Love the ambience the inside was dark. It would be a great place for a quiet subdued conversation. Yeah outside was very European like with the tables sitting on the sidewalk. The service we had was outstanding, and he was very responsive to all of our requests I was surprised it only got three out of five stars so I had some reservations when it came to food. The calamari was some of the best I've had incredibly light and not too overdone. They brought us real bread and butter, which is great because you don't find that very often these days the escargot was wonderful and it did not have too much pesto for me but for others in my party, they thought it was overdone. The quiche was great Duck was nice could've been served a little bit on the crispy side, but I can't complain because duck is in something you have every day The fettuccine was rich and creamy, excellent. read more

My girlfriend and I have been wanting to come here since it opened last year but never did. However, today was the day we finally decided to eat dinner here. The ambiance within the restaurant felt relaxing. Definitely set the mood for a comfortable dining experience. Our server asked where we wanted to sit which we appreciated. We were then guided to our table. We were then greeted by Alana who is very kind and attentive. She checked in on us several times during our experience and helped us with our menu options. This service is an excellent example of top tier quality. I decided to order the Filet Mignon, Pomme Frites, and Aixois 75. The Filet Mignon has good flavor, juicy, and tender. The pairing of the mashed potatoes and vegetable du jour were excellent and complimented this dish nicely. The Pommes Frites were good. It had a unique flavor which I wasn't able to fully grasp, but it was good nonetheless. The Aixois 75 was sweet and had great flavor. Overall, I am pleased with my experience. The service was spectacular and the food made the experience more enjoyable. I highly recommend everyone to come here to try out their food items. read more

Easily one of my favorite spots to visit if I am wanting French food in Kansas City: Aixois! There are two Aixois locations in the Kansas City metro and BOTH offer delicious plates. I love to order the homemade chicken, mushrooms, and egg fettuccine pasta as well as the grilled hangar steak served with peppercorn sauce, a salad, and pomme frites. The calamari appetizer is an absolute HIT! Aixois also has a wonderful patio to enjoy your meal on. They also have a stellar happy hour menu! Beets (subbed per the usual sushi grade tuna), a small salmon fillet, quinoa serving, arugula, avocado, and options to add another meat. I added 5 shrimp. Side included is a vinaigrette dressing. Very different take on a poke bowl for sure, pretty tasty in the end. I may "need" to come here for their burger or a dinner option to make a final thumbs up or down. read more

Classy French restaurant with mediocre food in Leawood, near the Aloft hotel. Went with colleagues today - they started us off with warm bread and a slab of cold hard butter, and we ordered drinks. My old-fashioned (with Woodford Reserve) was good, and we chatted about work, family, and bucket lists while perusing the menu. I ordered the chèvre chaud - goat cheese on toast and spinach salad - and the duck confit with broccolini and zucchini. The salad was good and the cheese warm and creamy, but the toast underneath was burnt. My duck was also overdone (easy to do if you're not paying attention) so I didn't enjoy it much. Ambience was excellent and service was very good. Wish the food wasn't so disappointing. Not planning to return. read more

This was highly disappointing. I was craving a croque monsieur, and had high hopes for it. We were one of perhaps six tables in the spacious restaurant, but the service was incredibly slow. Two of us started with the French onion soup, which took probably 20 minutes to come out, and I found highly disappointing. It was also far too hot to eat for about ten minutes- it made me wonder if they had forgotten it under some heating element. I feel that they could have cut down on the wait time by simply serving it at a reasonable temperature. For our main course, we had a salmon salad, a burger, and the croque Monsieur. [I added an egg, making it a croque madame]. One of my companions enjoyed her salad, while the other described his burger as "fine, nothing special". Again, the food took a long time to come out. Our server was also not particularly attentive during these wait times, needing to be flagged down for more water. Again, NOT a busy time at the restaurant. As for my sandwich.... I expected it to be, like I have had other places, a rich, creamy, and luscious meal. It was not. It tasted like it was very minimal effort, and overcooked at that. Asking for extra béchamel took a long time. I can forgive bad service if the food is good, but unfortunately this doesn't hold up. Altogether, this was sub par and I won't be back. read more

I love this addition to Leawood/Park Place! I've been to the original location, but it's not that close to home. This is a great location (other than the parking situation...street parking or garage, and I just don't feel safe in the garages). They have one of the best happy hours in town and the food is amazing! The wine list is very good and reasonably priced. I had the Croque Madame and it was fantastic (large portion, especially for happy hour). It's a great place to meet up with friends and the dining area is very nice, quiet and romantic (great for date night). The service has been wonderful every time I've visited! Can't wait to go back! read more

This visit was a unmitigated disaster! The only good Items were the service, the Iced Tea and the Charcuterie Board. The French Onion soup tasted like it had been involved in a head-on collision with a bottle of a poor vintage Port Wine and the wine won. You could not taste anything but the wine. The quiche Loraine was so over cooked and dry the it had the consistency of a tire. The fork actually bounced off of it without leaving a mark. To top it off, after leaving the meal uneaten (yes, not a bite was consumed) I had to pay for the meal (no offer to comp it or even make an attempt to correct the problem). Went to dinner at the brand new Aixois at Park Place in Overland Park. We had a great dinner. We got there early. My dad had made a reservation but we didn't need one at that time. The menu looked good but I found the addition of pizza and pasta to be a bit strange. I get it's probably to appeal to business customers or out of town visitors who might have a less adventurous palate, but it did take me out of the French vibe a bit. That said, I couldn't really decide on what I wanted so I got a burger. It was really good. No complaints whatsoever. My dad got the salmon burger and my mom got the terrine maison (she LOVES pâté and terrines). We all were extremely happy with our food. We ended the meal with my dad getting an apple crisp (my mom isn't crazy for apple desserts) but she and I split an île flottant, which we once shared in Paris. It's such a light and summery dessert. We both loved it. The service was terrific and the decor felt like a French brasserie, though I know they didn't change much from the previous tenant. A great addition to the area! read more

Went to dinner last night as a party of five. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. We found the service to be subpar - they failed to bring out the appetizer, we had to ask repeatedly for a bread plate for one person, and the server seemed to be trying to rush us out the door, putting tickets on the table before everyone had finished eating. In addition, the food was very uneven - the halibut itself was good but the frites were overdone and the slaw soggy and overdressed. The duck was significantly overcooked and potatoes unpleasant. The mussels were good at least. The original Aixois is consistently excellent, so I recommend waiting on the new location to shake off the "new restaurant" instability and try again in a six months. read more

I had high hopes for the bistro. First impressions weren't great as the host seems to hate their job speaking in a dead monotone voice with single word sentences. Ambiance is quite dull with the only noise you can hear are the clanging of utensils in the kitchen. And the food is absolutely overpriced for what you're getting. Bread tastes like something you get from Walmart and the French Onion soup was horrendous being so incredibly hot I had to wait for 25 mins before I could eat it again high was a waste of time as it was the worst I've ever tasted. read more

They've expanded their menu from the original location in Brookside. I think the earlier bad reviews were during their "growing pains". Aixois is our new favorite restaurant. My wife and I have eaten at the Crestwood location multiple times over the past ten or so years and have always enjoyed it. The Park Place location is larger but the ambiance was very nice. We ordered off the HH menu. We had a spinach salad to start. It was a nice and we both enjoyed it. Then we ordered a croque monsieur and French onion soup which were also discounted on the HH menu. The food was good but the service was slow and inattentive; it took 10 or so minutes for our drinks to arrive. The place was far from full, but our waitress was working inside tables where we were seated as well as the curbside tables. While the service was desultory at best, we weren't in a hurry. When the check came I saw that although we ordered off the HH menu, we were charged full price. I pointed that out and the waitress reran the check with the correct pricing. I had read other reviews that noted issues with the charges at this location, suggesting that they either they aren't paying attention or they're intentionally overcharging, so I was skeptical when she said it was an error. Overall, we enjoyed it and will likely go back and give it another chance. If we have issues like this again we will can this location in favor of the original, or go to the French Market. Give it a try and see what you think. read more

We sat at our table for 10 minutes before anyone even greeted us or got water. I finally flagged someone down and we got service from the actual person who was suppose to be our server. When we did get service it still took longer than it should. I got the mussels in blue cheese it was OK the fries were soggy and bread came after the entree. A manager showed up and asked how things were and I said the service was slow and he said that most people think it's too fast! Seriously? When I went the bathroom in my stall was a bucket of disgusting cleaning supplies, not in a cabinet. This isn't the first time food/service has been below average, which is too bad. It's such a great location and the Crestwood location has always been so good. No excuses, I put myself through school in the restaurant business which is probably why I was so disappointed. I didn't see any pride in the staff. I really hope for success with this location so please take this as someone who really wants to see this happen. read more

We love the brookside location and have eaten there many times so we're excited when they opened their leawood location closer to home. We were very disappointed with the food here. Mussels in cream sauce was one note and bland. The salmon in the burger was thinner than a lettuce and I think they forgot to put the aioli! The poke bowl takes the crown for the worst dish among the lot as the same thin slice of salmon was presented with some Arugula on the side, chunks of ginger in different shapes and sizes to let you know that this is Asian inspired and a vinaigrette that looked like red wine. read more

This review is a jeer and a cheer. We made reservations for a birthday dinner two weeks ago. We were seated for 23 minutes without anyone acknowledging us, so we left, and chatted with the manager on the way out. He followed up with a call, apologizing for the situation, and offered to have us come back for a complimentary meal, which we did. This time around, we had excellent service from the waitstaff, who was knowledgeable, had great recommendations and was very attentive. The food and drinks were excellent. At the end, the manager thanked us for coming back and kept his word on the bill. I just wanted to call out how well the restaurant handled the situation, enough to warrant me writing this review. I want this new location to be successful, but our experience was super disappointing. The lighting was almost like being in fluorescent lighting for dinner and there was absolutely no music in the dining area. Which is not the vibe for a French restaurant. It was a week night, but I would have condensed the diners into the same area so it didn't seem so empty and spread out. It's felt like the servers were confused and phoning it in- complacent which isn't good for a new job and location. The food was mid. The pizza was really good, but it's a French restaurant. The food could have been prepared and served with a little more care. The original location is fantastic. They need to maybe put a little more effort into creating a similar culture and feel into the new one especially since it's new. I'm actually planning on coming back next weekend to give it another chance, but I really hope it's better. read more
