Update on my review. Today 1-6-23 we had lunch at this zippy. 1st of all it was crowded and so was the parking lot. We sat down and the server came with the menus and ask us what we wanted to drink. We gave them our drink order and a different server came and ask us again what we wanted to drink. That's OK. Now for the order of the food I had my mini fried chicken plate and my husband asked for the Korean special plate he asked the server does it come with Korean chicken she said no comes with kalbi, hot dog and wunton. Just wanted to share our experience this past weekend after graduation...we were looking for a place to have a quick comforting meal, Zippys has always been that late night go to place. Well this particular weekend that did not happen, we went to McCully Restaurant and was turned away and told to go to Makikik. We were told "they only had one server and one cook and could not take us and there were 3 more people ahead of us". As we stood there we noticed only a handful of tables with patrons and majority or 75% of the tables were empty? The take out side had a loong line too? We proceeded to Makiki only to be told there was a 45 min wait and the could not seat anyone till the large party was done. Again many tables available including the former bar area. Hungry and frustrated we proceeded to the take out side (not a long line), and ended up waiting 40 min for our Ohana Pack? They said Ohana Pack takes longer than the plate lunches, they could have told us that when we ordered? Finally, got our food and went home. Honestly this zippys location is not bad however when we arrived at the restaurant side they didn't seat us right away. Someone did acknowledge that we were there but no one came to seat us for a while which was pretty annoying since they weren't very busy. When we were finally seated, we did get our orders taken pretty quickly and the food was served fast as well. I ordered a Korean chicken plate with bacon, over hard eggs served on top of rice. I haven't been to zippys restaurant in a really long time so I had never seen this option on the menu. A very disappointing meal. The place looked rundown and the wait staff were rather annoyed seeming. The place was too open for the lack of seating provided. Not to mention the subpar food. It was our second time dining in this popular Zippy's in the Makiki area. Our first visit our server was so friendly and helpful asked his name -my apology I should've taken notes of his name. Zippy's has extended their hours especially weekends at times long queue. The host very cordial checking in the names first come first in queue. He knows who came in the order too! As a Kupuna I had to sit on the bench he remembered that I was there before the crowd entered! This is the place to go for friendly and fast service. I've seen otherwise at another locale at times feeling like I've been scolded for asking a query to the hostess. I believe they were the first restaurants to put plastic partition on all of their booths. The staff was very thorough keeping the tables and chairs sanitized. My hubby and I were on our way to fly out of HNL airport and wanted something quick and local coming from Waikiki direction, so I just googled this location. We got there and learned this was a diner setting, so we told the server that we were in a rush for a flight and they totally understood, and was quick! We found out later on that there was a fast food entry on the other side of the building lol. It's very clean and cozy inside. Mine was tasty and had the basic island breakfast meat must-haves, and my husband said that was the best Korean Fried Chicken he had since we got there (and he had tons!). This review has been UPDATED on the bottom. Today, using the Zippy's App, I ordered 2 Dozen Malasadas, 2 Dozen Jin Dui, and Chili from the Makiki Zippy's for curbside pickup for a business meeting. I received an email Confirmation confirming the items ordered and that it would be ready for curbside pickup in 20-30 minutes. My credit card was charged immediately for the full amount of $62.81. Simple right? I have ordered Malasadas curbside many times from the Makiki Zippy's for meetings and it has been flawless. But NOT today. I arrived at Zippy's and received a text message saying my Order was READY! Perfect timing for my meeting in 30 minutes. I let them know I arrived. The curbside employee "Joy" who is an excellent, courteous, and gracious lady who has brought out my Malasadas curbside on many occasions was on duty and was bringing me my order. She arrived at my car with the Jin Dui and Chili only, without the 2 Dozen Malasadas. She explained that there were problems with the Malasadas. WHOA! I was able to Order the 2 Dozen Malasadas from the Zippy's App. I received a Confirmation for the Order. I was charged on my credit card for the Full Cost of the Order. I received a text message saying my Order was ready. BUT I only received HALF of my order. No Malasadas! I didn't receive any email or text message BEFOREHAND notifying me that my Order couldn't be completed. I only found out when Joy physically came to my car to inform me of the Malasada problem. That put me in a bind since my business meeting was in 30 minutes. That left me no time for any alternative. I left Zippy's without any Malasadas for my meeting. That was terrible! Other companies like Walmart, Lowes, and Petco let me know AHEAD of time with a text message or an email if an order cannot be completely filled. And they don't charge me the FULL amount on my credit card. That way I don't go to the store expecting the FULL Order and don't pay for something that I don't receive. I had to call Zippy's back 4 hours later after my meeting to seek a refund! UPDATE: 9:45PM - I just received a call from the Zippy's Makiki Night Manager and he apologized for the inconvenience and worked out a resolution.
