Oh my gosh, this is just the cutest and most comfortable place ever! We're driving back to San Diego from a road trip to Carmel and decided to get off the freeway and onto the coast route. How have I NOT reviewed Zebra House Coffee yet??? This is the real coffee shop in town - says me 33 that started my Joe days in the 90s; perhaps best in OC even - that I've seen. Cozy atmosphere with eclectic furnishings and a bookshelf for grabbing at... Outside seating available as well. The muffins are outta hand sick good! I really wanted a pancake stack this morning, and somehow this muffin delicately replaces that poorer flatter choice. Glad I came, here, again. And then there's the coffee. So owner jay starts telling me about different medium-roasted coffee... Perks my interest.. I get a pour over freshly ground, 93 point rated coffee in its still brown-not-black hue. Clean, the sips let in a mellow aroma, while a gulp gets me closer to a smokey campfire, never crossing the threshold to burnt, or even dark, but gently straddling the middle between bland and bitter.. So perfect right now. Loving life. Go. Here. Now. On second thought, stay away so I can keep it all to myself. No but seriously, support this local, awesome spot. Charming place, with a zebra theme. We had the chai latte and Mexican mocha. Chai was rich and flavorful, so much better than Starbucks. Mocha had the bittersweet, sweet, and spicy going on (dark chocolate and a hint of cayenne). Hubby thought it was best mocha he ever had. Restroom was extremely clean and smelled very pleasant. The furniture did looked worn but comfortable. I liked how there was a little table and chair for the kiddos. Very nice and chill place. read more

Not even close to being impressed with this place. Today was my 3rd visit, and I've decided it's just not worth the return trip. 1st Visit: coffee was weak and the girl at the register was more concerned with chitchatting with her coworker then actually focusing on the customer. 2nd Visit: We arrived at the store at 5:55 PM, only to be told that they were closed and would not be making any more coffee for the evening. Looks like they had started packing up the patio area well before this. Ok.... 3rd Visit (today): My latte tasted like I could've made it at home as a home brew coffee, my husband's almond milk latte tasted horrible and he did not finish it, and again the customer service at the counter was pretty horrible. The attitude here is just rude. We always try to find local places to support and give our business to, however we will not be back here and will not recommend. read more

I just picked up a dirty chai and a homemade banana coconut muffin from their drive-thru. Be prepared with cash, they don't take cards. Everyone, the owner included, was so pleasant. Stopped here as I drove South from Los Angeles to San Diego. I'm a fan of local coffee houses and this place has pretty good reviews on Yelp so I knew it was worth a try. As I walked up, I noticed a "CASH ONLY" sign so be prepared. Once inside, I liked the home-like atmosphere and I'm a BIG fan of random chairs/tables/furniture so this place really delivers on that for me. But a coffee house is about coffee, right? Well as I waited to order, I couldn't resist their muffin display and opted for a blueberry poppyseed muffin along with my latte. The cashier was quite friendly and offered to warm my muffin too. I enjoyed my experience here. The latte wasn't super fantastic but it was good and the friendly service made up for any of that. I'll stop here again on my next visit, that's for sure. read more

I've probably had some of the best coffee from this place. Zebra's coffee is more towards the strong side. If you are into Starbucks, you would enjoy Zebras coffee 5x times more! Some of the roasts are so good, that you don't even need sugar and milk. The pastries are really good and staff is very friendly. My only minor complaint, is that it doesn't feel quite home-y. Its not a big deal, considering that this place is still very new and still evolving. Its definitely the place to stop by when you're in San Clemente! read more

I often drive between San Diego and Los Angeles and San Clemente is almost always where I stop to stretch my legs and get a cup of coffee. I generally stop at Starbucks but decided to stop longer then normal today so that I could miss traffic and thought this would be a good opportunity to try out a local coffee shop. The employees were really friendly and prompt with my order. There was plenty of seating with comfortable chairs both inside and out. I ordered a vanilla latte and a key lime poppy seed muffin. Both were good but not great. There was a book shelf full of books which could be borrowed by customers to read during their stay. The bummer of my time was I happened to be there at the same time that an artist was hanging their art. The artist very nicely asked if I could move so he could hang his art. I moved to another chair but still managed to feel in the way. Also any chance of focusing on my book or my writing was out the window. They were very polite but it was definitely not the quiet time in the coffee shop I had been hoping for. I might suggest in the future that the staff arrange that new art isn't hung during business hours. read more

On the way back to OC, stopped by this cafe and got coffee and gluten-free muffin. The coffee was nice (just got plain drip), and a berry GF muffin ($3.50). The GF muffin tastes really good to me, soft and hot (it just came out of the oven), and not gritty at all. I really LOVE these GF muffins! (They have 2-3 different ones). If I need to get a coffee + snack, this is the place to go. Their parking lot is small, but it's next to Ralphs so there's another lot next to it. This is a cool coffee spot. I got the zebra coffee. Careful though they add a lot of syrup so it's very sweet. The drive is nice but parking is an issue, and the drive in can get backed up. Their drive in system could be more efficient. Their food is good too. $1.25 charge for a splash of oat milk is ridiculous. Costco sells 2 gallons of oat milk for $5, give me a break. read more

They have different house specials, but I always go with the zebra mocha with half the sweetener! The staff is always friendly and they also do have an outside patio for you and your dog!
