When I need my garlic fix, I go to Zankou Chicken! I've been to this location many times, but this time wasn't the best experience. First of all, I think that they should be a little bit for flexible on the menu and allow for substitutions. I usually get the family meal which includes a packet of flatbread. Before I ordered, I asked the cashier if I could substitute the flatbread for rice. The manager, Karen, was right there and gave me a resounding "No". Not even a, "Let me think about it"...I even told her that we have three packs at home that are just sitting there and no one was going to eat it. So she basically said that it was o.k. to waste food. I ordered the family meal and got an extra quart of rice. I also ordered two shish kabob for an extra $12. The cashier called out the kabob order to the cooks even before I paid. Long story long and literally 30 minutes later, my order was ready. Not only that, I had ASKED Karen if the salad dressing was on the side. When we got home, guess what...It wasn't even in the bag! My friend and I came here late as most everything near by was fast food or soon closing but the food was pretty delicious. I think my friend got me the kabob combo plate and the beef tasted so good. The beef shish was not great the last two times I visited. As one of the more expensive options, you'd think it'd be outstanding. The pieces were either too small or overly tough and chewy. I also didn't receive a roasted tomato on one visit and they mixed up a side order. The lule is always good. I needa try their rotisserie chicken sometime haha. It's tough eating out these days after the pandemic, there's always new staff that need more training, higher prices without greater quality. You weigh if your meal is worth the money and it often isn't these days. I haven't been disappointed in food in a while... I checked out Zankou last night for dinner because I thought it was conveniently close and didn't want to drive too much In the rain. Parking in this plaza is a disaster by the way (they have 12 businesses and only 8 spots.. makes no sense). They have plenty of choices on the menu and I really wanted to try the shish (beef) kabob. The lady taking my order said that the beef kabob would take 15-20 minutes and that made no sense. I know other fast food Middle Eastern that can prepare kabobs under 10 minutes. In fact, Raffi's on Broadway (another nice sit down restaurant) takes around 15-20 minutes for their kabob plates to come out. I was on a time crunch so I asked her if there was anything else that would take less time and she recommended the wraps. The wrap only came with the tri-trip and tomatoes. So I paid extra to have lettuce and hummus added in there. In the end, I paid $9 for a wrap that tasted..poorly. Lack of flavor, not enough ingredients and became soggy with minutes. I was extremely disappointed and will not be coming back. Luckily I live in Glendale and I have many choices to choose from when I crave middle eastern food! read more

My bf's family bought me take out from here multiple times. One of the most popular home grown franchises in the area. So far I have only tried the falafel platter-it's some of the best falafel I have had. Great vegan or vegetarian option. Big, nice and flavorful interior. Great tabouli and hummus. Would love to try the mutabal/babaganoush next time. I also learned that there is a murder tale associated with this restaurant. While eating, I was told of a drama around the founding family and the owner going nuts and killing his family members. Crazy! I used to love coming here, but lately they have been screwing up my orders or making them late. Today was the last straw, I called and they said it would be ready in 10 to 15 minutes, 25 minutes later I got my food, when I complained I was told "sorry we had a lot of kabob orders", my only concern is, if you know you have a lot of Kabob orders why don't you tell me that? I mean yeah if I'm in a hurry I won't order today but at least I won't get mad and stop ordering in the future. With this location, they prepare the food either really well or really bad, no in-between. I found the food to be best on busier days. Made my way down here to Zankou Chicken after a routine car part run. Enjoying coming down here for some tasty chicken. A home town favorite of my girlfriend's for years and it has become a go to of mines when we are in the area. Food is always solid, fast service, clean and great customer service. Oh. My. God. I thought Zankou Chicken could not get any better. I've been to Zankou before. They have one near my community college and I've stopped by the one in Montebello. I took my boyfriend for the first time near our house in Montebello and he was blown away by how good it was. Just last week, we ended up coming to this Glendale location because we were in the area and we haven't eaten Zankou in a really long time. The wait was only 15 minutes. I ordered the beef combo plate while my boyfriend ordered the lamb combo plate. Social distancing was enforced and of course, we also ordered two extra garlic sauces (I mean... of course. Why wouldn't we?) We got our stuff, went home, and excitedly opened up the bag. Firstly, the containers were eco-friendly. That is a HUGE plus for me because we are always trying to be as environmentally friendly as we can. I started to eat my beef plate and my boyfriend began to eat his. Oh. My. GOD. I had no idea that each location would taste different from one another, but by all means, I will not be going to any other location other than the Glendale one from now on. The quality of the meat, the freshness of the rice, and the portion sizes are just absolutely phenomenal. The beef was SO incredibly tender and juicy, not a single portion of it was dry. When I went to the other locations, the beef was good but always a little on the dry side. Oh, no, not this one. They forgot my tomato in my order but that was quickly forgotten about. The amount of bread that they gave us was amazing as well! I have never gotten more than one slice for my combo plate, but this place gave us four whole slices of bread!!! FOUR WHOLE SLICES!!! I didn't have to ration it at all! There was plenty left over and I just spread it all over with garlic and hummus spread and ate it that way. I cannot believe that Zankou could get any better. But rest assured, now that I know each location is different, I will not longer be going to any location other than the Glendale one. Raved by the LA Times and NY Times, both publications said this is the best chicken ever. Four days after eating there, I'm still trying to figure out why. Did both newspapers send out the same person who only eats at McDonald's, so in comparison, this is outstanding? Tucked in to the corner of a small plaza with tight parking spaces, Zankou is a casual restaurant with Middle Eastern influence. You go in, look at the menu above the cashier and place your order. Once it's ready, your beeper vibrates and you pick up your order at the end of the counter. Simple enough for rookies such as myself. All drinks, utensils & napkins are also self serve, and you bus your own table when done. On to the food: Since they are known for chicken, we ordered (duh!) chicken! #3 comes with a half chicken, pita bread, their famous garlic sauce, hummus and pickled turnip. Expecting to be blown away by the "best chicken" ever, we were quickly disappointed after the first bite. It was dry, bland and in need of seasoning, any would do. But dipped into the garlic sauce revived it from its sleepy state. The crispy skin had a little flavor, but it crunched like the whole bird was deep fried, not rotisserie. How long was the chicken sitting there, I wondered. We also ordered #7, tri-tip shawerma, because .... tri-tip. Menu states it's marinated and flame broiled. I know ... sounds amazing. But any flame broiled flavor and marinade was covered up by the abundance of a white yogurt dressing. We were satisfied with the meal itself, ate almost everything and left full. But very disappointed by the claims of it being the best chicken ever and the hyped up description of the tri-tip in our shawerma wrap. I don't see a return trip, and based on our experience, I suggest people don't trust the "best" claim. Go in there w/ an open mind and no expectations at all, and you'll leave full, though not necessarily impressed. Notes: Small private lot watched by a security guard who keep checking his phone. Helps if your car isn't huge and has a good turning ratio. The kebabs (according to cashier) would take 15 min. to prepare. Not sure if they were out or it's all made to order. Take extra napkins, because the type they use is thin and rips easily. You'll need more if eating with your hands Baklava Factory is in the same plaza. Go in and get some! This place is great. I recommend the fingers: Small, flaky, mildly sweet, fresh! And if they offer to sprinkle chopped pistachios, say yes! read more

The Last Supper for Jesus and his friends should've been catered by Zankou Chicken. Our world would be better if everybody was able to experience this at least just once. I was hesitant on what the food was so after looking lost, the manager noticed and explained to me what the menu consisted of, he even gave me samples to help me decide. The meat was so juicy and nicely caramelized! that garlic sauce and grilled tomatoes and onions went really well with the plate. I came here last night with my son because he wants to get some chicken. :) We got the half chicken plate with rice, garlic paste or tar tar and pita bread on the side. The food is really good, the chicken is not even greasy at all, the basmati rice is not dry (yum!) and the pita is sooooo warm!! The guy who took our order is very nice , polite and he really gave us the order that we wanted. He offer us some tomatoes, onions and etc but I told him we just want half chicken, extra rice for me and my son, garlic paste or tar tar on the side and ONE pita bread BUT he gave us 2 pita bread so that It will be one for my son and one for me.
