I don't understand the good reviews of this place. I am all for supporting a small business but they have a lot of improvements to make. It's right across the entrance from LAX-C and they have a small menu with coconut cakes, mango sticky rice, and bbq. There's a guy running a grill and a toaster oven towards the front, two ladies in the back making the coconut cakes, and a lady behind a window in the middle of it all taking payment. The space looks like a hot mess, is not clean, but against my better judgment, I still wanted to try it based on the reviews. There was a small line of 2 people in front of me and while waiting, a lady comes up and orders from the grill guy, and he takes her order and screams it to the 3 ladies in the back, disregarding the people in line. Guess he's got to get all the money he can... her order gets to be first. That's fine I'm in no hurry, I get to the front and order 3 chicken skewers, 1 sausage, and corn coconut cakes. The grill guy takes the sausage out of the toaster oven and a pre wrapped chicken skewer foil package. We are told that it's a 15 minute wait for the corn coconut cakes. Ok no problem, fresh is the way to go. The skewers were extremely salty, as if it has been marinating since 2021, and the flavor was so off putting, like rancid white pepper - not edible. The sausage, which came from the package from the market, was ok, dried out and halfway to jerky, but still ok. The coconut cakes were the worse I've ever had, shockingly bad. They looked like they would have a crispy exterior but it was all mush, no contrasting textures, and bland. Like they poured a can of coconut and only added corn to it. It was so weird, it barely held its shape when picked up. The corn was the best thing in it and was only because it helped the mushy texture. Another tossed item. Do yourself a favor and go try real coconut cakes elsewhere - if you want a street food vibe that's not disgustingly dirty, go to the temple. read more

We came on a Sunday, it is somewhat busy. The location has a few small Thai stands. We ordered the mango sticky rice coconut cakes and green onion coconut cakes. They are $10 ( each has around 8 pieces ). The coconut cakes are sweet , creamy and flavorful, they made it right in front of you so they come out warm. The mango is sweet and not sour so we are satisfied. Remember to bring cash cause they accept cash & zelle. After they take your order, they give you a ticket and they make your food. You just need to bring that ticket to get your food. The wait is around 25 minutes for the food, and there are 3 long tables next to the stand so you can eat there. Pork skewer, $3- Just like the chicken, you get plenty of juicy and tender pork for $3. Papaya salad, $12- A fair portion that is good for one person. But is a little spicy (but is fine for spicy eaters like my husband). Please note that this salad is made with seafood so it is not vegan or vegetarian friendly. I bought some of the plain coconut cakes balls which were still piping hot from the special grill it's cooked on. They also come with corn which I was also considering. This has been in my bookmarks for awhile and I'm glad I was able to make a stop here finally. This place is CASH ONLY and only open on the weekends. It is located on the outskirts of Chinatown where the Thai "Costco" is at. This place is a stall across the way from the market and it was quite busy. I ordered pork and chicken skewers and of course, the coconut cakes! They quoted me about 35 minutes so I walked around the market in the meantime. We got the goods and went straight to the state park just a block away. I will say that the ordering process and picking up process was very chaotic and confusing. They're taking orders down on a legal pad and giving you homemade numbers on a piece of paper. I've also seen them give away other people's orders for people who are impatient and who keep pestering them about the status of their order. Just don't be in a rush when you stop by here. The skewers were priced at $2.50 each and they are ample pieces of meat. I would recommend the chicken over the pork only because I don't like chewy fat. The pork had a lot of fat which is why I preferred the chicken. The flavor was good and it never tasted dry. They also offer sticky rice $3 to complement the skewers. The coconut cakes $6 were good but it was really soggy by the time I tasted them. It was sweet, coconut(ty), and had a hint of saltiness. I had a good amount leftover for the next day and I put those babies in the air fryer and it was AMAZING. So either eat them right away or put them in the air fryer when you get home. It's a game changer. Overall, this was a good cheap spot to get bbq skewers and those amazing coconut cake desserts. I've never had anything like them or seen them anywhere else. If you have them fresh, the coconut can burn the roof of your mouth. I also love the papaya salad. I love how crisp and fresh the ingredients are and whatever juices used to give the flavor a kickstart. It's cash only and they serve amazing Thai bbq, fried coconut cakes, fried fish balls, sticky rice, and more. It's just a little stand in the parking lot but as soon as you walk by you can smell the sausages and satay. There was a bit of a wait, but it's made fresh. The first thing I got? The sausages, it was ready made so I was just handed that right away. The cakes took a little bit of time and the salad took the longest. I went to go pick up the salad and the grill master waved me over. He gave me a fresh pack of the sausages and told me to bring him the previous pack he gave me. I don't know what the previous packet would have tasted like but those fresh little sausages, warm, juicy. If nothing else you could go for those. BUT The coconut cakes were also warm and fresh and sweet, not too heavy. It was like coconut's light sweetness but without the texture. I haven't mentioned the papaya salad yet, but I will say this: I had another papaya salad the day before but this one was probably the best papaya salad I've had, and that's including in Bangkok. It was fresh, with a little bit of tang and spice and with the crunchiness of the peanuts thrown in. Oh, I also forgot to mention the skewers. I feel like a lot has been said about it already. I got the chicken, which was delicious-with a little bit of sweetness. We really like their BBQ sausage and chickens... so juicy, salty and sweet at the same time. We also order spicy soups and poppers from the next stall(no name) while waiting for our food. We went on a Saturday (in November, which is during covid), and we had to wait one hour for our order because there were so many orders ahead of us! We paid $6 for an order of 20 cakes and every bite was just absolutely scrumptious and I wish we ordered more. There's also BBQ which smelled amazing but because we already ate lunch, we decided to not get it - next time! I will come back next time for meal + dessert. At $2.50 a piece or $9 for 4, you get to pick between pork or chicken. $2 for sausages. How did the meat taste? Like perfection...seriously this is what all of the skewer meat appetizers at Thai restaurants across the US should taste like. The pork was mind bogglingly soft. The chicken is delicious and thick cut. Both are grilled with a sauce that is perfectly sweet and salty. And when you eat it right away, you get the sensation of eating it hot (temperature), where the outside is almost-crispy--an undeniable characteristic of eating a freshly bbq'd piece of meat off the grill. As for the sausage, I'd skip it and save the $2. The sausage was oddly sour and the tough casing made it very hard to eat, especially if you're eating it hot off the grill. Even harder if you're doing all this while driving, haha. I'm definitely returning. Went around later afternoon and the skewers sold out, but they also have coconut water and other packaged cookies.
