Each time I'm in this neighborhood I always tell myself I'll branch out to try something beyond the white egg tart, but they're so nice I always fail Tiny spot, lines can get long so be ready to order (cash is still easiest), everything in the display cases looks & smells delicious. Pop in, pick a few items - you can't go wrong!

I followed the hype and the long lines and they did not disappoint!!! Yummy Bakery and Cafe is located in SF Chinatown offa Jackson + Kearny. Widely known for their pineapple buns and egg tarts, this bakery offers that and so much more. Do be advised to come readily prepared for the ordering part. While the lines may look endless, they move quick thanks to the staff and considerate patrons. There is no seating available so buy your goods and go. Extra points because Yummy Bakery offers egg tarts made of eggs whites. While I honestly wasn't too interested in this version, I took the opportunity to give it a taste test because it was available. This item tastes more milky leaving you with a slight void of the creamy custard-y aspect you normally would find with the traditional egg tart made of whole eggs. Great option if you were looking for something slightly healthier but it wasn't for me. Ter's Must Have Items: * BAKED CHAR SIU BAO * PINEAPPLE BUN * TRADITIONAL EGG TART * PAPER CUP CAKE 4/5 stars. My purchases always fresh and tasty. This bakery is definitely worth visiting while you are visiting Chinatown.

I think this is not the same business anymore. The famous egg white tart has a thick pie crust instead of the traditional flaky crust! Egg whites are rubbery! I also got the raisin and walnut bread. There were hardly any raisins and walnuts!! Very disappointed and won't go back!!

I was in search for some bunnies in San Francisco during Easter. When I say bunnies I mean getting more than one type of buns. This search has lead me to a place where you will find all types of yummy buns. Inside you will find buns like the cream bun, custard bun, green tea red bean bun, pineapple bun , and cheese mushrooms buns which they get flakey like some in SF. People line up to taste and grab these buns in San Francisco along with others buns and some not too sweet treats. It's located in San Francisco Chinatown and it's called Yummy Bakery & Cafe. On a Spring stroll in San Francisco's Chinatown on Jackson street and I was looking for some Yummy buns. Inside there are pastries which are both on the sweet and savory side. Although Yummy Bakery& Cafe is known for it's egg tarts and moon cake I wanted to try there different types of buns. I got the garlic buns and it was savory and tasty. If you are a garlic lover these buns are for made for you. The buns had a garlicky taste and were soft. They also had a blueberry cheese bun which was a bit cheesy and flakey like some in SF. They also have Japanese cheesecake available. If you want to order a dozen of buns also known as bunnies ask for the purple box. Went on a Spring stroll on Easter weekend in the city and the day was "sunny" to a place which has tasty crusty and flakey pastries that after over two days after baked can get "crumby" in SF and they had lots of buns here during the Easter weekend and I ain't talking about the "Easter bunny" this bakery got delicious baked goods all four season and it's called " Yummy" Inside you find baked bunnies and other dessert goods that's "Chinese" and some that are done Hong Kong style which is "Cantonese" and they even got dessert like cheesecake that's "Japanese "made with real "cheese"

Great service and very delicious bbq pork buns. I showed up and they had just sold out. The clerk asked me how many I wanted and was willing to bake me a fresh batch of 12. I waited and she baked me a dozen fresh just before there closing time. Definitely will be returning here. Its a small bakery in China Town SF surrounded by lots of local businesses and restaurants.

I ordered 86 white egg tarts for a company event and they were on time for the pick up. They tasted really good even though it was a large batch order. Still crispy on the crust and warm in the middle. It's a small shop and usually only 1 staff to help but worth the wait!

    Kevin C.

Super friendly staff here and seems like a lot of locals come here daily too. Prices are very fair here and better than most places for your classic chinese baked goods. I liked their pineapple bbq pork bun and custard bun. It was fresh and soft with a good amount of filling inside them. It's a small bakery, so it can feel a little cramped inside when groups come in at the same time. Definitely a good bakery to stop in if you're in Chinatown and don't want to venture to stockton street bakeries where it can get even more hectic during the day.

This is one of my favorite bakeries in Chinatown. Yummy, true to the store's name, is very yummy. Good buns and tarts. Tonight's haul was sponge cake $2.75, BBQ pork bun $2.75 and a pineapple BBQ bun $3. There were only a few people ahead of me.

I got two egg tarts (both yellow), pork floss bread, and a blueberry cheese bread (not pictured). I think I would've liked a bit of sweetness in the blueberry cheese bread while the pork floss was a bit too sweet for my taste. I think the egg tarts were ok (I'm used to them being somewhat sweet) but their eggy flavored was just a little overpowering. Honey was a good substitute to add sweetness. The service was fast and ambiance of the place was a small mom and pop grab n go.

This is a bakery that my colleagues and I often frequent for a snack break. I have to say it is a hit or miss depending on what pastry you get. My favorites would be the Pineapple Bun and Corn & Cheese Bun. Corn & Cheese must be one of the more popular buns because in the afternoon, they're all sold out. Some of the misses include the Chestnut Bun (which has no filling and no distinctive taste to the bread) and Sesame Bun (which does have black sesame filling, just not one of my favorites). This place accepts cash, Venmo, and card (with an additional fee for CC). The typically price per bun is $2.50-$4. They also sell sponge cakes, hot drinks, and moon cakes. Like many bakeries in Chinatown, it's a quick service place with no seating. The line sometimes goes out the door because it's a small location.

We went to watch our nephews performance at the Chinese theatre across the street and while waiting outside we spotted this place because of the long line. We got to use so we crossed the street going towards the Bakery. We decided to wait in line even when it's long since we're too early for the show anyway. We got their hot dog, which was fresh from the oven. We got the paper cake, one yolk, moon, cake, preserve egg cake I forgot the green sponge cake what is called. There was only one person selling so it really took a while. We were standing in line for like half an hour or more I think. Everything is good. It's just the place is really small and it's only a takeout place. There's nowhere to sit and eat inside. They also serve coffee and tea. I definitely recommend this, but you have to be patient to wait in line. The price is reasonable and the service is actually fast but the parking as you know is really challenging in Chinatown so you would have to park inside the parking garage where you have to pay.

    egg white tart
    Alexis M.

Found out this place had egg white tarts, which I had never tried before, so I was intrigued. We had to wait around 10-15 minutes for a fresh batch to finish baking. The shop itself is pretty small and more of a grab and go spot with no seating available. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed because the tart tasted pretty similar to a regular egg tart, and I wasn't a fan of the tart shell.

    Egg white Tarts
    haobin g.

Yummy Bakery and Cafe is one of the best Asian Bakery shop in San Francisco. Their egg white tarts are so yummy, the crust was buttery and flaky with a nice golden edge, and the filling had that smooth silky egg-white custard texture that's lightly sweet. It held together well and felt fresh, especially when eaten right away. If you are into Hong Kong-Style or Cantonese-Style Bakery treats, this place won't disappoint. Highly recommended!

TLDR: To no one's surprise at all, Butter & Crumble is still…read moremy favorite bakery in the world. They still have the crispiest, most innovative pastries every month, and September 2026's menu blew me away. I know the line can be long, but they are working as fast as they possibly can and there's so much love in the pastries that the wait is worth it. ------ FOOD (SEPT 2026): 1. EGGPLANT DANISH (5/5) One of the must unique pastries I've ever had. I would say this is a must try for this month, especially if you like Middle Eastern flavors. The eggplant was super tender and very easy to bite through. But what I appreciated the most was the layers of complexity with this danish -- zhug below the marinated eggplant, and not only whipped goat cheese and harissa on top, but also sprinkled pomegranate seeds on top for added acidity and brightness. 2. APPLE VANILLA BEAN CRUFFIN (5/5) Apple pie in a crispy croissant muffin! Fresh apple pie filling is extremely generous, and most importantly, the vanilla bean diplomat cream on top was actually a nice balance to the sweetness of the apple compote. A great fall pastry for this month. 3. CORN PROSCIUTTO CROISSANT (5/5) A super familiar and comforting flavor. The corn and basil bechamel sauce was addictive and abundant. It will never cease to amaze me how their pastries can be full of fillings like this and not get soggy. The "prosciutto" in this had the thickness and texture of deli ham vs. prosciutto (I actually prefer ham to prosciutto), so it was extremely tender and easy to take bites. 4. BROWN BUTTER CORNMEAL TWICE BAKED (4.5/5) I love their twice baked croissants so much because they have the perfect flakey texture. The chocolate filling brought this entire croissant together. I thought the cornmeal frangipane was super creative and interesting, but at the end of the day this wasn't a 5/5 for me simply because I ultimately decided that I would have preferred a smoother texture to a grittier cornmeal texture. But that is simply personal preference, and the flavor was still phenomenal. 5. TAHINI COFFEE PAIN AU CHOCOLAT (4.5/5) Great pain au chocolat. Full of both tahini and chocolate filling, though didn't get as much of the coffee flavor. Extremely flakey pastry. I've had other tahini chocolate croissants so this isn't the most unique flavor combination, but this was one of my favorite renditions of this combo. 6. RICE ROLL SPECIAL BUN (4.5/5) A divisive one! Butter & Crumble is exception for the quality of its crispy, flakey pastry, and this item has very little of that. It's extremely soft and possibly soggy, but not in an unpleasant way at all. In fact, I actually loved how soft this item was because the pastry didn't outshine the quality and flavors of all the other ingredients in this. The spicy chili oil on top was chef's kiss on top of everything. I've never had a pastry like this before, and I don't think I ever will again. Bravo. ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * Same space as always, and the line was only 1 hour last week, which was totally doable * They're really emphasizing staying quiet to respect the people in the neighborhood, so don't bring any loud friends here! ------ SERVICE: * The ladies here were lovely as always! One of them was the outdoor coordinator who visited everyone in line with the latest menu and information on ordering so you could plan ahead * Was very fast getting a box full of pastries, but if you order a drink, expect to wait a little longer inside since those are made to order

If you're craving savory pastries, the bbq pork pineapple bun is also good. The croissant egg tarts are fantastic. I was fortunate to land one of the limited seats inside the bakery, although, there was also plenty of bench space in the parklet outside. The pizza crust was thin and crispy - with just the right amount of chew - and tasted slightly of sourdough. Topping-wise, the mushrooms were abundant but not overpowering; however, I wish there had been other vegetables to balance out the flavor. Paying less than $5 for a generously-sized slice (adorned with a mini slice on top) felt like a bargain, especially in SF.
