Best Mexican food on the coast. Everyone was so nice. The food took a minute, but it was worth it.

Cute breakfast place on Shell Beach. I got egg, sausage and pancakes. I did have to send my pancakes back as it was an over cooked on the other side but other than that it was nice and fluffy. Eggs was cooked to my liking medium and the sausage patty was huge and thick. GF got an egg scramble with cheese and dice ham and for her side she got country potatoes and refried beans which she enjoyed. Servers were all friendly. Stumbled upon Zorro's while checking out a craft event in the park nearby. There was a decent waiting list so I decided to give it a try. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive. A lot of the menu sounded good but I ended up getting a Cliffside Chili Burger. Honestly, I didn't love it. It tasted good but it was a mess. The bottom bun and burger were completely covered in bean chili and the top bun was cut in half; all of it was soaked so you couldn't eat it like a normal burger. I had to use a knife and fork and eat it like a casserole. Onion rings were good. I'll give it another try and get something a little easier to manage. read more

BUT (and, this is hard to believe) three years later and the three servers remained the same! Plus, two of them wagered they could recall our regular orders! My wife and I are on a trip for our first anniversary so we wanted to get something we wouldn't be able to find where we live. After debating we decided to check out Zorro's. We looked at the menu and decided to get the Shrimp and Crab Enchiladas. My wife has allergies to dairy and eggs, but they were able to accommodate her which we deeply appreciated. The food arrived and it has become my favorite item I've ever had at a restaurant. The crab and shrimp paired incredibly well with the sauce and cheese. Only a quick review here. Pretty good, about as expected. I am not particularly fond of standard Mexican food in this country, so I ordered a breakfast sandwich. It's a busy place, very lively, and people seem to have a good time overall. My breakfast sandwich was good - the bacon was perfect. Everything else at the table (French toast, etc.) looked really good. (My only thumbs down was that I asked for hot tea and got lukewarm water for tea. Even the replacement "hot" water wasn't really hot. But that's just how it is in a lot of places where the owners don't drink hot tea.) While visiting Pismo, clam chowder is an absolute must. My husband is a diehard fan of the quintessential café close to the pier, but I wanted to try something new. You wouldn't believe how much fun he made of me for ordering clam chowder at a Mexican restaurant. Zero regrets. Five stars simply because the clam chowder was BOMB. Super delicious. This spot was smallish, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Everyone here seemed friendly and the food came out fast. The cost is kind of steep but that seems to be the thing nowadays. Besides my legendary clam chowder, we tried: Zorro's Dip: An ugly duckling. We had thought this was going to be like queso fundido, but it was like a brothy, cheesy hot mess featuring both fresh and canned chilies. It tasted like a homemade recipe and I imagine it pairs wonderfully with a beer or two. Montana de Oro Taco Salad: A massive pile of greens, rice, beans, cheese, guacamole, and other fixings plus a protein. My husband tried it with their chile verde -- really succulent chunks of pork stewed in green sauce. The pork was pretty much the only part of this that made it special and that was after my husband doused it with hot sauce; it was very basic and kind of bland otherwise. From the moment we set foot in Zorro's we were welcome. The host even pulled out a chair for me. The coffee came immediately and we had the best breakfast ever! I highly recommend the hash browns. Been by here a bunch and always wanted to try. Went for dinner and happy we did. I had the steak fajitas on sizzling platter. I wouldn't call it steak just asada. The taste was good but meat left a bit to be desired. The side plate and flour totortillas were good. My wife had a chicken enchilada with gravy and it was just okay. They have a side patio with a heater in case it gets chilly which was nice Service was excellent and the menu has a great variety and we thought portions were good for the prices. Just not good. If you're from LA or TX (border area), prepare to be disappointed. The rice was dry and lacked flavor, the chile relleno was bland, and the tacos al pastor were off and cut in chunks with uneven flavoring. Waiters are a bit backed and seem to need some help. Definitely not authentic, but if you want "americanized" mexican food, this may work for you. Otherwise, stick to more local spots and little restaurants. read more

Came in for a to-go clam chowder. We had heard it was a better clam chowder than Splash Cafe, and it's true!! Best clam chowder we had in the central coast. It's chunkier, seems fresher, has way better flavor. We loved it! So glad we came. The service was quick. There was a little girl out front helping to seat tables, she was very kind and sweet. I don't want to leave a bad review as I believe this business cares about their service and I love supporting small business. With that being said, I also feel like this was pretty disappointing. We chose this place because we were in the mood for Mexican food but when I saw how robust the menu was, I probably should have ordered a soup, salad, sandwich or maybe even breakfast. To my dismay, the enchilada was very cold. As you can see in the photo the cheese wasn't even melted and the tortilla strongly resembled those you purchase at the store. From what I could tell, the tortilla was very cold as well. As for the beef taco, it was also subpar. The beef was very tough, cold and lacked flavor. The service was okay. Chips and salsa were warm and came to the table and our severs were satisfactory. They weren't great, or bad, just did their jobs which is fine! Again, I hope the best for the restaurant but am leaving this review for people like myself who are in the mood for Mexican food. My advice would be to maybe try something else they have to offer! read more

Like most beach towns, it's street parking. We went in for breakfast, we were seated quickly and attended with just as much speed. The coffee was hot and food was more than delicious. It's cosy and comfortable inside. For vegetarians, beware that the rice has chicken stock in it, but our host clarified and we got extra black beans instead. Zorro's is incredible! We were seated right away inside, our waiter and the rest of the staff were incredibly nice. The café has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We started with their complimentary chips and salsa, which was amazing and a great starter. For our entree we ordered some clam chowder bread bowls, chowder bowls, and a fish and chips basket. The chowder is the best I've ever had! It is perfectly creamy and the clam is the perfect texture. The sprinkle of paprika gives it a delicious bit of smokiness. Twelve out of ten! The fish and chips were amazing too! The batter was crunchy and the fish tasted so good, and the fries were nicely seasoned. We got there around 9am, parked at the parking alongside their building and there was no wait. A few minutes later there was a line. Phewww. We sat outside at the tent alongside their building. I ordered the Denver omelette with has browns and handmade tortillas! Omg soooo good. My bf ordered clam chowder with crab lumps. He said it was good. Very friendly staff and attentive to customers. Love this little cafe in Shell Beach! They have several outdoor tables with umbrellas for shade, as well as some indoor tables. Service is quick and friendly. The food came out hot and delicious! I had the Mesa Mexican omelette, one of their specialty breakfasts--sooo good! It had chorizo, onions, cheese and peppers! There's plenty of free street parking. They serve breakfast and lunch. Definitely a great place for breakfast--I'll have to come back for lunch soon! read more
