This place would've easily got a 3.5+ stars if it weren't for our Beef / Lamb Tenders coming out so charred. The complimentary pita and hummus was delicious, but our main entree was a disappointment. What could've been great, ended up otherwise. The salad was a tad bit too oily for my liking, but that wasn't my biggest gripe. The tenders were difficult to eat because of all the burnt edges. I don't know if it's cause we came towards closing or what, but being that there was practically no one else in the restaurant, I think you could've done a much better job grilling our meats and ensuring that our meat wasn't so burnt. Food aside, it's tucked away in a random plaza behind all these business buildings and is less than half a mile away from Planet Granite. At a glance, the restaurant looks tiny cause all you can see is the front counter when you walk in and a side of the place. However, when you actually walk in, you'll realize that it is actually pretty deep in. I'm sure this place does decently well considering there aren't many other restaurant alternatives within walking distance. Don't think I will come back though. :c read more

Ordered the gyro plate which was HUGE as you can see in the picture. Large venue. Sit down place, not uncommon to have 50+ sitting inside, especially on Fridays. Outside patio with umbrellas and patio furniture so you can sit in the sun. Outstanding food value. Most dishes are around $10.00 maybe 11-12 for the fancier more expensive dishes like lamb or fish. All orders include pita bread cut into triangles with baba ganoush appetizer. Dishes come with a choice of carbs, usually rice, or fries or cup of fruit. Dishes with rice usually include soup. Lemon Rice soup is very good. Very tart, very lemony. Kids would love this. Not sweet like most everything else you get in an Americanized version. I hate sweet, it destroys the natural flavor when they add sugar. Specials on Fridays because of the volume. Specials can include grilled trout, roasted chicken, lamb shanks, beef stew with okra, none of these specials are on the menu. You have to go here and try them. Many Greek dishes are similar to Arabic food. Bamia is a Arabic lamb stew with okra, other vegetables in a tomato sauce with pomegranite juice, cooked till fork tender. Tastes slightly sweet and sour with the thickness of the stew from cooking the okra. Very good over rice, nothing comparable in other cuisines. Another variation is without the okra but reddened with a combination of red wine, cinnamon, cloves, etc.. open to interpretation. Beef gyros very popular, chicken a bit dry. Chicken doesn't appeal to everybody. Tenders are very good, tenderloin part, chicken, beef, maybe lamb. The marinade for the chicken is very good, served over rice. ~$8-9 for a falafel plate, baba ganoush+ pita and garlic fries. Enough for 2. Was so full couldn't touch the garlic fries. Can add roasted eggplant to the falafel. Very good, the eggplant is marinated in something, maybe something with balsamic vinegar. If you like eggplant, the softness of the eggplant contrasts nicely with the crunchy of the falafel. $1/addition is worth it in my opinion. Also keeps the falafel moist. Falafel with eggplant very very good. Eggplant is a $1.00 addon. Worth it. Contrast between the crunchy of the falafel balls and smoothness silkiness of roasted eggplant. Better food value and flavor than falafel drive in. No banana shakes but you won't be able to finish it. Incredible amount of food for price. Usually enough for 1.5-2 meals. Don't overeat. Stop when full and take the rest home. Overeating isn't healthy. Spikes your blood sugar and lipids causing inflammation. Nothing canned or frozen, everything made from scratch. Vegetarian wrap very good, marinated eggplant, grilled peppers, onions, lettuce. The creaminess of the eggplant contrasts with the crunchy of other vegetables. They don't use super hard veggies like carrots but cucumbers instead. Cucumbers are peeled to remove the bitter from the skin. Salads are ok, not really a salad person. House salad ok, has olives and feta cheese. Too salty for me. House salad has romaine lettuce hearts, tomatoes, sliced peeled cucumbers with house made vinagrette. This seems to be a popular joint for weekday lunches. Luckily, you can make reservations, and there is quite a bit of room for parties. I came with a group of coworkers on a Friday. The place was pretty busy. It's in an odd location in a business park close to Lawrence. Parking can be a pain here. For starters, we ordered the 1) Falafel sampler (crispy and dense...not my favorite) 2) Domla (warm, has meat and some mysterious yellow rice sauce...) 3) Hummus sampler (delicious spread of spreads!) Been here many times in the past and the food has always been consistent and good. I normally get the Lamb gyro and fries for lunch as the kalamata olive dipping sauce is to die for. On this particular evening, I did not feel like having too much carbs so ended up getting a Caesar salad topped with lamb souvlaki and a side of moussaka. I should have stuck with a regular meat-veggie-rice entree or a wrap because my salad was drenched in dressing so I had to pick through it and couldn't finish all. The lamb was also a tad dry and overcooked. The mousakka, thought the exterior looked hard, it was beautifully layered with potatoes, veggies and seasoned sausage - kind of a Greek-style version of an English Shepard's pie. I have always known this place was here, and have always know it was very good, but now having been here 3 times in the last few months as well as at Dish Dash (fancy McCarthy Ranch location) and Athena Grill, I can now say that this place is my favorite Mediterranean place in the bay area. All three places are pretty fantastic for Gyros and typical dishes, but the one dish that puts this place over the top is the Seafood Souvlaki...just a fantastic dish with Prawns, Swordfish, and Scallops...my mouth waters just thinking about it. One giant seafood kebab comes with a really tasty side of tomato stewed veggies and some very good rice--perfectly cooked...super fluffy and light--goes down like air! OH BABY! Agape Grill is another stellar Mediterranean restaurant around the South Bay Area. Agape really hits the sweet spot between providing tasty entrees, gigantic portions, and decent service. My girlfriend and I stopped by one day after work and was glad to have come across this gem. Though it's hidden behind a bunch of corporate offices, Agape Grill definitely attracts a lot of customers. They do catering and events, and the overall atmosphere is very welcoming. When we came in for dinner, there was a private dinner going on, and every one seemed to be having lots of fun! Agape Grill kind of reminds me of places like Oren's Hummus and Dish Dash. They serve a wide range of popular appetizers to go along with entrees such as kebabs and gyros. My girlfriend and I ended up getting their Kefta Kebab and the Biftekia. Both were pretty much the same except the former had grilled sirloin whereas the latter included an herb-meat mix. Furthermore, the Biftekia had fries with the Agape sauce and the Kebab included rice. Overall, the food was pretty good! The meat on both our plates were very savory and flavorful. Portion size was HUGE too! I kinda preferred the meat on my girlfriend's Biftekia because of the herbs and spices. Secondly, the fries on the Biftekia were pretty light yet crispy. Tasted GREAT with the signature Agape sauce (basically an olive-based sauce). The rice in my Kebab was fine but fries all the way. And lastly, the vegetables were just so-so; I wouldn't eat them because I dislike squash haha. So I guess 8/10 for both dishes! In addition, we also got a small plate of pita bread and fresh salad to go with our meal! What a pleasant experience considering that overall we paid less than $20 each for what we ordered. There's a small parking lot and if you get here around 11:30 am then your be able to park otherwise you will need to street park. When we entered, a line was already forming. Basically, you order upfront and are given a number in which you can place on the table you choose. Our food came out fast and my oh my the portions could easily feed 3 people. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get! I ordered the vegetarian mousakka which had layers of eggplant, onion, potato with a tasty béchamel sauce. Everything was delicious and the fries were so good we couldn't stop eating it! It was like the garlic fries at AT&T Park but better if you can believe that. It wasn't too garlicky which was amazing. "Agápe" is one of the Greek words for "love," and in this case I think it fits! My wife and I love this restaurant and even considered having our rehearsal dinner here. :] (On the topic of large parties... Agápe Grill can do reservations for big groups, no problem. If you have 26 or more people, it's doable but with a fixed menu. 15% gratuity included for groups.) I really enjoy the fresh warm pita and hummus, which are refilled free of charge. No need to fill up on bread though, because the portions are very large. They really load up the plates generously. (My friend said his coworkers are never able to finish their lunches when they eat here.) Agápe makes a great gyro, but I like to order the loukániko (Greek sausage) plate. The sausage is flavorful and salty, served with fries and tasty cooked veggies. Each entree ($10-15*) also comes with a nice salad: lettuce, cucumber, tomato, olives, feta, onion. (I'm not into feta, but it's easy enough to avoid.) *: The online menu is a little outdated, but all the prices are still extremely reasonable (especially considering the massive servings). Ah - gah -pee (with the emphasis on the first syllable) Since I just got back from Athens, I have a better understanding on the language phonetics. I used to work right down the street from this place when it was still Leida's and quite empty at the time. After hearing that something new had opened I was surprised to find a Greek place since I was thinking Turkish it was going to be another in the multitude of Turkish places. Though the girl at the register said no, I believe these are the same people who bring you Athena grill or an offshoot of that camp. A lot of the menu is very close and even the olive spread you get with the fries is the same. The space however is huge and it's been remodeled to have the Acropolis style art throughout. They also have a small outside area which is great for sunny days like this. I had the gyro and mixed plate appetizers thinking I'd have two "small" plates for lunch. Turns out I have food for another meal and the togo box weighs about 2 lbs. Gyros, chicken/lamb/beef souvlaki, biftekia, and loukanika comes with fries, olive spread, pita, yogurt, tomatoes and olives. It's a damn lot of food. Needless to say we left satisfied and now I dont have to drive as far as I used to for the food. They're open 7am to 9pm so that's a pretty good spread for whatever your eating habits are. read more

I didn't find any of the souvlaki too memorable. The chicken one was probably the better of all since it wasn't too dry. The loukanika was too tough and salty. Biftekia was alright but the fresh cut fries weren't crispy enough. Falafel Wrap - I did enjoy the falafel here. They were quite crispy with a nice loose texture. The pita bread was nice too. Samaka - They ran out of swordfish so they made it with trout instead. The texture is a bit dry and flavors were slight lacking. I have had better ones at other restaurants. Service was very friendly and the restaurant looks like a great venue for group events since the dining room is huge. Food was just too average for a return visit. read more

Good food. I don't get the feeling that vegetables are frozen at all, as you would in a place like Chillis. Service was wonderful. I checked with our waitress and she mentioned that 4 o'clock is a good time to come in because it's after the lunch rush. 2 dishes, 2 drinks. Bill was $36 without tip. Overall the food quality surpasses Chillis, do keep in mind these two restaurants serve very different foods. read more

Tucked away in the midst of Sunnyvale office buildings is Agape Grill. This place is like the bigger, and more cavernous version of Athena Grill... The menu items are almost identical, in addition to the method of ordering at the counter and getting your own drinks at the soda fountain or refrigerator. Came in with a group of 3, and we all ended up ordering the gyro platter (pretty safe choice). Lots of slices of lamb, greek salad, and pita bread... Definitely filling. Overall, not as tasty as Athena, but sort of makes up for it if you are in a hurry, and need a place to grab some decent Mediterranean fare. There's a parking lot also, which make this spot more accommodating as well. I will definitely be back, since this place is so conveniently located to my clients. With pretty much no other walkable dining options in the vicinity, I could see how this place could be highly rated by the ignorant 9-5ers in the nearby buildings. However, if you have the chance to go somewhere else, Agape Grill is a place I suggest you avoid. I came during lunch time, and the place was filled with employees from nearby buildings. Our order was quickly taken among the usual options you would see at a Greek/Mediterranean joint. Nothing special here. One good thing they have here is free tea, which is essential when order a fatty dish. However, their tea selection at the time was extremely limited to fake holistic hippie decaf green teas. No black tea that you would usually see at a Middle Eastern place. The food: - Lamb Tender ($13): Grilled skewered lamb cubes served with rice and vegetables. We were served tiny pieces of lamb on one skewer that were barely even worth half the price of this. Also, they were red inside, which is how lamb kabobs should never be done. We asked our server to lightly grill them some more to get rid of this. In return, we got charred meat. The only flavor you could taste is that of burnt lamb. No marination, no lamb flavor, just char. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. They pretty much were spot on in every step it takes to ruin a lamb kabob. At least the rice was pretty good... - Spanakopita ($11): A typical Greek pie consisting of spinach, onion, cheese, and eggs between filo dough. I've had plenty spanakopitas before and this was probably the worst I've had. The spinach felt like it was boiled down to the mushiest point possible before falling apart. The cheese is what gives the whole dish flavor, and it was barely present. A spanakopita should be well baked and encompass both the flavors of the spinach and cheese. Here, you just got overly-boiled spinach between two sheets of dough. Pretty much inedible. The salad given with each plate isn't much better either. It felt like it was left over from the previous day. In order to hide that, it was DRENCHED in dressing. There are plenty of other options for Greek/Middle Eastern food in Sunnyvale that are much more worth it. Agape can be easily skipped over without even trying. read more

Delicious food, but a little on the expensive side. I got the Kafta kabob and then my husband and I split an order of baba ganoush. Really enjoyed both of these dishes and I would definitely come back to try some more things on the menu. Next time, definitely going to go for a gyro! If you take Athena Grill's menu, add a larger dining area (and thus no long waits), and food that tastes just as good if not better than you get this place. Stopped going to Athena after I discovered this place because it just took way too long to get lunch at that place. Weekday work lunches are usually pretty unmemorable. There's a limited amount of time, and not too many places serve quick amazing affordable meals, but the last time I ate here I left thinking "Wow that was a really good meal". Ordered the chicken plate with vegetables and rice. I'm usually not a vegetable guy; ask my gf she'll confirm that I'm not a fan for anything green, but the vegetables here were so well done and tasty that I finished everything on my plate. I"ve tried a couple of other meal items here; chicken tikka wrap, lamb wrap etc and they were all really good. Can't go wrong with this place. read more
