My friends and I came here for a treat, and initially, I was craving an egg custard tart; but soon learned in my visit they had sold out, which they normally do in the first half of the day (noted!). Therefore, I decided to try something new, the Wife Cake. The Wife Cake is a small pastry, made with almond paste and winter melon. I don't like overly sweet desserts, so this Wife Cake was a nice treat. Not that sweet, but sweet enough for it to be a dessert. The winter melon flavor was obvious in the cake and I really liked that it was made with almond paste, which is where the sweetness came from. It's definitely worth trying if you haven't before, for it has a unique flavor, all on its own. Yummy House Bakery has a ton of items to choose from though. Most mesmerizing were the elaborate cakes in the display case. They have layered cakes, made with fresh fruit, so will definitely have to someday order one...especially since I love mango, and I spotted one here with! In addition to cakes, there are small pastries, breads, savory items and of course, desserts. It's worth a visit while in the International District. The egg tart wasn't overly sweet and the crust isn't my personal favorite. I'm a big fan of egg tart shells that are flaky. The shell on this one reminded me more of a fruit tart shell. I often go here for their egg tarts. Hands down some of the best in town IMO. My bf ordered the fresh strawberry cake for me and it was so good. The cake was so fluffy, spongy, and light. The whipped cream frosting is my favorite, but can be a bit much for those who aren't a fan of frosting/ whipped cream. It's not too sweet which is what makes it so easy to eat, but the strawberries add the tartness to it. This is a 6 inch cake, it was about $32. The cakes here are SO yummy! Craving one as I write this review. We ordered a large custom mixed fruit cake for my grad party the same week we had our party. Fed about 50+ people. The cake was nice and fluffy and the fruits filling was cantaloupe and honeydew (wish it was more varied like the toppings). Toppings were peaches, pineapple, blueberry, strawberry, and grapes. Cream was just the perfect sweetness. Beautiful and simple design. We chose purple and yellow colors for UW. They were prompt and easy to work with (although the cashier lady who took notes for our cake had very limited English, so talk slowly). It was on the pricey end. I was expecting for it to be about $70, but it came out to $100. Would definitely consider ordering here again unless I found some place cheaper with the same quality. It was a bit hard to find because the windows are all boarded up but they are definitely open. I am so excited that my two co workers just introduced me to Yummy House Bakery in the International District. This place is walking distance from my office and has a lot to offer. From coconut tarts, to ham & bacon buns, to fresh cream puffs, to mocha rolls and more this place has it all. They do bake cakes here for special events but I am more interested in their fresh baked goods case that I can grab and go for breakfast, lunch, or a snack. The options are fairly cheap and worth every penny. This place is a lot better to come for a breakfast item than an expensive not as tasty Starbucks option. I ended up getting a coconut tart and bacon bun for my first time being there and both were extremely yummy. We got a 8" mocha custom cake with strawberry filling and mocha frosting for a birthday. The cake was mind blowing -- both in terms of taste and looks. The cake was very soft and light. Whenever I come to the International District I always come here for red bean buns. Their red bean buns are the best. I find most of their other buns to be good, but just average. I think ham and cheese buns or coconut cream buns come in second place. Those red bean buns are just on another level. The only bun I have disliked so far is the dried pork bun because the the ratio of bun to dried pork is off. The fresh fruit cakes are light, airy and not too sweet. The chestnut cake tastes very strongly of the chestnut paste, but I'm not sure that it the flavor doesn't suits the cake or if it just needs another texture because I didn't really enjoy it. Yummy House is clean and looks nice. There is a lot of seating, and everytime I've been here there are other customers hanging out. They appear to have a rewards program that I will check out some other time. It requires you to download an app, but I don't come here often enough to think about using it. If you buy 5 buns you get a 10% discount, so it's handy if you are buying for a family snack or as treats for the next few days. read more

I always come here when I need a Durian Cake for a celebration. Its cheap, consistent, and reliable. They always have the cake ready by the day of pick up. They also carry chinese baked goods and drinks similar to 85C Bakery. Those are hit or miss, but they are cheap. My favorite is the ham, cheese and corn bread. read more

I have been coming here since I was a kid. Visiting from Kentucky so I had to revisit my childhood snacks, I love that this place hadn't changed a bit. The prices were the same as well too, and it's been 6 years since the last time I visited. That's impressive given rising costs in Seattle. I never get the desserts but if you have a sweet tooth drop on in. They also have coffee and teas, it's a nice spot to post up if you want some peace and quiet. Just like a Cafe. Wasn't expecting to check this place out but because the power went off in Chinatown most shops, stores and restaurants had been close. My friend got a BBQ Pork Bun and a mix fruit cake. I got a green tea cake and a egg tart. I didn't try my friends BBQ Pork Bun because I'm not a fan, but she swear it was "Very Very Good." But I did try the mix fruit cakes. It was okay, all I tasted was cream. Wasn't impress with it at all, my green tea cake was okay, again wasn't impress with that either. Egg tart was good, wasn't too sweet (I don't really have a sweet tooth) the crust like so many people complain was not flaky enough. But some people seems to NOT know they have two kind of crust for egg tart, one with tons of layers to build a flaky crust or the American style crust like for fruit tarts. I personally like the American style crust over the flaky crust. It gets too messy for me. The lady that runs the place was super nice, very friendly and made small talk with me. I came here towards closing time to pick up some bread. The selection (as expected) was more limited, but was still pretty decent. I was able to pick up buns with BBQ, coconut filling, and sweet cream. Price per bread was fair, ranging from $1.25 - $2.00. I ate the coconut bread as I was walked out the store and it was very disappointing. The bread did not taste fresh or fluffy at all. It tasted stale, like it was at least one day old. Perhaps the bread would be better if you get it in the morning, when it's fresh out of the oven, but I would not come back again in the evening time. The coconut filling was also poor and almost nonexistent. I might update my review if I try the other breads, but so far I am not impressed. The cakes do look very well put together so those might change my mind if I came back. Tip: they charge a $0.50 surcharge for credit card payments until $5.00. read more

Even though it gets busy here, every thing moves by pretty fast. I haven't had the chance to sit here and enjoy my drink and pastries since I am always on-the-go every time I come in, but there are tables for you to sit which is super convenient. The fancy looking cakes are just okay. I had a walnut cake, there was almost no walnut to speak of, so I was suprised. I prefer the location inside Uwajimaya to this store simply because I don't have to deal with street parking nor the unsavoury folk that sometimes meander by. That said, the offerings are here vary from their other location and I think more plentiful. The counter staff lets you take your time in selecting treats. I will usually yield to someone behind me if I can sense they are in a rush. One reviewer said it perfectly when they mentioned the difference between American desserts and Chinese desserts. The latter won't give you a pain in your teeth from sugar but I grew up with less-sweetened treats so I prefer them. The treats here are cheap and you can pick up a couple of savoury items for lunch. I like their egg + ham buns and BBQ pork ones. I also like their hot dog + chive roll especially heated slightly in the oven on cold mornings. read more
