Listen, we all know why we stop at Zippy's; it's probably a last minute dinner or cheap get-together, or the only place open. So when you're in the mood for food, you really don't notice anything else. But for the workers in here to deliver service with Aloha and the cooks deliver good food consistently is a relief and a blessing and really makes this Zippy's stand out from the rest. My only negative experience is that I never order the WunTunMin anymore because sometimes I feel like the temperature just isn't it, and I don't mess with food that nots kept to temp. Pleasantly surprised given this is a fast food chain! The chicken katsu was crispy while the chicken inside was nice and juicy. The katsu sauce they gave us with it was also yummy. Memories fade, y'know? Long ago, I seemed to recall Zippy's was the best place to get saimin in Hawaii. In fact, whenever I had saimin on the mainland, I'd immediately think, "Gee, I wish this was Zippy's". So of course, I decided Zippy's would be where Jamie W. and I should have our first meal. I have no recollection how many locations there were in Honolulu, and I don't remember which one we went to when I was a kid. Any Zippy's would do, right? Well, this location was the closest to our hotel, but it was still a fair walk. With several homeless people spread out on the sidewalk, this stretch of King Street was rather sketch. Anxious to walk in, we saw the fast food counter but didn't know there was a restaurant on the other side. Oh well, there was an open table anyway, and hell, it was cheap. Had a really great experience here, good food and super friendly staff. My mom and I came to Honolulu together and tried Zippys randomly and fell in love with the delicious convenient food. We tried two Zippys locations during our visit and this was our favorite. The young man who was our waiter was so nice and helpful I wish I could recall his name. We ordered the Zip Pac and Saimin. This past weekend, the family felt like Zippy's. Zippy's just reminds me of my childhood, eating zip packs, chili and rice, and all our favorites. We were feeling a craving for fried noodles! I believe our server was Harry yesterday evening. He was so kind and prompt. I had a Korean fried chicken with rice, Mac, chili (with beans) with cheese and onions on the side. It came as a recommendation from chef Aung. It was some of my most favorite pieces of meals place together in one dish! The chicken wasn't overly fried as I thought it'd be and there was a good amount of chicken one piece had some cartilage but that's ok too. Zippy is the equivalent of Waffle House. We waited about 30 min before being seated and the hostess who put our names down left after she put us in to a waiting room and no one knew we were in there. We came in was told there was about a 10 - 15 min wait. After about 20 min I went around and asked about our table and he hit us with "we're just so busy" with no indication of us getting seated anytime soon. looking around every other table was occupied. So we waited until someone else saw us and seated us immediately at one of the empty tables. The price was about $40 for 2 entrees and a side. Wasn't bad but wasn't good. The noodles had a weird flour taste and the wun tun itself wasn't soft like usually. It was like they had just dropped them in raw. The thing that was the most disappointing, was the day I was there, the daily special was teriyaki chicken, which my daughter got. She would not eat it. Majority of the time I do mobile online ordering just to ensure my take out orders doesn't have any mistakes as before you would call in the phone line, drive home to find certain things were missing or wrong. Still have to wait in long line to place order and wait for the food. I know now days you can order via App but choose not to. A Bit overpriced just like back then, but now I think it's highly because of the times. Back than in high school we could only order chili or fries because it was the cheapest. Been frequenting this Zippy's since the late 1990's; and they have definitely made a tremendous impact on me since ~2003. Our food came out relatively quickly and we dug in because we were starving. The spaghetti & meatballs were pretty solid -- nothing too crazy. It was just standard spaghetti & meatballs. Unfortunately -- the french toast was not that great and it tasted more like just regular bread than french toast. We tried covering it up with maple syrup but that did not do the trick. Fortunately, the spam & eggs that we got with the combo did not disappoint, but how can you go wrong with spam & eggs? Unfortunately -- my experience at Zippy's wasn't as grandiose as everyone said it would be, but it still wasn't bad. The food was good aka why this restaurant gets a 4-star rating. The service was a bit slow but I could tell it was because there were only 2 maybe 3 servers on the floor at the time and it was starting to pick up. You can have soup and it hits the spot if you're looking for a quick bite to eat. They offer so much! This place is SUPER busy though since it's right next to the tourist spots. Of course with my first time trying it, I got a Zip Pac (mini and am glad they offer that size as I don't eat too much) to have a combination of their main dishes and LOVED IT.
