On time, knowledgeable, great service! I live in a complex with a really old heating/AC system and somehow wasn't able to install my Nest thermostat even after doing all the proper research. Figured something was wrong with the power itself but couldn't figure it out. ABS is one of the few companies that worked with units this old and they sent out someone (gave me a 12-3 window and he came around 1). Bob showed up, fully masked, and was nice enough to even put on shoe booties without even me asking. He got right to work and was very polite and knew exactly what he was doing even though my wiring setup was quite complex. In comparison, I had some friend of my aunt's come over to take a look first and he was absolutely stumped. 30 minutes later, my nest was installed (which I hadn't even asked him to do, but he did it for me) and it was up and running just fine. He informed me why it wasn't working before. He even told me that the type of filters I buy work great but get clogged up quickly so I'd need to replace that. In the 25 years we've worked with contractors, Bob was the only HVAC professional who recommended adding an additional return air vent to the furnace closet. There was just one, which he said was like breathing with just one nostril--but no one wants a big hole punched in the wall, right? I watched as Francisco and Julian triple-checked the measurements and made the cuts. They were so precise that we didn't have to paint around the new vent. And, OMG, what a difference! In 2021 I had 3 different furnace service companies trying to find what was causing my furnace not reaching the desired temperature and sometimes shutting down. Of course, our Air Conditioning system failed on the hottest day this month, so I called ABS to do a troubleshooting call. Brandon arrived within an hour and ran diagnostic tests. The "good" news was that the Air Conditioner was fine but the Blower in the furnace was the problem. A replacement circuit board would be required (if they could even find one for my 26 year old furnace). Brandon gave my options to either replace the circuit board keeping the 26 year old furnace, or installing a new Payne furnace. I opted for a new furnace install upgraded to better match my existing 5-ton Air Conditioning unit. Brandon and Stan installed the new system today (20 hours after his initial visit) and increased the plenum size to 24 inches to increase efficiency of the air compressor. Everything running great. We recently decided to replace our HVAC system. We met with Bob and reviewed his recommendations for our home. Of all of the companies we got quotes from ABS was the most affordable. They quoted us a week and they delivered. They replaced all of our ducts, moved our a/c unit, moved the furnace to the attic, and moved vents in certain rooms to make the unit work more efficiently. Our old unit was fighting to keep the house at 80 degrees on hot days. Our new unit got us to comfortable temp in less than an hour. We are now using the heater,LOVE IT!! Last winter we had to bump the heater to sometimes 76 to get the whole house comfortable, the back would be cold and too warm in the family living area. Now we don't go over 71 to have the whole house warm. My daughter loves that her room is no longer is the oven in the heat and the freezer in the cold weather. There recommendations were spot on. We hired ABS several years ago to replace our 1990 heater. The process was seamless and we love our new Carrier variable speed heater. It's completely worth having a variable system for so many reasons. I love that the heat doesn't blast on high first thing in the morning as it used to wake me up. The units have a circulate mode which keeps the air circulating throughout you house during the day and night. It can be off, set to fan, or circulate. Love those features. We have been super happy with the Carrier that he installed. When ABS did the heater installation, they were able to bring an April Air filter system back out of the attic (which the previous AC company placed in the attic when we upgraded to AC 15 years ago). Climbing into the attic on a yearly basis to change the filter was a complete nightmare, so I was so happy to have the filter back in the garage and easy access to change it. All was well and then my son broke the drain line coming from the AC coil and we had to replace the coil under the heater since the tray was completely cracked. We didn't immediately realize that our AC system wasn't working properly until the next summer. Eventually I heard the outside condensing unit short cycling on and off as soon as it was on for about 30-45 minutes. Just long enough to cool the house about 2 degrees, then it would short cycle. We spend so much time trying to troubleshoot the issues and then we asked Bob (the owner) to come and figure out what was happening. He sent his guys to replace the coil again, thinking that it was defective, but we still had the same issues. There was a possibility that the condensing unit was failing, but since we put it in new 15 years ago and it hadn't been used that much, we were hoping to avoid replacing it. Bob decided to send his guys one more time to take apart the entire heating system and change the coil to a coil that matched the carrier heater that he installed 5 years ago (we had opted to retrofit the old coil to the new heater so that we could save around $1500). In retrospect, I now understand why they prefer to change out an entire heating and AC system when doing installations. The systems can be very temperamental. They spent almost an entire day at our house taking apart the system, putting it back together and did the tests. Everything looked awesome and our AC was purring like a kitten. We were ecstatic! We didn't need to spend thousands on a new unit outside. Then, two weeks later I noticed another problem and went outside to hear the unit buzzing without turning on. Sigh...I opened the unit up and saw a broken wire. It was completely melted through and of course, no power getting our AC. I sent a photo to Trish (Bob's wife) and she had Bob look at it. He was at our house within a few hours and fixed the wire within 15 minutes. We are back to a wonderfully cool house just in time for the July 4th heatwave. I have recommended ABS to others looking to have repairs or a whole new system. Bob is a man that stands behind his work and his business. It was a very challenging issue that we had, but he didn't give up trying to figure it out and continued to send his guys to troubleshoot and do repairs all on his own dime. I had another HVAC company review my heating and air conditioning system recently and they said my ducts needed work. They were very pushy and seemed untrustworthy so I didn't move forward with them. Instead, I called ABS and had them evaluate my ducts. The first time, was on a cold Thanksgiving eve when I was having difficulty finding anyone who would come out within 72 hours. Excellent work today from ABS Heating and Air Conditioning. Our house has 2 ACs and 2 furnaces because we have a full basement. Last week we had another company (who had good reviews and I was already familiar with them) do a maintenance check on our AC and furnace units because of some minor problems we were experiencing. Well, after two hours of messing with the wiring, replacing some capacitors, and $280 later, that prior company left one of the AC units worse off than it was. The air was not cool at all, and the blower could run for hours without dropping the temperature a degree. I didn't notice until that night, that the air was not cool at all. I considered bringing back the original company but decided to get a second opinion instead -- so I called ABS. They came out with two personnel Bob and Dennis, and in less than hour, they had found and fixed at least two separate wiring problems that were caused by the first company, and they topped off the R-22 in one of the units (in all fairness, the original company said we were a little low on R-22, but that turned out to not be the cause of the lack of cold air... it was a wiring problem. The low R-22 was in the other unit that still produced cool air). The best part is ABS' hourly rate was $85 even with two personnel (much cheaper than the first company!), and they even cut me a break because they could have charged more for working on two units, but they did not. I think they felt sorry for us due to our prior experience. Aside from the labor, I did buy 2 lbs of R-22 at $75/lb, which seems fair. The equipment that ABS brought with them looked much more capable than the simple meter that the other company used. I was very impressed that they could show me the temperature of the coils as well as the air temperature, and how it was changing as they made their adjustments.
