We love love love 55 Thai Kitchen! Found this gem when we moved to the area, and we are so glad we did. The quality and authentic flavors of the food, the service, the fact that it's family owned and their mission is to donate food to kids in the community once a month, as well as donate a portion of profits to children in Thailand where the owner is from, I really love all of it. I read through some of the reviews and was so bummed to see people have anything negative to say about this spot, because it's such a great little restaurant!! This place is really unique - inside of a liquor store and with 3 tables inside and a few tables outside. But what it lacks in restaurant tradition is more than made up with the most important part of any restaurant - its food. And boy does it make it up in that department. The salad I had was dressed in the most amazing dressing and the drunken noodles was among the best I've ever had. The Tom yum soup was too sweet however and the wait time for the food was substantial as they were also busy with a bunch of call in orders. Super good food. The pad thai isn't spicy, but you can add your own spice to it there. Will be a regular neighborhood spot for us.

The atmosphere is actually very pleasant despite the unconventional location. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My friend and I both ordered the Pad Thai with tofu and it was brought out very quickly. We were immediately caught off guard by the fact that large pieces of tofu were just placed on top of the noodles, uncooked and cold. The Pad Thai itself was fantastic, great combination of flavors with the perfect level of spice. The only reason this review is not 5 stars was because of the uncooked tofu. I really wanted this place to be amazing but it's just good. You can taste the healthiness which is great but it's far from authentic. I recommend they hit up Sab e lee and take some notes and this place has the potential to be something really great. I think they need to cook the flavors together more, just felt almost hastily made. I had the drunken noodle and the chicken and vegetables were just left on top instead of being mixed in to absorb the flavors. So close to being pretty good but just nothing special, left me craving more flavor and complexly Thai tastes. read more

I had heard good things from others about this place in the back of a grocery store. We were both disappointed in the food. I had drunken noodles and it looked like they had used small broken pieces of noodles, so the dish didn't look appealing. We may try it again, as we love Thai and like the funky location. Hubby ordered chicken massaman curry, unfornately they didn't have beef. I ordered chicken drunken noodle, sadly the chicken wasn't stir-fryed with the noodle. Super convenient, tasty Thai food with great Thai ice tea and coffee as well. We had the Tom yum soup, the pas Thai and the ground chicken dush. All very good, soup portions were huge! Don't let the location deter u. We ordered and took our food home in less than 10 minutes. And grab some excellent Mexican popsicles from the ice box to the left of the restaurant doorway as u leave! I tried this place the other night and it was surprisingly good. I ordered the Thai fried rice with chicken. I was kind of disappointed that they do not offer duck. It was actually really good but simple. Also their prices are very reasonable with good size portions. They were also pretty fast. No problem with that but just realize that it is a long way out of San Diego in an odd spot. It is in a neighborhood and is in the back of a grocery store. You can order the food and take it outside but it is pretty barren. You're essentially eating in the front of the grocery store. That was fine and we had a great time but just realize that is what this restaurant is when you think about if it makes sense for your dinner date.we were old friends and that was fine for us but it may not be best for a first date. read more
