I went in today and the food was decent but the shorter girl Journey has too much attitude. First she has the headphones in not entirely giving you her attention when taking your order and gives dirty looks when I selected "no tip" and told me the receipt will be in the bag instead of just giving it to me. She also put the wrong name on the order so they were calling a different name with my order so I had to confirm it was mine. The other girl at the front that gave me my order had to go back into the computer and print my receipt for me because Journey didn't give me my receipt, even though the people who ordered after me were given theirs. It comes with 2 scoops of rice, 1 scoop of macaroni salad, and a good amount of boneless fried chicken. The fried chicken was just okay. The cleanliness was always top shape. Now. The food, specifically the Garlic Chicken. It I was way better! The crunchiness of the chicken was perfect. Not so hard and not so soft, just right. Went there on Friday night around 7:15p. Being from Hawaii and craving some local food we decided to hit this place up. Prior to ordering we were told right off the bat that they were out of rice. Whaat??? A local place with no rice. Plus they were out of chicken also. We were hungry so we ordered other items on the menu. While waiting for our food, more people came in and seem surprised no more rice. When the staff seen how many people were entering the restaurant, they started putting up chairs unto the tables to somehow say we are closing soon and the instinctively know the young staff members wanted to go home on time. There was a line of about 10-15 people and it was still 1/2 hour till posted closing time. I only wish for the best for a local Hawaiian restaurant to succeed thus we always try to visit local style restaurants while in Vegas. But to run out of rice well before closing time and giving the idea that the restaurant is closing way too early, makes me sad to see the amount of business this establishment could be losing. I have noticed 9th Island Grill multiple times from my frequent Costco trips in the area. My wife and I decided it was time to finally try it. The restaurant is not large and is a combination of 9th Island Grill and Bowlology, which is a açaí bowl/smoothie restaurant. There are a few tables inside and on a patio area outside. To make your order, you go up to the counter and place it with the staff. One of my favorite Hawaiian dishes is the Kailua pork, so I knew I wanted that to be part of my meal. I went with the crispy spicy garlic chicken as well to complete my two item combo. My wife went with the Loco Moco, which was a huge portion. Both meals were good with the Loco Moco being the star. The Kailua pork was loaded with cabbage, which was listed, a garnish that was not listed, which made it less enjoyable than otherwise. The price is a little on the higher end, but the food was good, so that helped make up for it. Great staple island food with a few slight twists. The Loco Moco is incredible. They use light brown gravy and top it with fried onions. A slight variance from the dark brown gravy with sautéed onions. The Garlic Chicken has the perfect crunch with the garlic teriyaki based sauce oozing out when you take a bite. The Chicken Katsu is delicately battered with panko and fried golden brown. It has a slightly sweeter katsu sauce than the old school way. But then there is my person favorite- the Fried Saimen smothered with Bok Choy and a grilled Teriyaki Chicken breast. The service however is give or take. This location is right across from the Costco at St. Rose in the same plaza. I've always driven past this place many times, but never tried it until today. I regret not taking photos because I was so hungry, as the dish I ordered was amazing. I was greeted with a warm smile when I entered through the front doors by a young woman named Talia who took my order. I ordered the Fried Rice under the Breakfast All Day menu section which came with diced Spam in cubes, portuguese sausage, and char siu bbq pork. It also comes with scrambled eggs, but I asked if I could have my eggs placed on top of the fried rice sunny side up and they were able to accommodate. I ordered a soft drink as well as a side of Kimchee for only $1.50 more. There was another girl name Ashley who served me my bowl of Fried rice as it came out within 10 minutes after my order was placed, presenting it with a bright smile as if she knew what I was about to experience, a culinary escape to the Island of Hawaii. The dish was bursting with flavor the moment I took my first bite as I could tell the fried rice was cooked well based on the brown flavorful color of the rice infused with soy sauce, garlic, and green onions. I literally finished my dish in under 10 minutes. It was that good. The total price is decent. The Fried Rice was $9.00. Drink was $2.50, adding the extra egg for my Sunny side up satisfaction cost only $1.00. Total cost with everything came out to $15.71 including tax. I will come back here again as there are some other dishes I want to try. The interesting thing about this place is that the menu is unique as it offers not only Hawaiian food, but also Japanese influence culinary options as there is a small list of Japanese flavored Ramen such as the classic Shoyu Chicken Ramen, and Tonkotsu Ramen, with a fusionary touch of Chinese since they put Chau Siu BBQ Pork in the breakfast fried rice. They also have Sandwiches, Burgers, and on the healthier side Acai Bowls as well as Poke Bowls. I highly recommend YOU try this place out. I've yet to be disappointed here! Beautiful interior, great wall mural/paint job! Easy parking but in a busy Costco parking lot, so it can get congested at times. I'm absolutely a fan of their Garlic Chicken, both the original and the spicy. It's a wonderful sweet, garlicky flavor (the garlic is potent, which I love), and a crunchy external but moist and tender internal texture. I'm not a fan of the mac salad, but my boyfriend is. Conversely, He was not a fan of the fried saimin, but I was. The restaurant itself is super clean, and the customer service is amazing. Overall, a good meal at 9th Island Grill. My tastebuds are still getting accustomed to Vegas-made island food since we recently moved off island. My favorite of our choices on this visit was the OG Poke Nachos. I would definitely order this again with one of the Bowlology smoothies, especially in the warmer months ahead! Funny thing is, I had no idea 9th Island Grill in West Henderson was a 2nd location until I took my first bite of the wonton chip and ahi. It dawned on me that I had ordered the same plate, OG Poke Nachos, in Summerlin. Well guess what, that's where their 1st location is! The ahi was cubed at the right size, red in color, and sprinkled with seasame seed and green onion, drizzled with spicy aioli. I sure do miss the taste and display of glistening, fresh poke from Honolulu. But, this will do for now! The flavors and bits of spam, Portuguese sausage, char siu, and bbq pork in the Fried Saimin were on point. Topped off with baby bok choy and grilled chicken. The greens looked a bit wilted, but still had a slight crunch to it. Noodles were a bit sticky in some areas, so pulling with chopsticks was a bit clunky at times. I ended up grabbing a fork to cut and separate. It is a generous portion, so I boxed at least half of the bowl for take home. My +1 finished his Kalua Pork & Cabbage. The side of Mac salad was just okay. I was excited to try this, but sadly it just didn't meet my expectations. I would suggest adding a pinch more of salt and possibly more Mayo for creaminess! I'm a foodie, so I've dabbled around their menu got something from each category of bowls, plates, and boba tea, the only area I haven't tried yet is their smoothies, that will be next time. So far nothing has disappointed. We've had their poké nachos, ocean bowl, pb lover bowl, loco moco, kalua pork and cabbage, 9th island bbq chicken, 9th island poké bowl and matcha boba tea. Overall if your thinking about trying 9th island, definitely do so, it shouldn't disappoint. My favorites so far are the kalua and cabbage and their pb lover bowl. The mixed plate comes with macaroni salad and rice. My daughter's Katsu chicken came with a huge portion of breaded katsu and cut in slices with mac salad, rice and the sauce for the Katsu. She said it was crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside and not oily at all. She really loved the Katsu dipping sauce as it had a slight sweetness to it. We didn't see any kind of kids meals so my son ordered their 9th Island burger which had their beef patty,American cheese,crispy onions,pork belly,fried egg, and glaze but he opted without the onion. The size of this burger was insanely big for him. He ate his burger first but did not have much belly room to eat his fries. I had a few and they were thin, crispy and also not oily at all. Perfect! I love this spot, food is always ono but. . . The service today was just not there. The girl that took my order was somewhat rude. She repeated my order back to me and I paid. Then she calls my name but only one plate. I had to wait back in line to order my second plate. She even told me my order again and I told her yes but you didn't ring me up for it. She then looked even more irritated and didn't even apologize for the mistake. My food then was placed on the counter which she didn't call out my name and walked in the back. I walked up to the counter and waited which then an Asian girl comes from the back and kindly says hi and calls my name and hands me my food with a smile and friendly attitude. She needs a raise.
