Came for lunch recently, and tried 3 dishes: Green onion sesame pie: good portion, but the inside felt undercooked and it was a bit lacking in flavor. House Special Bean Curd: Normally love this dish, and while the flavor was good, the tofu is actually cut too thin so it lacked any chew (or QQ). Fried Red Yeast Pork Belly: Wanted to try something interesting and new, and this was a fun choice. Very interesting and also heats back up well in an oven. Service was friendly. I can't help but feel like they could optimize their table layout a lot better, and perhaps bring in an additional server - there ends up being a very long wait for 2-4 person groups. I watched as some groups ended up changing their order to go because they had waited so long. Street parking outside.

Good place to try Taiwanese Food. Service was good, but server's English was a bit difficult to understand. Ambiance is on the plain side. The food I had was very good. Portions were large and served hot.

I think this is the best Taiwanese military village food that you can find in Los Angeles Everything is so authentic

Once upon a time, in the 90s, the Taiwanese population was small, close knit, like the Jewish community. Your ex's Taiwanese uncle was the angel investor that jump started Jerry Yang's Yahoo.com. Your other friend's uncle was the VP to Terry Gou founder of Hon Hai Precision's (the company that makes all the iPhones), your friend's dad was locked up in Taiwan because he was the head of the United Bamboo Triads. Every Taiwanese person in LA and the West Coast probably had a 2 degree of separation with everyone else. And so like the Italians, you needed family restaurants to congregate at, and Aghoo precisely is that type of restaurant where Taiwanese Boomers and their children go sit down and have comfort food. This is a school of cooking that many chefs from Mainland China simply cannot replicate today. And there were only a few restaurants in Los Angeles 30 years ago capable of doing it: Happy Family Garden Pacific Plaza 新園餐館, Dumpling King 老夫子 Hacienda Heights Vons Plaza, Sin Bala 新芭樂 Arcadia, and Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐 Arcadia Location One. That being said, I've always wanted to go back to Taiwan and apprentice under an old school chef and learn this school of stir-fry, you know, carry on the torch. In Taiwan, you used to be able to go to a street stall and order 100 different types of stir fry for dirt cheap, and so the chefs that had the grit to do it became masters at stir fry, authentic green onion beef not that fake Mongolian Beef created for the American Audience...although I equally like the American version. So yes, it was a sigh of relief when I discovered Aghoo. One of the remnants of a lost art form in the diverse world of cuisine. It was survival for the Boomer generation to stand next to a wok all day, to support the business and to support the family. Unlike Italian food, you can't premake Lasagna, Meatballs, marinara sauce and just assemble everything last minute with fresh cooked pasta. No, Taiwanese stir fry is bittersweet hard labor....very mechanical in nature, and the chef needs to understand all the inputs. So these days, Jurassic Restaurant has closed, Uncle Yu's 印第安啤酒屋 had shut down. Leaving.....Aghoos? And yes, Eat Joy in Rowland Heights. Come to think about it, if you take out Din Tai Fung from the picture, these are the last of the Mohicans..... I'll end here with my walk down memory lane. You want the Taiwanese version of that Italian style Family sit down restaurant, this is it. This is where you will find all the Taiwanese Aunties and Uncles that probably own 10,000 shares of TSMC, 30,000 shares of NVDA, and Jensen Huang eating quietly in the corner.

Aghoo's Kitchen offers excellent Taiwanese cuisine, which is itself a fascinating blend of regional Chinese cuisines. Grab a basket of the fried sesame scallion bread and get something saucy to dunk it in. Green Onion Sesame Pie: This prized basket of northern-style flatbread is probably what most people here are waiting for. The fried bread is cut into wedges with a crispy crackling exterior topped with fragrant sesame seeds. Inside, the bread layers are soft, pillowy, and bursting with green onions. Of course, it was the first thing that arrived, so we each voraciously ate a wedge on its own. Fish Filet with Bean Sauce: If you have enough self control, wait until they bring out the fish. The sauce is thick and savory. There's so much flavor from the minced garlic, fermented black beans, and scallions. The silky sauce seem to find a way into all the nooks and crannies of the stellar bread. Fried Red Yeast Pork Belly: The cooking technique of this dish is pretty cool. This is like a crispy char siu. The rich pork belly is marinated in red yeast rice wine for its aromatic flavor. It is coated in tapioca flour and then fried. The edges are crispy and kind of chewy while the meat is juicy and tender. Tofu Skin, Soy Beans, and Mustard Greens: The super thin tofu sheets and soy beans are a Shanghainese classic. With finely chopped mustard greens, the dish is a delightful study of textures: crunchy greens, chewy soy beans, and snappy from the tofu skin. The flavor is neutral and nourishing. Parking: It looks like there are only street parking spots, which there are plenty of. But, they have a lot in the back accessible through the alley by Alessandro Avenue.

Ahgoo's kitchen offers Chinese cuisine that feels homemade with love. The green onion bread was fluffy and crispy at the same time. I really enjoyed the green beans. The fillet fish in the sauce was very flavorful but not my cup of tea. The service was great, there was only one lady working and she was very sweet and friendly. The food took a while to come out but we assumed it was a mom n pop so there wasn't many workers. Super old school inside kinda like an Asian home vibe.

Fish Fillet with Bean Sauce ($17.95) and Signature Green Onion Sesame Pie ($17.95) take-out. They go so well together! 2/14/2026

It has been a long time since I've had Aghoo's Kitchen. This is an updated review for my most recent takeout experience. I used to order a variety of dishes from here, but this time, I just wanted my two favorite items: Fish Fillet with Bean Sauce ($17.95) and the Signature Green Onion Sesame Pie ($17.95). Both of these needs to be ordered together because dipping the Green Onion Sesame Pie into the Bean Sauce is the perfect flavor combo! Both of these dishes tastes just as good as I remembered. I always use an air fryer to reheat the Green Onion Sesame Pie at home for that crispy texture. The ambiance of this restaurant is a bit sad. Over the years, they have not made any improvements to the decor or any other updates for that matter. It's a very bare bones looking restaurant and honestly, it feels like I'm in someone's garage. However, the lady who is always working here is nice and friendly.

It's a cozy mom and pop shop with the sweetest lady taking orders and serving food. Because it's just her, service does take awhile, but it looks like she has really loyal customers like they know her and she knows them. Lots of togo orders too and the phone was ringing the whole time like it seemed like a super popular place! However ... the food wasn't really to my taste (except for the beef wrap). I will say it looks like every table ordered a soup of some sort so maybe I didn't get the right things? But I ordered things that said "signature" or things that other people seem to have liked so eh maybe it's just not for me. Beef Wrap ($17)-- MY FAVORITEEE!! Super savory, well seasoned, lots of meat, not too sweet. It's actually a really big portion too. Kind of oily though Scallion Pie ($18)-- Do note that it's a pie!! And not the typical scallion pancake!!! It's supposed to be crispy outside and fluffy inside but unfortunately we got limp and soft. Flavor wise there was soooooooooo little salt/flavor whereas the ones I've had before still had a slight saltiness. This one is plain on purpose probably to eat with food? Not my style. Very popular item though! All the tables were ordering this maybe give it a try if you're curious. Seaweed fish ($18)-- VERYYYYYY OILY GREASY like the fish soaked up every drop of oil. Not the "clean fry" I was expecting (and other places do it better). It was too oily and we couldn't finish this. House Special Bean Curd ($18)-- There's pork in here but you wouldn't know unless you can read the Chinese. Just warning the vegetarians, this is not for you!!! However, there is a very tiny amount where the ratio is like 85% tofu 15% pork if I'm being generous. Flavor was ok, but overall very greasy and stingy with pork. We ate this with the scallion pie to give the bread some flavor. Overall I wasn't impressed with the food but I think it's just not my style. The beef wrap is the only reason why it's 3 stars and not 2. The lady was so nice though and kept refilling our tea pot (because we were trying to chase down that grease with hot tea!) and there's a parking lot in the back and easy street parking.

Had to check this place out as I grew up eating Chinese Islamic food and heard their sesame bread was good. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I would eat the sesame bread every day. It was crispy on the outside and so soft and fluffy on the inside. Delicious especially when you dip it in the fish bean sauce. The fish in bean sauce was perfectly cooked and the sauce was savory and a perfect companion to the sesame bread. The mustard green, tofu skin and soy beans was good. I've had better as it was a little too salty. But this dish paired perfectly with everything else we ate. The highlight and unexpected stand out was the pork belly. I honestly didn't know what to expect when we ordered this dish. I thought it would be more like a braised dish. But man was I surprised. This is essentially char Siu that they batter like the Taiwanese pork chops. So you know this is a winning dish. This place isn't too big and they had a line out the door with people waiting for dinner. Definitely come here early. Staff was friendly and as quick as they could be. Definitely will come back.

Finally got a chance to dine in here a few days ago when I came here for lunch on a weekday with some coworkers. It was full inside surprisely but luckily, a table was leaving so we got our table without a wait. We ordered the Beef Rolls, Signature Green Onion Pie, Stir Fried Onions and Beef, and some vegetables. It is a small restaurant that is family style so only one server and the food wasn't served that quickly especially since it was full inside. The food was ready around 20 minutes after ordering. The portions are all decent and looked delicious. The beef rolls were very good, crispy skin and not stingy with the beef inside. The signature green onion sesame pie was also very good, texture is the perfect balance of hard and soft. The only thing was that the vegetables and the stir fried beef was oily. Both tasted good but very oily. Overall, still a great place to go with friends or family. I recommend the beef rolls. They tasted very authentic.

    Bamboo with Ground Pork
    Jonnie N.

Went to Ahgoo's Kitchen and skipped their signature Green Onion Sesame Pie and Beef Roll this time, opting instead for the low-carb Seaweed Fish Fillet and Bamboo with Ground Pork--and it did not disappoint. The bamboo shoots had a deep, smoky wok-hei flavor that paired beautifully with the richness of the ground pork, making each bite savory and satisfying without feeling heavy. The fried fish fillet arrived piping hot, perfectly flaky, light, and well-seasoned, with the seaweed adding an extra layer of umami. Proof that even the "non-signature" dishes here shine just as brightly. Easy 5-star experience.

Angoo's kitchen is my mom's favorite restaurant, we are here pretty much every other week. The owners are very friendly and provide very good service no matter how busy they are. Our favorite dishes are shredded pork with dried bean curd, beef rolls, corn chowder, braised pork belly, and many more. Honestly, we have tried so many of their dishes and are never disappointed. Their foods are always fresh and delicious, highly recommending this restaurant!

The decor felt like walking into a retro Chinese restaurant, felt like I was transported back in time. Service was super quick, called an order and it was ready when I got there. The beef roll is the best I've had!

There used to be several locations across Southern California, and I'm glad the Arcadia location is still here. Every visit brings back memories. The Taiwanese meatball soup is comforting, and the Taiwanese sausage always reminds me of night markets back home. What I appreciate most is that SinBala doesn't just serve street food. It brings those familiar flavors into a warm, home-style setting. It's nostalgic without trying too hard. Before you leave, save room for dessert. Their shaved ice is a must. I always recommend the brown sugar shaved ice topped with five mochi or boba. It's refreshing, not overly sweet, and the perfect ending to a meal. Xiao Long Bao's flavor profile tasted more like steamed dumplings. Beef roll didn't taste as good as I remembered (probably because it had slightly less hoisin sauce), but it was still a good beef roll nonetheless. * Personally G4 Black Pepper Beef Fried Udon ($15.99) was a surprising discovery and an S-tier dish. Yes it had a 3.7 rating but we wanted to give it a shot It's in the same plaza as Summer Rills, Meet Fresh so know that if you go during dinner time , especially during the weekend be prepared for to spend time finding a parking space. Anyway, when we walked into BD, we were surprised at how spare the place looks. there are probably 6 small tables against the wall and the whole middle of the restaurant is empty. i'd guess it's for space customers. anyway they have kiosk or u can order at the counter. when we walked in we were thinking is this fast food Chi ear style should we go somewhere else? But we didn't want to walk out so we stayed. we took a whole to scan the meaning, they actually have noodles under $8. It's not super large it's like medium we got the signature potstickers and dumplings set and the signature noodle and dumplings set. we actually waited about 10minutes or so which was a good sign that it wasn't fast food the signature noodles was tossed with a spicy sauce that's it. it was tasty with a nice kick. i've had better but i still enjoyed it our favorite were the dumpling and the potstickers. they were fresh and very tasty. the dough had a good bite and good crunch on the potstickers. To be honest, we were both pleasantly surprised at the quality of the dumplings. we will definitely be be back to try their pork chop rice and braised pork rice for $10. They have beef noodle soup for $17.50 which i felt was overpriced. overall this is a return place for us

I always order the pepper fried chicken, and it used to be one of my favorites. Lately, though, it…read moreseems like the portion size gets smaller every time I order it. The most recent order was especially disappointing, the amount of chicken I received was nowhere near enough to justify the price. At $8.95, I expect a reasonable portion, but what I got felt more like a side dish than an entree. The flavor is still good, but the shrinking portions are making it hard to keep coming back.

I have been a long time fan of Ding's Garden. I went to their original location in Rowland Heights…read moremany moons ago but have been only returning to their Arcadia location.  There's so many good items on their menu but here are my usual go to: *XLB - juicy and full of flavor. definitely tastes great eating it fresh *fried pork chop (appetizer)  - perfect portion size and crunch.  *shanghai noodles - my kids love this dish and we usually have to order 2. *shrimp fried rice - this one is a good portion size and tastes great.  *pan fried wontons - this is my hubby's favorite. we like to dip this with the XLB dipping sauce. this is surprisingly pretty juicy too so be prepared for it to burst.  If you can't tell by now, this is a great go to spot to fill the belly and not break the bank. Staff are really nice and on top of it. A clean establishment and this Yelper definitely gives it 2 thumbs up.   Tips: Indoor seating only. Accepts credit card. Restroom available for customers. Ask for the sweet chili oil. That's the best, that they keep in a cold fridge. Made fresh and is a great addition to your dishes. Parking is shared with other local businesses i.e. Vons, subway, Yifang, etc.

My friend and I were craving Taiwanese food and came across this spot. We ordered the beef roll,…read morebeef noodle soup and the pork chop fried rice (not pictured, was too hungry). All of the dishes tasted so good. It had a comforting feeling to it. My favorite was the pork chop fried rice. The fried rice had wok hei to it and was flavorful. It didn't just taste like rice and eggs. The pork chop was also very tender! My friend's favorite was the beef noodle soup. He's Taiwanese and ranks this as one of the best ones he's ever had! The beef noodle soup was also flavorful and they give a good amount of tender beef pieces. The beef roll was just okay. The dough could've been a bit thicker and crunchier. It had the texture of a tortilla instead. Service was excellent! The server was quick and attentive. We received our food within 10 minutes of ordering. There is plenty of seating inside and parking is in a shared lot with other businesses. Would come back and would also recommend!
