We arrived on a busy Sunday night at the new South Bay/Lawndale location. They were "slammed" by the number of customers. We were able to secure a booth after some people left. It was a good thing because the meal we ordered would not have fit our original two person table. It was our first time eating at Zankou Chicken. The whole chicken was cut up into six pieces per our request. It was very juicy and delicious. We also got two sides, hummus and an eggplant dish we know as babaganoush. The menu calls it something else starting with the letter "m". We chose tahini and garlic butter for our two sauces. Red pickled vegetables cut into sticks provided a crunch. A large pack of pita bread was served. A server helped my husband carry the second tray of food to our booth. It was worth the wait. We had enough left over for another dinner plus snacks. The whole chicken meal was a deal at $29.99. We will return. read more

New in our area- my family stopped in today to order to go. We honestly would have went sooner if we knew it was mediterranean food. I walked in and immediately noticed how clean it is. Very nice- completely new look from place that was there before. We were there today- Friday at 4:15 pm. It wasn't packed- but there were at least 4/5 tables of people and a steady stream of incoming customers. The menu is large- they offer family meals and wraps, or plates & salads. We ordered, and the staff had suggestions, complements, and was very friendly. He offered a water cup while we waited for our food. While waiting-(if ordering kabobs there is a 5-10 min wait- not sure if that is normal or because of the time we were there) My daughter and I were waiting- both of us on our phones (typical LA peeps) and a staff member came up and was talking to us- asked if we needed anything and was just politely making his way around the sitting area to make sure all the customers were good. Another staff came out with samples of their baklava and offered to everyone. He also told me to try the in house made cucumber mint lemonade- that it was great, said if I prefer it sweeter to add orange crush soda to it- and dont pay attention to it looking like muddy water- its great tasting he said. I didn't try it- but maybe next time. He made my daughter chuckle and that alone was a victory in my eyes. The owner too was there interacting with customers, and introducing himself. I have to say- everyone was so nice it was like a breath of fresh air. I hope that does not change. We will be back! The portions were large, and the price was a little over $50 for 3 people. (I tipped a little because of the amount of customer service) It is pretty much a "fast food" type place- and I wouldn't normally tip. But these staff went above and beyond. What a gem!! The food is fresh, delicious, and very tasty. I tried the Lule kabob plate, and it was very filling and delicious. So, the baklava is flaky, sweet, and nutty. The place is clean, and the service is top-notch. The servers came by three times to check on us and see what we needed, even offering us complimentary baklava. So happy they opened a Zankou Chicken in the South Bay! I've always loved their food. Everything is always super flavorful, and the sides are just as good as the main dishes. So excited to finally have Zankou Chicken in the South Bay. I went during opening week for dinner and got there around 4:45pm. Even that early, there was already a solid line and most of the restaurant was filled--but the line moved fast. The staff was on it: friendly, attentive, and clearly well-trained. You could tell they brought their A-team for the opening. I ordered the Big Family Meal (two whole chickens and four large sides), and the portions were generous. Everything was excellent. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, the hummus and tabbouleh were fresh, and the toum was exactly as it should be. The harissa was new to me--spicy, complex, and seriously addictive. Honestly, it tasted just as good as the first time I had Zankou back in 2001. Which brings me to why this location means so much to me. My entire adult life, I've lived within a five-minute drive of a Zankou Chicken. It's been one of my all-time favorite places to eat. I lived near the Burbank location, then the West LA one. But about 11 years ago, I moved to the South Bay--and for the first time in my adult life, I didn't have Zankou nearby. I've missed it ever since. So having Zankou finally open in Lawndale feels like a homecoming. I'm genuinely grateful they brought it here, and I really hope they keep up the quality, the family feel, and the consistency that made Zankou such a classic in the first place. I was so happy to see the Zankou sign in the South Bay, and have been anxiously awaiting it's opening. Finally, I was able to enjoy it again. It was just as tasty as I remember it in my younger days. We bought the shawarma wrap, kebob combo, half chicken and baklava. So good! Frankly, I'd be perfectly happy having the chicken, rice and cucumber salad weekly. The garlic sauce is the best! We had a nice chat with the grandson of the founder, whom had grown up in the Hollywood location. It's nice to see his commitment to excellence in the family business. I was present when zankou opened their door in Hollywood quality and portions were always decent, now in Hawthorne I have been there 4 times and today is the last time every time they get the orders and sides wrong I know you are supposed to check before leaving the last times I caught today I was in a hurry I would strongly recommend that you get the shawarma sandwich instead of the plate you probably will get more meat I am not sure if the cook forgot to complete the order but it was not enough very disappointed and upset they lost a loyal customer read more

When we ordered, we were told chicken would take 35 minutes. We ended up ordering combo kabobs because the wait was 10-15 minutes. Our order took about 20 minutes. I can appreciate her setting the expectations immediately. When our food was ready, we then found out they ran out of pita chips, which they substituted pita bread for blah. Then when we got home, the beef was practically rare and the chicken was pink. Both chewy and under cooked. Today my order was missing a hummus and I almost left without it ! Coming in at a later time of day, you never know how attentive the workers will be, however the cashier who took my order (Nikita) did a great job and went above and beyond to resolve the issue with a smile. Gave this place a try we ordered the half chicken and the ground beef wrap. The ground beef was amazing delicious but the wrap unfortunately fell apart as the pita was very dry and almost stale. The chicken was good and the garlic sauce was perfect! Let me start off by saying that im so happy Zankou has a store in the Southbay! I'm so used to going to Zankou in Hollywood so the nostalgia for me is what brought me here. This Zankou is bigger and the customer service and the food is what will keep me coming back. Carlos the store manager went out of his way to make sure my family and I were taken care of when I asked about a slight change in the offerings on the menu, and he even offered me a free pita bread, which I gladly accepted. I usually have zankou chicken in Anaheim because it's near my house but this one right here is next to my work. I love both locations. They're equally as good. I think management did a great job at hiring the people that work upfront they're friendly, and have good service. It was a busy day today so I was waiting for my food on the side twice. They asked me if I had been helped out already, and on the second time, the guy asked for my name so he can be more aware of my upcoming order as soon as my order was finished he handed it to me and made sure I had all the sauces. Unfortunately today, we accidentally got 5 tri-tip's instead of chicken. Right away we called, and the service that we were met with was outstanding! Jared was very helpful and understanding. De-li-cious! The chicken was incredibly juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. We tried the hummus and rice as sides--the hummus was silky smooth, and the basmati rice tasted perfectly fresh. I love how generous they are with the pita; we always ask for extra, and it was the perfect amount for the whole chicken we ordered. We also had the fattoush salad, which was honestly the best I've ever had. The only thing that could take it over the top would be fried pita chips, but even without them, the balance was spot on. They forgot to provide de chips for my dip, and fstush salad I asked for the chips and he said I had to pay for them... I said yes of course.... I immediately put my hand in my purse and he said with a smile.... you have to go back to line to pay the chips they forgot to include. The line was very long and I was not going to make that line. He knew that. I later learned that the chips come with it. I was under the impression that I forgot to ask for them and I had to pay as a side item. Juan really made thecrestsurant look bad and his colleagues too. I left upset after the $87 purchase..... We are so happy Zanku is in our area... But you need to either teach Juan customer service or remove him. It's about the principle... a bag of chips and I was ready to pay not for free.... but Juan making me go to line after I had waited twice for my food... I find this a disservice. He could have charge me with the cashier next yo him. But the person next to him... Assisted with a lie someone that wanted more pita bread and with no problem handed the extra pita bread. First timer here. I ordered the chicken family meal which, according to the menu, feeds a family of 4. Let me just say: the whole chicken is INCREDIBLY SMALL. It's the size of a Cornish hen. It is also incredibly bland and on the dry side. The harissa sauce is very good, but you need to drench the chicken in it to make sure you can swallow it. The garlic sauce is also surprisingly very bland and has a pasty gluey texture. The cucumber salad was okay, but needs something. The pickled radishes and hummus were enjoyable. Again, my biggest gripe is the chicken- the size, lack of flavor and moisture- such a bummer. I might try some other things on the menu next time. I will say, the service and employees are absolutely wonderful. Very personable and attentive. I just wish the food was better. read more
