Enjoyed another great happy hour at Acropolis Greek Tavern! They have limited the happy hour menu to a few appetizers but it's still worth putting into the rotation especially because happy hour is served until 7:00PM. I've been to the majority of the Acropolis locations over the years and this is my least favorite one. I went out with some girlfriends last month and chose this one over Tarpon because there was a dancer that night and Tarpon doesn't. Basically everyone in my group dances, a couple of them professionally, so we had high expectations on that end. I wasn't the only one let down that it was just a cute 20year old girl who's probably never taken a class before, in a costume. She did her two or three songs at around 9pm in a central space our table behind the host stand couldn't really see, and she didn't do any table interaction like every other dancer at any other restaurant with a dancer. If you're looking for entertainment factor in the immediate area I would probably suggest Byblos instead. As for food, it was fine. I decided to get the app sampler because I had a light early dinner already. Nothing remarkable but no complaints. There weren't any issues at our table that I was aware of. Our waitress was very nice but when part of our group wanted to pay and leave she was MIA and we had to have someone go find her. Minor complaint - I hate valet and there's only like 4-5 non valet spots. read more

Literally adding $7-10 to the cost of dining out because the restaurant chose to charge patrons to park in its lot. Second, the service was so-so; very slow. Lastly, the meal, was so-so. My chicken was very well done, almost burnt. My diet coke was delivered with no ice and it was flat. The best thing about my meal were the Greek fries...ketchup is a wonderful thing! Four opas for Acropolis on Kennedy. I'd been to the locations in Riverview and Ybor several times, but hadn't been here until this year. Now I've stopped in three times-and have eaten inside in a booth-out on the patio and at the bar. It's been solid every way, on every day. There's Greek music playing as you come in the door and the servers/staff are always welcoming and nice. It has a swanky feel, even at lunch time. It always seems like I'm far away, on vacation when I'm here... even though I'm just 10 miles from home. The interior isn't big, but I like how they've arranged things... and the patio is large/really nice-especially in our gorgeous Tampa late winter/springs. I think it goes nightclub later in the day. I've gotta grab the gang and come back for that. They have a tempting menu-and I've enjoyed the spanakopita, dolmades and several different salads. There are also some enticing drink options... especially the Caliope's dream. It's looked different, the two times I've tried it-but tasted the same: spectacular. (Heads up, though: it's strong... and you have to like licorice. It's made with a middle eastern spirit with that as the base flavor). You also can't go wrong with the saganaki (flaming cheese(. It's always a show stopper... and the pita bread is outstanding. The parking lot is small at this location (it's between Miguel's and ABC Liquor, at Kennedy and MacDill) but you can park on the side streets, in the residential area right behind it. This is fine place for a Mediterranean lunch. I came here with family. We were a party of 6. We had reservations for Sunday lunch, and we were seated immediately on the patio. Be aware that hookah smokers are all seated in this area, so if you are smoke-sensitive, you might want to eat inside. There's a kids menu, but we decided to order family-style and have the kids eat adult food. I did look at the kids menu and appreciated that they have gyro on it in addition to the more typical kids menu items. We ordered for the table: the fried calamari, the Acropolis salad, the grilled branzino, the lamb shank and the lamb popsicles. The fried calamari was excellent. Perfectly crispy with a tempura-styled batter. The salad was very good. Lots of gyro meat, wish the feta was crumbled so we could share it more easily, but otherwise, all very tasty. The grilled branzino was good, especially the side facing upwards. The underside of the fish got a little soggy and for whatever reason tasted more fishy. The lamb portions were very good (so were the accompanying potatoes and grilled veggies), although I thought the lamb shank was too sweet and the lamb chops tasted of burnt carbon from the grill and needed a bit more salt. The garlic sauce that came with it needed more seasoning. Our server was very sweet and helpful. She even reminded us that as a party of 6, a 20% gratuity was already added. read more

Rather disappointed! We walked in and it took a few minutes for someone to actually notice us a the door. We sat at a table of our choice, and waited I'm guessing almost ten minutes. Thru out our time there, while waiting for our food, others have coma in as well, and got their drinks and food in a timely matter while we still waited. My granddaughter and I loved Acropolis in Riverview. This is not my first visit, ai have been to this local any times as well as the one in Ybor and Tampa. I do hate that they no longer have the Scallop entree (it was my go to) and they also not longer have the whole fried Snapper and it has been replaced by baked (you just can't beat the outside when it's fried) but other than that I still very much love Acropolis and I am always happy to visit here. They start you out with Pita and to die fir Feta dip, I could make a meal off that alone it's sooooo delicious. I only rated 4 because the sauce of my Shrimp Tino was too thick, not hot enough and underseasoned (needed garlic and salt). Other than that food and service was fantastic, shrimp was fresh, tasted great and the perfect size. Highly recommend Acropolis. I also love their Greek salad, hummus, Seafood wrap, K-Bobs, Schwarma, Gyros, rice, Seafood dish and Athenian Fish is to die for. read more

This was one of the most disturbing restaurant experiences I have ever had. We were served tap water that tasted like sewage. Not "off," not "unusual," but literally like sewage. After taking a drink, we immediately questioned the waitress because the taste was so bad. The waitress told us that they were having a sewage problem with their water and offered to bring bottled water instead. What is completely unacceptable is that no one informed us of this before serving the water. If staff knew there was a problem, customers should have been warned before being given something to drink. After leaving the restaurant, I contacted the city water department to report what we had been told. I was informed that there was no reported sewage issue with the city's water supply. That only raised more concerns about what we experienced and why we were given that explanation. Regardless of the cause, being served water that tasted like sewage and then being told there was a sewage problem is not something any customer should experience. The entire situation left us questioning the restaurant's sanitation standards and management's handling of a serious concern. We left deeply disappointed and with no confidence in returning. Safety and transparency should never be optional in a restaurant. read more

We stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon and this would be our second time visiting. They weren't very busy while we were there and our server was Kyle. The food was just as delicious as the first time we were there. We live in Ocala and had our grandson visiting us and he had never been to a Greek restaurant so with that and wanting to come back it was a perfect time. They sat us near a table of 6 women, so it was fairly loud, but we also realized there was nothing to soften the sound as the ceilings are high with nothing to absorb the sound. The menu is nice, and not eating Greek food often, I was a bit out of my element. At the recommendation of my friend, I got a chicken skewer which had naan, Greek fries and an amazingly large salad. The salad was very good. The chicken was tender and the sauce was good. The fries were just dotted with feta cheese. Service aaa just ok. They had the buy one get one free special for the sangrias and let me tell you something; they are delicious, I sipped slow so I wouldn't drink too fast and feel good. I had my bf help me because whoa I was feeling nice! I ordered the CHICKEN RHODES- Grilled chicken breast in a manatari sauce, sautéed with artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach and olives. Topped with crumbled feta cheese (no cheese) and served with orzo and roasted veggies. My bf got the chicken gyro- Seasoned grilled chicken topped with tomatoes, onions, lettuce and tzatziki (no sauce ) wrapped in pita with a side of fries. The server was on it, she knew when to check on us and she made time to chat with us even though she was busy. She was so cool! My dinner tonight was absolutely wonderful sitting in their outside dining area with the exception of a guy who was walking around his table while smoking a cigarette. Our service was great, and we enjoyed starting with Happy Hour drinks. Titos was only $6. They also have half priced appetizers with the exception of the seafood ones. We started with the sampler of dips/spreads with pita bread and the fried calamari. The Calamari was so tender, and the four different dips were creamy and perfect with the fresh baked pita bread. The Lamb chop entree was cooked perfectly (rare), and we subbed the potatoes for a small side Greek salad. I didn't love the Greek dressing because it was a little sweet, but with a few lemons squeezed in, it made it perfect to my taste buds. The meatballs with orzo were a filling sized portion, and the meatballs were tender with just the right amount of sauce. Our server was very good and the kitchen prepared everything very well. I will definitely return as everything was great, but next time, I would prefer to sit inside where there will not be anyone smoking next to my table. read more

They got super busy and we did not see our waitress from the time she brought our food till the end of the meal. No drink refills. The people at the table next to us actually got up and went looking for the waitress so they could pay their bill and leave. When she finally resurfaced, she barely apologized. We mentioned that there was a birthday at the table AGAIN, and she said we should have said something when we walked in. She didn't care; she was going to make a lot of tips since they were busy. The atmosphere here is always great and friendly! The food usually doesn't disappoint but I ordered take out tonight and quality was not up to par as it usually is. I had the Siros Salmon with the "Signature" Red pepper sauce on the side. I usually absolutely love this dish but tonight I got a nice crispy piece of salmon with overcooked orzo and veggies. And the sauce was below subpar, definitely not the same recipe as I remember; this sauce was watery and lacked flavor as well as the color you'd usually see with the roasted red pepper. -Over all average meal tonight.
