I've had a couple really good experiences here. The first was an electrical issue that was causing my taillights not to work. I know electrical issues can be a pain in the ass to figure out and fix, but they got it done that day. They also replaced a fan belt for me last weekend. Both times I have taken my car in on a Saturday and got it back that afternoon. Zepeda seems honest, competent and friendly. I'll keep going back. The only thing is that they tell me the car will be done before 5pm which is when they close on Saturday, but make sure you wait for their phone call to tell you it's ready, because it could be closer to 6. A few years ago I got an old Jeep. The first thing that went was the brakes. I brought it to a brake shop and just to get another opinion, took it to Zapeda. They caught something that the brake shop had missed, and I have stuck around since. When I moved to Albany Park, I started taking the Jeep to a 4x4 place only because it was closer to me, but they missed some details and I am now happy to be back with Zapeda. You don't realize just how important details are until your mechanic misses a few! Zapeda always treats me like a knowledgeable consumer, they give me the information I need to make a good decision without pressure. They have taken care of me time after time. I went to Zepeda because they were the one of the top rated shops on Car Talk's list and because they are in the area. The guys (guy?) at Zepeda was great with keeping open communication. My car is old and it took them a while to find out what was wrong but after almost a week they finally figured out the issue. Like I said the clear and open communication was great. The guy called daily, and ofter twice a day with updates. After finding out what the problem was I was given an estimate that was what I would have expected. In addition he also gave me a list of everything else that the car needed done but that wasn't absolutely needed at the time. When I went to pick up my car I was shown pictures of the issue and the old parts that were replaced. Overall I am very happy with the service. Clear, professional, honest and consistent communication made me feel that they were interesting in keeping me as a customer and not just trying to rip me off as I have experienced at other shops. So the car dies out of nowhere. I'm pissed. Who wouldn't be right? So I call Zepeda early that morning and explained the situation. I needed a tow and theyt took down my address and said a guy will be there soon. 20 minutes later the tow truck is outside. 10 minutes and the car is ready to leave, and then I start to panic about the price. Normally in Chicago you're going to pay at least $80 for a tow. Since we live within a few miles of Zepeda, the tow truck charged me $45! yes you read that right, $45! Not only that, I didn't have any cash (cash only) so he took the car to Zepeda and they paid him and just added his tow to the final bill. Fast forward, the car is fixed that same day and when I go to pick it up, Carlos ran down everything that was wrong, as well as what I should probably do in the future in order of 'nothing big' to 'oh shit do it soon.' Price? It was not bad, actually. The place wasn't dodgy looking at all either. I am very satisfied with Zepeda. read more

Meh. 2 stars because they are SUPER nice and helpful but man dropping my car off at like 830/9 told my car would be checked in around 930 and it would take about 1 hour to 1 hour and 1/2. Called around 1230/1245 because I haven't heard anything. Still working on it cool. Called AGAIN around 3 told it would be done by 330 and it was. But for 90$ for repairing part of a undercarriage shield and removing a rusted license plate screw / past tags. If I could do it all over again. I would keep shopping and not recommend this place. I will say again they are SUPER nice but the cost/ slow repair keep looking. Or maybe I caught them on a bad day. read more

Sooooo when was the last time you wanted to go buy your mechanics a drink and hang out with them? I'm guessing never. But you would if you brought your car here! I had a 2001 Ford Focus for years that started having a ton of problems as cars will when they have 170,000 miles on them. David and the staff at Zepedas always made sure I got it taken care of, did amazing work, always showed me the damaged parts they took off of my car so I could inspect them (even though I'm a girl and had no idea what I was looking at) AND made sure I didn't overpay. My car had several problems at once for a time and David would always walk me through which things needed to get taken care of first, and which ones could wait until I had a little more money. Oh and did I mention how amazing and nice they are? Seriously... I don't happen to live too far away, but David has driven me home when I dropped my car off on more than one occasion and I can honestly say I kinda look forward to it! haha! So now I have a (new to me) 2010 Volkswagon that I love dearly with an extended warranty, but for things not covered like Headlights, batteries, and other small things.... I wouldn't even CONSIDER taking my car anywhere else. And that weird noise that it started making when I hit a pothole, uhhh yeah they're looking at it as I write this. You rock guys, thank you for not making any part of servicing my car intimidating or overwhelming. Honest, dependable establishment. We go here for oil changes because of a groupon deal, but when that runs out we'll still use Zepeda. The staff is friendly, honest, and, most importantly, does not try to rip you off - one of my biggest pet peeves. As a girl, I definitely feel comfortable going here. Each visit the staff has been highly accommodating. They offer efficiency and quality. Can't ask for much else. Highly recommend. read more

I, like everyone else, dreaded taking my car in to the shop. Called on a Monday, they were booked. Dropped it off on Tuesday almost at closing. Had a call by about 11 am with the issue and 2 fix options with estimates. Next afternoon got the call that the car was ready for pick up. Did a little research and the price definitely seemed fair for the work done. They did an inspection and provided some thoughts on things that may need to be addressed, but did NOT try to sell me on extra services. Nice read more

I've gone here a few times for repairs. Last time I thought it was a bigger problem than it was, and it turned out to be a $28 dollar fix. They could have totally convinced me I needed a new alternator. Another time they took a picture of a bolt left in the innerworkings of the car by a previous mechanic, which was the cause of some crazy sparking and noise on a long drive. I've taken my car in here a good handful of times these past 3 years since moving in down the street and everyone is always really nice and they can usually fit me in at last notice. I've had them fix my brakes, fix a leaking gas line, replace a front axle and the list goes on. They could be better about calling me back though. I've asked them to check and see if there is anything else that I need to get fixed and they say they will call me back with an estimate and they don't. They also don't call me to give me an update on my car when it's been there all day long. I usually call at the end of the day and most of the time my car will be there for a couple days, which is totally fine but just call me and let me know. I brought my car in on a Thursday morning to have a brake inspection done. I knew I would need new brake pads and possibly rotors and told them as much when I stopped in. I also had an oil filter I needed to have installed. At about three they had finished with the inspection and broke down prices for all the parts (both vw and after-market) for me including labor and taxes. I needed to drive the car the next day - and after insisting it would be fine if I had to bring the car back another day have the work done - one manager and mechanic stayed until 8:30 that night to finish the job. I am so happy to find a professional mechanic blocks away from my house that I can trust. When I went to pick up the car they showed me my old rotors and explained exactly why they were not able to re-surface them. And did I mention they installed the oil filter for free? Just a few twists and some bolts - super easy... no charge! And they are super friendly! read more

I don't know a lot about car ownership, and they explain things with respect and no condescension. I would recommend them to anyone. With the cold weather, my windshield developed a crack. I called them after hours that night, and David called me back first thing in the morning and told me he could replace my windshield for $170 (parts and labor). Zepeda Auto service was the perfect shop to help get my brakes fixed on my vehicle before departing on a several-hour road trip back to Michigan. They were able to get me in the next morning and I was highly impressed with the Vehicle 360 Inspection they performed. Little did I know my car has also been having suspension issues. I was able to see the exact condition my vehicle was in with photos and additional information. This was immensely helpful in making the decision on what work I would like them to perform on my car. I was extremely happy with Zepeda repairs. I took my old city-friendly beater, a 1994 Toyota Camry there -- and it was in great need of some repairs. The service was fast, the gentleman who helped me was extremely cordial, polite, and explained everything that the car needed. He went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that everything was taken care of, including things he didn't charge me for (screwed in a piece of trip that was starting to peel off). Wouldn't recommend. Zepeda seems to be the epitome of a "me too" mechanic. I brought my car in for the brakes to be looked at and got a laundry list of things that need to get fixed. The car is 12 years old!! I'm sure the random belt you tell me to replace could use it but that's not why i'm here. My check engine light was on and they told me the fuel pump needed to be replaced (a somewhat expensive repair)... I was going to get rid of the car but drove it for the next 3 weeks while treating it with fuel-injector cleaner. When I took it to another mechanic they told me nothing was wrong. For some reason I decided to take the car back to zepeda a month later to get the fuel injectors cleaned out (regular maintenance depending on who you talk to.) Turned out the hose that's attached to fuel injection system might be malfunctioning, what a surprise ! Cheaper repair so I went with it. Car runs exactly the same. I think I was duped & I don't like getting duped so I won't be back to Zepeda read more

This shop does good work but will happily add insane amounts to the bill to unknowing customers. A friend recently had stabilizer sway bar links replaced. These are needed. They cost $30 for a pair and take 2 nuts to remove, about 15 minutes each if youre slow. Call that a half hour of time and $30 in parts for a total of $100. Zepeda charged $320. Even googling this shows an average cost of $100-$150. Double to triple for simple maintenance is ridiculous. For that you should just take your car to the dealership. They would do it cheaper. read more

HUGE PROPS for Nick at Zepeda Auto Repair!!!!!! Today, I was cleaning off my car and accidently locked my keys in my "running" car. I walked down Zepeda and low and behold Nick had an idea to open my car. He worked in the freezing cold until he got my car door open! Unbelievable service! Although he wouldn't accept payment, I'll be dropping off homemade cookies and a variety of beve's. This is in fact the second time they have helped me out in a pinch in the last two months so they earned a customer for life along with as much positive advertisement as I can given them. I've brought my own car to Zepeda twice (first time was a clutch.. second.. honestly not sure what it is yet), and brought my girlfriend's car there once (replaced the steering rack). These guys are great! Seriously the best experience I've had with a mechanic. They consistently quote me the lowest prices (a clutch cost me 300 less there than I was quoted at any other mechanic.. and I called between 15-20) and the work is great. Carlos is awesome to work with, and will take the time to make sure you understand exactly what they did with your car, and why. The only draw back.. and this is so minor in relation to all the bonuses.. Their not really good at calling you with status on your car. They don't do work without approval or keep you car past when it's done or anything.. but they'll be later than they anticipate with status... So, I've found that it's good to be a little proactive with the contact. Other than that.. I think this shop is the best I've ever found. I can't believe that I'm actually pleased to give an auto mechanic my business. read more

They were very professional, personable, and seemed competent enough for me to leave my car there and have the work done. I wouldn't say it was the cheapest deal in town, but certainly reasonable. Zepeda is great! They are fair, reasonably priced, respectful and truly care about their customers. I've been taking my 2008 Lancer there for a little over a year and am very satisfied every time I do. Without me asking, they showed me (literally in the garage) the work they did with my transmission and even had pictures on an iPad. Amazing place! Showed up without an appointment because my gas tank lid wouldn't open and by the time I figured this out and got there, I was running on fumes! They said they would try to look at it that day but might need a extra day or two to get parts and fix it. An hour later, they called to tell me it was fixed, no charge because the repair took five minutes and only required bending a piece of metal back in to place. This place is great... they found the time and made the effort to look at it right away even though I showed up without an appointment. They explained everything thoroughly and were super nice! read more
