really sets right into the place. I do enjoy that. The waitresses were not as attentive as I thought, but they appeared when we needed them. The food was quite small portioned even ordered from the regular menu. I got the Stir Fried Crystal Noodle with Pork Toro and String Beans. It was not that bad, and it was up to my standards in taste. The crystal noodles are a special type of new noodle created recently, I will talk about that more later in a noodle shop in Vancouver (maybe...). The pork was stewed very well, but they really drenched it into the sauce, so I had to order a regular size of plain congee. Yes I am a congee lover...*cough cough* I was satisfied, but the price was a tad on the expensive side when asking for such a mediocre dish and small portioned. It deserves an A-okay. Formerly just a take-out BBQ shop, Yu Kee has expanded into a full sit-down restaurant (but still retains the take-out side). I was surprised walking into the restaurant because it's quite modern and clean inside, which is not what I expected from looking at the storefront. I ordered one of the lunch specials (offered from 11 am to 2 pm; served with the soup of the day or coffee/tea), braised beef brisket on rice. My parents ordered won ton rice noodles with beef brisket and lo mein with tendon. We also ordered a plate of char siu to share. The char siu was very tender and flavourful, not dry and tough. The broth in the soup noodles was tasty, and the won ton were much larger than lots of other won ton places we have been to. My mom wished that there was more shrimp in the won ton, as she found the ones here to be mostly made up of pork. My beef brisket was a little bland, but the meat was soft and not dry. The portions are quite small, but the food is reasonably priced. The service was good as well: no surly waitresses who slam the food down on the closet corner of the table (as we have seen on many occasions in won ton joints like this). I will most likely be back again as the food is pretty decent and it's close to home, which makes this place really convenient. read more

My girlfriend picked up some take-out on the way home today. I had the BBQ Duck and she had the BBQ Pork. Her pork was okay but not as good as the pork at HK BBQ Master. The Bok Choy and rice were fine. I did not enjoy the duck at all however. The skin was like a stubbly leg without much more flavor and it was full of sharp bones. If I could give zero stars I would. This restaurant rips you off and steals from you and is fraud. On September 29th 2021 I have came in to buy some BBQ pork. I have accidentally paid with the wrong account so I pressed the option VOID on the transaction. The void receipt for the $38.16 was printed out. I then have processed my new payment of $38.16 on to the correct account. I checked both my bank accounts and saw the $38.16 charged on to both accounts on the same day. I have notified the restaurant and they told me it's not true it was voided. I have gone to my bank couple days later once I had time and they have confirmed that the payment was NOT voided on the restaurant's end and they need to refund me the money and printed out records for me to show the restaurant. On the same day I have went back to the restaurant and spoke to another person there and showed her my receipt and the printed out transactions from the bank. Her response to that was that her machine shows that the transaction was voided and she can't refund me although the transaction was charged when they say it's voided. The woman at the restaurant told me she will contact their payment machine company and call me back by the following week which she has not. It's been close to 10 days and still no one is talking to me. So I have ended up paying a total of $76.32 for $38.16 worth of food. Very terrible and shady customer service and they rip you off and steal from you. Do not I repeat do not give this place any business at all! They are disgusting thieves! Never will go back again and I have advised everyone I know to stop going there as well. read more

This little Chinese BBQ shop makes Great BBQ food ! It is a gem in the neighborhood. Their specialty is their BBQ food items (the one hanged in the display). I liked BBQ duck and pork ribs! They tasted good. About a year ago, they had a renovation, and expanded to the lot next door. Now, they have a restaurant. Often, I ordered takeaway. I recently ordered three takeaway BBQs with rice. They were BBQ duck, chicken and pork cha siu. About $8 each, and the portion is big enough for everyone. It has got the meat, vegetables and rice. I think this is a pretty good deal. My experience is that in weekends the food will be gone by 8pm, or earlier. So you may want to call them ahead of time to reserve your food. Been here yesterday for a late lunch around 3pm. The interior was bigger than i thought it would be. I thought that the restaurants was very small and stucked together with the bbq booth. Like i said before, the interior was bigger than i thought. It was roomy and very bright. So you can roll around on the floor without being stepped on. But remember that you are near the bbq booth and they have knives in hands. Just saying, you know. I ordered #20 rice plate with half bbq duck and crispy skin pork for $7. As for a drink, i ordered hk style ice coffee for $2. The plate was quite huge. It also came with some cabbages and soy sauce. The bbq duck and crispy pork was flavorful. It would be nice if they pour more sauce on top if the meat. Other than that,everything was fine. The ice coffe was just how i like it. Reminded me of chinatown in Bangkok. (Yes, sadly enough I never been to Hk). But i had tried a lot of Hk home cooked meal! For those of you who like strong coffee like starbucks, i dont think you will like it. This is my first time here and with three friends who have. My friends and I agreed to try the Peking Duck, an item you don't see much in Chinatown. I think it was like ten minutes when the duck arrived. The usual plate of crepes or pancakes and a place of crisp skin (with thin veneer of duck meat). And oh, of course, the scallion. This is a solid Chinese BBQ joint! Their BBQ pork chop is so juicy, their roasted pork is juicy and their soy sauce chicken is perfect! I come here from time to time for quick weekend lunches and they have very decent meals for about 10 bucks... your typical Chinese cafe style lunch that comes with a drink. Went to try this place based on people saying that BBQ is good but bad service I am used to bad service at Chinese places but the roast pork and duck I had was terrible. I ordered the combo with rice they gave me 4 pieces of duck but they gave me the butt of the duck as one piece no flavour in the duck and the roast portly skin was crispy but the meat had no flavour . Terrible place that is overpriced. Rather go to Kent's Kitchen and get half duck for $11 read more

Ordered sushi for pick up on New Year's Eve, was told to pick it up in 1.45hrs, came into the restaurant with 8-12 people packed in the restaurant waiting for their orders. Asked if my order was ready and they told me to come back in 30 to 45 mins. I came back within the allotted time frame and they told me they had closes and my order wasn't available. I received a basic apology implying that it was my fault that I didn't know when they closed. You would think that taking a persons phone number was for more than just tracking, that they would call you asking, if you were still coming to get your food. I called them multiple times trying to check the status of my order, but they wouldn't pick up, even after many attempts. It was a very disappointing experience, they never made any attempt to make it up. I would suggest dropping your expectations when dealing with this business when it comes to their customer service. read more

Got the bbq pork and duck on rice. The pork was ok, the duck was sub standard. Pretty much got 8 pieces of skin with bones, little meat. Looks like they try to placate their customers by shovelling a huge portion of rice with it. read more
