I was in the mood for a NYC bagel with lots of cream cheese, but that is not what I got. You can wait in line or order it online. I waited in line since I didn't know about the preordering option. It was bustling, but the line was fast. My standard bagel is everything, so I ordered it toasted with egg, veggies, and cream cheese. They might have toasted it with the cream cheese on it because it was all melted when I walked across the street to eat it in the park. Enjoyed breakfast to-go from Zucker's while in town and the place was bustling at 9:30am. My husband had a bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Said he would rate it 5/5. It was better than the bagel sandwich he had the previous day from Liberty Bagels. We also had the potato latkes, which were yummy and cooked perfectly. I did see online that they were topped with a sauce which I was looking forward to but was surprised that they came to us completely dry. I ended up smearing some of my extra scallion cream cheese from my everything bagel to make it a little less dry and add to the flavor. I wish they had been a little bit hotter too but in all fairness, we did delay our first bites by maybe 10 minutes from our walk back to the hotel and to grab a coffee some place else. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and some of the best I've had! Staff was sort of straight to the point, no one smiled. They were busy and just moving folks along was their main focus. Right across the street from our hotel, it was a great first stop for the day, fueling us for hours of walking around the city. We went late morning, so there wasn't a line to order. It took me a second to figure out the process of ordering, and taking that paper they give you to the register right away to pay. Good place to get a bagel and coffee in midtown manhattan. Being still on Pacific time, we started our day a little late on a Thursday morning. By this time, the before work crowd had already come and gone, but this bagel shop was still pretty crowded. One places your order for food in a far left queue, wherein you are then given a charge slip. Then you come back out to the cashier where she is constantly yelling for someone 'next' to come and pay. You would do so, and at the same time order any caffeinated drinks. For the two of us, we split a bagel with plain schmear (bagel with plain cream cheese for $4.75) and small iced latte ($5.25). The plain cream cheese sandwich (called this on my receipt) comes through the assembly line and took a bit of time (10 minutes or so). The latte was prepared separately by the barista working in front, and actually came out faster. We got lucky and found seating for four inside, most folks just take their food and go. My husband and I stopped by Zucker's last month during a long weekend in NYC. It can get crowded, but the system is very orderly and doesn't take long. The bagels we had were great. Great food, but the last two times we went there they got our takeout orders wrong. I asked for a sesame bagel with salmon and a poppy with tuna. Both came with poppies. A small error. Delicious NYC bagels near Bryant Park--Bagels are traditional NYC style: shiny crust on the outside, soft on the inside and chewy! My most recent visit I got a baker's dozen (13) of assorted bagels plus 1/2 lb scallion cream cheese and 1/2 lb plain cream cheese. Everything was tasty and as expected. This Zuckers is cute, clean, and well organized. The mouthwatering smells are free and grace your nostrils when you walk in the door. There is some seating available but might be tight for larger groups. I came on the weekend and it wasn't too busy, so service was fast and ordering was easy and smooth. Line was pretty long, almost to the door when we got there just a bit after noon, but moved fast. The menu display is not great and actually pretty hard to reach so I ignored the menu and just told the person taking my order what I wanted in my bagel sandwich. One bagel ended up being the Flatiron essentially with capers added in. Solid everything bagel. The salmon tasty and they do give a healthy amount of scallion schmear. Ordered it with tomato but they missed it. The other was a pastrami salmon with capers, onions, and tomato and of course after I paid, the gentleman that took my order told me they were actually out. I came to New York a bagel lover, and I leave a saddened bagel sandwich enjoyer who's realized that they can't quite find these bagel sandwiches anywhere else with that particular brand of fast but delicious service. Yes bagel sandwiches exist almost everywhere else, but where else can I find a bagel store on almost every street, all with the same, amazing quality? I got the Traditional, obviously. While I don't particularly enjoy cream cheese, I do enjoy smoked salmon, and the fact that this sandwich comes with tomatoes, red onions, and capers makes it that much better. Our order was fulfilled at a normal pace, considering that there were a few other people in the small store. The bagel decorations were interesting, especially since we realized that they were indeed real and probably stale bagels, or at least that's what they seemed like. For a quick stop, Zucker's is perfect. If you're willing to spend more time and effort, there might be better options, but you can't knock convenience. read more
