I will always love Ahi and vegetable however it's been at least six years since my last review and things have changed. First of all, they have a $35 all you can eat with pretty extensive hours. We went on a Wednesday afternoon around 12:30 PM and was able to get a seat easily. We did not order the AYCE since the kid doesn't eat much but we did see boats of sushi going past us and it looked absolutely delicious. The kid ate the salmon bowl which raised their price at least nine dollars since six years ago. Inflation at its best. She said it was mostly rice however and the cuts were definitely much more thinner. It did come with miso soup as usual. I had the spicy Ahi Bento which went up about three dollars. It was just ok, kinda dry. I also ordered a two piece salmon nigiri since it was happy hour. As good as it was, the pieces are not as thick and plump as it used to be which was sad. The calamari I thought was burnt but when I tasted it, was not. It was seasoned well, but super oily and only leg pieces. would I go again? Yes. However I was disappointed that the cuts were much thinner than what they used to give. Maybe next time I will try the AYCE as it looked pretty darn good. read more

Came here again for a really belated Fathers Day dinner. There were way more workers this time around and they added a call button so service was fast and efficient even though it was much busier than our last visit. They said their liquor license expired so they no longer sell alcohol. So we bought some beer and sake from the 7/11 right across the street and they provided us cold glasses. Also they did add some items to their AYCE menu that you need to pay more for like the toro nigiri which is an extra $3 per order. My partner is here for a visit and has been on a sushi bender. For lunch today he was asking for ayce sushi. We headed to Ahi & Vegetable where we were seated right away. The servers explained how their AYCE works and we began to order. The restaurant was busy but not overly noisy. Food came out quickly, and was pretty good. I must say that since my last review in 2020, Ahi & Vegetable has proven to be just as good if not better in several ways. Inside, they have updated their menus and made them more organized with clear photos. They also have a more modernized way of ordering as an option near the entrance with three monitors available to place your order. One side has a dine in area where they have TVs and also serve also serve alcohol. The sashimi is still just as fresh as before and so refreshing with the salad and vinegarette dressing. They also have the peanut dressing which is another favorite and also their ko chu jang dressing. Their spicy ahi, usually comes in their bowl with your choice of rice and choy sum which is really yummy, but can also be added if preferred to other items on the menu. The teri chicken is good. I ask for it well done as I like a little char on it. It's soft and goes will with the choy sum which is included. Great for something not too heavy. The staff is friendly and their service is really quick. This is a great place for fresh fish or combo bentos. I lived in kalihi all my life and only now I tried this place thank Jesus I did because OMG it's so good!!! They are located in the kapalama kai shopping center right next to the washerette & machete sandwiches. They have a big dine in area to enjoy your food and they have lots of stuff they also sell items on the side for your poke like kimchee, ginger spread, pickled mango and more! - I ordered their bento # 9 which was ahi, salmon, cali roll and ahi poke. So good!!!! It comes with greens and ginger. It made me so full! It was $19, kind of pricey but worth it because the ahi was soooo soft like butter, super fresh!!! I ordered the hamachi kama. Came on a bed of lettuce. Lettuce good. Kama not good. It was overcooked. They have some teriyaki/kabayaki-ish sauce on it that typically is not needed if the fish is fresh. Felt like they were hiding something other than it being poorly cooked. The cooked food always seems to fall short there. My fault for deviating away from sashimi. Gf got the spicy salmon. She enjoyed that, but she said had lots of rice. We also had tako wasabi - that was probs one of the better ones I've had. There were nice big chunks of tako. And wasabi cleared the nose a little but not too much. I'll stay off this review by saying I love this restaurant. My wife used to go to school in town and would bring this home. The tough part was she didn't have school in the weekends. I was really happy when they opened this location. The fish is always super fresh. I have never been disappointed with the quality and freshness of the fish. My go to is the ahi and salmon sashimi over salad with the spicy dressing. Service is always quick and smooth. The last time around I had dine in. Part of our group had the ayce so they asked us to separate. They just moved the tables a little apart. It's been a while since they expanded their dining area. It's quite large. Really love this Ahi & Vegetable location! Came in and received such a warm greeting from Kenny & Jojo this Sunday morning. I usually am on-the-go but decided to dine in. The space is clean, great lighting, and has beautiful and cute artwork on the walls. Love how the localized the art to Hawai'i thru the greeting, "Aloha Kalihi!" It's always a bad thing when you can't even finish a small plate of what you love. I ordered the Bluefin Otoro sashimi. It came out as 8 pieces of nigiri. I should have known better for only $25 price tag. Definitely not Otoro. Nothing like butter when bitting into. The striations made each bite impossible to chew. No fatty goodness. The worst thing was when the waiter came to our table and asked if we liked it, we said no. We've had Otoro at least a thousand times and this was not it. Impossible to eat. No attempt was made to bring back to the kitchen. The item was not removed from bill. I also ordered the spicy poke bowl. Instead I got spicy ahi ground up. I would have pissed elsewhere at the service and quality but as far as ayce sushi in oahu at under $40 this is it. not great, not terrible. there is worse, like kats. any other state this would be horrible ayce sushi but here it is just what you have to deal with. Me, my nephew, and younger brother were so excited to finally try their all you can sushi for only $38 a person. Some menu items though you had to pay a couple bucks more, but my family just ordered what was included in the all you can eat price. We tried the salmon, scallop, hamachi, and spicy ahi. Went for the AYCE menu @ahiandvegetable for $34.95 for 90 minutes. It was a lot of food to eat and we enjoyed most of the items but the main reason coming here was for the Sushi but we were disappointed because as nice looking as the Sushi looked to the eye adter the first initial bite it was sheer disappointment as the Sushi Rice was so Compact and Dense it was like chewing Bubble Gum. I'm not saying we are Sushi Snobs but we are used to eating Sushi that has just the right amount of rice to fish ratio where you can just put the whole Nigiri into your mouth and just enjoy the moment where the Sushi Rice and Fish just compliment each other harmoniously leaving a smile on our faces with sheer delight. But after taking one bite of the Nigiri here at Ahi and Vegetable I knew it was gonna take 90 minutes just to chew and swallow this piece of Nigiri. We just couldn't eat the Sushi anymore and we just ended up just eating the Fish on top seperately and put the sushi rice on the side It was so clumpy and so compact I think a bird would break its beak trying to eat the Sushi Rice. Ok let's get back to the good things about Ahi and Vegetable. The Hamachi Kama was Excellent and we ordered another one because it was so good. Also the Shoyu Ahi Poke with Limu was really really Ono!!!! Honestly those two items really stood out for the two of us. My overall experience here was ok. I like their friends place a little more (Domo Cafe). But really wanted the Chirashi bowl on the last day of Food a go go. Sadly the cashier wasn't too sure if it was still on so he asked another worker and the worker replied No it's regular price even though the listing didn't end yet, oh well. Was hungry wanting something so panic pick was a Spicy ahi with brown rice. Fish was good and soft like fresh ahi is. If you saw a certain person's instagram video that led you to come dine in here, then you might be in the same boat as me. The video led me to believe that there was AYCE sushi including ikura, unagi and a variety of sushi; however, once you get the menu, you can see that the video wasn't truthful. Located at Kapalama center, there is ample parking that is shared among other establishments. There is a lot of construction going on on the main road so it may be a bit of a hassle to get here. The system is a little confusing. They are half take out and half dine in. To dine in, you have to go to the register to sign in. We got here around 5:00PM and waited about an hour to get seated. Once we were seated, one of the servers handed us a jug of water and plastic cups and a slip of paper to order off of. He told us that after we order, someone would be by with another paper for us to order round two. I looked through the paper and the options are very limited compared to other places. Also several items are pay only- it's not a bad price for the add on items, but given that I was under the impression those would be included, I was pretty let down. We wrote down our order and it took a while before someone finally came by to grab our paper. The food came out quickly, but they came out on paper plates... not a sushi boat like the video... no biggie, but also can you imagine how much waste this generates? That's a LOT of paper plates going into the landfill. The sushi was honestly not the best. The spicy ahi has a wasabi taste to it which was too spicy for me to handle and I could only eat a little. The fish mostly had little to no flavor and was on top a huge piece of rice. It didn't taste as fresh as I had hoped. The ahi poke was the best thing we ate here. The Tako had a weird smokey flavor to it and was soft and limp so we did not like that. I ended up ordering two pieces of ikura for $3 and I was hoping for really good ikura, but you could tell the ikura wasn't fresh since some of the balls were starting to get firm and hard. The calamari was more batter than squid. We waited around for a little bit, but we had silently decided that we wouldn't be ordering a second round. We weren't particularly enjoying the food, but also, no one came by to check on us or bring us the paper to order again like they said they would... The servers rotated with whoever was taking orders for the take out register. They didn't check on customers except to drop off food. There was even confusion when it came time to pay. I went up to the register to pay and the server told me that they would bring the tablet to the table to pay so I went back to our seat. Then the server came by and said "oh never mind, you gotta come up to the register to pay" so we got up and went to pay at the register. They didn't show us what we ordered and punched everything in then turned the screen around for us to pay. $90 for subpar sushi.... Good thing I asked for the receipt because right before I wrote this review, I looked at it and noticed we were charged for soda that we NEVER ORDERED. WOW. I didn't come here with high hopes, but this was not it. Service was lacking and they clearly need to work out their kinks and figure out if customers are paying at the register or at their table. The food was expensive for what we got. For $40, I expected much better quality fish and service. Heck, I was even lead to believe the AYCE would be $38, but thats the cash price! There is similar restaurants out there with better service and sushi tbh. Also, check your order before you pay!! We ended up paying for some other tables soda because the server threw it onto OUR tab (I should have checked before we left). Needless to say, we will not be coming back. read more

Definitely the best part of this meal was the simple, spare thick-cut brilliant purple-edged hamachi. The ahi katsu plate was okay. I appreciated having a non-meat katsu option, and the breading was delicious, but I think you just have to overcook the tuna too much with this preparation, and the sauce was some kind of Hoisin-BBQ hybrid that was very sweet. I've been ordering sushi platters here for a few years now and I love it. They just opened up a all you can eat sushi on Monday's and Tuesdays from 4pm-8pm! I have nothing but good things to say about my first time experience with the all you can eat sushi. The cuts of fish on the sushi nigiri is nice and thick. A lot more then what I'm used to in most sushi bars. And of course the food fish tastes fresh. I highly recommend going early so you don't have to wait in line. I have to admit that we waited a while due to a large party but that's not the restaurants fault. But the service was great. Tried the AYCE with six other members of family and found my experience disappointing. The seafood did not not appear to be fresh and seemed previously frozen judging by appearance and texture. The Ahi, Hamachi and Salmon Nigiri was probably the best on the menu but even these were only just acceptable. The Unagi was tiny and tasteless while the Spicy Ahi was bland and just looked old. The rice on all the dishes were very large in proportion to the fish or seafood. The amount of and rice in the Spicy Ahi Bombs, Hand Rolls and Sushi Rolls were enormous so be aware of that when ordering these dishes. This was not explained to me but some of the items on the AYCE menu incur extra charges such as the Ikura , Hamachi Kama and a buch of others so look at the menu carefully when ordering as these types of dishes as they are randomly sprinkle among the menu and are not located in one place like they should be to avoid confusion. The Ikura and Hamachi Kama were good but you have to pay extra for them. Fried dishes were also available on the AYCE menu such as the Calamari, Shrimp Tempura, Karaage Chicken. These were surprisingly pretty good but we came for the freash fish and seafood not these fried side dishes. Lastly, there is a 20% surcharge for parties of 6 or more which is not told to you until it is time to pay the bill. Not sure why this charge exists because we did not recieve any special services than anyone else, you pour your own water and I think we were served our orders about four time in total. This is not a tip , this is a mandatory charge which you are also taxed on. OK, so the bottom line is if you want mediocre Sushi at best and eat a lot but dont care about the quality and only about quantity, then this place is for you. If you want better quality sushi for about the same price, there are several other Sushi places or even Markets to go to. I have tried their Poke Bowls and these were excellent and the fish was fresh and incredible but unfortunately this was not the same experience for the AYCE. read more
