Uber eats from Zakura I ordered the beef with onion bento box, and it was inedible. I was very disappointed. There was barely any meat--mostly fat with a lot of rice. The meat consisted of paper-thin slices of fat with only a very thin layer of meat in the middle, somewhat like bacon fat with a small strip of meat running through it but boiled. Garbage! We had a lovely time at the Zakura Japanese restaurant yesterday as we were celebrating my younger brother's birthday. The ambience reminded me one of the famous Japanese jazz bar, Sometime located at Kichijoji Station in the heart of Tokyo, Japan. I personally loved the dining experience, the sushi and sashimi was fresh and an absolute delight-- it was well crafted and made properly just as it should be. Zakura do better!!!!!!! This place has somehow survived for years but it must be because its the only sushi place in East Hampton/Amagansett. For sure drive to Sag Harbor to Sen if you can instead. The main problem with Zakura (and has been for eons) is the service. The one or two waitstaff seem so miserable that the experience is awful. I know it is difficult to find staff in restaurants in the Hamptons but you need to do better or train the waiters to at least not look like they want to kill you for bothering them by being there. The take out is always slammed so you are making $ - use it to hire more people! read more

We had a last minute party and I really wanted a sushi spread to welcome guests. I literally called Zakura the day before and told them I needed something not only delicious but also pretty AND that i needed to pick it up before noon - even though the restaurant didn't open until 4. Elaine was beyond sweet and told me she would talk to the boss and take care of it. I had given a few items I knew I wanted but told her to take liberty to add anything needed to round out the order. OMG . Suffice it to say- they went above and beyond. The sushi was gorgeous and fresh, varied and amazing!! They added a few rolls and pieces that made it absolutely perfect. I have nothing but good things to say- they will always be my and my friends' go-to place for sushi out east from now on!! read more

Martin Luther King weekend, 2023...a grand total of four people in the restaurant, and a surly Asian American "bartender/waiter", plus one waitress. Questions were not answered politely, and the food was mediocre at best. Not the freshest fish. A request for a little extra wasabi, and ginger was begrudgingly provided, for an extra sneer, and a few extra dollars...try pulling your a--es out of your phones for a few minutes, and actually provide some service to your customers. The food and service is really good. I am a stickler for a good salmon avocado handroll where the seaweed is nice and crunchy. They did a really nice job with it. I highly recommend the Ted roll. This place has come a long way from the other ratings that I see on this. It is a great place close to Stephens Talkhouse to grab something quick before standing on the long line. Worst service! Coming for years when it was ran by Elaine who kept this local affordable sushi something to count on especially for us NYC/Hamptons year rounders. But last 2 experiences were so terrible to have me tonight walk out after sitting 50 minutes waiting for Sashimi especially when 2 that table sat next to me arrived after yet got their food while I was still waiting. A month ago some of fish did not smell/taste fresh and tempura was over-fried greasy. But tonight I ended up walking out and after complaining to the taller guy waiter. I sat down at 6:30pm for a quick hour bite before 8pm appt in Southampton. By 7:20pm no Sashimi and frustrated by his attitude from the start. I've worked in restaurants. The limited seating of room isn't that unmanageable for 2 waiters if they had better server skills and attitude. Absolutely not one apology and just dismissive. If you're going to be a service provider, you're signing up to take care of customers. I have to tested if I walk out and take more time to write a review. Sitting, almost an hour for a simple sashimi platter for one, stressing on precious dinner time before appt, to then have waiter get more frustrated at you the customer for flagging the poor service is unacceptable. The food was decent; I've had better beef teriyaki in my life, but this was serviceable. However, the service was anything but. We arrived around 9 PM, admittedly 1 hour before they closed, and we (2 people) had no intention of staying past hours. Still, the waiter demanded we order everything at once (which we intended to do anyway). Our entree came out, but while we were still finishing our meal (with ample time left before the place closed) the waiter rushed out our desert (this was not very appetizing). Further, the waiter was rude. My friend decided to pay the bill and after submitting his debit card he informed us that they needed my friend to accompany him to put the pin in. I've never heard of this happening at any restaurant. My friend told me that they forced him to give at least a 20% tip, which we were not inclined to do given his rude service. Long story short, given the rude and rushed dinner, we won't be back anytime soon. read more

When you think of Japanese food you expect authenticity and high quality ingredients. Zakura is a mediocre mock up Japanese restaurant that is moderately passable. Their Gyoza are frozen, the sushi is wrapped unevenly so the nori is exposed, the ramen needs a better broth with rich flavors and an emphasis on authentic Japanese cuisine. The plating didn't have much care. The service was slow with taking our order then was confused due to a language barrier. Overall go somewhere else, this place isn't worth the visit unless you are desperate. read more

He didn't greet us just came up to the table and said "what do you want?" Then at the end after we had paid he grabbed the check and asked why we didn't tip more. Formerly my go-to place...removing soup from entree orders was the last straw. This is my main sushi place in the area and I have been a loyal customer for over 5years. They have been running take out service during the pandemic which has been great and I have been thankful for their service DESPITE the steadily decreasing size of their sushi and sashimi cuts. Every month since March I have seen the servings sizes get smaller and smaller. And the soup servings also got smaller on the take out orders. But I let it go. Today (August 6th) I ordered two entrees and was told that they will no longer include miso soup with the orders - if u want it-$3 extra. Seriously?? The menu prices are the same or higher than earlier in the year and now they want to charge for something that almost every other sushi restaurant in the state (country?) includes for free (it's never really "free" but you know what I mean...). Besides it being really a cheap move- it makes me worry on what other items are they cutting corners? How old is the fish? How clean are the facilities? If they don't want to waste soups, ask customers if they want it included but to remove it when it was already shrunk to a smaller cup size is just poor and makes me question if the food is still the same quality as it used to be. Sadly I will start going to other Japanese restaurants that include basic miso soup with entrees and hopefully don't cut their pieces into micro sizes. If they want to make more money- think about opening an outdoor seating area- not cutting out a very low cost entree staple. Next they'll start charging for the rice that goes with the entrees... :( read more

Then when she brought back my check and I took the detailed copy she asked for it back? I am very perplexed by the recent highly negative reviews. I found the food to be good, the service helpful, and the fish tank beautiful. Not only was all the fish in the sashimi and sushi very fresh, but also the prices were very reasonable, especially given the location. Our waitress was attentive and refilled my tea without my having to ask. While the music was a little loud when we came in, they turned it down at our request. One of the few delicious and affordable place to go in the Hamptons. Everything I have had here is comparable and much more reasonable than its Sag Harbor sushi counterpart, Sen. The portions are larger at half the price and I have yet to encounter a wait, even when we come in at 9pm on Saturday during Memorial Day weekend with 8 people. They have traditionally styled Japanese booths that easily accommodate 8-10 people. This is a true Japanese restaurant, no Rosé, plenty of Saki options and a basic selection of alcohol and wine - nothing fancy. They tend to bring food as it is ready, as opposed to all at once but I have only experienced this when it is just my boyfriend and I. Apparently this puts people off. The service is relaxed which makes it ideal for groups who want to chat and not be smothered by the waiter. However, this means that when the waiter is there, make sure you order anything you will want in the near future. Possibly not the place to go if you are in a hurry. The one downside is that the decor and atmosphere is a little dated. But this is what keeps their delicious food so reasonable so I'm not complaining! read more

Really good sushi is hard to find. I will say the Sushi at Zakura was pretty darn good. The sushi was fresh and was served in a timely manner. The steamed wasabi dumplings were flavored just right.
