A SMALL Chicago deep dish pepperoni pizza. (Check vid for cheese pull.) Hearty, heavy, delicious. 2 slices filled me up. 5 out of 5.
Saemlinh I.

First and foremost, the customer service from both chaps was spectacular. Definitely made us feel welcome, were patient with my indecision, and was very accommodating. Restroom AND restroom was clean. That's a big plus in my book. About a dozen tables available and the noise level was not too loud. I ordered A SMALL Chicago deep dish pepperoni pizza. (Check vid for cheese pull.) It was hearty, heavy, and delicious. 2 slices filled me up. I'll be avoiding eating something this dangerous for about year, minimum. I give my pie a 5 out of 5! My bestie ordered Small Thin crust Chicken Special w/ vegan cheese. It was the yums. Only downside was that at certain points, the chicken/cheese/bbq sauce will slide off the pizza. Still, a 5 out of 5. Big thanks to my friend for recommending that we hang out at this joint. It was worth every moment!!

I came to this iconic location of Zachary's Chicago Pizza after visiting the original location on College Ave in Oakland. I didn't think I could eat Zachary's pizza two times in one day, so I waited a couple of days. This location at the top of Solano Ave is the second location to open, back in the 80's, so it's been here a long time. Like the Oakland location, parking is a bit of a pain in the area. Don't even think about parking at the grocery store across the street, they have a guy watching the parking lot and where you go. One trick with Zachary's, is if you're ordering deep dish pizza, call it in advance and then get in line. There's usually a wait for a table here as the inside is quite a bit smaller than the Oakland location. They take 45 min to prep and cook and you may not be the first person in line, so be patient, it's well worth it. The deep dish is the same at all the locations with that yummy flaky crust and fillings. Go for the stuffed option, where you get another thing crust layer on top and that is covered with sauce and cheese. The servers are very experienced with serving the first pieces to the guests. It's best to let them do the first piece and then the other pieces are easier to serve. We got the Zach Classic again, I love that combo. I'd like to try the half baked option sometime and then finish the cook at home whenever I wanna eat.

Zachary's is a true East Bay gem. I always take out-of-towners here, including those who have lived in Chicago and they always have great things to say about it. I always wind up parking a few blocks away but it's not too much trouble. They make everything to order and they do warn you that the deep dish pizzas will take time to bake. So don't come here expecting fast food. Service is always great, the server has always plated up our first slices for us. They do get busy, so be patient! This time, we got the chicken special and everything was super good! Nice and cheesy, you get a great cheese pull from this pizza. Will always return!

Best ceaser salad ever!! The pizza was bit heavy, but delicious nonetheless. Service was great and very spacious interior

Tried Zachary's for the first time and it was also my first time having deep dish, I'm a big fan! There were plenty of vegetarian options. We got the spinach and mushroom pie, and it was delicious with amazing cheese pulls. A small was more than enough for two, possibly three, so it's a great value. The arugula salad was a light, fresh starter. The pizza did take about 30 minutes to come out, but the cozy ambiance and attentive service more than made up for it. Our server checked in often and kept our waters topped off. The restaurant wasn't busy when we went, which made for a relaxed experience. I also really liked the unique wall art! Parking was a bit of a challenge on a Saturday afternoon, metered spots are limited nearby, but there's free residential parking a short distance away. Would definitely come back and recommend it to anyone curious about trying deep dish!

First time ordering half baked pizza. First time ever having Zachary's Chicago pizza. My manager would not stfu about this place. He was talking about it for weeks prior and today, this sweet sweet special day it came to fruition. It wasn't busy and seemed cozy inside. I ordered online and it was given to me as soon as I walked up. When I got home I followed the instructions given and bada bing. An awesome pie laid before me. A tear rolled down my cheek after the first bite, and a slow motion explosion with doves flying was behind me as I ate a slice. Yes, it did happen exactly like that.

I've had zachary's about half a dozen times now (maybe a dozen), and it's safe to say this is my favorite pizza spot in the entire bay area. The crust is perfectly charred with an airy, blistering rim, offering a loud, satisfying crunch. A surplus of a vibrant red, tangy tomato sauce that balances the savory, rich cheese. A savory, mouthwatering masterpiece that is impossible to resist. The aesthetic is one that is both abstract, yet elegant and homey. The service is attentive and consistent. Come to Zachary's if you need your life changed.

We come here every Saturday. It's great food, friendly service, and family-oriented. The overall quality and taste of the pizza and Caesar salad is excellent. The portions are also very satisfying. Review from my 9-year-old: I liked the consistency of the crust. It was a joy to bite into. Their Caesar salad was top notch and perfect seasoning. The service was extremely fast. The people there were very cautious about what was to our liking.

This little gem in Berkeley or Albany is great. It's it's on a strip of little boutiques that you can walk to while waiting for your pizza there. It's consignment shops and bedazzled shops and luxury rug, shops and all kinds of shops and the service was really good you can sit and our takeout and we decided to take out got home and we got the deep dish pizza. It was so good. Oh my gosh, perfect cheese Just good. The Ambiance you can go on a date there a first date will be great. There are somewhere to take the kids a solo day. I suggest you to check it out.

Zachary's Chicago Pizza, yum to the max! The Solano location has been home to many celebrations throughout life ~ birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, date nights, and family gatherings. One of my favorite things is grabbing a slice on-the-go, and Zachary's has an awesome lunch special available from 11a-3p that includes a slice of choice (usually cheese, pepp, veggie, or sausage) with a side Caesar salad and drink (iced tea or fountain) for $12.50! Slices at $6.50 a pop! Service is always quick, efficient, and friendly ~ as much as I enjoy getting deep dish with friends..our fam typically does the traditional thin-crust! Love the cornmeal crust, it's truly to me what sets Zach's apart from other local pizza spots. Hearty toppings, chunky tomatoes, amazing ranch. The way to my heart! The Zachary's Special (cheese, Italian sausage, mushroom, onion, green pepper) is a go-to and don't sleep on the Barbecue Chicken, so fire! Love the old school Zachary's merch sold and the pizza posters that adorn the brick walls of the restaurant. I think you can create-your-own artwork for the chance to be featured on the walls! Looks like the website has more info if there's an artist in ya!

Tired of the normal pan crust or thin crust pizza? Want something more filling? Try some Deep Dish Pizza at Zachary's! We've been coming here for years, and their pizzas have been consistently awesome. We usually get their Stuffed Spinach and Mushroom pizza to go. As soon as we got home, we went to town. By the time I realized I forgot to take a picture of the pizza, it was too late haha. Just know the pizza taste very fresh. It doesn't leave that heavy icky feel like other pizzas would. If you want to eat it there, they have plenty of tables and seating. I ordered online, walked up to the pickup area, gave them my name and she gave me my pizza. Quick and easy. There are haters that say it's not true Chicago Style Pizza. Well, we're in California and this is awesome Stuffed Deep Dish Pizza, no matter what style it is haha.

Ask the Community - Zachary's Chicago Pizza

Did the Solano Ave location close down temporarily or permanently? It seems to have vanished from the website listings, DoorDash, etc, and upon calling there's an impossible to hear voicemail message that is completely butchered by static.

They are temporarily closed because of a power outage from the storm. I can confirm the power was out last night, 3/21/23 at the top of Solano.

What are the ingredients in the gluten free crust?

How long does it take to bake "half-baked" pizzas?

It depends on what type of pizza you orderedreg or deep dish but you can call and they will give you the answer.

What are the meatballs made of?

Hello, our meatballs are made with a blend of pork and beef. Thanks!

Are gluten free pies made in the same oven as regular crust pies?

Yes, they are. They are cooked on a separate sheet, but in the same oven. While we try our absolute best, our kitchen is not gluten free, so we cannot guarantee 100% against cross contamination. Thank you!

Can I order a Vegan deep dish?

Yes! Our wheat crust is vegan and we offer vegan cheese. Make sure you specify you want your pizza made vegan and we will use our vegan margarine too.

Does your lunch special include a gluten free option? Thank you!

Yes they have gluten free and vegan options

Do they start selling slices as soon as they open?Approximately what time do they stop selling slices?

Hi Wendy, We aim to have slices ready right when we open our doors at 11:00 each day. We typically…

For one it brings back so many good memories, Blondie's always makes me happy. The second reason is they now have 100% BEEF PEPERONI! You heard me, 100% BEEF PEPPERONI! For some people that's not a big deal. For someone who hasn't eaten pork their whole life & always has to avoid getting pepperoni on their pizza, its a HUGE freaking deal. I love, love, love when the rare occasion happens that I get to enjoy BEEF PEPPERONI on my pizza. OK besides that, the pizza is amazing. I was literally closing my eyes and in my happy place the whole time. Now for those that never had BEEF PEPPERONI, please go try it. It is so much higher quality than pork pepperoni, so I've been told. I plan to make many more trips in the near future, thats how excited it made me. By the way I loved the cheese just as much, yum yummy. Pro tip: parking is hard, obviously, downtown Berkeley and all. So either walk, Uber, find parking, take the bus, or do as I do and tag team it and drop off a friend to go order for the whole car and drive around until they are ready to be picked up. Do what you have to, just get there. Now go enjoy yourself, you can thank me later.

We were a party of three and definitely over ordered- the Sicilian style Ray J, Truly thin and crispy, and arancini, but zero regrets. The Truly thin and crispy really reminded me of the Ciccino at Truly Pizza in Dana Point, which is my favorite pizza spot in the world! As the name suggests, it's very thin and crispy and I loved the texture. Great as an appetizer pizza lol. Thick square focaccia style pizza is definitely my preference, which is why the Ray J Sicilian was my favorite here. The toppings are generous, love the large chunks of cheese and the hot honey on this one. The arancini we got was also amazing, it had a slight lemony tang to it and some veggies inside which balanced out all the fried cheesiness in it. Would super recommend Pizzeria da Laura, and come in a large party if you can! I think my only downside is the bathroom situation as you have to take a key to take the elevator downstairs and it was hard to get a hold of the key, but maybe try to come at a less busy time. That reminds me, for sure make a reservation for weekends! Super easy to do on their website. Service by everyone was very kind and they were helpful explaining the difference between all their pizzas.

The location is excellent. It's within walking distance of UC Berkeley, just a minute from Downtown Berkeley BART, and there's a public parking garage a block away. Another nice touch is the market next door. They sell pizza by the slice, snacks, and drinks. I would've been there 100% during my college days. The customer service was outstanding. Everyone was genuinely friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer questions. The atmosphere was warm, clean, and inviting. You can watch the pizzas being made, and there's also a TV if you want to catch a game while you eat. It had a relaxed neighborhood feel that made us want to stay a little longer. Having delivered for Round Table back in the '90s, I have an appreciation for the flow of a pizza operation. Everything felt organized and efficient. We started with the Chicories & Beets salad. It was fresh, crisp, and a perfect way to start the meal. We ordered the 18" NY Ray J and Detroit The Standard. Detroit The Standard was my favorite. The crispy, caramelized cheese edges were incredible, while the inside stayed light and airy. The mushrooms were perfectly cooked, not soggy at all. Every topping tasted fresh, and the balance of pepperoni, sausage, onions, olives, and sauce was spot on. The NY Ray J was just as impressive. The crust had the perfect balance of crispiness and chew, making it easy to fold. The combination of thin and thick pepperoni, creamy burrata, fresh basil, fermented honey, and Parmigiano Reggiano was outstanding. Every slice came with a great cheese pull. Both pizzas had crispy crusts, fresh toppings, quality ingredients, and just the right amount of sauce. We left feeling satisfied, not heavy or bloated. We visited on a Wednesday, and by dinner time the restaurant was full. That's always a good sign. One of the highlights of the visit was chatting with Chef Laura about dough, ingredients, and technique. It gave me an even greater appreciation for the attention to detail that goes into every pizza, and I picked up a few ideas that will definitely improve my homemade pizza game. I'm actually eating the leftovers as I write this review. They reheat beautifully. The crust stays crispy, the toppings still taste fresh, and they're just as satisfying the next day. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Whether you're a Berkeley local or just passing through, Pizzeria da Laura is absolutely worth the trip.

They don't allow substitutions or mixing flavors (half and half), and their flavors either had meat and cheese or veggies and cheese (didn't see any that mixed meat and veggies unfortunately).
