A long night and short morning at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, we were faced with the daunting decision of breakfast/lunch, when we happily remembered this restaurant by the hotel entrance. Seated by the tall, well-worn boothes, the giant mirrors and aged wallpaper made for a great setting for a horror movie (the whole hotel had that vibe). The service was attentive (although occasionally combative with themselves). We were there for burgers, and the options looked enticing - five "numbered" burgers and a build your own option with a lot of interesting options. I chose the number one - carmelized onions! bacon! gorgonzola! thousand island! The burger came out, looking beautiful. A tall bun (which mushes down easily, thankfully) and a large patty, with the toppings and sauces mingling inside. That first bite was heavenly. Sadly, the other bites didn't match up. The toppings started falling off, revealing a sparsely-to-non seasoned patty. The sauces, while tasted great, gushed down the plate, my arm and down the table. The burger, while juicy, was not pink at all for "medium rare". The bacon, while tasty, was chewy to the point of tough. Consensus among the table was while the burgers looked great, they just didn't deliver, especially for the price. The biggest (only) hit of the meal were the sweet potato fries - light and crispy, big enough for two or more people to share. read more

25 Degrees is in the heart of the hollywood tourist area in the front of the Roosevelt Hotel. The decor is on the swanky side, dark red high back curved booths, and there is also a long bar. The place is smallish and doesnt have much seating, but this is LA and it fits right in. We ordered drinks that were heavy on drink mix and light on alcohol. We both ordered burgers and onion rings and sweet potato fries on the side. The portions were large and the food was deliscious. I throughly enjoyed the #3 burger. The staff was friendly and helpful. If you are doing the tourist thing and find yourself in Hollywood, this is a good place to grab a bite and recharge. read more

I went back to 25 degrees a few weeks ago, and they don't make their own veggie burgers anymore! They use the vegan grillers from Morningstar . So the burger is still $10 for a vegan patty that anyone can buy from Trader Joe's, same price as the meat eaters. I was sooo disappointed. But they do heap on the sweet potato fries so I gave them another star. I am so sad because they were my favorite late night veggie burger place. :( read more

K so I've tried the one in Huntington Beach, and long story short, I was disappointed. The order got wayy mixed up, and the flavors just weren't like BAM in my mouth. Decided to give it a second shot, and since I was going to be in Hollywood anyway, I wanted to see if that last visit was just a mishap. Plus, my friend adores this place, and his review says this one's even better than the Huntington Beach one :P Anywayyy, we got a bite to eat around 2pm on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy, the server was attentive, and the manager was walking around refilling our glasses and checking up on guests. Unfortunately, they didn't have any taps at the time, and the guy said they were broken. Oh welps. I had the number 3 the first time I went and tasted the number 1, so this time I decided to build my own with a fried egg, avocado, and gruyere. Unfortunately, the burger still didn't surprise me. I think it takes more than a huge patty of meat to be an impressive burger--I look for a patty bursting with flavor, and ingredients that don't mush together, but come out individually too. The huge patty, although cooked correctly, had no flavor whatsoever. I couldn't taste the gruyere, the avocado, or the egg, surprisingly. They kind of all just ... mushed! Sad, but the sweet potato fries definitely WERE a lot tastier than the ones from Huntington. This creative hamburger restaurant is right off Sunset Blvd across from the Chinese theater in the Roosevelt hotel and s open 24 hours. It has a lot going for it. The fries are among the very best available in Los Angeles/ They are thin, shoestring with some skin. They made an excellent choice of rosemary as a spice (everyone else uses garlic and truffle oil) for the fries and have several dipping sauces available from hamburger menu. They also have some very good sweet potato fries available but they are slightly thicker and less crispy. read more

Surprised. First, it's located right in the heart of tourist zone. Second , the menu revolves around burgers, which usually says "plain" to me. But there's nothing touristy or plain about this hideout (it's in the Roosevelt Hotel, and there's no sign on the outside to direct you). You build your own burger from a list of everything-looks-killer stuff (bold and exotic cheeses, gourmet toppings and killer sauces), which can be dizzying, and it is, but you'll probably end up with something awesome, I believe in you. I loved this place, but the one thing I couldn't get pass was the location. Why is it located right on Hollywood Blvd.? This is definitely not a prime location to me, especially with all the tourists. We spent a good 15 minutes circling around all the traffic, trying to find a spot, finally finding a spot, and paying $5 to walk a block over. It's not a dealbreaker, but judging from the reviews, I think a lot of Yelpers share the same frustration... On to the food! I had #3 and it was delicious. It had a roasted chili pepper and avocado. I would put this near the top of my burger list, around Umami's. I think taste-wise both are delicious, but I do like the portion size a lot better than Umami's. I took some home for a midnight snack. :) I also liked the fact that my order came with a side order of fries, which were pretty tasty too. I've come here close to 5 times (when friends suggest it), and have been disappointed each time with their burgers. Everything else on the menu is pretty good/decent, but since this place is known primarily as a burger joint, then I shall review their burgers! My first gripe is their buns- there is just simply too much of it. If you cut the burger in half and look at the innards, you will see 80% bun. The beef patty is meager and not fat & juicy (like the counter or fathers office). They always overcook the beef- we ordered medium rare but it came out dry and no hint of pink. Their most popular burger (#1- bacon & caramelized onions) is just not that good. I just happened to be in the area catching a movie at the TCL Chinese Theater and wanted a quick dinner. Came upon this restaurant. So 25* apparently is the temperature between a raw and fully-cooked hamburger. Their burgers are large and pretty good, not the best I've had, but decent. I also had a root beer float (awesome) and a half-and-half of sweet potato fries and onion rings. What sets this place apart is the ambience, which has a chic dark Victorian feel. I sat at the bar, which was spacious and not at all awkward. The service was fantastic and the food came out within 10 minutes. I tried Burger No. 2, and Burger No. 4. We came a bit earlier than the crowd and there was plenty of space but it filled up around 7pm even midweek. Keep that in mind. Our waiter was a bit slow in taking our order (and then again later in giving us the check, and then again in returning with the bill to sign). However, between the two of us, we had one #2 - this is a burger and your choice of fries, sweet potato in our case by choice; and one burger without a bun. I know it's a strange request, but my diet at the moment required it. I thought the burger was good, but nothing spectacular and a bit overcooked to boot. I like the option to build your own, similar to the style of The Counter, but in a bit nicer atmosphere. Definitely an easy choice for the H&H area, with parking across the street for $2/4hours and validation in the H&H plaza. We were around Hollywood Blvd for an event and decided to have an early, 5pm, dinner here. I've been on the hunt for the best burger in SoCal for awhile and this place gives my current favorite, The Riders Club in San Clemente, a real run for burger champion of my world! Based on the reviews we were prepared for bad to indifferent service and terrific food. Much to our surprise the service was exemplary! The server came by within minutes of us sitting down to get our drink order. All the food came out right away and our bill was presented in a timely fashion. In other words, I could not have asked for or expected better service. I ordered a Number Three (mezzo secco jack, green chilis, chipotle, avacodo, beef) Michelle ordered a basic turkey burger and we shared orders of onion rings and french fries. I also ordered the Salty Caramel Shake along with an Alaska Ale. The Salty Caramel really deserves some attention here. From the menu it is described as bourbon, butterscotch, vanilla bean ice cream, and, Hawaiian red sea salt shake. This is the best shake I've ever had, anywhere, anytime. The bourbon adds some punch to the flavor but doesn't overpower the drink. It was rich and cold and I could picture drinking one in the middle of a 400k and feeling completely refreshed. Yes, this is a milk shake for adults, and that is what we all need on a Sunday evening. The burgers were great, cooked properly, and served perfectly. Although I will register my usual complaint about the server asking me how I want my burger cooked. Asking how a burger should be cooked is to cooking as asking "up?" is to taking a Gin Martini order. Either you know how to cook a burger and make a martini or you don't. Michelle said it was the best turkey burger she'd ever had. She said it was so good it didn't even taste like a turkey burger; it tasted like a REAL hamburger. My beef burger was cooked properly and was delicious, although I think the Riders Club has slightly better beef. The flavors on the burger were balanced perfectly and not one flavor over powered the taste other flavors. That is no mean feat when chipotle is involved. If I lived closer to this place I'd eat here twice a day till I went bankrupt. Then I'd get a job in the kitchen, learn their secrets and open my own place called 25.1 Degrees after borrowing money from everyone I know. I would become rich and famous and win Iron Chef repeatedly. Bloomingdale's would buy me out and use me as a ridiculously high priced consultant to put 25.1 degree cafes in all their stores. I would fight with Bloomingdale's management over their insistence that the customer always be asked how a burger be cooked and eventually we would part ways, but only after I'd snapped the CEOs fountain pen in half during an argument over what kind of bourbon be stocked in the bar. I'd move back to Dana Point and open a Martini Bar in Doheny State Park spending my years biking and surfing and plotting my revenge against that stupid CEO. Another burger joint on my LA Good Eats List...and it was definitely good eats! The burgers were on par with Umami and Father's Office but much bigger portions. I ordered the #2 - burrata cheese, roasted tomato, crisp prosciutto, and pesto. The beef was coarsely ground for a great texture. My only complaint is that the "crisp" prosciutto is really just burnt prosciutto jerky - hard and dry. But the creamy burrata more than made up for it. We ordered both the regular fries and the sweet potato fries and 3 dips - garlic aioli, chipotle, and tarragon remoulade. Next time, I will just order the sweet potato fries and 3 portions of the garlic aioli. That stuff is like crack! SO GOOD. I wanted to try the milkshakes but I was too full from the burger and fries. So when I came here and had their burger (which I decided to take it in my own hands and create: Medium, Spicy Chipotle sauce, Bacon, Pepperjack Cheese...) I was blown away. They legit have one of the best burgers that I have tried here in the state of California thus far. I think I liked it because I got to make what I wanted. My dream burger. Walked in on a weekend, it was fairly busy around 6pm then as time went by there were people standing around waiting to be seated by end of the night. The side of fries are also huge and totally sharable. The regular fries are good, but I wish I would have gotten the sweet potato fries and onion rings instead. Those there really good. The shakes are $6 each and really tasty too! There was enough leftover to fill two glasses. The chocolate one is my favorite. Caramel was too sweet and vanilla was too plain. If I could, I'd give this place 3.5 stars because it was just above avg but not quite a 4. First all the service was avg. at best. Our waiter and the other waitress working seem uninterested and weren't very welcoming. I couldn't get my waiter to crack a smile till I gave him the I am stuffed sign and my kid tried paying the bill. What I did like was the size of these burgers and portions of the fries. Burgers were pretty big and had plenty to fill up. On top of that the toppings were great but my "BEEF" came with the patty itself. At $11 for the patty alone you'd expect it blow you away but it didn't. It didn't have much flavor to it. The pricing at this place was pretty high. I was meeting my wife for an event at the Kodak, and as usual I arrived way too early, and way too hungry. With time to kill, I walked across the street and into 25 Degrees. The crowd was sparse at this time, and it gave me a chance to peruse their menu for a while before making my selection of the Number One, cooked well-done, and paired with a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was great, the fries tasty, and that Whiskey Smash cocktail with mint hit the spot. I enjoyed my food so much that after the show I came back, this time with my wife in tow. She ordered the Bobak Hot Dog despite my protests, and after she complained about not liking it I ended up finishing it. It was OK, but you should make the smart choice and stick with the burgers. After a long day in Hollywood we were both tired and hungry. This restaurant was located at our hotel, so it was easy to go to and had good reviews. When we came there we got a table without waiting, and that is a big plus. The place looks nice and we got the table front of the bar. The menu had almost only hamburgers and a few other things like salad and sandwiches. A good thing is that you can put together your own hamburgers. I chose to do that, and it came out perfect. Then I ordered something to drink. When we got the glasses and the drinks we saw that one glas was little bit dirty and the other one was broken on the top of it. When we saw that we tried to get some waitress to help us and after some time we got new glasses. When the food arrived the french fries we ordered with the burger to share came first, so we were really hungry and started eating them and when finally the burger arrived we had eaten to many French fries. I would rather get my French fries with my burger. Later when we wanted to pay, it took the staff a very long time to take our payment and when they took our card, it took even longer to get it back. Had a room at the Roosevelt few nights ago and we again reminded why I enjoy 25 Degrees so much. I gave up beef a few years ago and although finding burger alternative is getting easier it's still hard to find a good one. 25 Degrees always delivers a tasty, moist and great Turkey burger. I dig me some Sweet Potato Fries and a Guinness Milkshake to wash it all down, can I just say yes please! Pull up and take a seat on one of the bar stools or relax in a booth. Even though it's in the heart of touristy Hollywood it feels isolated and separated. It might look a little too imposing for the tourists to venture into with it's dark decor and being nestled into the Roosevelt hotel. BTW, the rooms at the Roosevelt. Won't be coming back any time soon... I was here for an hour. During that hour, I had the worst service in a long time. My friends were finishing up dinner and I joined late because of work. I made it there just as they were having dessert. I went to the "bar" to grab myself and my friend's birthday drink. The bartender was not friendly, didn't even say hello, didn't have any other customers and took a good 10 minutes to serve me. At the dinner table, the server gave us the check, but he was more interested in his friends or whatever and would not come back to cash us out. We all tried politely getting his attention for 15 min. before we gave up and said excuse me loudly enough for others to hear. He proceeded to give us a dirty look and eventually made his way over. Enough with my rant... here's my review I had their "Number One" with half serving of Fries & Onion Rings. Burger: Buns were huge, patty was equally enormous, i believe both were on growth hormones. The serving plate was excellent though, but when i bit into the burger, i was confused. Shouldn't a high priced burger match the plate settings? Meat was too thick, i tasted every misc meat that goes into a ground beef., lacked juiciness & flavor. Fries: tasty, but too thin... i would have like a thicker cut, by the time the fries cooled off, i could have used it like a bobby pin. Beer: I had their dark amber... it was tasty.. but expensive... $8 for a pint? Service: Half ass.... she looked like she'd rather be somewhere else... I went after lunch crowd, so there were maybe 4 to 5 tables at best... but she still couldn't give half the attention needed for her job. I went on my great L.A. Burger Hunt, so this lead me to a return visit to 25 Degrees where I ordered the #3 burger and it was even better than the last time I had one. I've learned from recent experience that in L.A., medium rare means "rare," so I wisely ordered it medium and it was pretty much medium rare which I was hoping for. Topped with a large slice of a green chili pepper, avocado, Mezzo secco jack cheese & chipoltle it's a great & delicious burger, perhaps the best in Hollywood. I came here for a friends birthday on a Saturday night. This place is not good for large groups...their typical seating is for about 5 which they can expand by pulling up a bench. They do not take reservations but when I spoke with management on the phone she said if I arrived 30 mins prior she would gladly save tables for us. Since the place does not accommodate large parties our party did sit at two separate tables though they were next to each other. The place is casual with an old Hollywood vibe but please...use your hands to eat the Burger. Guiness Milk Shake: although I could taste the alcohol in this this did not give me a buzz at all...and I'm a lightweight. The shake itself was nothing special #1: Their burgers are like slaters 50/50 where you can add on but I chose to have it as is. I have to say it's one of the best burgers I've ever had, especially the bun...It was so soft and light...I wanted to run into the kitchen and ask: what's your secret? I highly recommend the Burgers, they def know what they are doing here This is inside the Roosevelt Hotel so there is an entrance through the hotel or you can enter the restaurant from the outside. The place does not have a restroom though so you'll need to go in the hotel lobby to find it. There is also a long bar which has ample seating. The only thing I did not like about the place was the service. It was lacking to say the least. Our appetizer plate (empty, finished before the entree came) was taken away after we finished our entree despite it sitting at the edge of the table the whole time. Empty beer sat at our table as well. It got to the point that we started stacking our empty plates (when we finished our entrees) to make it easier when the server decided to pick up our plates. Well, that didn't happen. We actually ended up pulling several other employees to take away our empty dishes because our table needed to be cleared. Good luck finding street parking on this busy street. Validation with valet is 6 dollars. Food: Food is pretty good. Number one was pretty good 8/10 and the number three was decent 6/10. I would recommend the onion rings! I love that the onion rings were not too oily. The mixed drinks were good. We got the red head in bed and watermelon smash. The red head in bed was my favorite though and I'm usually not a big drinker. Service: Initially, it was pretty shitty. We came in and stood by the bar and no one came by to greet us even though there was about 4 or 5 of them behind the bar. We stood there awkwardly and patiently waiting for one to direct us where we would sit. If it was open seating, I wish they would have walked up and said something. Food: Great Service: Eh Experience: Unnecessary I recently went to 25 Degrees before a movie at the El Cap this past weekend. Honestly, I didn't even know it was there, but a friend in my group suggested we try it. We were able to sit right down and had our drinks within minutes, but that's the end of the good service. It wasn't exactly horrible, it's just what I would expect (sadly) from a place that I'm sure is overrun with rude tourist on Hollywood Blvd. It took FOREVER to get our burgers -- though they were worth the wait. Our drinks were nearly impossible to refill -- which was surprising considering most of us were drinking booze. A lot of typically Hollywood folk and tourist came in and out while we were there..... it's small.... gets crowded fast. If going to the El Cap or something else in the area -- it's much better food than most things at Hollywood and Highland and at a decent price point. Just don't be in a hurry....... read more

In the same week, I had the opportunity to compare 25 Degrees with Umami Burger. There were clearly no losers in this contest, and the true winner was my stomach. But there were distinct subtleties that favor 25 Degrees (although I'm probably more curious to re-visit Umami sooner than 25 Degrees). 25 Degrees gives you many tasty gourmet choices for your burger, but their strength is really the 2-3 pre-conceived burger specials at the top of their menu. My date and I ordered the #1 and #2, and split them down the middle. (You know it's a great date when she proposes that offer first!). We were quite satisfied--equally with both burgers--even though we weren't particularly hungry after the wonderful sides that arrived BEFORE our burgers. I almost felt like the judges in a Bobby Flay "Throwdown"! Number One had: carmelized onion, gorgonzola, crescenza. bacon, arugula, and thousand island. I wasn't sure I liked gorgonzola...didn't want to admit I had no idea what crescenza was...and was certain I didn't like thousand island. Still, it was yummy, and even better the second day with the smidgen I took home. Number Two had: roasted tomato, crispy prosciutto, burrata, and pesto. The pesto was such a great touch! And it's quite colorful! Both burgers were very moist, and not very greasy, so no ketchup was necessary. The sweet potato fries were good, but you really need to get the onion rings...faintly breaded; it made me wish that I could make onion rings like that to use as a bed underneath a nice beef or fish dish. For a burger joint, there's really cozy ambiance here. A wonderful wine selection, too, for a burger joint. (Yup, we wanted wine instead of beer). It's been awhile since I was that giddy to take home a doggie-bag (carton)! It matched my giddiness from the rest of the night. By comparison, Umami offers many more specialty burgers to choose from. Best burger in LA, no question. You can customize your meal, or choose from three options. The #1 is good, but my least favorite because I don't really get down with gorgonzola cheese, and they drench it on there. The #2 is the best burger I've ever had. Roasted tomato, proscuitto, burrata cheese, and pesto. This is as savory as it gets. This is actually difficult for me to write because I'm salivating hard right now. The #3 is delicious. Mezzo Jack cheese, chipotle, green chilli, and avocado. Not overwhelmly spicey, just perfect. I suggest you go half sweet potato fries, half onion rings on the side. And if you're a beer drinker, the 25 degrees ale is actually pretty tasty, or if your hardcore, down a Guinness shake. Best time to come: While everyone out is getting smashed at the clubs so you can actually enjoy the ambience. If you decide to get hammered and need to fill that drunk craving for food, just take your ass to Jack in the box or In 'n Out and save your money. It's all the same at that point anyway. read more
