We lived in this neighborhood for many years but the outside of this restaurant wasn't that appealing so didn't try. However, once we decide to stop by after grocery shopping at Metropolitan market and we are so glad we did! They have the BEST fried rice!!! Not too oily or salty and have lots of fresh vegetables. Yummy Cafe is a wonderful family owned affordable Chinese Restaurant that is always great to turn to when we have little time to prepare a meal. The owners are very friendly and always welcome their clients. We either eat at the restaurant and often order in when we have less time. When we order in, our food is often delivered within 20 minutes or less. My wife and I like everything we have ordered from their menu. Our favorite dishes are their Pot Stickers, Chicken Curry and Mongolian Beef. If you have not been here, we highly recommend you give it try. Had the chicken garlic and broccoli beef with brown rice. The item with the most flavor was the brown rice. I think they boiled all the ingredients together, and put a few drops brown food coloring in. I would give them 3 stars if the food was too salty! If you closed your eyes and took a bite, you can only identify the meat by the fact it was chewier than the veggies. They did deliver it pretty fast, but the food was pretty terrible. read more

The staff is warm and welcoming. Take-out was quick and they are very accommodating for food allergies. The prices are reasonable.The portions do appear to be on the smaller side which is great if you are trying to watch your intake but not-so-great if you are starving. Family owned and operated. Sweet little place with great food. The place is clean, friendly and we go often as its within walking distance. The food is consistently good, the people working there are charming. The Salt and Pepper tofu is a favorite and until I tried theirs, I hated tofu. The veggies are crisp and bright. We've been at least 8-9 times. Kids and I love the Won Ton Noodle Soup, orange chicken, and fried rice. The hong kong style chow mein and moo shoo are great. Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce is good too. It's Taiwanese style which is good because it's not so salty. We will be back again! read more

I had been craving potstickers for like a week so I decided to go for it. They were the worst potstickers I've ever had.. It's like they just put a sausage inside. The place is cute, but it was not as "tasty" as I had hoped, and it unfortunately did not live up to its name, or some of the Yelp pictures that attracted me to go there. Potstickers were big and very doughy, and even burnt during the pan frying stage. The filling was not too tasty either, so at $7.95, they were a big disappointment. The wonton noodle soup was brown in color which was odd and there wasn't a vegetable to be seen in the big bowl. Not even a small slice of green onion. Kung Pao chicken seemed to be made with decent quality ingredients, but there wasn't much flavor. The prawns in sweet chili sauce was the best dish and actually very tasty. However, the shrimp or "prawns" were too small, but fortunately battered very lightly which kept a good balance you do not see in many Chinese restaurants. Surprisingly, the complimentary Chinese black tea was too diluted and even a bit bitter. That doesn't seem like something that is easy to get wrong, but unfortunately they did. The atmosphere is kind of quaint and the service started well, but after our plates were cleared nobody bothered to wipe up the dirty sauce that dripped across the table and we were stuck with that for the rest of the experience. At almost $60 for dinner for 2 with tip, not sure I would be back for mostly mediocre food. I liked how they brought a separate dish for the fortunate cookies, compared to some places that place them on the dirty money trays with the check. Of course, it is always best when the fortune cookies are wrapped in plastic. That is the only time I will ever eat them, as who knows where they have been and how they have been handled before arriving. They had some promising signs, but overall it just wasn't a very good experience. read more

We just had dinner here and it was beyond awful. The wontons in the wonton soup had a very odd shape/texture/flavor. I actually had to spit out my bite of almond fried chicken - I have never come across a piece of chicken breast so oddly tough and hard and grizzled. The dish was also lacking the sort of crunch one would expect and instead had a weird paper thin light beige coating which wasn't crisp at all - just disgusting and inedible. The rest of our dishes weren't much better - very little flavor and very poor quality throughout. I wonder if the food is pulled out of a freezer and microwaved? I don't know how else meat could have the texture it did. Yuck. Even the dipping sauces were bad. What a disappointment! read more

This is the best takeout Chinese in the area. They deliver promptly, they have huge portions, and their food is always fresh, hot, and tasty. I order the Singapore-style noodles, General Tso's Chicken, the potstickers, and/or the spring rolls, all of which are delicious (order only 2 of the above if you have 2 people or less). In sum, this is one of the best Chinese takeout places I know, and certainly the best that delivers to the U District. read more

A hidden gem. Kind and fast service. Good for all visits of all types. The atmosphere is chill and it is nestled in a great locale, with ample parking space to the right of the restaurant and a grocery store adjacent perfect to send your teens off to after they finish eating first. If you're looking for "authentic" Chinese, this is definitely a step up from run-of-the-mill buffets. The vegetable and tofu dish I had was somewhat westernized, I can't say whether by design or environment. The upside to that is it's nice to have a brown rice option. Great little Chinese place. Nothing too fancy, but if you're looking for reasonably priced tasty Americanized Chinese food, this is the place to go. My wife and I ordered the dinner for two and we substituted the string bean chicken in. It's not on the menu, but we wanted a very flavorful chicken dish and they decided to make something off-menu for us. Sweet and sour soup was great, egg rolls were good, but the BBQ pork was very disappointing. That is the only reason they get 4/5 stars. It was basically little pieces of pork chop served with ketchup, mustard and sesame seeds. For entrees we got the string bean chicken and the orange beef. Both were delicious and very flavorful. And to top it off, even the fortune cookies tasted above average. We'll definitely be coming back here at least for take-out and delivery. read more

I took my parents here every time they come visit me in the neighborhood. Staff are friendly and plenty of good selection from the menu. They don't serve the very traditional Chinese dishes but the food are generally fresh and tasty. The place is pretty clean and like many other said, right next to the Metropolitan market so we could do some shopping after a big meal. This place doesn't use MSG. Maybe it should. We've eaten here twice now, hoping the first time was an off day. It wasn't. The only thing consistent about the food is that everything is equally bland and overcooked. First off, this is NOT a typical Americanized Chinese restaurant. Yes, they serve the egg roll with chicken fried rice and sweet n sour pork, etc. etc., and that is good for Americanized Chinese. But if you order that kind of stuff, you're TOTALLY missing out on real Chinese cuisine, and what's the point of eating at a Chinese restaurant without trying authentic Chinese cuisine? Yummy's is THE place to try some homestyle Cantonese cuisine in Seattle. (Being Cantonese, it was one of the first things that attracted me to this place - so much like the way my family and I cook at home.) That means light on the oil and lower on salt, while using simple recipes to bring out the flavor and freshness of the ingredients. It tastes HEALTHY because it IS healthy. No MSG either! People may say that it's "undersalted" or "bland", but if you're willing to open your palette and taste the ingredients and not just starch and soy sauce, then voila, you may be able to experience Chinese homestyle cooking. The place is clean and the staff is friendly and efficient. And oh yes, they even deliver to your door. Recommendations: 1) Don't just order off the lunch special if you want to test the restaurant's real strengths. 2) ASK for the daily specials! They're limited and not on the menu, so a) you know the ingredients have to be fresh, because it's changing daily; b) you know that there's got to be quality control involved, because usually specials run out, which means they only make so much of it; c) it's SPECIAL. Why would you not want to try something special? 3) For specific dishes, I recommend: - Special: Beef or Lamb stew with tendon (slow-cooked with star-anise, spices, in a warm gravy in a crock pot; not every day and limited amounts) - Special: Pea vine stir-fried with fresh garlic, lightly seasoned with salt (not every day, only when fresh/in season, and in limited amounts) - Special: Gai Lan vegetables stir-fried with meat or fresh garlic, your choice (not every day!) - Preserved Salted Fish with Chicken Fried Rice and eggs (not your simple chicken fried rice - bits of salted fish balanced with a more lightly seasoned chicken fried rice) - Finely chopped Chicken and mushroom/Tofu and mushroom wrapped in bean curd sheets, steamed with a light gravy - Kung Pao Beef: sounds American, but more like red peppers, carrots, celery, and the most tender pieces of sliced beef you'll ever eat - Whole fried chicken, with crispy salted skin, but such tender and succulent meat (even the breast) and homemade crisps - Wonton soup and noodle (although I do admit that I prefer fresh homemade noodles) Any bad stuff? Yeah, just off-street parking, but not too much of a hassle being in the Wedgwood area. I don't recommend the prawn and vermicelli crockpot. Traditionally I like this with more soy sauce and chili pepper combo, and more garlic. And I prefer the jasmine rice to be a little softer (I am super picky about my white rice.) But other than that, HIGHLY recommended. read more
