Zankou Chicken is, hands down, one of my favorite places to eat. I first tried it many years ago when I lived on the Westside, but I had a rediscovery when I moved to Glendale. Now, I eat it at least a few times a month, and I'm in their top 5% of customers on Postmates. Needless to say, my husband and I are very loyal customers. I think I had the chicken once, but tbh, the tri-tip shawarma is where it's at. We always order the same thing -- tri tip shawarma plate with hummus, tahini, and rice. You also need to make sure they give you their garlic paste when you receive your order. If they only give you one, ask for two!! You CANNOT have Zankou unless you get their garlic paste. It's a game changer. This location has a really small parking lot, but if you drive to the end, there is underground parking as well with a staircase leading right to the entrance of Zankou. I've been to four locations, and I'm not sure if this is the OG or something, but it's def more hole-in-the-wall looking than the others. The one in Burbank is the nicest one I've been to. Santa Clarita is also quite modern. Regardless, the food is just as tasty if not even better at this location. Perhaps due to it being in Glendale. I am sooooo glad they finally added the cucumber mint lemonade machines in this location because it is seriously TO DIE FOR. I love it so much that whenever I'm waiting for my food, I try to drink as much as I can so I can get a refill before I leave. It's THAT GOOD. My only complaint is that on Postmates, you can't order the cucumber mint lemonade. Please add it to the menu!! Other than that, I cannot recommend Zankou enough. There are so many similar establishments in the area, but Zankou is by far the best out of all of them. read more

I got take out from here and I would say it's pretty good solely due to my utmost loyalty to the Zankou franchise. That being said, I always go back and compare my Zankou endeavors elsewhere to the in Pasadena. Unlike here, the Zankou in Pasadena is not stingy with their portions and their food are so fresh. Compared to that, I wouldn't say this location in Glendale holds up, especially considering the stiff competition with other Mediterrean/Persian/Armenian food options in the area. Little spot always busy. I waited in line on a Thursday 12 at noon and it was a 6-8min wait. Not much space to eat inside, and the cashier was polite. I tried some rotisserie chicken, it was dry and flavorless. The tri-tip shawarma was not bad for around 13$ because it's just bread, sauce, tomatoes, and meat they put a big portion of sauce and tomatoes but they were forced into giving out a normal portion of meat. When you buy a whole rotisserie chicken they give you pita bread along with it and the shawarmas bread was stale so any old pita bread they had from not selling enough rotisserie chicken was used for the shawarmas. We also got a tri tip bowl for 18$ and it was rice with meat topping for nearly double the price of the shawarma they gave only 1/4th the meat it was only rice with a side of yogurt&cucumber topped with a tiny salad. Another recommendation for this low budget establishment is that they don't normally give sumac you have to ask for it. This place has a lot more potential if they don't try to cut corners giving out rice and bread instead of actual meat. 4/10 read more

Wow, this place absolutely blew me away! To be honest, I didn't expect much. But when the kabob order came out, I took a bite and MY GOODNESS. My fiance ordered the combo plate with chicken kabob and shish kabob (steak). I ordered the beef shawarma bowl. The shawarma was okay... but the kabobs were SO incredibly tender and flavorful and juicy. Everything else was good too, such as the basmati rice, hummus, tomato and cucumber salad, etc. The parking for this particular plaza is a bit interesting. The lot above ground is rather small, so you'll probably have to park in the additional lot in the basement. read more

I appreciate how challenging working in the service industry is during the current pandemic. I applaud the working folks making our meals. I also applaud Zankou's creative indoor use of Saran Wrap to create some sort of safety zone for the workers. I also appreciate how spotless and clean the place was. I waited 20 minutes for takeout although it was empty. Challenging times, I get it. My food was a soggy mess by the time I got home, so pro tip ask for tahini on the side. The beef shawarma is good, the chicken was dry. I wish the combo plate came with rice. For $15 there are some other places I could hit up and enjoy a little more. I came here last week for the first time and the salad here is amazing and delish! I came a couple more times since but had to write the review because my first experience here, i was confused but James hes the only person of color ive seen. i think he is a cook, was super helpful and knew exactly what I wanted and personally made the salad very hearty. If your here make sure that James makes it because he has such a great personality and there was no mistakes. Abel the cashier and James gave me a good experience. Ordered the chicken kabob plate and it came out to around $15 without a drink. Food tasted great, and the portion is good. My only issue was the parking...the parking lot is a bit tight and not alot of spaces. there is an underground parking but the gate was closed when i arrived. other than that, its a good spot for food. read more

Food is consistent even when busy! The shawarma wrap is delicious!! Sometimes they are behind on their roasted chicken.

Picked up food from this location and it was awful in such a departure from their usual delicious food. The chicken was dry as dirt and tasted like it must have been from the day before, the tabouli also tasted like it was made three days earlier and the rice was completely overcooked. We eat Zankou Chicken about once a month from the Pasadena location but since my husband works in Glendale he picked up food from this location on his way home. We will continue to go to the Pasadena location but we will never return to this one. Good ol' Zankou Chicken... I've been going to this location since my family moved to Glendale from SF a few decades back. It is almost always busy and the parking lot can be a little challenging. Nevertheless, a whole chicken with pita bread and hummus/basmati rice on the side or chicken wrap with that addicting garlic spread is always worth the trouble. When I dont wanna get too messy, I will get the wrap. When I have some time to indulge and get my hands a little dirty, I will get a half or whole chicken... The rotisserie chicken recipe and process that Zankou makes is unrivaled. They are the OG. They do it so well. And that garlic spread... Some people may not know. But it was actually tastier before. Before the tragic events many years ago... But I digress. It's still very good and totally makes each bite a delicious one. Service has always been more than decent. This is such a highlight of my week that I routinely come in on Friday nights, so that I can reward myself after a long work week. The beef shawarma is my jam, and I always get it even though it's more than I can finish. I have never been disappointed by this dish. At this location in particular, I have consistently had the best shawarma plate. Even the side dishes are top notch. For a long time -- traumatized by other locations previously -- I never got the salad because it was always disgusting at some other locations. Here, I can't get enough. You MUST get the garlic spread with their chicken. I ordered 2 shawarma plates and 6 pieces of falafel (have had the chicken rotisserie before and it's delicious) the shawarma was tasty, the falafel was moist and flavorful. Both came with tahini sauce, which is out of this world. The shawarma came with pita bread, salad and hummus and tahini sauce. Everything was tasted. For drinks, I got the yogurt drink, and for those non Armenian-non middle Easters I know you may find this drink disgusting but you gotta try it at least once. I have been a zankou fan for about 30 years! I moved far away from Zankou, but I drive some serious miles when I get the craving. Service was great. Came to this location on a Sunday, a lot if parking at the strip mall, and actually stopped by when it opened. This place can get crowded, but food orders come out fast. The Chicken Tarna plate is about $13.99 and it comes with Chicjen Shewerma, tahini sauce, salad, hummus and pita bread. What a deal. It's like having 2 meals. Didnt order the Falafel plate this time, but Zankou has the best Falafel....crispy & flavorful. ...and that famous Zankou Garlic paste, that I can eat with everything! When I need my garlic fix, I go to Zankou Chicken! I've been to this location many times, but this time wasn't the best experience. First of all, I think that they should be a little bit for flexible on the menu and allow for substitutions. I usually get the family meal which includes a packet of flatbread. Before I ordered, I asked the cashier if I could substitute the flatbread for rice. The manager, Karen, was right there and gave me a resounding "No". Not even a, "Let me think about it"...I even told her that we have three packs at home that are just sitting there and no one was going to eat it. So she basically said that it was o.k. to waste food. I ordered the family meal and got an extra quart of rice. I also ordered two shish kabob for an extra $12. The cashier called out the kabob order to the cooks even before I paid. Long story long and literally 30 minutes later, my order was ready. Not only that, I had ASKED Karen if the salad dressing was on the side. When we got home, guess what...It wasn't even in the bag! I haven't been disappointed in food in a while... I checked out Zankou last night for dinner because I thought it was conveniently close and didn't want to drive too much In the rain. Parking in this plaza is a disaster by the way (they have 12 businesses and only 8 spots.. makes no sense). They have plenty of choices on the menu and I really wanted to try the shish (beef) kabob. The lady taking my order said that the beef kabob would take 15-20 minutes and that made no sense. I know other fast food Middle Eastern that can prepare kabobs under 10 minutes. In fact, Raffi's on Broadway (another nice sit down restaurant) takes around 15-20 minutes for their kabob plates to come out. I was on a time crunch so I asked her if there was anything else that would take less time and she recommended the wraps. The wrap only came with the tri-trip and tomatoes. So I paid extra to have lettuce and hummus added in there. In the end, I paid $9 for a wrap that tasted..poorly. Lack of flavor, not enough ingredients and became soggy with minutes. I was extremely disappointed and will not be coming back. Luckily I live in Glendale and I have many choices to choose from when I crave middle eastern food! read more

Made my way down here to Zankou Chicken after a routine car part run. Enjoying coming down here for some tasty chicken. A home town favorite of my girlfriend's for years and it has become a go to of mines when we are in the area. Food is always solid, fast service, clean and great customer service. Tony took care of us today, greeting us and making us always welcome to be back. The staff were hard at work and friendly.
