My friend Charlie recently went to this joint and posted about it. I couldn't stop thinking about it after seeing his pictures, so, two days before their one month vacation, me and slave girl made it in. When we got there during lunch time on a Saturday, the parking lot was fully packed but luckily the street parking was available. The wait in the restaurant wasn't too bad since it was only about ten minutes or so. Unfortunately after we were seated, we were forgotten right away and I saw the waitress taking orders from the group after us. I was like hell no, walked up to her and let her know what's up. She apologized and thought we ordered already and just looked bored waiting for our food to arrive. Everything after that was all good. Note: if you are in an Asian restaurant, please don't assume they know anything and everything. If I did nothing and just sat there waiting, I would have been hangry and nothing would be accomplished. We got some free appetizers, hot and sour soup, leak and fish dumplings, sliced bean curd and pork, beef noodle soup, and the famous green onion sesame pancake. I am not a fan of their bean curd and pork because it was bland and flavorless. If they used a little more salt then it would have been good. Everything else though was amazingly tasty and satisfying. All the noodles, pancake, and dumplings were made in house, and you can totally taste the difference. Their beef noodle soup, surprisingly not spicy but the broth was full of beefy flavor and love. Their famous pancake is indeed worth every penny. Fluffy inside with crunchy out layer, no dipping sauce necessary and plenty of good chews. Something I would love to have more but I got full from just couple of pieces. My go to place for green onion sesame bread. Some people complain about their $13 sesame bread but if you've ever tried making them, you'd know that's paying nothing for the treat. It's very difficult to make yourself at home. Their 3 cup chicken and dumplings are great too. My only reason for one less star is their phones don't always call through. It's only happened to me once so I just drove over to order in person and wait. read more

Long wait. Messy and rude customer service. We've asked to sit down for more than 15min and asked twice for some water, then finally got the water. They don't serve any beef noodle but the chef special menu and regular menu still has it to show customer. Plus, the lady who is rushed to do everything without patience, such as take order. I know you are busy but at least you can wait 1 minute to take away the dishes after we finished to packed up the food. It's offensive to put the dirty dishes cart next to the customer. The AC is so cold even it's already cold outside. And they still leave the door opened and it's getting colder. Food is nothing outstanding except the sesame oil pork. My family decided to come here on a Sunday evening. The restaurant is pretty small so I can imagine it gets pretty packed during lunch/dinner time, so we came here a bit earlier than it opened. We ordered the combination plate, it was a bit spicy but the variety of cold cut appetizers was great! We also got the beef noodle soup.... THE BEST. BEEF NOODLE SOUP. I'VE HAD IN THE STATES. Not exaggerating, I've been looking for BNS ever since I moved to the states, and everywhere has been a disappointment tbh. Their broth is rich and amazing, the meat was tender and the noodle was chewy. 10/10 would order again. All their dishes are quite good and not too greasy like other restaurants. However, this place is a little bit expensive for a mom/pop shop of this sort. As hole in the wall as you can get in the SGV, Ahgoo's Kitchen is a true gem, featuring some deliciously abnormally thick green onion pancakes, solid beef noodle soup, and the most very finely shredded bean curd noodles I've ever had. Run by some down to earth people as most shops of this nature are, you can tell a lot of heart and effort goes into the preparation of the food here. Although the establishment (and its parking lot) are quite small and a bit run down in appearance, Ahgoo's Kitchen also provides take out if you don't want to feel cramped. My family has been going to Ahgoo's Kitchen for years (ever since they started at their El Monte location) but I am sad to say that we probably will not be returning any time soon. We recently went last week and their staff mixed up our table's order with our neighboring table's order so badly that 80% of our dishes "mistakenly" went to the WRONG table. The table next to us arrived 20 minutes after us and got most of our dishes. We had asked the staff after we saw the first 3 dishes get sent over to their table and the staff just brushed it off. We then saw our next 5 dishes get sent over to their table as well. Even items that they did not order, they kept!! We kept asking the staff where our dishes were since we were waiting over an hour after ordering and only received TWO dishes by then. Their staff's constant response was "oh sorry. we're still preparing your dishes in the back." Meanwhile, we saw tables who came in substantially after us receive all their dishes. It was not until all the other tables received their dishes when their staff frantically started cooking our items. At this point, we were pretty fed up and asked to cancel some of our items considering how long it was taking. They refused to let us cancel, claiming they were "working on them." I'm normally pretty patient when it comes to waiting for my dishes but waiting over 1.5 HOURS for our food was ridiculous. By the time we received our food, we completely lost our appetite and packed up half the food. Their staff need to learn table numbers better and get everyone's orders straight. They were marking off that we had received our dishes when they were giving them to the next table. Even after we had complained to them the first time we caught them doing that, they consistently did it another 2 rounds! A man who also came in for a takeout order was also upset given how long it was taking. He waited over 40 minutes for one dish! Unfortunately they are completely disorganized compared to when they were at their smaller location. Expect long waits for your food (unless you get lucky and get someone else's order) and frazzled staff. read more

We have 5 people to have lunch in the restaurant today. The food is very good and delicious. They only have 8ish tables. The restaurant is very clean and restroom is clean as well. The food comes in sufficient time and good sizes. The price for each plate is not cheap but reasonable. We order following , combination fried rice, fried red yeast pork belly, stir fried cabbage, Shepherdspurse veggie and tofu Soup, signature green onion sesame pie, and beef wraps. Ahgoo's Kitchen was originally located in El Monte and has since moved to Temple City. This restaurant has probably one of the greatest thick onion pancakes. The food here may be amazing, but the service here is mediocre at best. If you are looking for a place to wine and dine you, this is 100% not the place for you. You often need to flag down the waitress, for utensils or other basics. However, the prices here are NOT CHEAP. They have many high priced dishes that are well over the typical asking price of other Asian restaurants. However it is because of the incredible amount of time and skill that is put into each dish. With the service and and price being two large cons, I would still rate this restaurant a 4/5 star because of how incredibly delicious it is. Obviously a fan favorite is the thick onion pancake. This is likely because they do not skim on the green onions placed inside it. The pancake is fluffy and moist. They have truly perfected the recipe so that it is not overly dense of overly chewy. We also will always get the mixed cold plate. Overall it doesn't look very appetizing, but it is extremely tasty! There is also a battered fish that is very delicious as well, however I feel like some portions have to much batter on it. The pork with bean curd is also a popular dish that you can tell needs a lot of time to prepare, however I felt it was a little oily, but overall flavor was still great. The shredded potatoes and carrots are also extremely well made. Overall the restaurant is really delicious. They have improvements they need to work on, but the food keeps me coming back. Five stars for amazing Chinese food dishes that they served over there. My most favorite food items would have to be the Seaweed Fish Filet, the Green Onion Cake, and the Fried Pumpkin with Salted Egg Yolk that tasted very good! I waited only around less than 30 minutes to received the foods that I ordered. Overall, very friendly and fast service that my parents and I don't have to wait that long. This place has some decent authentic dishes. I love their scallion pan fried bread it's flavorful delicious and totally filling. It's a pretty small place so I got my order to go. 1. They don't have any English menus, you have to ask the waitress to translate everything for you. 2. I came as a single table because I needed something quick. They sat me at an awkward table that was right next to the check in table with no barrier so people kept shoving the white board into my face asking what the wait time is thinking I'm a lazy server. 3. The table used a oil stained sheet of white butcher paper that they refused to switch out for me when all other tables were cleaned. 4. $30 credit card minimum. Had an early dinner with friends on a Sunday afternoon. Although I was recovering from a cold and didn't have my usual appetite, I was surprised with how much I enjoyed the meal and even ended up finding my stomach as I ate. We ordered the sesame pancakes, beef noodle soup and a side of dumplings, which came out first. Completing our order took a little over twenty minutes. Though there weren't that many diners that day, they still had most of the their tables filled, and with limited staffing as others have written this is understandable. As I mentioned the flavors were great, especially that beef noodle soup. Though we shared all the food that was ordered, I could have easily ordered another bowl and eaten it myself, had I no manners. This ain't no fancy place but the food was quite good. As others have noted, the green onion pancake was very good. It was fluffy and light with a crispy outer. Yum! Also tried the bean curd with shredded pork. It was a tad too oily, but it had good flavor from the pork. This restaurant relocated to temple city recently which is much closer for me! LOVE LOVE their green onion thick pancake. Although the store is much bigger than its previous location, it is still VERY busy. We waited 30 min on a sat night for a party of 4. Don't except "great service" due to their short staff situation but the food is super delish. We ordered infamous green onion thick pancake (takes 20 min to make so order early), fried fish strips, bamboo shoot with shredded pork and beef stir fried with green onion which are ALL sooooo good. So glad I found this place and it's definitely a spot I'm adding to my rotation. I'd been searching for a place like Supreme Dragon which had everything and Ahgoo's Kitchen is close. Their menu is a lot smaller but they have all my family and I's favorite things. We got the big scallion pancake, beef noodles, a-choy, beef roll, seasoned cucumbers, shredded pork w/ bamboo and the fried seaweed fish. My mom was so excited when the pork w/ bamboo came out because the bamboo was fresh and it reminded her of the bamboo she used to get in Taiwan. The scallion pancake was fluffy and filled w/ scallions. It was perfect to eat with the dishes we ordered. The beef in the beef roll was super tender, the roll was light and crispy and it wasn't overloaded w/ sauce. The fried seaweed fish was fried to a perfect crisp and was dad-approved. The broth for the beef noodles had a deep, well-rounded flavor with fresh noodles cooked al dente and the beef and tendon were cooked perfectly. It's a tiny restaurant w/ a two people serving/taking orders but they were all very friendly and fulfilled our requests even though they were slammed when we arrived. Prices are on the higher side but they definitely give you good amount of food. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other dishes. read more

I have to say though, the service was really really slow and they also somehow lost our order slip.. It felt like they were operating and staffed as if they're still in their old tiny space. Yes, that was a reference to Despicable Me as Agnes excitedly clutches onto the unicorn, because that's how I felt about these pancakes. SO FLUFFY. SUCH EXCITEMENT. If you come here, you HAVE TO get the green onion pancakes. You know they do it right when you walk in and every table has a basketful of them! They are so fluffy and soft and delicious-y oniony inside, and held together by crispy layers. One order comes with 8 thick slices. The two of us made it through 4 slices.. and had plenty of leftovers. (That I'm actually re-eating right now as I write this review. And I gotta say - heated up in an convention oven still makes them just as delicious!!) We also ordered the stir fried bean curd and pork dish. This dish was big and hearty and had a nice simple flavor to it, that cemented the homecooked feel of the food. Their menu is really simple, and I wish there were more dishes to choose from. There used to be one in Hacienda but they closed ... and it's honestly nothing compared to Ahgoo! :) *** FRIENDLY NOTE*** I suggest for your to place your order for the da bing beforehand because it does take awhile to make. For to go orders, I would place it 45 mins before leaving and you can also call ahead of time to tell them to start making it before you dine in so it'll be ready when you get there. Their dumpings are also spectacular! It's handmade from scratch and filled with lots of cabbage & pork (comes with 10 pieces as well) Their shredded potato is BOMB as well. This place accurately is a 3.5 stars. 4 stars for the service and 3 stars for food. The green onion pancake was a little undercooked and mushy on the inside and not pillowy like some others described. Probably inconsistency on the kitchens behalf. The corn egg flower soup I ordered tasted on par except it was very salty, the cook went a little ham with the msg. But they were very nice to remake it for us. The stewed special with squid chicken and intestines was good but again very salty it needs to be accompanied with rice. Though I have to say for $21 it's kind of steep because the portion is small. The corn soup was delicious after they readjusted it. The lady also gave me a little discount for the soup, she felt sorry . I would genuinely give her place another try because they did fix it. Dear Yelpers: I am very compelled to provide my input because my recent experience was extremely disappointing. Background - I was introduced to this restaurant many years ago by my mom. Since my first visit I've returned to devour their scrumptious Sesame seed green onion bread (which is what they're known for) and also the Beef roll and Fried fish with seaweed. Even after moving to San Fernando Valley I still come back because their food is that delicious. I've recommended this place to many of my family and friends and it has never disappointed. This all changed with our recent visit from the past Saturday on April 28, 2018. Yes, as mentioned by other reviewers, the original owners have sold the business and disappeared. The restaurant name remains the same but the quality of food has not. From the past Saturday we had ordered 5 dishes: Stir fry a-choy with garlic, Green onion pancake, Beef noodle soup, Beef roll, and Fried fish with seaweed. Stir fry a-choy with garlic - Flavor is decent but portions were very small, especially at $9. Green onion pancake - Biggest disappointment, bread was not crunchy on the outside and the inside was not fully cooked as it had that doughy texture. The original green onion pancake had a golden brown color with a nice crunch and the inside was very fluffy. Beef noodle soup - Flavor is different as cumin was added. Noodles were also different as it seemed like it was store bought. Another complaint is that they give you very little amount of meat, only a couple of thin slices. There should be some beef in the dish if you want to call it Beef noodle soup. Beef roll - The skin wrap was extremely thick and too filling. Also, same complaint as the Beef noodle soup as there is barely any beef slices in the wraps. Fried fish with seaweed - Another disappointment as it was oily and had added more breading to the fish (so essentially less fish). At the end of the meal I felt that I overpaid for the amount and quality of food, too much carb and not a lot of substance. Especially when there are alot better places for the price. Presentation is everything, except when it comes to taiwanese dining. The less impressive the place looks, the more authentic the food is. Usually. This place serves great taiwanese food, I'm a big fan of their beef wrap and eggplant entrees. The only thing is that rice isn't included with the entrees so you'll have to pay a little extra for it, but it didn't detract from the delicious food! AUTHENTIC TAIWANESE FOOD. Excuse the caps. I'm just excited to find a place that serves up pretty darn good Taiwanese food. Hot & sour soup: right amount of spice & vinegar! Hard to find that in many places nowadays. Chow mein: the perfect Taiwanese kind of chow mein. I wanted to be greedy and eat the whole dish myself. Fish dumplings: this is a dish they're known for I think. You can taste big chunks of fish inside the dumplings. Another winner. My parents were satisfied with all the other dishes ordered. However, a little disappinted they ran out of the big sesame bread and it was only 6pm. This is a small mom and pop shop and when I say small, it's really small with about 4-5 tables. Management needs to be worked on but they're fairly new so there's time for improvement. But great tasting food and without a doubt, I will return. read more

Writing a little belated review for this place (I didn't realize it's now temporarily closed!) but I rounded up for an overall 3.5 rating. First of all, the green onion pancake IS pretty great; super cheap for the sheer amount you're getting, and super fluffy like a lot of other reviews say. They're surprisingly light and not as oily or greasy as you'd find in other places. (tip: take them home and they heat up great in a toaster oven!) My partner and I also got beef noodle soup and some morning glory for veggies. The beef noodle soup was unfortunately a little underwhelming; even though there was an abundance of meat in the soup, it was actually a little too much in the meat to noodles ratio, and it was kind of tough. The soup itself also didn't taste like anything special and was a little watery. The veggies were also okay, a little bit on the oily side but I'm wasn't totally surprised. I'd stop here again to get the green onion pancakes again and try their beef rolls - another table ordered the latter and they looked pretty good and fresh. read more

Ahgoo is a term to represent, generally speaking, an female of an older generation in your family in Mandarin. My guess that it's a name that will hearken back to the food you had growing up as a Chinese or Chinese American. Well, if nostalgia is what they're selling good food is being made here too. I came with the ladyfriend's grandparents and let them do the ordering. I was quite impressed with the food we had. The sweet and sour soup was the highlight and a must try, especially on a colder day. The workhorse of their menu, the green onion sesame cake was, as promised by the ladyfriend, good as well. We also ordered some veggies and a fish dish that did not dissapoint. The menu here is not large and in many ways that's a good thing as they know what they're making and they make it well, ( think in n out menu) The price is reasonable given the quality of the food you're having. The establishment itself is quite small and can be easy to miss. Apparently space can get limited in the restaurant so plan ahead to expect a potential wait. If there is one downfall, the food can be a bit on the oilier side for those who are extremely health conscious, especially when it comes to their veggies With so many Chinese food options in the SGV area this is a great collection to the bunch that has stood the test of time.
