So this was my very first time here and we even came during a tropical depression so we got to be the newbies but also were the only ones there! I got to ask all my silly questions like "how does this work?" and "when can we go get our additives for our hot pot?" Our waiter was super helpful and explained everything. We severely over ordered but I'd rather over order and try everything so the next time we come back- we know exactly what we like! I got the miso base for my hot pot and got a seafood medley for it, shrimp, clams, krab, and scallops. Don't tell anyone but I just ate the krab sticks raw. We also did the Korean bbq and got pretty much everything- the shrimp, the spicy pork bulgogi, beef bulgogi, pork, more beef, brisket, I think? Something wrapped around mushrooms, that was a favorite of ours. Then we got up and got our noodles for the hot pot, kimchi and whatever else we wanted. I also had the strawberry iced tea and it was delicious, which totally caught me off guard because I was there to eat! My god, this restaurant is perfect! I've been to a number of Korean BBQ restaurants, and this place by far offers the highest quality of meat I've ever had. The pork belly, the rib eye, and the bulgogi pork were beyond flavorful and didn't need any extra sauces. There are some banchan (sides) offered buffet-style, mostly for those getting hot pots, but I would have loved to have those and more offerings at the table, as you often see at other restaurants. Still, this place is incredible! Such lovely staff who walk you through the menu and then actually leave you alone to cook your food. I've always found it sort of weird when you go to a BBQ spot and someone stands there cooking your food. So much of the fun is cooking your own stuff, right? I am an avid Korean BBQ eater from the DC, VA, MD area. I have done my due diligence looking up all you can eat Korean BBQ places in this area, but due to distance, this place was most convenient. My girlfriend, her son, and I went to try this restaurant. I do not like hot pot so because they offered bbq we went. Hot pot is my girlfriend's favorite so she jumps at the chance to eat it whenever. The menu offers hot pot, bbq, or both all listed and sold separately. However when we went to order, because my girlfriend wanted both they insisted that all 3 of us had to get both. I explained I do not eat hot pot. Boiled meat in broth has never appealed to me. All the food becomes mushy and watery after it's cooked. Why I never order it. The served went and got someone else and said he doesn't make the rules, however this isn't listed on the menu. I asked why would I pay for something I'm not going to eat and he gave the same reply. I'm sure there are people that try to cheat the system, but I'm not one of them. I have been here a few times and it has become one of my favorite places to get hot pot. I feel like they have a lot more options than other hot pot places I have been to. My favorite soup base is the kimchi soup and my boyfriend gets the Szechuan soup base. The Szechuan is good for people who like things spicy. Extremely rude staff, it was my first time in a while coming back to this place and, what appeared to be, the owner very loudly and aggressively told us we were past a two hr time limit for our seating. If he had nicely warned us, I would have appreciated it but instead he chose to be childish and rude to our young group. Service was not good, they did not give us napkins, we didn't all have menus, we had to clean our grill off as the staff merely watched when we asked for a paper change. To top it all off, they added a mandatory 18% tip which they frankly do not deserve. I wouldn't be surprised if they added that policy for getting no tips for their bad service. Meat quality has fallen greatly since my last visit and was genuinely no longer enjoyable nor worth the price. All in all, a great shame as I had many prior good memories of delicious food. If you're looking for an AYCE KBBQ like the ones in California - this is not it. Just letting you know now. The kbbq wasn't bad, the meats weren't frozen but they had none of the side dishes like soybean sprouts, potato salad, radish kimchee, or even rice paper. I've never had kbbq without rice paper, or even the brisket sauce. They had a whole array of other sauces but it was geared more toward the hotpot. I came here specifically for the kbbq but you automatically get the hot pot part of it included. I didn't mind, but to be honest I was kind of lost in what to do. They put the hot pots in front of us, but didn't show us how to use the stove portion of it. Eventually when our soups were still and everyone else's in the restaurant was boiling, we realized it's up to us to turn everything on or off. We knew we'd have to dump everything in and whatnot, but most places don't let you touch the settings. The hotpot was good but the service would've made it better. Everything was so fast paced, I'm talking about 30 tables with maybe 4 servers, and most likely and within 1.5 hours of being there, nobody walked by our table that was a server. We had to get up and find someone. Even if we'd raise our hand nobody would look at us. For two people paying $26.95 each, we had to get up and ask for food, never had water, and honestly I wouldn't go here again unless my kbbq craving was killing me. And also instead of brining one order or what I ordered she would bring at least 3-4 orders which we never approved. The hot pot here is a Sichuan style, with 5 broth variations not counting all the condiments you can put in it or in a dipping sauce. You order the meats and seafood from a menu (price is $26.95 AYCE) and the veg is from a buffet, although some of the specialty veg you have to order. The BBQ is called "Korean" but there's nothing Korean about it, it's totally Chinese style. Clientele almost entirely Chinese. Similar to Lemongrass Hot Pot also in Boca but with the grill tables. Grills are electric, not charcoal, similar to a Japanese teppan but 14" wide. They have outdoor tables as well next to a nice fountain in the canal. I actually came here about a month ago but purposely decided to wait for a month to give my input on it officially. I would've taken pictures, but everything was so unappealing I didn't even bother. I was curious to try this place to see if it would be a good alternative to Lemongrass in any way, and it doesn't even come close to being an option. Unlike Lemongrass, they offer Korean BBQ- which makes it at least different. This would be great if it was actually decent quality. But it sadly is not. When you enter into the establishment, you have four options, you can either: eat hotpot only, eat BBQ only, eat both hotpot and BBQ, or walk out of this restaurant. I highly recommend the fourth option. When I tried this place out, I had BBQ and Hotpot, which for the price seemed like a really good option. However, quantity does not equate to quality- especially here. The first thing I noticed about this place was that it was a bit HUMID inside, which strikes me as a safety issue- there were tiny flies zooming around, which made it even more bothersome and reflected its lack of hygiene. We got a very tiny pot for hotpot, which was fine. It was almost too small, however-. The grill for the BBQ was fine as well- despite they never replaced the grill. Having both of these things made the already small table even more cluttered. It just seems like they decided to throw in the hotpot option last minute before opening the place up- especially since the hotpots looked rather old and heavily used. However, when they brought in the meat and veggies, that is when I just knew I would probably not go back to this place. All of the meats they served was NOT cold. It was at room temperature (which implied it was out of a fridge, being EXPOSED to the humidness of the kitchen), and the plates it was on did not look very clean. The vegetables they served also were not cold and did not look washed. Already I was not very comfortable but I decided to eat anyways. The quality of the meats was generally poor, it had little to no flavor and essentially was similar to gum in how it would require chewing. When there is a lot of tendons on the meat, you kind of at least need a knife, they did not provide anything aside from chopsticks and a spoon. The staff was OK, It was a bit annoying and patronizing however when they brought in a guy who was grilling our foods for us when we did not ask or want that service. I understand that we are white but that does not mean we are clueless as to how hotpot/Korean BBQ works. They were not doing this to the pair of Asian males on the other table, which made us feel a bit embarrassed. The guy who was cooking our food seemed to be inexperienced and friendly, so I let him do it and thanked him for it regardless. TL;DR, this place is literally gross and too much for what they provide quality-wise, if you want a place with good hotpot, go to Lemongrass. I will not be coming back. read more

OK so here's how this place works.... It's essentially an all you can eat buffet with a twist. If you have ever been to the Melting Pot it's sort of like that but better. You can order your food in one of two ways or both ways if you want to try everything which is how I did it. The first way is called a "bowl" where you pick the type of broth from a list of 5 or 6 choices such as Miso, Kimchi, Szechuan, etc.. You will then have a large pot of broth with some spices and vegetables depending on what you've picked, placed on the hot plate in front of you. What you do then is order different types of noodles and then vegetables or proteins. There is no limit to what you want to eat, it is up to you to put your choices into the broth and cook it in front of you. The second way to order is similar except without the broth, then you can order whatever type of vegetables or proteins and then cook them on the flat top which is located in the center of the table. This way is really good as well. I ended up doing it both ways. Inside the restaurant is a bunch of different sauces that you can use with your food. There's even a menu how to mix the house sauces together to make even different sauces, which was pretty fun. Anyway, it was a fun evening and we all thoroughly enjoyed something totally different than what we're used to eating. Very important - if you can, sit outside or like most places where the grills are in the dining area, your clothes will pick up the smell. read more

However, instead of conveyor bar that moving around for you to pick, there is a menu for you to order. What made me really like this place is their sea food are in big size and also fresh. I really wanted to give 818 a higher review... but the policy where everyone at table has to order the same thing made for a very uncomfortable atmosphere for my friends and I this evening. The food was tasty and the best hot pot I've had since leaving china, (3 of us ordered hot pot) but our other friends didn't want hot pot they wanted Korean bbq. We had chosen to go to 818 instead of another restaurant specifically because they offered both options. But upon ordering we were told we all had to order only hot pot or only bbq or both together ($60+). There were no options for those who weren't very hungry and would have only wanted a small appetizer. And we couldn't split the table and half order one and half the other unless we wanted to sit at different tables. Although the staff allowed our friends to just order drinks and not eat, the very distinct line in the sand of everyone having to order the same thing was very disappointing, and rather strange since they missed out on other paid meals because of it. The price for hot pot was way too high for what we experienced. Be prepared if you choose to check them out. read more

Hot pot AND bbq? Yes please! This place hits the spot for both! The dinner buffet price is really reasonable, especially considering how much food you're getting! We liked the hot pot a bit more than the bbq, but that's also because we only had a few bbq items. The hot pot has fantastic ingredients and tons of veggies and sauces to choose from. Some veggies are available up at the buffet (like spinach and mushrooms), but you have to order others (like corn and lotus root) to be brought to you. I wish that part had been explained a little more but now we know for next time! The hot pot meats and fish were perfect! Flavors were spot on and it was nice to have your own bowl.
