This place was the best sushi restaurant Ive had in VA. I've been here for 6 years and I'm surprised I never came here before. The waiter, Michael, was kind. He checked on us regularly and made sure our water cups were always full. We didn't really get an explanation on the menu, but we didn't need it because it's just like any other sushi restaurant. The hostess was also really kind, but I didn't get her name. The appetizers were good too. The beef tatki (i may have misspelled it) was AMAZING. The beef was so good, especially the ones that were cooked rare to medium rare. I almost ate the whole plate by myself! The spicy edamame was also super good. It didn't have a strong kick of spice, but it had just enough for you to keep wanting more. They were also cooked/steamed perfectly. I wasn't the biggest fan of their gyoza though. I think it could've been better. But this place killed it with the appetizers. The quality of the fish were incredible. I loved their salmon. I'm a huge salmon fan and this place is seriously the best in VA near virginia beach area. The other fish like tuna, yellow tail, etc were also really good. Their mochi ice cream comes with two (4 slices). I had the matcha flavor because they were out of strawberry. The other choice was red bean. We stopped in here for dinner on a Friday night on our way to a comedy show. We had reservations but when we showed up at 5:30 there was almost nobody there, so I'm not sure reservations would be necessary if you are in the area and hungry for sushi. My friend had a get together here-about 10 of us-on a Monday night and they easily accommodated our large group and even cut and served a cake for us. Ray was super friendly and welcoming when we came in, and the service was flawless. We ordered sake and he even made a recommendation, and gave a sample of, the hot sake mixed with plum wine(which was the BOMB.com) The FOOD was SO good, and really well priced for such fresh and authentic sushi. Our second visit here and it was completely worth the return. The food has improved. It was all fresh and tasty. The bibimbap was excellent with an well balanced flavors. The ribeye was tender leaving me wanting more. The egg was over fried. The grilled octopus and sashimi salad were delicious. Ramen and Gyoza were good although the Gyoza sauce was bit too sweet. The service was good. The atmosphere was fine. The owner had time to stop by our table to ask about the food and genuinely cared about the input. Excellent fresh sushi. Beer was ice cold, seaweed salad was fresh with a bit of a kick. Unagi was sauced perfectly and very tasty. First and for most, this restaurant follows COVID safety regulations to a T. Walking in, you can either take a picture of the menu or scan the barcode on your phone. All members of the staff were wearing masks, hand sanitizer was provided, and a nice touch (no pun intended) was that our server was great at making sure there was very little physical contact. Been here a total of 5x since they've opened and I'm surprised it hasn't been more because they are always soo on point! I always get the tuna tataki as an appetizer and it never disappoints. Shared with 2 other people. I love how there's seaweed salad and pickled cucumber along with it. After not eating the whole day, I then ordered a spicy ocean roll, Christmas tree roll and a kimbop roll. Everything was amazing and tasted fresh. The prices are not bad for a restaurant in town center and eating fresh sushi from here is worth it. I love how they also offer Korean dishes here as well! So this is my fourth/updated review of Zushi Bistro... what can I say? This place is AMAZING. Seriously, some of the best sushi I have ever had to experience in my 31 years on this planet. Is the sushi here expensive? Yes. But you get what you pay for and you get high quality sushi with exceptional presentation and creative flavors in every dish and bite. I would highly recommend the Omakase experience at $60 per person. If you're adventurous, I would highly recommend taking this route as it's at the chef's discretion to serve you specials of the day. You literally just sit down and you don't get a menu and he serves you what he sees fit that day. Food is still delicious when we have had take out a few times during the Pandemic! This is also one of the few sushi places in Coastal VA that has toro, ebi, or even uni which are all very good here. Can't RAVE about this place enough! I'm a big fan of Uni (sea urchin) and I know it might be sold out since it's hard to get in the area, but I thought I'd give it a try. I booked a table for 3 at 7pm and we didn't get seated until 7:30. That was already a bummer cuz why book a table when I still have to wait for 30 mins to get sat? Anyways, we sat down and I asked our server if they have Uni, which he said yes, so I was like cool and I will order it later when we finish looking for other stuff to order. Couple minutes later the server delivered the sad news, the Uni JUST sold out. I wasn't mad at the server or the fact that good stuff can be sold out, but I'm mad about the fact that the Uni JUST sold out, does that mean if we were sat at 7 instead of 7:30(like what my reservation stated) we would've gotten the Uni since it was JUST sold out? I overheard the couple sitting close to us were pretty upset because of the same reason. They booked a table ahead and wasn't sat until a while, and the wait time for the food and drinks were slow too, which made them waiting for even longer. At that point I wanted to go across the street to have some tacos at Quirks but my company already had some dishes in mind so I was like whatever, just get the Galbi that I meant to order as a appetizer for share as my course and Imma get going. The Galbi was good and that might be the only thing that went well. My boyfriend ordered a miso soup as his appetizer, and it took like 10+ mins to be served. It wasn't even hot and it tasted watery. He ordered some sushi but I forgot what they were cuz I was just thinking about how much better my night would be if I could just leave this building, but he said he liked his sushi, but nothing particular special or good, and he said it's no different than going to a cheaper place. My mom ordered the seaweed salad, salmon hand roll sushi and eel sushi. The seaweed is really nothing special but the amount is generous. Salmon roll sushi is actually pretty good as the 2 pieces of salmon are sashimi size. However, she said the eel was average. While waiting for the food, which was almost 45 mins, I decided to get the soft shell crab roll. It was alright but not the best I've had. We were talking a lot so we didn't look at the time but the wait time for food was pretty outrageous when we realized it. I overheard the ladies sitting next to us were complaining the same thing about the wait time, and they were starving. The whole experience was just not decent. Overall, the food was average, the wait time for food was ridiculous, and the booking system was broken. If the restaurant confirmed with the customer about the booking, a table should be reserved, and we shouldn't have to wait for more than 5-7 mins to be sat. The biggest issue is that it's not an isolated situation too since the other couple was complaining the same issue. And many times things are just gonna go downhill when it had a bad starting. Food just tasted worse when customers are upset, let along the food wasn't even that good for the price. The server was nice and tried to suggest me other sushi but I wouldn't come here if I just want something that are sold at other sushi places with cheaper price. I don't think I'll be coming back even for the Uni since Daikichi in Chesapeake sells them too, and certainly with less wait time and lower price. read more

We went with a group of 12 and our host said let the chef manage the table This can be a disappointing night or a memorable one and I was not Sure which one we were in for that evening The chef kept sending plates to the table appetizers small plates and ultimately rolls. I was not sure what to expect as the food kept coming and coming! The chef came out and checked on us a couple of times to make sure we were enjoying it and the food was absolutely wonderful. It had a wide variety over the course of the evening with different fish and meat selections and different ways of preparing both At one point we indicated we were nearing the end in the shop slow things down finishing off with the desserts for the table that was just perfect Total bill for the Evening was around $600 before the tip and I was amazed at both the quality and quantity of food that had come out that evening for that price I would not hesitate to go back there with a small group or a large one knowing that the chef has a wide range for pallets, some that were Sophisticated and others that were still developing! read more

I haven't been here since moving to Florida but this place definitely deserves a review because its my favorite sushi place in the Hampton Roads. It was also the first restaurant I went to after lock down. First of all, don't let the name fool you like it fooled me. Because this place is located in Town Center and is called "Zushi Bistro" - I had preconceived notions that this was an "Asian-American fusion" type restaurant. I lived in Japan for half a decade so I tend to stay away from "fusion" because I truly enjoy Japanese food as is. That said, I've enjoyed Zushi during every visit. The sashimi is incredibly fresh. The udon noodles are packed with that good umami flavor. It's covid friendly, clean and just a really delicious place to eat. It's definitely pricier than going to an AYCE sushi joint but it's worth it. It's so worth it. There isn't one thing I don't like about this place. The service is solid too. I'd make a reservation before coming in as well. While I was still living in Virginia, it was definitely reservation only in order to stay within covid guidelines so I'm not sure how it runs now but I'd still make a reservation anyways. read more

Very nice Sushi and Japanese place tucked away a block from the mall. I was dining alone and it was during the week so there was no waiting for a table. They have regular table tops as well as seats at a small bar and maybe a dozen seats right at the sushi bar. Large selection of sushi and sashimi along with some other traditional Japanese dishes, like Teriyaki and Tempura. I was more in the mode for ramen so that is what I ended up getting along with some spicy edamame and some gyoza. There was only one ramen option but it was very good and a decent portion. Everything was delicious. Great server as well. Just enough attention and very pleasant. I will definitely be back to try other things on the menu. read more

I have been many weekend nights, that they even recognize me. It is always a pleasure. Sushi City vibe, cool music and super clean located in Town center. They are very gentle and polite. Normally I go with my husband, but I have been in business meetings and with some friends. They know how to make good and quick sushi. Normally I ask for some basics like yakisoba and pink lady (it is not very basic, but I always order it), and check the specials menu for some extra quality fish as Toro or amazing Lobster. When I have extra space, I go with green tea mochi for dessert. During covid, I ordered for pick up. They are always on time. Highly recommend, love their sushi, service and the place! read more

This place is laughable, the drinks, the seating, the wait time, the waitress, the FOOD. My husband and I were craving sushi and the ambiance looked really nice on yelp and IG. We waited over an hour for two "Big rolls" that were about 6 bite size piece. One roll was deep fried but came out soggy, so you know it was sitting in the back. The Mt.Trashmore roll is a sad excuse for a California roll with some salmon pebbles on top. We ate one bite, paid the bill and left the food on the table. Great sushi place within walking distance of my hotel. I always need to get some sort of sashimi when I go for sushi. Here I got the Chirashi which came with a choice of salad or miso soup. I went with the salad. I love love love ginger dressing so yeah, salad for me. Real basic, but good. Veggies were fresh and the dressing was what I was expecting. The chirashi is sashimi on a bed of sushi rice. This one had some pickled vegetables as well. The rice was great sushi rice, a little sweet and cooked well. The pickled veggies included ginger, cucumber and squash (maybe??? not sure), all good. The wasabi was a good quality. Strong and smooth. There were two pieces of Tamagoyaki (japanese omelet thing that's a little sweet). I'm never a fan of this or really any egg really (so don't take my opinion on this part into account). I did eat it so that should mean something. Now the fish. It tasted super fresh. The tuna had a beautiful coloring, the salmon was marbled well (can fish be marbled? Well it is now). In addition there was white tuna, shrimp and two other fish but I can't recall what type. Regardless all were great with tuna being the king of the dish. read more

Just moved to Norfolk/VA Beach and I think I found my new favorite sushi joint. Nothing really bad to say about it. Made a reservation and the table was ready right when we showed up. The atmosphere was pleasant and the food/drink was fresh and good. I think the best thing about this place are how reasonable the prices are. Overall very happy with this place. Only reason I'm not giving it 5-stars is inconsistent seating practices. We showed back up after our first experience without a reservation. They said it'd be a 45 minute wait and they couldn't seat us at the sushi bar (which was empty). That was interesting because the previous time we visited there were people seated at the sushi bar. Anyway, overallI will return. I just recommend making a reservation if you want prompt service. read more

The location in town center is nice and the ambience of the restaurant is chic but relaxing. This last time, I ordered their specialty soup (I usually always get miso soup) but opted for a change. I'm so glad I did because it was delicious with the spicy broth, crunchy carrots, and soft gyoza-like dumplings! Yum! Tempura is classically done and sushi is delicious! If you like spicy mayo on your sushi, theirs is heavy on the vinegar. If you like fried rolls, they only have 1-2 on the menu. She always made sure everything was okay. Explained the drinks to me, and made sure everything was perfect for my friend's birthday dinner. They even gave him a lovey birthday crème brûlée!!! I have a soft spot in my heart for Zushi. As a person who lives in the vb town center, I have the ability to walk here from my apartment. Having this high quality sushi spot so accessible is dangerous for my wallet. I try to limit my visits to once a month because I like to go all out with the meal selection. If you go to a sushi restaurant, you should absolutely eat sushi. The chef's sushi dinner is fantastic. I usually order gyoza and kalbi to share for appetizers, with a large Sapporo to take sips between bites. I use Zushi to treat myself, as I'm sure many other people do. read more
