This is a little different than Snappy Dragon, more traditional American Chinese Food. You get everything that Snappy Dragon does not serve. Egg Foo Young, and all your favorite dishes. The prices are great, a little cheaper than Snappy, and when I don't feel like the dishes that Snappy serves, then I go here and I was happy to see it reviewed. Great Chinese food restaurant. Located right next to the Metropolitan Market so it's perfect if you decided to take-out. Shop at the Market while you wait your food and pick up your food after you are done with shopping. The menu is huge to choose from, including vegetarian option. Their price is set a little bit high. ranging from $10-14 average. But I guess they give you a good amount of food to eat so if you order two, that's plenty for two people. If you are eating-in, the place is small so the seating is limited and the place gets crowded w people during dinner time. Also, they don't really have any parking space. so you have to find a street parking or (park at Metropolitan Market, park at your own risk..) Seattle has no shortage of Chinese restaurants, but you will be hard pressed to remember many by name let alone be in a hurry to return I got a place for Mongolian Chicken, another for Mongolian Beef and another for Almond Chicken. You end up going from place to place to piece together a meal, because no one spot appears to be able to do an entire menu well. This was my 1st trip to Yummy Café and I have to say, after eating here, it's obvious why the Asian people bow to each other. This was so remarkably amazing that I am going to return as soon as possible. The hot and sour soup was fragrant and flavorful. The Potstickers were thick, rich and hearty and the 5 star Mongolian beef had a zesty kick that let you know these folks aren't changing their recipe for the westernized world. The spot isn't big enough for you to hold an event and parking is pretty much a nightmare, but I promise you this, you will not regret putting something Yummy in your tummy! Looks can be deceiving, I've driven by this place for years never bothering to try it due to the small size. Finally stopped in for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised to find a cute cafe serving some very decent Chinese food. From the looks of things this place has a nice regular cliental, many people seemed to know each other. Service was good and the food satisfying. We live 3 blocks away from them and have been ordering frequently since they opened. First off I want to say that the family that owns Yummy are lovely people and We're glad to have them in our community. Don't know how many times we've had their food, well over a hundred. The large majority of the time we've been very satisfied. There has been the occasional let down, an ingredient not as fresh as it should be, something forgotten in a take out order. a mistake in preparation. But we wouldn't keep coming back if these weren't rare occurrences. They are a very small operation with a tiny kitchen and sometimes get swamped. They do fried rice very well, especially like their rice with salt cod and (usually very fresh) shrimp. Their roasted chicken is usually spot on, golden brown skin with moist meat. I find the almond chicken and honey walnut prawns to be highly addictive. The deep fried bean curd is another stand out. The standards are well represented and done properly. Another thing I appreciate is that if you want it extra spicy they are willing to do it toe curling hot. I'm tired of Seattle wimpy restaurants that act like they fear a lawsuit if they make a dish really hot. I wouldn't call myself a chili head but I want my Szechuan to make me sweat. I love having a place to get fried rice that is somewhat healthy; they will use brown rice when asked. They also have steamed veggies and chicken without high sodium, excess fats or MSG. read more

Some of these reviews are astounding to me. As someone who has moved all over the US, I can say that this place most closely matches (and surpasses many of) the Chinese restaurants I miss so much on the east coast. I've found that typically Chinese restaurants on the east coast are better (especially in NYC and the northeast US), and Thai food is better in the Pac NW. I am a diehard egg foo young fan, and this place has the best that I've had out of all the places I've been to in the midwest and the Pac NW by a landslide; and it even rivals many of my favorite places back east! I just had the Singapore Noodles entree tonight, and it was so good that I was tempted to go back and get another order of it! The Salt & Pepper Tofu appetizer & the vegetable fried rice is also pretty incredible (according to my fiance). The restaurant is clean, and the staff/owners are very nice. Great, friendly atmosphere, with plenty of parking. Don't listen to the bad reviews, I urge you to try it for yourself. This place is a gem! I get take out from this place 1-2 times each week. If I moved back to Bellevue, I would still make the drive to come back here often. read more

I'm a big fan of this place. While it's small and I generally wait a little longer than I normally do at other places, the food is excellent. I've tried at least 5 entrees from the menu and liked all of them which is rare for me. If you look below the counter at the register they have some award for a higher standard of healthiness to the food. I think it has something to do with the salt or fat content because it doesn't taste as salty or greasy as most Chinese cuisine. If you like lemongrass chicken, this place has the best I've ever had. read more

Under-spiced and over-priced. Somewhat of a disappointment. The place makes no pretense about serving anything other than americanized chinese food, and there's a time and a place for that, but this isn't the place. I had their hot and sour soup, which left a lot to be desired in both the hot and the sour departments. Next was their General Tso's chicken. While fried nice and crispy, the sauce was nowhere near spicy enough. For the $17 that the meal cost, I could have done much better. read more

I lived within a block of this restaurant for over six months before I got around to trying their food. The night we finally visited we were in a hurry to get downtown for a comedy show so we kind of rushed through dinner. We ordered the four person dinner for $39.95 which is a pretty decent price. I went with three other guy friends and they couldn't finish all the food. We had lots of tea, soup, egg rolls, and four dishes. We were rushed so I'm not sure I remember all the dishes, but I know we had beef with broccoli and that was super yummy. Not the best Chinese food I've ever had, but certainly good enough to go back and try more since it's so close! read more

This place is so overpriced for the quality. I ordered springs rolls, kung pao shrimp, and rice. The spring rolls were pretty good. Crunchy with a decent flavor. However, the sweet and sour tasted like it came out of some box. The kung pao shrimp was very bland. It had no flavor. Also, for nearly $14, I think I should get more than 5 shrimp. Sad to say it, but I've had fast food Chinese that was better. Service was good. The family that runs the restaurant was accommodating and friendly. This is the closest restaurant to our house, and we've been here many times. Large servings for a good price, one of the few decently priced restaurants left in the neighborhood. Very friendly staff - they always chat a bit with us as regulars. There's always a steady steam of people coming in to pick up orders. Service is prompt. I've had fancier Chinese food elsewhere, but the food here is homey and good. My kids both love it. An easy choice when we just don't want to cook and clean! And they have awesome high chairs for babies - with a tray built in. read more

We were regulars here when we lived down the street but our visits have become less frequent now that we live in the oh-so far away neighborhood of Greenlake. It's unfortunate :( Our faves have generally been the general tso's chicken, the won-ton noodle soup, moo shu chicken/pork, salt and pepper squid and lastly, hot and soup soup - and tended not to deviate much. Admittedly, the food can be pricey and some things I've ordered when I've deviated from my regulars have been less that average BUT we keep coming anyway. One of the biggest reasons is that service is great! We love these folks! And fast delivery. read more

Yummy Cafe is one of very few restaurants within walking distance of my house, so I've eaten there a bunch of times. I have yet to be surprised by anything they've served me - it's been consistently good, and consistently what I've expected from the menu item. Never astonishingly delicious, never disappointing. Hits the spot when I'm hungry and want someone else to stir-fry something for me. The people are friendly and it's a great asset to the neighborhood. We just arrived to Seattle and stayed at a hotel near this restaurant! We decided to have it delivered to avoid some traffic. Ordered: Chicken Chow Mien (it was alright, but chicken was extremely chewy and had no flavor). Pork fried rice (the Pork was in long stringy pieces, and also was chewy with no flavor). Potstickers (looked really good, they are huge but once you bite into them the dough was soggy and we had no idea what was on the inside but it was not a normal potsticker). We asked for extra soy sauce, they gave us one small packet and then a bunch of balsamic vinegar? (Which is a little weird) The delivery man was frustrated that he was given an exact address instead of a hotel name, whereas the gal on the phone said they can ONLY accept exact addresses. He forgot to bring a square reader or something to accept card payment (which we verified on the phone beforehand) and then called the restaurant over his phone, told them my card information, and ended by saying "and what amount of tip are you giving?" It's with a smirk and great hilarity I write this review as I just ordered delivery from here an hour ago. I didn't want to read any reviews before ordering because I wanted to make the judgment for myself. Hungry, tired and lazy from a 10 hour work day caused me to look up Chinese food near U village/Sand Point...after deciding on what to order, called, hung up, sat on couch, 20 mins later knock knock at my door. My husband and I were confused as I have ordered from other places in the past and it always takes 60 mins on a Friday night. Ordered fried rice, beef broccoli, wonton noodle soup, and potstickers, $35 or so. First the food was totally just made because it was nice and hot! Second the portions were HUGE! The competitor down the street charges a dollar more per dish and is only a quarter of the serving. Third and READ THIS CAREFULLY: NO MSG. All those reviewers complaining about blandness, etc, yes folks- it is the result of NO MSG and I love it. My whole life we have celebrated family functions, events, holidays, with Chinese food, seeing that we are Asian, and you would think I would've have gotten use to it. But I actually have had to stop going to family functions at certain restaurants due to falling so ill after eating excessive amounts of MSG. You know that shaky, excessive thirst, heart beating slightly fast, woozy feeling? MSG. But I do know a good population of folks out there who happen to eat Chinese food because they love MSG. This café was an incredible let down; if you want to be taken advantage of, then by all means go to this café. We ordered out (using online), and there was no prices listed online for us to monitor how much this dinner was going to cost. My wife then called and put through an order, which turned out to be 95.00. Seems like a lot, right? Yes, a lot of money, NOT a lot of food. We got a whopping five white take-out cartons of food, one of which was white rice (something we never ordered, but they charged us for), and the other four containers was half full of the actual product that we ordered, filled up the rest of the way with filler items (such as chopped up broccoli, chopped up white onions, etc.). Two of the items they got completely wrong, and when we called to tell them this, they refused to refund us for the items that we never ordered in the first place. Needless to say, we are never giving them our business again. read more

The order was delivered in under 20 min (i swear it was closer to 10 min) and when i realized that there wasn't any soy sauce despite my request for extra packets, the owner had the delivery guy back to our house in under 5 min to provide a plethora of soy sauce packets. My daughter saw this small place that seemed to be located off the beaten path. She suggested that we try it since it had to be good, because of its location and it was thriving. I am glad I listened. We have been going there for 2 1/2 years now for our Chinese food fix. We have tried many dishes as we like to eat leftovers. All meat in dishes is super tender! The owner's got to know us right away and know exactly how long it has been since our last visit to the restaurant. Also, I don't spend the next day drinking water because of over salted Chinese food! * Jasmine Tea: complimentary with meal of course. I don't usually like Jasmine tea, because it is too floral. Yet, I love their tea and could drink the whole pot by myself. * General Tso: not too hot and just the right amount of sweet * Almond Fried Chicken: tastes like the kind I used to have as a kid--owner says it is more traditional recipe * Chicken Chow Mein: best I have ever had * Beef and Asparagus in black bean: amazing! only available when asparagus is in season * Beef Curry: onions, green and red peppers add to the spicy curry that cleans your sinuses out. Make sure you get some plain rice to kill some of the heat! Note-- curry is not my most favorite food and I love this one! * Orange Chicken: not sickly sweet or sickly orange * Spring rolls: tasty and not overcooked inside that come with nice dipping sauce I am getting hungry! I've lived next to this place for two months and today was the first time I tried it. The exterior and the name don't exactly scream "try me". The owner/waitress was really nice. I had egg rolls, hot and sour soup, and beef with broccoli to go. It was all ready in under 10 minutes. When I got home I had to wait for another 10 minutes for it to cool down a little bit because everything was steaming hot (which is a good thing). The egg rolls were delicious, you get 3. The beef with broccoli was probably the worst I've ever had in my entire life, and I've had A LOT. I probably should have gone with the Szechuan beef. I haven't tried the soup so I'll update my review once I do. The prices are a little bit high for Chinese, but it's Seattle, so nothing new. read more

I'm a bit baffled as to why people like it as much as they do. It sort of has all of the bad attributes of Chinese restaurants while not really providing the main draw of Chinese joints the world over: cheap and delicious food. I would venture to say that the meat/starch ratio of the Beef with Broccoli were unbalanced at maybe 20/80 in favor of the veggies to the meat (tofu being included as part of the veggies). This was part of the "dinner for two". The egg drop soup was one of the worst I've ever had, we probably ate 1/3 of it (and this is coming from a guy that always finishes his food at whatever cost to his own future belly-aching self) and the egg rolls were terribly crunchy and not in that delicious fried kind of way. Maybe I'm crazy cause I'm Korean and not Chinese but man, wtf with not including any white rice. Who eats fried meats and all with no rice or noodles? That's nuts to me. Great prices for super fresh food. I had a southwestern wrap on a wheat tortilla that was delicious filled with tofu, avocado, cilantro and tomatoes. The atmosphere is simple, nothing fancy but they offer a healthy vibrant food selection. I would definitely go back! read more

I'll add this to the list of subpar Chinese restaurants in Seattle that I won't be going back to. I'll start with the positives. Delivery service was prompt, I could pay by credit card at my front door rather than give my card number over the phone, and none of the food was inedible. Now the negatives. All the dishes we ordered (potstickers, chicken fried rice, pork chow fun, kung pao chicken) were bland and forgettable. Most of the food looked pale and anemic. The fried rice in particular showed almost no signs of actually being fried, and the vegetables that came with it looked like what you'd get from a bag of Birds Eye frozen mixed vegetables. I've lived in NE Seattle for nearly a year, and I'm still trying to find a good Chinese restaurant. So far the current leader is the Panda Express in Northgate Mall, and that fact is very disappointing. read more
