    lao grilled steak plate
    Courtney W.

I came here on a Sunday around 12:30 and I just first want to say that this place is delicious!! It's located in a community kitchen so there's actually two restaurants located here (Laotian and Soul!). There's inside seating but there's not a lot of tables, especially if you have a large group. Luckily my group of 10 came before the lunch crowd so we were able to snag some tables. Both restaurants located in this shop seem to be super popular! The service was amazing and our food came out pretty quickly. The portions are pretty generous and the grilled steak is absolutely amazing. Their Lao crack sauce (the orange one) is a little spicy but so tasty. The other sauce was more on the bitter side so I wasn't a huge fan of it. Their sticky rice came in a huge portion, however, it's more crispy than sticky. 10/10 would recommend!!

Checked in last night here and the front counter guy was amazingly nice! Everything we ordered was tasty too. He told us they were only going to be there for 2 more days and they'll be closing so I'm glad we made it there! It's a little hard to find as they are no signs but "lokals only" on the outside as they share the space with 3 other restaurants. Parked on the street but I saw there was a parking lot next to the building.

First time trying Lao food! The curry soup is my favorite and then the crispy rice wraps, lastly the papaya salad. The medium wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be. The service here was very nice and I came a little before closing! The crispy pork skin that came with the papaya salad was really good. Im sure the papaya salad is good but it's not something I eat frequently. There's little fish balls in the soup and I loved how it came with the rice cake. Good spot!

Omg delicious food!!!! We got the crispy rice wraps, Lao style green salad, mango and coconut sticky rice and khao soi. Flavorful, high quality ingredients, and plates are shareable size with 3-4 people if you get a few plates. I'm excited to come back.

Khao niew mak muwang (sticky rice and mango) --- a must!!!

First experience with laotion food & was not disappointed. Ordered the pieng xeen to share with my boyfriend & it was PACKED with flavor. The portions were very small to share between two people so I recommend getting an appetizer. The mango sticky rice is a must! My boyfriend said it tasted too sweet for his liking but it didn't taste sweet enough.

If you haven't tried lao food yet, this is your sign to go to this restaurant! Located in the Lokels Only community kitchen, this is a fast casual restaurant that serves delicious authentic lao food. The staff is so helpful and willing to explain any dish to you if you are new to lao food. The kitchen has a real neighborhood feel where everyone is friendly. It is small but I didn't have trouble finding a table. There is something for everyone on the menu. I ordered the beef plate which came with jeow (dipping sauce), grilled beef, and papaya salad. My friend ordered the nam khao. The plates are huge portions and are definitely shareable. I had enough leftover from my plate to eat the next day. We also got the longan tea to share, which was huge. Everything was so delicious! It was my friend's first time trying lao food and we're already talking about the next time we want to come back! Thank you for the great food and service!

First experience with Laotian food and it certainly was a good experience. This place is located inside Lokels Only, a community kitchen. You know...one of those shared space type things, so when you drive by to look for it, don't expect a "Yum Salut" sign but a Lokels signage instead. We ordered two items: Pieng Xeen - grilled beef w/papaya salad and side of sticky rice. I especially loved the sauces. The sauce the papaya salad was dressed in was rated medium heat level and it had a nice kick to it. The grilled beef had 2 sauces that accompany it, one was a straightforward but pleasant sweet sour type sauce. The other was much more complex and pungent. I absolutely want to believe my palate is complex and so I'd have to go with the darker one. I have great appreciation for sauces, I was slightly sipping it. Khao Soi - fermented soybean w chicken and pork soup with large flat noodles and ground pork I presume. This was actually the name of the dish that led me to Yum Salut, I was originally looking for the Thai curry version but my interested peeked with the colors and displays from other Yelpers photos. Both items were rich in flavor and I would order them again. And I would also want to explore then menu some more on my next visit. Customer Service was great, Daniel was very informative about the menu as we were first timers and he came by to check on us. Looking forward to trying other things on the menu next time!

That's all the noodles I got and I got so much liquid...

I usually love this place but recently it hasn't been so good. I got kao poon and the noodles were barely there. I'll show this in the pic. The service was nice. But i don't know. I'm in between not coming back or giving it another chance. And the rice is hard. I also asked for mild papaya but got like hot.

I came here with my family while visiting LA area. It was a recommendation from a friend and so glad we gave it a shot. Very authentic LAO food and it was delicious. Enjoyed the Crispy rice, Spicy Lao Sausage, and the Sweet Sticky rice with Mango. He also had this side chili paste that was YUM and I sopped it up with my sticky rice. SO GOOD! Chef Tip touched our table. He was super nice and was very accommodating. He shares this pop up kitchen with a soulfood place but hope he gets his own space soon. If you're looking for a new spot to check out and you're in the area, check this place out!

I've never had tastier Lao Cuisine than this, and I've eaten at the Golden Triangle. This place doesn't hold back with traditional Laos immigrant flavor. It's strong, spicy, and incredibly tasty. All in all, it was an amazing experience. I git to chop it up with the owner and chefs, per suggestion from Chef Soulos Kitchen, and I was not disappointed. If you want to eat authentic Laos flavors, at the only legit Laos food in LA, come here.

This was truly one of the best meals I've had in LA (and maybe ever!?) Every single component of the meal was truly unique and made with so much intention and love + at a very affordable price (it was soooo much food!)...! I could honestly go on and on about how special this meal was! It was truly moving!!! I want everyone to know about it, but not to get too busy we can't get a seat! Lol We heard that they are moving, but we hope they find another location soon, because this will be a staple destination for us to eat at! They were also so generous and gave us a free mango sticky rice at the end that was so delicious. We also bought all of their homemade chili sauce at the end to gift to friends and have at our house! Lol What we are The chicken plate w/ sausage The mango sticky rice The fish and pork salad rolls The green Thai tea

Are the portions here large or small? The reviews are confusing lol

I think that's difficult to answer because it depends how big or small your appetite is. To me, I'd say the portions are just right.

Are there any vegetarian items on the menu, please?

    What are the hours?

I'm not sure of their official hours but i noticed it said 9pm close on Yelp but when i got there i found out they close at 7pm on Saturday and barely made it before they closed. Luckily they let us order at 6:50 and take our time eating. P.S.… Read more

Now for the food, I cannot come to Nok's without getting their sausage and I suggest you do the same! The bbq plate is nice to try everything but to be honest, whenever I get that, I always regret not getting just the sausage. But you be the judge and see what you prefer. I'm big on their larb and crispy rice salads as well, top tier if you want something a little lighter. The food, vibes, and overall experience is great. Laotian food is and will forever be my food bias and yet i find it so hard to find somewhere, ANYWHERE, that hits the spot the way that I want it to. Growing up, I was blessed enough to have authentic homemade Laotian food through a friend and her family- that has set the tone and the bar extremely high when it comes to my flavor expectations. With Nok's high ratings I was hoping to find my go-to whenever I am in town. Lunch: *TUM MAK HOUNG (Papaya Salad)- requested for SPICY & added raw shrimp [+ additional $5] *KUA MEE SEN YAI w/ Chicken [stir fry rice stick noodle] *BBQ MIX COMBO- comes with sticky rice, pork sausage, a wagyu skewer, and a chicken thigh skewer *Wagyu Skewer [because one wasn't enough so we ordered an additional stick] I made the request to have the papaya salad made with extra padaek [pungent, funky, fermented fish sauce]. I let the staff member know I enjoyed my papaya extra fishy and extra spicy. This dish was what I was looking forward to the most and it unfortunately didn't meet my standards. The plate was missing the extra dark liquid puddle where the shredded papaya swims in. Most importantly, the funky, fishy level was missing-even with my request for extra padaek. Though, the spice level was hot and the raw added shrimp was enjoyed. The kua mee sen yai was good- noodles where fresh and the flavoring was delicious. The bbq mix combo was kind of pricy given the amount of food actually given. The chicken portion is what carries the most volume and we could have done without that protein. The pork sausage and wagyu skewer were great. The jeo som sauce was delicious- so good i easily ate this with sticky rice on its own. 3.5 stars specifically for the food but i'll bump the rating to a 4 since the staff is so kind. I might come back but my meal will most likely not include papaya salad. Unfortunate because this is what I forever crave...

We shared a variety of dishes: -Papaya Salad: A Lao style papaya salad. Super flavorful, crisp, and fresh. Honestly great just eating it on its own. I also liked the raw crab in it which was nice to suck on. -Lao Sausage: Meaty and good. I liked how the flavor wasn't too strong and offputting. The sauce it came with was good, but a bit hard to dip in. This paired well with the sticky rice. -Crispy Fried Rice (Nam Kao Tod): Super unique dish! I liked folding the crispy rice with sour pork bits into the lettuce wraps which was fresh, crispy, and texture heaven. While the food was solid, I did think the prices were on the higher side for the area. It might be because of the ingredients if I had to take a guess. The service here was pretty good.
