We both owe him a "thank you," as we've frequented you 3 times in two weeks. You're welcome. The menu has so many superb options. Our first pass with you we dined in and dove straight in to your excellence. That sausage and fennel pizza stood no chance for our ravenous crowd. Your wine list offered up so many options to pair with your hearty pasta selections. Duck, boar, bolognese, oh my! Literally, keep up the great work on those sauces and homemade pastas. After having a stunner of a night out, we did two nights in with you too. Our gluten free squad has sung your praises too given the amount of variety you offer both on the pasta and pizza front. This restaurant was highly recommended by our hotel and it DID NOT disappoint!!! We had the cauliflower appetizer first. So delicious. It was lightly breaded with a hint of lemon and pepper rings on top. Then the lasagna came out. Creamy and rich with sausage pieces. My friend ordered the Wild Boar Ragu. Depends on day of the week - we were able to grab a drink at the bar while waiting one night, and grabbed a drink down the street another night. The family and I were able to get reservations at the local Italian restaurant in Whitefish on a whim. First tip, make reservations as far ahead of time as possible! Food was good! I wouldn't say it was all it was hipped up to be, but we enjoyed ourselves. The pasta is all homemade. We had the meatball appetizer which probably ended up being our favorite dish. My husband had the lasagna which did have a very heavy pepperoni favor to it. I had the bolognas which was good! Very meaty! The bar staff were very friendly and professional, and our table was available quickly after a short wait. And then, apart from some yummy elk tartar and the best meal all night - the wild boar ragu, the night was an epic fail. Gabby, our waiter, was unsuccessful in bringing the bread he offered, confirmed we wanted and that we then inquired about a third time. Ditto our request for additional water. To put it kindly, simple tasks were not his strength. As for the food, apart from the elk and boar dishes, which to be fair were very good, the carbonara was edible and the pizza was slightly better than the Red Baron frozen pizza you get from the store. The pièce de ré·sis·tance of the evening was the NY strip steak. An excellent cut of beef was perfectly cooked, and yet accomplished an utter disaster we shall long remember. While a red wine reduction is a common and delicious steak accompaniment, it's cousin, balsamic vinegar reduction can best be described as illegitimate in every sense of the word. This tragic preparation was and remains absent from the menu, thus eliciting my wife's four-letter editorial commentary. I offer this, a review of my wife's birthday dinner, as a factual testimony and personal warning. That said, the absolute fiasco of food and service, compounded by the upscale pricing, had my family laughing at this unmitigated disaster of a dinner. It seems only fitting that the epic Chinese dinner scene from A Christmas Story was playing at the bar before our own Christmas dinner story began. read more

Discrimination!!! I came here on a Monday night (8/19/24) for dinner and it was pretty packed. Two brunette hosts told my partner and I there would be a 45-minute wait. We decided to put our name down because we were already there and the host asked if we were sure that we wanted to do that.. that's weird but yes... we're hungry. We ended up waiting for something at the bar to open up. The girls stared at us and spoke under their breath the entire time we waited. We were seated within 5 minutes of us putting our name down and 15 minutes into our meal the restaurant was half empty. I'm not sure why the host tried turning us away or didn't want our service but it seemed like they had a problem seeing an interracial couple. I normally wouldn't even give this another thought but I truly hate a mean girl, it's toxic and has no place in the service industry. Our server Katie was amazing and so kind, nothing like the attitude of the hosts. I guess since most people here in Whitefish are white, it doesn't really matter to them that the establishment discriminates.. but watch out if you're from out of town because I've truly never experienced anything like this. We came here for dinner on a Saturday. We got so lucky because we didn't have a reservation, but maybe it was just our timing but we only waited about 30 minutes. We heard after us it was becoming a 2 hour wait! We got bread for the table, which was fresh and warm with the delicious balsamic and olive oil. We also got calamari for the table. It was okay, it was a little over cooked for me. My husband got the bib salad and it was incredible. So simple but so delicious. The portions were huge too. We loved our Pastas, they were fresh and had so much flavor. The bolognese was a little more oily and rich but I ate every bite. The ragu was perfectly cooked and delicious. We finished it with the budino dessert and it was incredible. We loved the touch of salt on top and the caramel was to die for. I would definitely come back here! read more

We vacationed in Whitefish for nine days and went to Abruzzo's our first night per a friend's suggestion. We ended up returning three more times, so if that doesn't give a strong recommendation, I don't know what will! If you love a good cocktail, you must order the Bee's Knees made with Empress gin. Out of the world and so pretty too! We sat out each night on the back patio. Loved it! We tried so many things on the menu and our #1 favorite was the bolognese. So so good. We also had the carbonara pizza, mushroom and chicken rigatoni, wild boar ragu, New York strip, Italian chopped salad, cauliflower on the appetizer menu, and their ravioli special. This place will not disappoint no matter what you order... but just don't skip the bolognese. :) read more

We've been to this restaurant many times over the years. It has been our place. However, it seems the business side of the house is getting greedy. First difference is they now charge for bread where before it used to be included. I'm used to it being included at fine Italian restaurants. Secondly, they now assess a credit card fee-who carries a couple hundred around in cash these days at the end of the day. For the food, the fried cauliflower was really salty and not edible beyond one bite. All the other food, pork shank, Pesto and seafood entrees were spot on. Overall, the food is good, but turned off by the nickle and dime charges. There are other new places on the scene to check out next time, which is sad to say. read more

My wife and I were really happy with our choice for Dinner on the night we went to Abruzzo's. When we arrived, we were told that the wait would be about 20 minutes. Imagine our surprise when we got the text less than 5 minutes later saying our table would be ready soon. Out of character, my wife and I both opted for the same dish... Seafood pasta. We also got an order of calamari as an appetizer, split a Caesar salad, and two glasses of Chardonnay. Everything we got was very very good! The main course was delicious, as the shrimp and crab was cooked perfectly. The pasta was ribbon thin, and again cooked perfectly. The sauce was a thin buttery sauce, perhaps with some wine. It was truly delicious. We forgo'd dessert, as we had pie waiting from a different Whitefish institution, but that is for a separate review. Abruzzo's is top notch in my book, and we will be back if we ever visit this area again. read more

My wife and I decided to visit Whitefish last week to see the Christmas decorations before they come down. We arrived a bit before the restaurant opened, so we walked around the shops and reacquainted ourselves with the many restaurants in downtown Whitefish. We live locally, but don't get to Whitefish much, and decided to try Abruzzo's since my daughter said it is a favorite of hers and we were craving Italian food. The food and service were good, but I am only giving 4 stars for the lack of complementary bread with the meal. You can order it as an appetizer, but given the cost of the entrees and medium size of the portions (at least for mine), I was disappointed that the restaurant chooses to charge for bread, rather than offer it as a complementary side, as do most of the Italian restaurants I've visited. It just put a bit of a damper on the experience, and I wanted to let others know so they can know what to expect. read more

My husband popped into the restaurant at 4pm right when they opened on Tuesday 7/6 to try to make a reservation for 5pm for the two of us. (Whitefish restaurants were crazy busy with 2.5+ hr waits or "no longer taking names" the night before on Monday 7/5 with all the holiday travelers). He was able to get us a table seating reservation in the bar area (vs main dining room) which was very nice. They have some specialty cocktails which all sounded yummy - I chose a Negroni as homage to my dad. We split an order of the Cacio de Pepe which was presented to us already beautifully split. I chose the fish special which was halibut with a great crunchy char and flavor. Decided to choose chocolate crema for dessert for something a bit different than tiramisu. Great option while visiting Glacier National. The space inside is a bit smaller so keep in mind for covid times but they do space out tables enough. I saw there's a patio sign but not sure where it was. Staff is friendly, and vibe is a step up from the pubs and local restaurants but not stuffy. I got the mushroom rigatoni, and it was so hearty and delicious. Our group also shared a Caesar salad (solid) and the carbonara pizza, which was soooo decedent and wonderful! Definitely try a pizza. I never thought I'd say this - some of the best cacio e pepe I've had outside of Europe was in... Whitefish, Montana! SO phenomenal, cheesy, and just perfect. To backtrack, this place is located on one of the main streets in downtown Whitefish. It has lovely indoor seating, but also a very nice outdoor patio. The wait staff were extremely friendly and helpful! We started with the complimentary warm, fresh bread they offered with balsamic and olive oil. I devoured this fast! We ordered the burrata as an appetizer, too, which was delicious. Finally, my sister ordered All'Amatriciana which had the most unique sauce with its hint of mushroom and onion. My cacio e pepe I already told you about! It was a BIG portion, and they were generous with the cheese which I appreciated, since many Italian spots skimp you on the cheese. This place was recommended by our Airbnb host and I completely understand why. Beautiful, bright dining area and big bar complete with a beautiful fireplace in the corner. On a Friday night without a reservation we were given a 40 min wait which turned into only 30 and there is a western style bar next door to grab a drink at while you wait. At Abruzzo, we had incredible service, delicious food and a really great Cabernet from Chile that I will absolutely be looking for when I get back home. First off...the atmosphere. I have always liked this location but they have re-done the back area. The new bar and the motif is excellent. We were seated in Rob's section. He was great, attentive and personable. We ordered the calamari and meat balls for an appetizer. The calamari was a little chewy and the meat balls were good but three meat balls was a little small, they are small meatballs. We enjoyed a bottle of Chanti Classico. We read other reviews that you had to ask for bread so we did. We were not offered anymore once it was gone. They have a wood fire pizza oven. I had the Americana pizza and another in our party had pepperoni pizza. It was delicious. The crust was good and the server said they made it here. Two others in our party had carbonara and fettuccine with chicken. The pasta dishes are smaller portions than expected. My husbands first words "You think as cheap as pasta is they would give more" he is a big eater. I would get the pizza again before pasta. With some fine tuning this place could be 5 Star. Little bigger portions would help. You should never leave an Italian restaurant hungry. The service was excellent, the atmosphere great so we will try it again. read more
