The bar: Great bar atmosphere: upscale, wood, not too light, pleanty of space without feeling empty. Great selection of everything from bourbon to scitch to beer to vino. The restaurant: also nice atmosphere as it is contiguos to the bar. The service started out stellar as the sommellier dropped by my table to introduce himself. The service dropped off when the server tried to oversell us on every freaking course. He finally backed off a little after I offered him a taste of our wine. Extremely expensive wine list. We were a group of five who went for a dinner at The Atlanta Grill during a visit to the city. Since the reservations were made by our hotel concierge we didn't first realize that the restuarant was located within the Ritz Carlton. Upon arrival therefore we had even higher expectations. I would say for the most part that the food was adequate but not exemplary in any way. I realize its the Ritz, but even then it was steeply overpriced for the food quality. But the thing that jarred the most was the service. Our server (Shawn) was professional enough, but not friendly or even particularly helpful with the ordering. There was a AAA 4-diamond sign in the lobby of the Ritz as well as directly in front of us where we were seated at the restaurant. So when I gave the credit card to pay for our meal, I politely inquired about any AAA rebates. The server practically rolled his eyes, smirked and emphatically said "No". I truly felt belittled by this. Is it wrong to inquire about getting the best rate for the meal one has consumed? One comes to a high rated restaurant for a good dinner experience, not to be judged and looked down upon by the waiting staff. You will not find me returning to this place. Located in the Ritz-Carlton Downtown, Atlanta Grill serves up traditional Southern fare, with some steakhouse and seafood staples thrown into the mix. I've got to believe their clientele is mostly out-of-towners on business trips (such as myself), but my hope is that the cuisine remains representative of the city's taste buds at-large. If so, Atlanta is delicious. The She-Crab Soup is a must. One of their house specialities, it's more chowder than bisque, with healthy lumps of crustacean to make sure you're gettin' your money's worth. Here I am with clients, scraping the bottom of my bowl. Yes, it was that good, and yes, I'm that embarrassing. But I'm a soup guy - always have been - and this is one of my favorites anywhere. Quote me. I ordered the short ribs for my entree and they certainly fit my stereotyping of food in the South - heavy and unforgiving. After all, they were sitting on cheddar grits. But what was fantastic about the meat was that it shredded itself upon contact with silverware to the point where a knife was barely necessary. So, while the texture was there, it could've been kicked up a notch in the flavor department, and at $34 a plate, well... let's just say, I'm glad this dinner was on the company dime. read more

Atlanta Grill at The Ritz-Carlton Atlanta, has a bourbon street feel. They have a large long outdoor balcony where if you so choose you can have lunch/dinner while watching the cars drive past. Because you are in Downtown Atlanta I don't know why you would subject yourself to that noise but you can. The food and service is typical Ritz-Carlton. I always have to remind myself this is a hotel first and a restaurants second, and the service is still second to none. Our waiter was friendly and told us the soups of the day and sandwiches of the day. I had a Lobster BLT and a cup of soup. The soup was good, not amazing. Then the lobster BLT arrived. The sandwich came out with a half lobster piled on top, 4 strips of bacon, two tomatoes and a beautiful leaf of lettuce. I started to try and eat my sandwich but quickly found that a knife and fork would get me going better. A note to restaurant owners. If you want to get on this reviewers good side feed me lobster and bacon! To my kosher readers, don't worry your only missing out on one of the best food stuffs I've put in my mouth. But then again you have bagels and lox so bravo. Four stars to Atlanta Grill, make sure to try this option downtown if you are looking for a place to eat for lunch, the service and food are top notch. Not only did she give me amazing recommendations but I really enjoyed her company. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Impeccable service, but a needlessly pretentious and extremely limited menu. Apologies for the long review. We travel to most of the Saints away games, and have been to Atlanta before and like to try different places. We stayed at a nice boutique hotel across the street from the Ritz-Carlton (by choice based on experience with the Ritz in Chicago). To the review: We walked in on Saturday after lunch about 2ish the day before the Saints-Falcons season opener. Traffic was light and we were seated immediately. Servers and support staff were all very engaging, attentive and genuinely friendly. Efficient too. No issues whatsoever with the service. Now to the menu and its implementation: To begin, it is ridiculously limited. 4 items on main fare for the lunch: Burger, crab cake, quesadilla, or hanger steak. Plus a couple of salads. The appetizer menu was a bit more ample and we chose a small assortment: The chicken biscuit, bruschetta, cheese sampler, and southern spreads. The chicken biscuit was a tasty, "deconstructed" open faced item with a possibly homemade bread and butter pickle skewered on as a garnish, and pumpkin butter. Very Good The bruschetta was not well thought out. The tomatoes were halved cherry tomatoes of the "heirloom" variety in a range of colors. They were placed on top of a very large crostini (think of a thin slice the size of a small hoagie roll), which was truly rock hard, with a melted cheese. It was virtually impossible to slice and serve and eating it proved that the slicing wasn't worth the trouble. Fail. The cheeses were a nice assortment and all good quality, as were the crackers. Good. The Southern Spreads included a pimiento cheese and a peanut hummus. The bread and crackers served with it were very good. The pimiento spread was fine and apparently freshly made but unspectacular. The peanut hummus is an epic fail. Think savory peanut butter made in a blender, with a nice, slightly grainy texture but nothing else to recommend it. Basically it is peanut butter, and not in a good way. The peanut flavor overpowered any nuance of other ingredients and really begs the question, "why bother?" The chicken quesadilla was good but certainly not $18 good. Definitely had better at the local taquerias here in the small town I live in. I had the burger. It was a good burger and I liked the jalapeno marmalade under the cheese. Excellent beef, great texture and cooked exactly as requested and the fries were fine. The ketchup was some ridiculous small square jar of "authentic" artisinal ketchup and frankly it sucked. I set it aside. Really people, what's wrong with just putting Heinz in a ramekin with a garnish or something? We shared the brussels sprouts and they were good also. Overall, service was excellent, food mixed and the menu needs to be reconsidered in my opinion. Final thought: No phone service available in the dining room and no wi-fi either. Yes, I know that some people think you should put the phone away and converse, etc. But SOME OF US are trying to make ad hoc plans on the fly and you just can't do it if you don't have service. Had a night here at the Ritz and thought since it was raining that we would keep it easy and eat dinner at The Atlanta Grill. I was really hoping for a grand experience, but all we got was an over-priced menu with just okay service. Our waiter was "nice" but didn't offer any personality. The man tho who served us our food seemed more upbeat and friendly. I used to wait tables and I know a little banter back and forth goes a long way... especially when we were sat early and it wasn't too busy yet. We shared the crab cake which was pretty good. I got the Caesar Salad and was asked if I wanted to add chicken, salmon or shrimp. I thought why not and added shrimp. I had NO idea that the 5 added shrimp cost more than the salad alone! So, I had a salad for $26 bucks. ha My mistake by not asking how much the shrimp would cost... FYI Salad was $12 dollar and the added shrimp were $14! It did taste pretty good tho - glad I could enjoy the meal before knowing how much I spent on shrimp alone! ha Being from San Francisco I don't think I've ever spent that much before. I also had the She Crab soup that was a large amount, really rich but good. My Mom had the special which was a Filet Mignon with some rich crab sauce on top. She only liked the steak and the grits. -If you don't mind over spending for mediocre food go here. The environment was nice and upbeat. -Try the Toasted Grits... My boss and I decided to just walk around to find dinner and we decided on Atlanta Grill. You have to enter from the Ritz Carlton hotel entry and then walk upstairs to the entryway. Service was pretty good. They took the time to find out your name so they could have the staff all address you by name. Although, some staff could probably use a class in assumptions, because too many times I was addressed as my boss's.................extremely young wife?................................daughter? In any case, I didn't mention it because it wasn't a big deal at the time, but please, two Asians walking in together are not necessarily related. Started with their complimentary bread...so yummy! especially the chive biscuit. I could eat those all day. There are limited menu items so I ended up going with the steak tartare with a side of giant baked potato and it was GIANT! Steak tartare was mustary but pleasant. Couldn't finish the potato. I'm reading the other reviews, and I'll preface my review by saying that I had one dinner here and my experience was fabulous. Feeling a bit lazy, my wallet became a little bit more pliable since I was staying in the adjacent hotel. I met a colleague up for dinner and sat on the outdoor balcony. I found the service to be quite good, but my dish was amazing. Not amazing in a satisfying way, but amazing in the "wow, I have never quite had anything like this ever and its damned good." I ordered a pan seared grouper (white fish) over lightly fried potatoes (think hash browns but thinner and not greasy) with a cherry and marinated red onion compote. It was really amazing...really amazing. Sweet, savory with great texture and not too heavy. The fish was perfectly cooked. My collegue ordered cheesy shrimp and grits which I sampled-- very good and a oxtail/mushroom ravioli as an appetizer. I also sampled...also very good. However, I would say after the fish, my next favorite was the brandy banana bread pudding with a small scoop of mudslide ice cream. So good, I had an 11pm craving for it the next day. My oh my. Would I come here again? Oh yes. Was my wallet a bit lighter? Definitely. About $45 removed from my purse. Worth it? Without a doubt. read more

Took hubby here for his birthday dinner. I'll start off with this: when you go to the Ritz Carlton, you expect the best-in-class service, and that is exactly what we got. We arrived about 30 minutes before our reservation expecting to sit at the bar; however, to our surprise, our table was already ready, so we decided to kick off our drinks there. We were escorted to a lovely private area, dimly lit, with rose petals about the white table cloth ... very romantic. Hubby was impressed and smiling from ear to ear. Our table had a curtain that you could pull close, and we did briefly take advantage of that as the night went on. The food was fabulous ...what do you expect; although my lamb and hubby's filet was a bit bland for our tastes, but nothing a little salt and fresh pepper couldn't fix. The sweet potato fries were awesome. We really appreciated the southern flare on the menu. The atmosphere at the Ritz Downtown is southern, yet trendy and hip. Our drinks were very tasty, and by the end of the night, we had had a very memorable time. I was skeptical of the other poor reviews as they seemed to lack context or focused on attitude, etc... I'm in a service industry so I usually err on the side of value being the most important aspect of judging product. I frequently cluck about clients or travelers who have champagne taste on a beer budget. This time, I'm the mad critic. Two night guest at Ritz. Room service breakfast and service was a 90. As good as other RC's. After long day, biz partner and I decided to eat in the hotel before turning in for a long drive the next day. I wandered into the packed restaurant in Friday night. I was not greeted. I wandered out to the veranda and found my partner. We had to ask for a cocktail menu. Took several minutes and no offer for another drink. When we finally ordered, the drinks took no less than 30 minutes to come from the bar. JD single barrel on rocks was half low ball with 50% melted ice and watered down. Waiter must have let it sit for at least 20 minutes. Partner asked for recommendation on dinner and got ambivalent response - bizarre Shrimp cocktail - ice cold and good. 90%. Cocktail sauce was mysterious and terrible. 10% I had petit filet 6 oz. cooked well. Seasoned well. Served on plate alone, no garnish with 2" marrow bone piece. Brussel sprouts came in mini croc broiled and crispy - good - interesting. Collards where worse than the Old Country Buffet. Slimy, too salty, no pork. 99/100 BBQ shacks would have better greens. Partner order peach cobbler - we are in GA right? I'm still shocked and not sure that we were not part of a sociological experiment... It was horrendous. We each tried a spoon and almost choked. Imagine a creme brûlée dish with some canned peaches with a cup of sugar and granola sprinkled on top then tossed in a microwave. To top things off, as I don't expect a word class restaurant to be in every Ritz, our waiter was so horrible that it led to a dinner conversation about what's wrong with American workers today. He was less attentive and polite than the 17 year old kid at Chic-Fil-a off I-85. He stared away when talking. He was helped by 3 other folks and still could serve our table. He had no personality. This restaurant was grossly understaffed for a Friday night. The hotel was sold out and needed at least 10 more employees in the restaurant. If you stay at this RC, enjoy your breakfast by room service and find somewhere else to eat lunch and dinner. read more

I stay at the Ritz Carlton about every 4-6 months and usually dine one night at the Atlanta Grill to have their Savannah style purloo. I like all the different flavors blending together but it wasn't as good as normal this past time: maybe one oyster and no okra. Service is never outstanding but not so slow as to be worth complaining about. To be fair, I often dine alone and generally prefer to spend less time in the restaurant versus when I am with others. If you are on business and have a daily limit for meals (mine is $70), a second glass of wine with your entree will use up most of that. read more

Ok, complaining that the prices are high at the Ritz is akin to whining about the cost of the fuel for your 60' yacht. That said it is pricey. I happen to like this stuffy, old school environment compared to the nouveau whatever that some of the newer bars and restaurants are adorned in. Service was great and the scallops were truly outstanding. The pesto, red peas, green bean, and bacon base, topped by fresh, perfectly cooked scallops was memorable. And, the kitchen took off the scallop membranes (the tough, chewy parts) before cooking - you can't always count on this from my experience. Cheap: no; worth it: yes. read more

Bad service, creamer was obviously old/warm (it turned to gelatin the minute it hit my coffee) and the food was on par with something that you might get at an amusement park. I had an excellent meal here before a concert at the Phillips Arena. It's in the Ritz and a very nice restaurant. The hostess was very friendly and we sat in the bar area. Our bartender was efficient and friendly, but he disappeared halfway through the meal and did not have anyone look after us for about 10 minutes, which was not very Ritz caliber. The food runner did not have any idea about what the sauce was with my steak and there was no one else around. Again, minor issue, but not up to what you expect at a Ritz. Love the location and food, service needs a boost. Food: A- Service: B Location: A Decor: A- Prices: High Bar/drinks/wines: Very good Will return for a meal, but I hope they attend to service issues. Reminiscent of what the Ritz is known for, which is service. My last visit here was for brunch, and I had the buffet. Lots of options...freshly made eggs and omelets, potatoes, bacon, sausage, French toast, grits, oatmeal, lots of pastries, muffins, breads/toast, tons of fruit, cereal, coffee and juice. Great option for any of the events that occur on Peachtree St. The restaurant does an amazingly orderly job managing their patio so that only the people who are eating at the tables get to go outside and keeps the riff raff wanderers out :) Atlanta Grill is located on the 2nd floor...you go up the stairs immediately upon entering the hotel. read more

This recent evening, the weather was absolutely perfect for outdoor dining with low humidity and temperatures in the low 70s. So, even though the interior of Atlanta Grill is beautiful, I just couldn't resist sitting outside. Atlanta Grill's patio overlooks Peachtree Street and provides some pretty nice views of the nearby buildings. Of course, there was the occasional street noise, but it didn't stop us from enjoying our dinner one bit. Just after being seated, we were introduced to Silvio, the restaurant's resident Sommelier. Although he really knows his stuff, he is completely humble about his knowledge, wanting to make suggestions never forcing his opinion on guests. The wine list is very diverse and I could have easily spent 30 minutes perusing it looking for the perfect wine, but we thought why not let the expert pick out our wines for us. He made some great choices that really opened up as we ate our meals. But more on that in a minute. The menu isn't huge, but has some standouts. It is mostly seafood and steaks with a couple southern favorites thrown in, a nod to the old south. A recent addition, is the Smokehouse dining options. The Smokehouse items are salmon, ribs, chicken or beef brisket. I hear that Chef Bennett Hollberg, Chef de Cuisine at Atlanta Grill has a real passion for smoking foods and it was his idea to add the Smokehouse options to the menu. I had seen the Ox Tail ravioli on the online menu and decided I couldn't miss that dish. The pasta was so fresh tasting. I'm not sure if it is made in house, but it sure tasted like it. The meat, while tender, was a tad on the salty side. Silvio paired my ravioli with a Pinot Noir. When our server mentioned the special of the evening, an 8 oz filet with lump crabmeat on top - I was sold. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp and grits. Between the rolls, appetizers and entrees, this was plenty of food for the two of us, especially if we had any intention of eating dessert. But as sides aren't included with meals, I at least wanted to sample a side dish while I was here. Portions are large and one is plenty for two people. So with little discussion, we both agreed on asparagus. My filet was cooked medium and was extremely tender. I almost didn't need the knife. The crab was delicious as well, not just thrown on top, but baked on top (see pics at http://atlanta-restaurantblog.com/?p=2593). I really love that the Atlanta Grill isn't stingy with the crab portion as sometimes restaurants can be - no crab shortage here. The meal, although simple, was very flavorful, probably what happens when you have fresh, quality food and know how to cook it right. And, while I did enjoy the wine reduction sauce, the meal can certainly stand alone. My boyfriend's dinner was equally as delicious. I'll admit, when he placed his order I thought to myself "shrimp and grits, really?" I have had shrimp and grits plenty of times, but never tasted any quite as unique as these. Aside from the fact that the shrimp were large, fresh and cooked perfectly, there was a hint of spicy tomato mixed in the grits that gave it an overall sweet and spicy taste. As for my wine? Well, it was like liquid velvet - all 3 glasses! Good thing I wasn't driving home. All great recommendations from Silvio. I really appreciated the fact that he gives guests a choice of two or three wines that will pair well with their meal rather than forcing them into the one of his choosing. I almost forgot to mention the asparagus. Not a slight at the asparagus, just because there's so much to say about the food. This jumbo asparagus was crisp and buttery at the same time. The cheesecake we selected besides the beautiful plating, was creamy, sweet and just enough to fill us up without feeling gluttonous. If you haven't been able to tell by now, there's a BIG emphasis on unparalleled service at Atlanta Grill. Staff works together to provide an outstanding meal and experience, all while making it seem effortless. Looking around I could tell there were several groups celebrating special occasions, and Atlanta Grill was certainly a great choice for it. read more

Ok I went here as part of Atlanta Restaurant Week. That means that there was a special $35 dollar menu of salad/entre/dessert. You can easily spend $225 for two ( they do comp the valet parking for the first 3 hours). The wait staff is suitably snobby, which means the all have fake Cajun accents & will forget to bring regular black pepper to your table. My date ate off of the 35 dollar menu. She got purlot which is some kind of rich peoples gumbo. Plus they made the salad the appetizer. She was not amused. I ate off the normal menu & got salmon (or was it trout, go figure) which I have to admit was quite tasty. It was a balmy evening & we ate on the balcony overlooking Peachtree. I know other reviewers have complained about the street noise, but c'mon people. Atlanta is like the 9th largest city in America, what do you expect! We found the balcony charming even though we got the last table out there. Anyhoo, the highlight of the evening was the homeless man singing Otis Redding songs under the balcony. Appropriately enough he sounded uncannily like Otis. With talent like that, he must have an amazing story. We ended the meal with some kind of authentic cherries in a mason jar with a half a graham cracker thrown in for crust. Frankly I was just not impressed although one could easily imagine the Scions of the South smoking cigars what with the veritable forest of wood that is the main dining rooms. My take, go to Legal Seafood for about half the price & a much better meal. read more

I came here for the breakfast buffet this morning. At $25 a person, it is okay. Don't get me wrong, the food is not bad, it just wasn't worth $350 in my opinion. They have an omlette station (basica stuff, no gourmet cheeses), potatoes (clue, regular, and sweet, really nice touch), bacon, sausage links and patties, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, pastries, bagels, cold cuts, and smoked salmon. I think that's everything they offer, at least today. It wasn't a great selection, but it was everything you would need for breakfast. I don't know what to say really, service was impeccable and orange juice was delicious, but at the end of the day it was a standard breakfast, nothing special. read more

I expected more - a lot more! In Nov. 2014, I made reservations for a friends Bday. She was in Atlanta that week on business & unable to celebrate. The restaurant decorated the table & everything started great. Server recommended a sashimi special to start & we agreed. The meal was good, wine good, the split table with different heights, NOT so good & a drink was spilled. But the disaster began after we left. I became violently ill, requiring an ambulance to get me to the hospital. Once released, we reported the incident to hotel and restaurant management. They promised to follow up, and with a half hearted "we're sorry", sent us on our way. They didn't offer a refund, complimentary meal, or even a follow up call. I don't expect to get food poisoning from ANY restaurant - but The Atlanta Grill especially! But the customer service after the fact was the worst. 5 Star? No way! read more

The service was disappointing, given that it was a Ritz-Carleton. I must say that waiters were pretty armatures. While we were having lunch, 2 tables out of 5 tables at the patio were really upset and managers had to apologize them and take care of their bills. We also experienced really slow service and one of our orders was not placed but we only ordered 3 things, though. It's pity that the service was't that good but the food was good? I wish they have more pride working at one of the best hotels to serve their guests. read more

We found this place on Opentable.com. We wanted to find a dinner place a little fancier in the downtown ATL area. The place is in the Ritz-Carlton and provides great Southern food. When we were there, it was during Restaurant Week, so we tried a little of everything. The dishes were small portions but delicious! The cheddar grits is not to be missed. It's expensive, but the food is good. I was so worried about not getting full because a lot of fancy restaurants place their primary interest on food presentation but "Atlanta Grill" gives you a very nice portion of food along with great presentation. Kudos to the Chef over there. The collard greens had a little too much vinegar for my taste, but since I'm originally from the south, I could tolerate it. If you dine at the restaurant, valet parking is free, which is a nice amenity. It didn't take forever to get the car and I liked how the valet offered bottle water while we waited. It's a great place to celebrate a special occasion or impress a first date. There was live music and the service was great. I enjoyed it. read more

We stayed at the Ritz and tried Atlanta Grill for dinner. It was great! I had the scallops, and my hubby had the NY Strip. Everything was cooked perfect. I would recommend. My house salad was exceptional with spicy pecans, grapes, and blue cheese. Service was good too so we went back for breakfast. The restaurant is a good looking room. The service was attentive. The food was timely. The wine list could be a little stronger. The portions on the sides could be larger at ten bucks a pop. The entree pricing was very reasonable as was the wine pricing. Had a great time. read more

The service in this place is below the DMV. My wife and I waited 45 minutes for breakfast only to receive it cold.
