What a great neighborhood gem! Indoor seating; some outdoor seating in front and an outside patio in back. Free street parking- can be tough finding a parking spot. Food is delicious. I came to Zingo Tacos for a lunch meet up and it definitely did not disappoint! The food was fresh and tasty. I absolutely love supporting family owned restaurants, and the feeling was so welcoming and authentic. I ordered the carne asada torta and it was so flavorful. We were staying at the Hyatt at Keck Medical Center and my husband had just been released from the hospital and had not eaten all day. He was starving and we searched and found Zingo Tacos. When we drove up to it, we knew we had found a pearl in middle of nowhere. The staff was so friendly and helpful and answering the questions, it was a parent at first glance this was authentic Mexican food. There were some things that I was looking at that were intriguing so I asked a lot of questions... Tlacoya! What was that? It looked wonderful. Well I'll tell you what it is!! Tlacoyo is hand made corn tortilla and it is thicker than a regular tortilla. And then they stuff it It was - filled with black beans, topped with onions, my choice of either red or green salsa, Queso Fresco and the option to add meat. I added chicken because I needed the protein. We ordered chips and guacamole, and the chips are homemade and they're thicker than store-bought chips, they were so good and their guacamole... Oh my goodness!!! You are a guacamole aficionado, don't forget to order this! I am going to tell you that my meal was to absolutely die for if it wasn't so big and so filling, I would've ordered another one My husband thoroughly enjoyed his dinner. Hell yes! OTMC helped me discover this place and I'm SO glad!!! I did the Tlacoyo w/asada, a pollo taco and pastor quesa taco. I waited outside while the food was being prepared. Lorena came outside and handed me an asada taco while I waited! O_O omfg this is better than walking bacon! But the best part is it was straight fire! Juicy and flavorful meat, and the salsas were perfect! My food was lovely. I think the pastor was my favorite, with the asada being next. I love the service, got an extra chicken taco too! The chicken was good and flavorful, I was just more partial to the pastor and asada. The tlacoyo was also delicious and filling! The Jamaica was perfect, not too sweet. El Pastor Burrito ALL THE WAY!! Good quality meat, absolutely STUFFED full burrito will hit the spot, and leave you happy and full. Service was SO fast, and staff was friendly and very warm, like walking into a traditional Mexican home and having a home cooked meal. Nice family-owned spot in El Sereno. Had their asada torta. Bread is high quality and the meat had a perfect amount of char. Nice amount of seating space, and all the employees there are all very kind. Parking is a bit difficult. read more

One of my favorite taco places near my house. Parking is easy, on the street. I love the carne asada tacos, chicken is good, but carne asada is my favorite. Prices aren't expensive either. Service is really good, they are all super nice. I usually like to sit in their back patio, but there is lots of seating inside as well. Would definitely recommend anyone to come here! read more

I would've taken pictures but I was so hungry and the tacos were THAT good. Got three al pastor, one steak with everything plus horchata. For once, the horchata was perfectly made and not overly sweet like everywhere else in town. The tacos were INCREDIBLE and the service was friendly and kind. I found this place when looking for an Al carbon taco. As I entered, you get a whiff of the mesquite/charcoal burning... and I imagined my tacos. I ordered one asada doradita, a taco each of asada, Al pastor and tripas (crispy). The tacos and doradita come with onion, cilantro, guacamole and red salsa (not spicy) and they are made with the small street taco tortillas. I started with the asada taco, my first impression was the meat didn't have much flavor other than the smoky taste and the other tacos were similar. The Al pastor was the most flavorful. read more

Wow!!! I am so happy I found this spot! Not sure if they have a parking lot but it seems street parking only. Luckily we found a spot right in front. Looks like a mom and pop shop. The front has a few high rise chairs in the front and then a cute outdoor patio in the back. It was empty when we got there so I was kinda hesitant and scared the food wasn't going to be good. We got the Al pastor burrito and the asada burrito with no beans. When I say it was delicious, it was DELICIOUS! So many flavors mixed in the burritos that I didn't even need any other sauce for dipping. We never tried this Jamaica drink before. Kinda bitter but loved the drink also. read more

Went by this afternoon to pick up dinner. It was late afternoon and the place was pretty empty. I ordered 5 tacos, 2 asada, 2 al pastor, and one de papas. the asada was pretty delicious and flavorful. The el pastor was also good. The potato taco was also flavorful. The reason I took off a star is because I think the price is too high for what you get. The tacos are pretty small and the tortillas do not seem to be freshly made. The tortillas were also pretty dry and tasted a bit off. I might try this place one more time to see if the tortillas are better. read more

The food was very delicious. My favorite were the tacos de asada and doraditas. The asada was the best I've ever tasted and I'm beyond picky. It wasn't chewy and thick it was just perfect! So good I enjoyed every single bite. The service was great, amazing staff and friendly. Lorena was very sweet and kind. Huge shout out to this place. Tonight, I had 2 doraditos and 2 tacos, 1 chicken and 1 papas of each. The chicken doradito was especially delicious. My husband had the carne asada burrito and a queso taco and was floored. I have to mention that while we were there tonight (crazy winds), the power went out, and the staff made sure everyone was taken care of. Really great service and food. One of the most delicious tacos I ever had! I was on Valley Blvd and noticed this hidden gem. So, I decided to check it out. I had ordered one carne asada burrito, carne asada taco, al pastor taco, and chicken taco. First off, the burrito was absolutely delicious. The meat had a right amount of smokiness grilled to perfection. It was tender and flavorful. The tortilla was the co-star of the show. Every bite was soft and chewy. Let's not forget about the supporting casts like the guacamole, salsa, cilantro, and onions. All were harmonious orchestrated in a beautiful symphony. Now, let's talk about the taco trilogy: Carne asada, al pastor, and pollo. My least favorite was the pollo unfortunately. I felt the pollo was a bit bland. But hey, kudos for the inclusivity. Carne asada and al pastor were the stars of the show. From the famous John Witherspoon once said, "so good make you wanna slap your own mama." Both carne asada and al pastor tacos were like two beautiful kids if the burrito had babies. Both of 'em smack! Last but not least, let's not forget about the honorable mention of Zingo's amazing customer service. One of the workers, LORENA, brought a complimentary carne asada doradita that was the icing on the cake. The doradita was fire! For those that don't know what a doradita, it is a fried taco. This doradita wasn't greasy nor bland. SUPER DELISH. I would certainly get it next time. But customer service was great especially with Lorena. She made sure my visit was pleasant. Check out this hidden gem! Food was exceptional and the ambience is cozy and homey. Don't judge the book by it's cover meaning don't let the small space fool you. This joint is bigger than you think. The restaurant has a large back patio. This would be a great spot to eat and hang out during a warm day or night with friends and family. Overall, my experience was fantastic. This place did not disappoint Friendly attentive staff serving up "THEM PLATES" I am a Vegetarian and they have a papas con raja's option and I got it in a taco and a mulita ....the taste is magical One of the best Vegetarian tacos I have had their salsas are great too they have in door and outdoor patio seating. This spot has been around for years and is a staple in the area. They have seemed to keep their consistent quality after all this time. Good to see a place like this get the proper renovations and upgrades it deserves. Tacos here are unique and are definitely one of a kind. The chef has been here for years cooking up mesquite charcoal asada. You really can't go wrong with anything you order here. I'd recommend the asada as it is what they are known for. One major tip if you are ordering from here is order ahead of time. Especially if you are getting it to go. If you come when they are even half busy you will be waiting at least 20 minutes to a half an hour. read more

I'm not much of a drinker though, when asked if I wanted to make my pina colada a "float" I thought incorrectly about ice cream. It was graciously explained that you take an additional shot of rum and float it on top of the drink or mix in to make it extra boozy. The pina colada is top notch they hollow out a real pineapple to make the drink and it's the size of your face! The watermelon cocktail was delicious and there is also a mezcal option. Tasted like if a watermelon aqua Fresca was combined with a margarita, there is a hint of salt that brings out the fruit sweetness. We special ordered a bunch of different proteins and vegetables at half portions to make a feast: Aguachile- Light refreshing starter, kanpachi perfectly marinated and great for the summer heat. The vibe in the place is welcoming and the restaurant is nicely appointed. We will continue to be regulars and it's really worth trying if you haven't been yet.

It was so good we found ourselves dipping everything into it. Both meals were served with rice that was perfectly cooked with a great consistency and flavor. For those feeling adventurous, give the Chapulines (grasshoppers) a try. They may sound intimidating, but they were surprisingly enjoyable and added to the authentic experience. The staff was exceptionally friendly, attentive, and patient with those of us who are not fluent in Spanish. Their hospitality made us feel comfortable and welcomed throughout our visit. One of the reasons I recommended Mirate is because it's known for being a highly rated modern Mexican restaurant with exceptional service and knowledgeable staff, especially when it comes to tequila and mezcal. Unfortunately, that was not my experience at all. Before ordering food, I asked our server about the differences between the mezcals and which flight they would recommend. The only explanation I received was, "It's just different families, so I'd go with the higher quality one." There was no real information or guidance, and it was obvious they didn't know much about the mezcal selection. I ended up choosing one based solely on what sounded best. We were then informed that the menu had recently changed and is now mostly tapas. That's perfectly fine, but I noticed several items from my previous visit were still available, so I figured I'd order a few favorites along with some new dishes. Most of the food was actually great. The ribeye tacos, tostada, and buñuelitos were all delicious. However, the carne asada was extremely disappointing. We only sent back one plate because I felt bad sending both, and that's when a manager (the gentleman with the man bun) came over. He explained that they have a new chef from Oaxaca, but what confused me was that they were serving Argentinian-style steaks as their carne asada. Instead of a traditional Mexican-style cut, it was thin, flat, and honestly looked like a breakfast steak. For a restaurant that prides itself on being a modern Mexican restaurant, serving Argentinian steak as carne asada just didn't make sense to me. To his credit, he removed both carne asada plates from our bill, which I genuinely appreciated. After that, he asked if there was anything else we'd like. I personally said no, but someone else at the table asked for one more ribeye taco. The manager replied, "You know what? I'll bring you one, and I'll bring them another too." Naturally, I assumed he was offering the extra taco as a goodwill gesture since I hadn't ordered anything else. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the bill and realized both tacos had been added to our tab. I wasn't going to argue over the price of a taco, but it was frustrating because I never asked for it. In fact, I ended up giving that taco away to my friends. If it wasn't complimentary, it shouldn't have been presented as if it were. Another thing worth mentioning is that while the carne asada portion has clearly gotten much smaller, the price remains exactly the same, which doesn't seem justified. Overall, my biggest disappointment is that there was no indication when making the reservation that this was essentially an experimental period with a new chef introducing major menu changes. Had I known beforehand, I never would have recommended Mirate for our dinner, and to be completely honest, I probably wouldn't have made a reservation at all. I only get two days off each month, so this was supposed to be something I could really enjoy. Instead, it honestly felt like a waste of my time and money. I'm sorry to say that while there were a few good moments, they faded very quickly. Unfortunately, the negative parts are what have stayed with me, and that's what I'll remember most about the experience. It's disappointing because I know how great Mirate can be since I experienced it just a few weeks ago. I truly hope they can regain the quality of food, service, and overall experience that made me recommend it in the first place . That's not theater; that's the way they've done it for years, and I loved every minute of it. The lamb dip was outstanding, just as I remembered. Add a crisp pickle, a side of coleslaw, and a Miller Genuine Draft, and you've got a lunch that doesn't need any fancy introductions. The sawdust on the floor may be gone, but the personality certainly isn't. Philippe's still feels like old Los Angeles. People share tables, strike up conversations, and enjoy a meal without anyone rushing them out the door. Then there's something you almost never find downtown anymore--free parking. That's worth mentioning all by itself. Could I explain why I'm giving Philippe's five stars? I suppose I could. But when you have friendly people like Elizabeth, a fresh lamb dip made right in front of you, reasonable prices, free parking, and more than a century of Los Angeles history, what more could you ask for? You may have seen this review, or a version of it, in one of the local publications I write for. I always pay for my own meals, and my opinions are my own.

The meat was juicy but I was left wanting more flavour in both the meat and the buns. I also wish the bottoms were a bit crispier. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to try their breakfast menu and other items though. Because peeking at the other tables they offerings looked delicious.

This taco place is such a great find! Not only are the tacos fresh and flavorful, but I love that they also offer bowls -- which is perfect if you're looking for something just as delicious but a little different. I loved their chips as well. The atmosphere is really nice and calm, making it a relaxing spot to sit and enjoy your meal. The outside decor is especially cute and inviting, giving it a charming vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. Another huge plus is the parking -- there's plenty of it, which makes stopping by easy and stress-free.
