Skip the overpriced boardwalk restaurants, 21st Street Grill is the only restaurant you'll need on your vacation. Service is polite and fast, food is hot, well seasoned, and fresh, and the indoor and outdoor seating areas are clean. Food: We ate here 2/3 days of our weekend vacation in March. Between me and my boyfriend we got the Chicken Gyro Shawarma, Gyros, Coconut Shrimp Basket, Funnel Cake, and Fried fish baskets. I also ordered a virgin Piña colada. All of the portions were large, and nothing on the menu is over $15. No automatic gratuity. Its counter service, not table service. The lamb in the Gyros were well seasoned, very large, and adorned with Vegetables. The tzatziki is the perfect blend of spices and herbs, the lemon and garlic helping to lighten the heavy meats. The chicken was very juicy and also well seasoned. The coconut shrimp was not deveined so if that bothers you stay away. It was also a little salty which is fine, I just prefer sweet Coconut shrimp. It came with a warmed pre-made people in fktail sauce that was actually very delicious. The fried flounder pieces were a little small but overall flaky and juicy while crispy on the outside. Everything came with a heaping of piping fresh crinkle fries with season salt which were divine. The funnel cake was the perfect mix of crispy, fluffy, with that signature slight oily crunch towards the top. They give you a liberal sifting of powdered sugar with is PERFECT. The piña colada was the best one I had It was very creamy and decadent. They do offer alcoholic beverages and fountain sodas (coke products) in one size, but refills are free if you go up to the counter. They do also sell standard american grill food. Burgers, cheesesteaks, fried or grilled chicken sandwiches, and hotdogs. They also sell wings, jalapeno poppers, mozz sticks, salads (a chicken and greek for any vegetarians). They also have deserts for $9 with the choice of funnel cake or fried oreos. There are no kids meals, but they do offer 2pc corndogs, chicken nugget baskets, and chicken tender baskets for $10-$11. With the portions so large 2 bigger kids or 3 smaller kids could easily split one. Service: Service is fast, polite, and efficient. If you're wanting long smalltalk or pleasantries you won't find it, but I believe that only contributes to the efficiency. They run their restaurant like a well oiled machine. Even when there were 4 groups in front of me (one being a family of five), and only 4 employees, the wait was no longer than 10 minutes and my food was still hot and fresh. Atmosphere: We have gone in the afternoon and evening. Its definitely more busy in the evening, so it can be a little crowded and indoor seating sparse, but service and quality is not affected at all. Whatever old reviews were calling it dirty, it is anything but now. Both the inside and outside are kept very tidy. When it gets busy there may be a fry or two on the ground by the tables, but it is certainly not dirty. They have two large public restrooms 4 wheelchair accessible tables inside, and about 8 tables in a covered outdoor seating area (also wheelchair Accessible.) They also have AC and fans which feels wonderful on a hot day. If we come back to Virginia beach, we plan on just coming to this restaurant only. If you want consistent, reliable, affordable, delicious food, 21st street grill is the place for you. read more

Philly Cheesesteak: My first Philly cheesesteak ever and it was pretty mid. I only finished half because I was oddly full? The bread had no flavor itself and just absorbed the meat and cheese flavor like a sponge. The fries were soggy and stale af. It looked like there was Cajun seasoning on the fries but it wasn't infused whatsoever and still lacked flavoring. Wings: While my meal was lacking in flavor, this one was too salty. We purchased meals from this place twice in our 2 day stay in Virginia Beach. It was across the street from our hotel & it was one of the few places open past 9pm. Dirty tables Unfriendly employees! Sure it's conveniently there at the corner when my family is is need of an cool break but this place was just a total miss. It was crowded inside and I couldn't understand why other than it was just a hot day and people were too tired to walk any further which was the case with us because we had guests who aren't used to the beach heat. The food was so bland! Ordered a chicken Schwarma pita, corn dogs, chicken sandwich and it was all below average. The chicken pita was so sloppy, way too much sauce and it didn't take like anything, nor even the pickles had a taste. It was just a wet tasteless glob of food. I saw this restaurant while driving by and thought the kebab and rice looked appetizing, so my son and I came back the next evening to give it a shot. I should have passed based on the reviews. They were a bit over priced, especially considering the chicken kebabs were dry and the rice was just okay. I spent $31 for two Chicken Kebab dinners, a diet coke and a bottle of water...actually tipped $5 and had to pay $5 for parking, so I basically spent $41 total. I knew I was in trouble when I walked in to the woman tapping her order book on the counter and rolling her eyes like I interrupted her. It was confirmed when she pulled a par cooked (partially cooked) burger out of the food warmer and slapped it on the grill. I should have told them to stop and got our money back. I went here my last day in Virginia Beach on vacation. If I could rate it a zero I would! I wish I would have looked around better before my family and I ordered food. The employees were unfriendly and looked very miserable. Our table was filthy so I told the worker he came over with a dirty rag and spray wiped the table off. After I was given my cup to get something to drink I went over to the pop machine went to get ice and noticed the plastic around the dispenser had black mold growing in it.
