ZaZa's is your neighborhood pizzeria in Lake View. There are 4 tables with seating for about 20 people with counter service, so there really isn't wait staff. They recently opened in 2021 and as of September, they stopped providing delivery -- so you either have to call your order in, order online, or place your order in store for pickup. My friend and I dined in on a Saturday night and the wait wasn't too long, less than 45 minutes. We ordered the Chicago style salad, garlic knots, and a BYO pizza with sausage, pepperoni, garlic, and EVOO. There's a case of sodas, root beer, and water, but no beer and it's not BYOB. I have been going to Zaza's practically from the time they opened. I live near the restaurant and had seen businesses go in and out of that location. When they opened, I decided to walk in as I hadn't had good New York style before. I will always remember taking my first bites of the gold medal and grandma slices. This pizza is SO GOOD. But be prepared to wait!! The online information about whether they had slices available was confusing. The google description and website said different things. I ended up calling and they said they only sell by the slice up until 5pm (I think only on weekends or weekdays?) or until they sell out. I would assume that they sell out very early and recommend you just give them a call! It was Friday around 6pm and I tried to put in an online order for pickup but it was closed to ordering so I called and they said they were only taking orders in person, but the wait was 1 hour 15 minutes. So we drove there, ordered the pizza, and walked to a brewery to hang out and wait. Worth it, but just plan ahead so you don't get hangry! We got the Mike's hot honey pepperoni pizza, which was such a perfect combination of spicy, sweet, and savory. The peps were perfect little cups holding that delicious honey and just the right amount of oil. I love this NYC style pizza, especially because it's thin but still thick enough to stand up when holding it with one hand, so you don't have to cradle it with your other hand. We had some leftovers, and it maintained it's level of deliciousness when we heated it up in the microwave the next day! The Chicago style salad was a fun take on a salad and Chicago dog combo! (Minus the hot dog) It had the sport peppers, tomatoes, and the dressing had the poppy seeds and really tied it altogether! I definitely recommend. A nice balance to the pizza. The Funky Caesar Salad. It's absolutely incredible. The pizza is really good, but I'm obsessed with the salad. We love the build your own option for the pizza esp bc you can customize halves. The toppings they offer are all extremely high quality. They get really busy but the staff is on top of it and moves things along quickly. It's a small place so if you plan to eat there you may have to wait for a table. It is BYOB (and conveniently located across from Binnys) which is another reason this place is great. read more

This is a pretty good pizza place, particularly if you're looking for by the slice since there are not many. The space is very small; if you're looking to eat inside it may be tricky to find a seat. I recommend Mike's Hot Pepperoni, Gold Medal, and White pies. I tried six of the pizzas and all were good, though something was missing for me across them all. A little one-dimensional in flavor. Some of them I expected more flavors to hit me, like with the Bacon Jam Pie. Some people seem to love the truffle mushroom pie, but I found it a bit too salty and particularly lacking in nuance. Overall we enjoyed our slices at Zazas. The gold medal slice was by far the fav of the day. Since the slices were reheated, they felt a little stale. When we ordered them we asked for them to be sliced in half again which none of them were. The guys behind the pizza counter were annoyed when we asked for them to be sliced again even though it was specified on the ticket. Their inside is quite small so it might be a better option to order a pie to go. I'd love to try their grandmas style next since NYC isn't my favorite. read more

Good pizza, delicious garlic twists, below average cookie. Ordered a pepperoni pizza, garlic twists and a thicc ass chocolate chip cookie to go. Estimated pick up time said 30-35 minutes when placing the order via Toast. Once it was placed it updated to 30 minutes out. 17 minutes later I get a text that it's ready. Now you may read this and think that's great, the order was ready sooner but No - The pickup scheduling resulted in cold pizza as I planned my short drive with the idea of the order being ready in 30 minutes. The coldish pepperoni pizza was still good. It's a good New York pie. Would I say it's the best New York style pie in Chicago like Dave Portnoy did? I doubt it! It's on par with Pizza Lobo. Again, no disrespect. It was just... average? The garlic twists were juiced up and absolutely fire. They came with 2 dipping sauces. One was an aioli and the other a red sauce. I wasn't a big fan of the aioli as it was pretty thick and overpowering. The other marinara was basic. Why is there any hype around the thicc ass chocolate chip cookie? It was honestly very dry and not even thick. Yeah chocolate chip cookies are generally good and this one is bigger lol but again, it was dry and left me disappointed. It doesn't look like the older pictures either. Skip it. All in all, I still left satisfied though. I may try them again in the future but we're talking a year out from now. It's small and cramped inside so it seems like most orders are via take out. More accurate pick up times may result in warmer better tasting pizza. I'm just saying. Zazas is here! A beautiful oasis for East Coast pizza lovers! Thank the pizza Gods! You can find some darn good Neapolitan style pizzas in this city, and Chicago style 'za has its time and place to shine, but when it comes to an NYC style slice this city is lacking. Enter Zazas. I've been twice now for a sit-down slice, so can't speak to their delivery experience yet. But WOWEE am I in love with what I've had! The pizza has that perfect textural combo of half greasy/cheesy/flopping apart and half foldable, crisp deliciousness. The basic pepperoni slice is super satisfying, and they have some elevated choices like the white pizza w garlic, whipped ricotta, basil and a sesame seed crust. They have this amazing hot honey that brings it to the next level- highly recommend trying that! I think the prices are reasonable for the high quality ingredients you're getting. I'm such a fan of thin crust pizza, and was so excited that there is a new NYC-styled pizzeria in town! Came here during their soft-opening I tried a slice of the white pizza (GARLIC, OLIVE OIL, WHIPPED RICOTTA, MOZZARELLA, BASIL, SESAME SEED CRUST) and the vodka pie (VODKA SAUCE, FENNEL SAUSAGE, BASIL, PECORINO), and both were absolutely delicious! The ingredients tasted so fresh and the crust was crispy and seriously cooked to perfection. I normally do not eat the crust to pizzas, but I ate every bit of it! The Mike's Hot Honey was a nice complement to the pizzas! Who knew honey and cheese together would work so well?! After a Cub game at Wrigley three of us were looking for dinner in the area before a drive home. Zazas wqs nearby and came with high recommendation. It was still relatively early at 4:45 pm when we arrived and able to grab a table. The small seating area quickly filled. We ordered the Gold Medal pizza and added sausage and mushrooms. The crust was thin and excellent. The toppings could have been increased a bit but were excellent. We also ordered the cheese curds. Which came with two sauces. They were a great leadoff for the pizza. There was lots of pickup traffic and I can taste why. Very tasty pizza with a good mix of cheeses and terrific choices of sauce. read more

I absolutely love their Margherita pizza. My partner and I have been on the hunt for a good NYC style pizza place since we're suckers for fresh mozzarella. And holy sh*t, I'm in love! I came here with my sister for their soft open. Zaza's will officially open on Fri Dec 3rd. Their New York style pizza is DELICIOUS. Slices are served piping hot. The crust is super thin with a crunchy edge and a chewy interior. I love how they have Mike's Hot Honey, which is chili-infused honey that's made in Brooklyn. Drizzle (*clap) this (*clap) stuff (*clap) on your pizza or dip your crust in this heavenly honey. The combination is to die for. If you are a crust-person, you will like this pizza. I could eat their crust on its own. If you are a pizza person in general, you will also love this place. I tried two types of pizza: pepperoni and white pizza. Their white pizza was chef's kiss, with garlic, olive oil, whipped ricotta, mozzarella, basil, and a sesame seed crust. Vegans, they got you covered here too! They have vegan salads on their menu as well as a slice of vegan pie called: "Bruschetta Pie." I cannot wait to come back to try their "Hot Soppressata Pie" or their "Vodka Pie" especially ordering the whole pie and having it served and artfully placed on a gigantic tin can of Alta Cucina whole and peeled plum tomatoes as a pizza stand. They are BYOB and also BYOS (bring your own sibling). My sister was the one who told me about this spot and so we came armed and ready with beers and hard seltzers, prepared to wind down after a long day over some 'zas and beers. TL;DR. It's exactly what you expect from New York style pizza with a borderline addicting sauce! The pizza is hand-tossed, thin crust, has a thin layer of sauce that's not watery or runny, gooey cheese, and you can eat it folded :) I tried a slice of cheese and a slice of pepperoni. Both were phenomenal, but the pepperoni slice was my favorite! Protip: add honey to the pepperoni pizza! It'll elevate you're whole experience! I think the flavor of one would have been a little overwhelming or boring, but having more than one was a great way to mix it up. To its defense it tasted like above average dough but that's about where the compliments end. The desserts were the worst part. Thick cookie tasted like a flour bomb with minimal sweetness as well as a mere hint of chocolate. I took my pizza to go & almost ruined my car's interior from all the oil drilling from the pizza. It's hard to find a place in the city that does slices!   I had the white pizza and the pepperoni pizza.  Both of them were amazing!  I love that they have Mike's hot honey on the side, so you can put that on any pizza you want.  The crust had the right texture and taste.  I normally don't eat crust on pizza and I ate all the crust on these slices!   The owner of the pizza place was very nice and hospitable. This place is also BYOB and it's so close to the brown and red line! There aren't many tables in here, but they do have a sit down counter so if you want to grab a quick slice, there's nothing to stop you! We came on an incredibly busy night (the city was celebrating st Paddy's) and the folxs there still had our pizza out fairly quickly despite how busy it was. The staff was really friendly and there was a mishap with our food that they immediately corrected and apologized for. I would say, this is definitely not a dine in place on a busy night. TL;DR - The best thin-crust pizza in Chicago I do not say that lightly, this pizza is by far the best thin crust I have had in this city. Now, before all the angry comments roll in, I will say this is not traditional tavern-cut Chicago pizza, this is NY-style thin crust. We stopped in on a weeknight prepared to wait, they were very busy with carryout but we were able to find a table for 4 and order the pepperoni pie. We watched them make and cook the pizza right behind us. When it got to the table it was still steaming hot. The crust had a garlic butter brushed over the top of it, it was crispy with no flop, the cheese and pepperoni were perfectly charred, the sauce was excellent, not too much. Nothing was overpowering, everything worked in perfect harmony. My only regret was that we could not try more slices, I definitely need to go back during lunch and do a few slices. OH!
