It was difficult to find a variety of Asian cuisines in the East Coast suburbs particularly upstate NY. My brother mentioned this place because it was close enough to where we were staying without having to go all the way to Manhattan for mediocre dim sum. It seems as if most restaurants are inside hotels. And this place happened to be inside a hotel near downtown. It was small but was able to seat most of the people waiting. It was a popular place because people were lined up before it opened. We got seated right away and looked for our favorites on the menu. I would say that the dim sum was on the greasy side but they had most of what we wanted. I liked the shrimp dumplings and the fried taro balls. The service was alright but they were really busy so they couldn't be there to take away our plates. Other than that it was just ok. Don't think I would be back. read more

Decided to eat here upon the recommendation of the hotel staff. I had thoughts of a nice seafood dinner, however the desk clerk was adamant the food here was worth the stop and he was not wrong! Ordered the shrimp and scallops with garlic and was pleasantly surprised when they readily agreed to add vegetables to it upon request. My only disappointment was that they didn't have a bar-I was traveling alone and would have preferred to eat at the bar, but happily enjoyed in my room. Not impressed and had several people recommend this place. Service was not timely or friendly. The boneless ribs were more bone than meat and tasteless; the crispy shrimps with honey walnuts had a weird pasty white sauce and came with hardly any walnuts and we had to remind them to bring the shrimp shumai which were not so hot either. I was in the area and decided to check my Yelp for any great places to eat. This place and a local Asian food market came up. I first went to the Asian Food Market and was greatly disappointed. It smelled bad and it was dirty. I started thinking maybe the Asians around here are limited with Asian grocery stores and if they think this is great, I am concerned about the quality of food from the restaurant Aberdeen Seafood and Dim Sum. We came all the way and decided to go for it. We started of trying to figure out where to park. I recall my fellow awesome yelpers stating it's in the Reinassiance Hotel. Ok, I can work with that. Then came the time. It opens at 11:00 am and I thought I read there is a huge line waiting to get in so go there before they open. Ok, we did that. Nobody was on line waiting. Huh ho. I'm getting nervous. I asked the receptionist at the hotel where do I park. She indicated to pull my car around the corner. There is a place where you pull in and take the ticket and then go into the spaces. Well we found that parking area and when we pulled the ticket, it allowed us to go through. However the gate to the parking garage did not open. Oh.... is this an omen? All said and done, we parked it on the outside of the garage. Now for the restaurant itself. We walked in promptly at 11:00 am. Still nobody except us and the staff. Ok..... After the hostess seated us, we ordered Jasmine tea (I ordered Jasmine tea automatically. I have no idea what tea they would have offered us tbh). After we received our tea, we had a lady come up to us with her cart and offered us various dim sum items. My family wanted everything on the cart. I was however more prone to caution seeing how I seriously doubted the fellow yelpers on the Asian grocery store 3 1.2 stars?!?!?...really???). The first few dishes were tripe, spare ribs and shrimp dumplings. Lets be honest, every dim sum place is judged by how good their shrimp dumplings are. I ate the various food and was beyond pleasantly surprised. Wow, wow, wu wu!!! Delicious! Now, I started to have more confidence and felt ashamed of myself for doubting my fellow yelpers (I still disagree with the rating of the asian grocery store) and ate with great relish. Each dish was so fresh and obviously made with love and care. I even ordered the curry puffs, which at every dim sum place has always failed to meet my expectations. Well this place knocked it out of the ball park. It was so tender, flaky and most of all, filled to the max with beef curry. In fact, all their fillings are filled just right. A lot of the dim sum places I have frequented have been getting worse and worse and have been skimping big time and the fillings have been less than a teaspoon worth of filling. That's including their roast pork buns. That's blasphemy!!! Thankfully, this place has restore my faith in great dim sum places. The waiters and waitress all take pride in their food as well as their service. The usual, water and tea was always full and they were so kind as to even change plates after chili, hoisin and soy sauce ran abundant throughout our plates. Will we come back? In a heartbeat! The place does get crowded at 12:00pm though. Yes, we sat there eating for one hour! Our bill came out to $16 per person for lunch. That was not bad considering all the food we had. We actually overate but could not stop simply because we have not had great dim sum in so long. Too long and that's just not right. Many people will say it's Cantonese dim sum. Awful. Rude and almost non-existent service. I get that Covid has changed things but either provide paper menus on request or invest in a online menu that is readable. You scroll down forever and forget what piqued your interest by the time you see the next thing you might order. Way too much work. Then, like the airport, they want you to order on the phone! Outrageous! Some of the appetizers were decent but more than half our party of 5 received their entrees more than 15 minutes after the first two entrees were served so we sat waiting for them to grow cold. They were all horrible anyway. Peking duck was the worst I've ever had. No bar. Just 3 wines beer and soda. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Don't go! Great great Dim-Sum. I have read this place has the best anywhere this far from the city. Taking that advice I decided to swing by and give it a go. I'm no great gauge of authentic dim-sum but what I had set the bar pretty damn high! A twenty minute wait for one on Friday at 2pm. Not ridiculous but a bit unexpected for that time. The place was not at capacity but they're not gonna sit me at a table for six. Understandable. I got a cozy corner spot next to a few White Plains court lawyers talking shop which was interesting but at times distracting because I was at a really good bit in my book 'The Half Made World.' (Excellent so far, 5 stars.;) Anywho, the food. The food was exactly what my stomach went in search of! Lunch was quite a minimal affair. You get a dim sum menu, a "lunch special" menu (you Chinese frequenters know the "11:30-3:00 no weekends" menu? That one.) A glass of water, a pot of excellent tea, single plate, set of chopsticks, tiny chili type sauce and a fork for the less dexterous diners. (I know it does not sound minimal but it felt very basic and functional, just go already and see for yourself.) Theres also salt and pepper on the table which I found quite funny and thought it must be some kind of joke or a way to profile people. "He used the salt?" "Sir, could you please get the f%@k out? You are banned." Something like that. I ordered Steamed Pork Buns, Chicken Feet, Veg. Spring Roll and Seafood Shumai. The buns were an unexpected hit. I got them assuming they were the folded, pork belly type thingys. These were almost dumpling like with an interesting consistency I can only akin to a sticky bread like, um...thing. Again, go try them. I loved everything about them except that there were only three. I would have gotten an order to go, like I did the shumai but I didn't think they would hold up in a container and reheating. Shumai was perfect and just seafood, there is a separate pork shumai. I was mistaken assuming the veg spring roll was a healthy option. It was a deep, deep fried roll with unidentifiable ingredients and a gel like filling. Tasted better than it sounds but it was not what I was looking for. Now, I like to try new things, you know, be a bit adventurous in my dining. So, when I see chicken feet for 2.95$ I think why not, it's not that weird and it's really inexpensive. Very slimy, bathed in an oil that repelled water so well I had to use all ten fingers (8 n 2 thumbs for you jackasses) to keep this thing stable so I didn't end up wearing it and ruining my nice shirt. It's basically skin and tendons I guess, not very tasty to me but I know it's quite popular to many others. Overall I loved every aspect of this restaurant and it was wayyyy worth the twenty minute wait. If you can make a reservation I suggest you do. read more

Tried this place for the first time for brunch and really enjoyed the variety of dim sum. Aberdeen is located inside the Marriott hotel in white plains. There is ample street parking and there is a parking lot across the street. The venue is small and somewhat cramped but the food is worth it. The staff is friendly, the venue is clean and the variety will knock your socks off. When you enter the restaurant you will notice it's modestly decorated. The tables are simply dressed. When seated you are offered a pot of tea and immediately the food starts arriving. Numerous waiters start coming around with platters or carts filled with piping hot Chinese dim sum varieties. I lost count because there were so many types of dumplings and buns. Each time you take a dish the waiter marks a sheet which tallies your items. Items vary in price from around $4 a plate and up. We tried a variety of items which included roast pork buns, custard buns, shrimp dumplings, chicken feet, tripe, clams in black bean sauce, stuffed hot peppers, stuffed eggplant, sesame balls and curry puffs. Everything was delicious. The tripe was well seasoned, cleaned well [no barnyard taste], and cooked perfectly. The curry puffs were crispy, flaky and had a tasty curry filling. The portions are small which gives you a chance to sample multiple items. The bill was $90.00 for four people, which is reasonable for the area. There are no other restaurants in the area which offer dim sum to this extent so this place is a great if you are craving dim sum. The restaurant also has a regular menu which offers a variety of traditional Chinese dishes. There are tanks in the venue with live fish/shell fish which you can pick out for a meal. I'm not sure if the restaurant serves alcohol as I didn't see anyone drinking or a cocktail/wine menu. This place was fun and traditional! Will definitely be going back! read more

Ok.. I'm from Vancouver and i love my Cantonese food so we have been all over NYC and Westchester. Gotta say now that after four times here - dim sum, lunch, dinner and takeout - this is a solid pick. All the flavors are what i expect from the average Cantonese restaurant. The amount of the food for the price may not be as much as you get in Flushing at Mt faves there but this is Westchester. Also the dim sum is not tops but it is soooo much better than that Central place down Central Ave by the Best Buy (which i will never go to again) and not far from Asian Jewels or Grand in Flushing. Some examples: Beef haw fun - flavor is right, noodles ate right, beef is tender, too many sprouts for me. :) Fish with corn sauce - on the lunch menu, this is as good as i got back home in Richmond BC.. me and my don's fave. Tofu and fish hot pot - right on although my wife prefers if the tofu was not add deep fried first. Peking pork chops - standard wirh a touch more breading then i prefer ideally but tender. Pea tips - yumz Lobster with yee mein - not as much noodles or as long as i am used to. Yung chow fried rice - not up to my standard but still good. Going to try the Peking duck next time as maybe i will get my flat " pancakes" instead of the thicker "bun" which is more shanghai style. .. if only i didn't live 20 min drive away. read more

First things first, make sure to make a reservation because this place gets packed. The dim sum hours are from 11 - 3 and during that time, carts and trays will be brought around offering you various dishes. These range from different types of dumplings, buns to chicken feet and turnip cakes. If you go with a group of 3 on an empty stomach, you can easily try every dim sum dish offered (most of them are offered in servings of 3) and it'll only end up being $70-$80 total. This is what I did and it was a good way to get a feel for everything. Some of my favorites were the soup dumplings, taro puffs and shrimp shiu mai. The location can be a little hard to find because it's inside the Marriott and it's sign isn't too visible from the outside. Just remember you have to go into the hotel to get inside. read more

When a friend told me that we could get authentic Chinese food in White Plains, I was incredulous--- but it does really exist. We took my dad here for Father's day because he loves Chinese food (has eaten it everywhere he has gone which ironically does not include China). Not only does Aberdeen do the basics really well- the wonton soup was really flavourful-- but the other dishes were memorable, too. The Peking Duck took at least 30 minutes but was worth the wait. When we asked what crab dish would be good, we were recommended the off-menu crab with sticky rice. I am not a real shellfish fan but this was great! It turned out to be a bit of a splurge at $60 (3lb crab @$20/lb) but crabs will be cheaper in the coming months. We also had a very tasty beef with mushrooms and bamboo (first time I have had bamboo outside of China). They also have reasonable banquet menus. read more

On weekends, China Town style dim-sum on the cart. Other times very yummy Chinese Food. I recently discovered a dish called "Snowpea shoots with bamboo pith". Did you know such thing existed? I didn't. But it surely tasted great! It's taken off from the recent menu redesign (it is 05/2016 now), but they will still make it for you. PROS: - China Town experience without having to drive to Manhattan - Clean! - Great dimsum! Really yummy. - Menu with photographs of all dimsums companied by English captions. - Across from Kam Sen the Chinese Market. Fun to shop for exotic food there. This has been on my to visit list for a while now since it's one of the few dim sum places in the Westchester area. Came with a friend around 11am on a weekday and was pleasantly surprised with the selection. They do have the dim sum in carts or cart since it's really only one cart that is pushed around. If you've ever dimsumed in Chinatown or Flushing, this place is no where near the same level of bustle and variety, but it's not bad if you're craving dim sum. Other reviews say it's busy on weekends so maybe they have more carts then. It's connected to the Marriot hotel strangely enough so when you go through the revolving doors, you'll see the shiny silver door for Aberdeen on the left. There is metered parking nearby as well as garage parking a couple streets over. They have the traditional dim sum dishes such as shrimp balls, shrimp and beef noodles, pork buns, chicken feet, etc. Everything tasted good. The stuffed eggplant dish wasn't as good as other places, but minor setback. The place was pretty busy when we went, there was a mixed crowd with some Asian families, single diners possibly from the hotel, as well as random couples and groups. It was nice to hear Chinese being spoken and it did remind me of other dim sum places I've been too. Would come again for a local dim sum fix! read more

We came here 15 minutes after opening, and it already had a 45 minute wait, so definitely call and make reservations if you can! This was a nice set up that it was like the traditional dimsum restaurants with the pushcarts, but also not nearly as massive and chaotic as one you'd find in Chinatown or in the city, so easier to flag people down, and they were much better at pointing things out and explaining different things. The food was all really good, not too salty or greasy, which dimsum sometimes can be like, and the baked desserts came out very fresh from the oven! If you dont see anything, you can always ask someone if they have any left, and they can check. We asked about the egg tarts, and they said they were just coming out of the oven, so we got some very fresh ones (and they didnt come out on the carts for another 15+mins). The egg tart and sesame balls were winners, their mango pudding was way too sweet and artificial tasting though. The dumplings were dry, but the chashu baos (both varieties) were good. Plus, they do have to-go containers, if you need to take any for later. The bill was shockingly high though, for 3 people it was $80+, where as I've had dimsum with more than double that amount of people in cities like Boston/NYC/etc and maybe that price. read more

Updating my review from 2010. Since then I have ranged far and wide for dim sum - Hong Kong, San Gabriel Valley, LA Chinatown, Flushing and Sunset Park. This remains the go-to spot in Westchester for weekend dim sum and I return to Aberdeen frequently. I think it is easily on par with the Manhattan Chinatown spots and the only NYC area places that I would put above it are much larger - Asian Jewels in Flushing, Bamboo Garden in Sunset Park. If you know Pacificana, I would say it is roughly on the same level, but I only have only been there once. During the week the dim sum selection is much more limited, but they will make items that are not in the cart to order if they can. Weekday favorites of mine- chive dumplings, tofu skin, fried taro balls, shrimp shao mai. On a recent Sunday trip the standard bearers were the curry beef puffs, scallop dumpling and the roast duck, along with more prosaic items like beef rice noodle rolls. Congee was available if you're into that. If I were going at night for dinner, I would check on the Dungeness crab situation - their Dungeness Crab with e-fu noodles is the best dinner dish, but there was only one crab in the tank this Sunday. On this last visit, a neighboring table of Chinese people were feasting on a great-looking large dish of pan fried noodles with beef, which I will try next time. read more

Once we sat down, we were given a menu but the majority of the items can be found in carts going around. Or you can ask them and they'll bring it pretty quickly. We had the: - crystal hargaw (clear) shrimp dumplings - juicy, good - noodle crepe with fried dough atop with sesame seed, hoisin - they have the shrimp crepe lying around - pork shu mai - pretty good, good meat filling - juicy pork dumplings (not the soupy kind) - was ok. Good filling, not soupy. -fried samosa-like pork/puff - not my thing, a bit sweet (I don't like fried stuff, but they had plenty of it, all sorts of fried dumplings, egg custards, puff pastries) -tofu fa (get this!) silken tofu with ginger/honey sauce for dressing -salted congee (with salted duck egg, good) - pork buns (smaller than what they have in the city), still good, very dough-y with BBQ char siu pork -lotus steamed rice (pretty good), good flavor rice, and pork/mushroom bits - A bunch of greens, I think it was Chinese spinach? They were very good about refilling tea and waters. You can order things from the kitchen like noodles, and stir fries. Don't over order! Dim sum fills you up. The family has eaten there many times and always satisfied with the food and service. I have Aberdeen on speed dial. When we want Chinese I'll call Aberdeen to place a pickup order as soon as I cross over Tappen Zee bridge. By the time I arrive in White Plains the order is usually coming out of the kitchen. This is the spot for Dim Sum for sure! If you are craving Dim Sum make sure you make a reservation. You don't want to have to wait because instant hunger will strike upon arrival. This restaurant is located inside a hotel, so parking is street parking. We usually get lucky with a spot pretty close, but you can also drop off in the round about and park after. Be sure to be rather aggressive in your ordering and requests for what is coming around. The staff rarely takes offense. The dumplings are light and delicious. The meats are varied and succulent. I think the food was good but the services were bad. Their dim sum dishes are on the expensive side but some of them are pretty good. Some of the dim-sum servers were very aggressive selling the dishes in their cart or serving plates - may be they are paid a commission on selling more dishes? Located inside a hotel, Aberdeen is a good place for authentic, traditional dim sum. I was surprised by how experienced and caring the staff are with making sure you get the dishes you want. The wait can be a while on the weekends for brunch/lunch. They have tanks with lobsters and fish. They have carts and each cart has a large selection of dishes so it doesn't take a long time to fill the table. You can view the menu online. The staff stands out to me at this restaurant - they are well trained, caring, and dedicated in their work. They can also speak to you in Mandarin, Cantonese, or English. Given that this is the only real dim sum place in the area and focuses on that I'm giving it 4 stars. I recently went back after years...and if lived up to my expectations. I wasn't left disappointed nor was I blown away, right down the middle and satisfactory in all ways. The menu is diverse and also has a fish tank with fresh catch that you can select from. Weekends are clearly for family gatherings and there are enough large tables to accommodate even 10 people on one. Service is pretty friendly and to the point.
